S7 Ep 191S7 EP191: Bianca Telford: Living with Epilepsy / “High Risk” Label / Hospital Birth / Freebirth at Home

This week on the show I’m joined by Bianca, a Brisbane mum of two whose journey into motherhood is a powerful reflection of intuition, advocacy, and deep self-trust.After experiencing a missed miscarriage, Bianca consciously prepared her body and mind before conceiving her first daughter, Bliss. Throughout her pregnancy, she immersed herself in birth education and began to question the mainstream narrative around birth, feeling strongly drawn toward a physiological home birth. However, after being classified as “high risk” due to her epilepsy, Bianca found her options limited and ultimately entered the hospital system, where her plans began to unravel.Bianca’s second pregnancy became a turning point… because this time she chose to follow the inner knowing she had felt all along. What unfolds is a deeply personal and transformative birth at home, where she sinks into the inner work, meets her fears head-on, and anchors into a level of trust she had always carried within. In This Episode We CoverMissed miscarriage and conscious conceptionPreconception detox and preparing the body for pregnancyNavigating pregnancy with epilepsy and being labelled “high risk”Discovering physiological birth and the desire for home birthFeeling limited by the system and shifting birth plansHospital birth experience and cascade of interventionsThe emotional impact of feeling overridden during birthReflecting on giving away power vs reclaiming itChoosing a sovereign/home birth for her second pregnancyInner work, fear release, and fully trusting her body during birthResources + MentionsInstagram@theblissfulwatersBooksGentle Birth, Gentle Mothering by Dr Sarah BuckleyReclaiming Childbirth as a Rite of Passage by Dr Rachel ReedBirth Course:Free Birth SocietyBirth Affirmations:Yolande Norris-ClarkShare The EpisodeIf this episode resonated with you, please share it with a friend or tag us on Instagram so more women can discover these stories and feel supported in their own journey.Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. This week on the show I’m joined by Kaitlyn, a mother of three from Toowoomba whose journey into motherhood began in the most unexpected way… falling pregnant to a man she’d only known for six weeks after a failed morning after pill. What followed was a whirlwind into love, partnership, and parenthood… but also a deeply medicalised first birth that shaped everything that came after.Kaitlyn shares three completely different birth experiences… from a private hospital birth with a cascade of interventions, to a deeply empowering homebirth, and finally, a freebirth guided by her intuition, her faith in God, and a deep trust in her body. Her second birth brings an incredibly rare and powerful moment… birthing her baby face presentation in the water. And with her third, Kaitlyn steps even further into surrender, navigating a surprise pregnancy and a profound inner knowing she was guided by God... and that this was her baby girl.Kaitlyn’s story is a powerful reflection of how birth can become a turning point… an unraveling of what we’ve been taught, and a return to trust, intuition, and something greater guiding the way.In This Episode We Cover• Falling pregnant after six weeks + navigating a relationship and motherhood at the same time• A highly medicalised first birth + the cascade of interventions• Epidural, episiotomy + vacuum-assisted delivery• Postpartum trauma + an undiagnosed hematoma + difficult recovery• Miscarriage + the emotional impact of a D&C• Letting go of control + unexpectedly falling pregnant again• Choosing a home birth + finding aligned midwifery care• A rare face presentation water birth + trusting the body through the unexpected• The shift from fear to trust + healing through birth• A surprise third pregnancy + a moment she believes God revealed she was carrying a little girlShare The EpisodeIf this episode resonated with you, please share it with a friend or tag us on Instagram so more women can discover these stories and feel supported in their own journey.Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. S7 Ep 188S7 EP188: Laura Gaschk: Private OB + Hospital Shower Birth / Fibroid + Risked Out of Birth Cottage / Postpartum Mental Health / Private Midwifery Care / Rural Birth Options / Homebirth

This week on the show I’m joined by Laura as she shares her journey into motherhood. Laura discovering she was pregnant while travelling around Australia on a honeymoon road trip, navigating early scans across multiple states during COVID, before returning home to prepare for birth. During her first pregnancy Laura sought a physiological birth and continuity of care, but after a fibroid was discovered overlapping the placenta she was risked out of the midwife-led birth cottage she had planned and transferred into hospital care. After navigating conflicting medical opinions and fragmented care, Laura ultimately found support with a private obstetrician and went on to birth her daughter in a powerful spontaneous labour in the hospital shower. Laura shares how the intensity of her postpartum experience, including significant mental health challenges, shaped the way she approached her next pregnancy and birth. When she fell pregnant again, Laura felt strongly that she wanted something more supported, more personal, and more aligned with the kind of care she had longed for the first time around. In this episode Laura shares how she discovered private midwifery care halfway through her pregnancy, hired a “home away from home” birth space, and went on to experience a beautiful water birth surrounded by trusted support… catching her baby boy at home in the water. This conversation explores continuity of care, trusting your instincts, navigating rural birth options, postpartum mental health, and the powerful difference the right support can make in both birth and motherhood. In this episode we discuss:• Discovering pregnancy while travelling around Australia • Navigating scans across multiple states during COVID • Fibroids and being risked out of a midwife-led birth cottage • Navigating conflicting medical advice • Spontaneous labour and hospital shower birth • The realities of postpartum mental health • Pregnancy after miscarriage • Discovering private midwifery care • Hiring a “home away from home” birth space • A beautiful water birth experience • The power of continuity of careResources + Mentions:Instagram:@Laura_gaschk @marbehvale @marbehvale_homestead Birth Photographer:@amyphilpphotographyMidwife:@nurtureyourbirthPelvic Floor Physio:@somatic_womankindPANDA – Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia https://www.panda.org.auBeyond Blue https://www.beyondblue.org.auCentre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) https://www.cope.org.auHomebirth Australia https://homebirthaustralia.orgAustralian College of Midwives – Find a Midwife https://www.midwives.org.auShare the episode...If this episode resonated with you, please share it with someone who might need to hear it. S7 Ep 186S7 EP186: Vanessa Harding: Two Home births / 26-Hour Posterior Labour at 41+4 / House Renovation + Wild Pregnancy

Vanessa joins me from Coffs Harbour to share the story of birthing both of her daughters at home… her first during lockdown in a tiny studio apartment after a 26-hour posterior labour at 41+4 weeks, and her second in the quiet stillness of dawn - a sunrise water birth that unfolded almost exactly as she had envisioned. After reflecting deeply on her first birth experience, Vanessa immersed herself in emotional womb healing, mantra, and the teachings of freebirth philosophy. Her second labour became an exploration of mindset, responsibility, and self-trust… labouring alone through much of the night and anchoring into a simple phrase that transformed her experience. In this episode we discuss:Posterior labour and going 41+4Labouring at home without scans or medical testingThe role of mindset in physiological birthEmotional womb work and releasing stored tensionLabouring solo and conscious birth preparationHaving an older child witness birthPlacenta encapsulation and postpartum recoveryTaking responsibility for your birth choicesThe power of “knowing”This is a conversation about transformation… about shifting from endurance to intention, and from hoping for a positive birth to consciously choosing one.Resources & Mentions:Personal Instagram:@coramba_cottageBooks:📖 Portal by Yolande Norris-ClarkInstagram: @bauhauswifeBirth Sling:@the.birth.slingPregnancy Yoga (Coffs Harbour):@wildernessyoga.coffsWomb & Pelvic Healing Work with Chaitanya:@wombtemple.healing Sydney Midwife (First Birth):@janineatibirthIf this episode resonated with you, please leave a review on your podcast platform to help us reach more women around the world. To stay connected between episodes, follow along on Instagram @positivebirthaustralia.Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. S6 Ep 185S6 EP185: Kacee Driver: Infertility + Severe Endo + IVF Recommendation / Healing Through TCM + Nutrition / Hospital Birth with Student Midwife / Homebirth

Today I’m joined by Kacee, a mother of two whose story is a powerful testament to the healing that unfolds when we take our health into our own hands. After many years of being dismissed by doctors and receiving a severe endometriosis diagnosis, Kacee was told her only path to motherhood would be through IVF. But instead of accepting that as her story, she and her husband committed to rebuilding their health from the ground up - through the support of traditional Chinese medicine, nourishing food, bodywork, mindset practices, and conscious living. Along the way they experienced loss, but also the deep transformation that comes with reclaiming responsibility for your body and your journey. Her first pregnancy became a turning point, supported by a student midwife and an obstetrician who honoured her choices. When it came time to welcome her daughter, she carried that trust even further - choosing to birth at home, within a safe and familiar circle.Kacee’s story is a beautiful reflection of what becomes possible when we refuse to give up, when we find support that aligns with our values, and what happens when we lean into the truth that our bodies are not broken.Show Notes:Instagram: @kaycee_driverFertility Support: Heather BruceMeditations: Circle + Bloom MeditationsDiet: Weston A. S6 Ep 184S6 EP184: Laura Bergen-Roberts: GD Diagnosis + Policy Pressure / 42+3 Hospital Birth with PPH / Healing Homebirth

This week I’m joined by Laura, a mother of two whose journey into motherhood began with loss, resilience, and ultimately, transformation. After an early miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy that required surgery, falling pregnant with her daughter felt deeply healing. Yet her first birth inside the system carried its own challenges - a gestational diabetes label, weeks of policy pressure, and the weight of self-advocacy that left her bracing for battle rather than softening into trust. Though she went on to birth she had planned at 42 weeks, a postpartum haemorrhage cast a long shadow over what might have been a fully empowering experience. For her second birth, she chose to be at home and entered labour with a profound sense of trust. In the early hours of New Year’s Eve, she brought her baby into the world swiftly and instinctively, receiving him with her own hands - a deeply healing contrast to her first experience.Laura’s story reflects the freedom that comes when we step beyond “good girl” conditioning and into the full magic and capability that birth holds.Show Notes: Instagram: @wisdoms.from.the.wombMidwife: @candace.beautifully.natural Birth Photography/Film: @mamacarabirth Newborn Photographer: @maddydartphotographyMentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. S6 Ep 183S6 EP183: Mia Briski: Traumatic Caesarean in UK / Healing VBAC at Home / Posterior Labour Over 2 Days / High Blood Pressure / Fast Third Birth at 11:11

This week I’m joined by Mia, a mother of three whose birth journey spans from a traumatic caesarean in the UK to two transformative homebirths in Australia. Her first birth began as a casually planned homebirth, but a spike in blood pressure at 38 weeks led to a hospital admission. With little understanding of the interventions offered, Mia found herself on the induction conveyor belt - an experience that left her deeply shaken, and unable to call it the day she “gave birth.”Determined to rewrite her story, Mia entered her second pregnancy committed to a VBAC at home (HBAC). She poured herself into preparation - mobilising her scar, tending to her mindset, building a strong support team, and learning to trust herself as the decision-maker in her birth space. What followed was a slow, two-day labour with a posterior baby that reshaped her beliefs about birth, her body, and her own strength. Her third birth - and longest pregnancy - came on quickly and intensified fast. Together, Mia’s three contrasting births form a powerful testament to healing, self-advocacy, and the transformation that comes from doing the inner work.Show Notes: Instagram: @miabriskiMidwives: @midwifejohunter @central.coast.homebirthBooks: The Business of Being BornExplore Mia's Birth Coaching Offerings HERE.Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. S6 Ep 182S6 EP182: Chloe Poturalski: Infinite Creators / Sovereign Pregnancy and Unassisted Birth in Mexico / 5 Years of Preparation / Mindset Preparation / Trust, Mindset & Birth at 42 Weeks

This week on the show I’m joined by Chloe, a first-time mama whose birth story is a powerful testament to preparation, trust, and the mind-body connection.Long before conception, Chloe immersed herself in years of deep research and learning - equipping herself with the knowledge and confidence to choose an unassisted birth at her grandmother’s home in Mexico, guided by a vision she’d received during a plant medicine ceremony.Throughout her pregnancy, she committed to mindset work and mental rehearsal, allowing her to enter birth already familiar with what her body would experience. However, when she reached 42 weeks, the waiting began to wear on her - caught between the calm she had cultivated and the pressure to act. Yet even in the messiness of that final stretch, she found her way back into alignment.Chloe’s story is a powerful reflection of what becomes possible when birth is reclaimed as a conscious rite of passage - prepared for with intention and grounded in trust.Show Notes:Instagram: @infinite.creatorsChloe's Podcast: Infinte CreatorsBooks: Portal by Yolanda Norris-ClarkChloe’s Sovereign Pregnancy & Birth eBook HERE.Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. S6 Ep 181S6 EP181: Phoebe Snow Leo: Surprise Breech Freebirth / Prodromal Labour at 42 Weeks / Emotional Surrender / Breathing Delay

This week on the show, I welcome back Phoebe as she takes us inside the powerful story of her third birth. After a hospital birth that left her emotionally shaken, and a second birth that brought deep, village-supported healing, Phoebe’s journey with her third pregnancy asked something different of her: a full-bodied surrendeDespite preparing consciously on every level, Phoebe found herself caught in the swirl of expectation and a subconscious need to control how and when her baby would arrive. But birth, as it always does, had other plansWhat unfolded was a slow, sacred unravelling - a lesson in letting go. From prodromal labour that dragged on for days, to mounting external pressure, and a final quiet moment of surrender in the bath, this story beautifully captures the truth that often, the only way through is to release the reins and trust the unfolding. Her son’s surprise breech freebirth at home became a moment of deep remembrance - that birth cannot be managed, only met.Show Notes: Instagram: @djphoebesnowflowListen to Phoebe's previous birth stories HERE.S3 EP92: Phoebe Snow Leo - Hospital Birth / Interventions / Homebirth✨ If this episode moved you, share it with a friend, subscribe, or leave a review - it means the world.Disclaimer: The views shared in this podcast are personal stories and not medical advice. S6 Ep 180S6 EP180: Julie Hunter: Two Hospital Births / Posterior Labour at 42 Weeks / Epidural + Movement / Meconium + Tight Cord / Avoiding NICU / Low Platelets (GT)

In today’s episode, I’m joined by Julie as she walks us through her two hospital births. Her first pregnancy unfolded during one of the most uncertain times. Between navigating mandates that didn’t align, early pregnancy bleeding, and fear planted during her 12-week scan, Julie found herself on shaky ground. After declining multiple inductions, she went into spontaneous labour just shy of 42 weeks - only to discover her baby was posterior, bringing on relentless, intense contractions without rest. Though sheer exhaustion eventually led to an epidural, Julie avoided further intervention and used movement and intuition to her advantage - reminding us that even when medical help is called in, there’s still space to honour your body and your birth.By the time her second baby was on the way, Julie was on a mission to do things differently. She immersed herself in powerful birth stories, refined her preparation, and reconnected with her body on a deeper level. During the pushing phase, Julie experienced an intuitive sense that something wasn’t quite right - her baby felt stuck, and progress wasn’t unfolding as expected. What followed required deep trust, inner strength, and powerful advocacy. Her daughter was born with a tight triple cord wrap and, although stable, needed a moment to land. When hospital staff prepared for separation, Julie’s midwife mother stepped in - picked up the baby herself, placed her directly on Julie’s chest, and held that boundary with the team. Skin-to-skin was protected, NICU admission was avoided, and Olivia began feeding shortly after. This is a story of maternal instinct, the power of support, and what becomes possible when a woman is both trusted and surrounded by people who know her strength.Show Notes:Instagram: @julieleahunterBooks:Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth Courses:Calm Birth CoursePodcasts:The Great Birth RebellionOther Mentions:Dr. Lily Nichols - Prenatal/Postpartum Dietitian Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. Today’s episode follows the unfolding of Isabel’s journey - a woman who has walked through the fire of transformation with each birth she’s experienced. Her first child was born within the structured walls of a hospital, a beginning shaped by uncertainty and the quiet realisation that something vital was missing. Her second arrived in the stillness of the forest - a freebirth that called her to trust her body in a way she never had before. And her third, a surprise breech born into water, became the deepest surrender of all - a birth that cracked her open and rewrote everything she thought she knew. This is a story of becoming. S6 Ep 177S6 EP177: Ellêna Hall: Homebirth + Freebirth: Navigating Birth Trauma and Deep Healing

In today’s episode, I’m joined by Ellêna, who shares her two births at home - each unique, each powerful in its own way. From once believing that birthing outside the hospital was unthinkable, to birthing both her babies at home, Ellêna's journey is full of moments that highlight how much birth can teach us - not just about our bodies, but about what it means to back ourselves completely. She reflects on the strength it took to advocate for herself during her first labour - an experience that taught her to trust her voice and stand firmly in what she knew she needed. That inner knowing became her anchor as she navigated a tailbone injury during her second pregnancy, and a labour that defied expectations. With surges that remained spaced apart, she was left questioning what was really unfolding, until her baby arrived in the most peaceful way. Through it all, Ellêna story is a beautiful reminder that birth isn’t about control - it’s about trust.Show Notes:Instagram: @ellenaaaResources: She Births Mentioned in this episode:Esfera Designs Wellness (Birth) BallCreate a calm, supportive space during pregnancy and postpartum with Esfera Designs. S6 Ep 173S6 Ep173 | Kassie Callaghan: Induction at 42+ Weeks, 4.5kg Hospital Water Birth, Empowering Home Birth & How Birth Interventions Shape Postpartum

Today, we’re joined by Kassie - mother of three, small business owner, and the creative force behind Milk and Poppy, a mum-and-baby brand that grew from her own motherhood journey. Kassie’s birth experiences have ranged from a hospital induction to an unassisted home birth, each one shaping her deep trust in the body’s innate wisdom. Her first birth, an induction at 42+ weeks, was a positive experience at the time, but left her feeling unheard and overwhelmed. Her second, a 4.5 kg baby born in the water, was an empowering, intervention-free birth, yet the aftermath of hospital-based care once again left her feeling disrupted and vulnerable. By her third pregnancy, she knew she wanted something different, leading her to plan a home birth, where she experienced birth on her own terms - no interventions, no tearing, just trust in her body and baby.In this episode, Kassie shares the lessons she’s learnt across her three births, and we explore how interventions can shape not just your birth experience, but also your postpartum recovery and transition into motherhood.Show Notes: Instagram: @milk_and_poppyMidwives: @homebirth_with_helen@thebondimidwife@the_mindful_midwife_auPhotographer: @hausofpeakephotographyExclusive Discount: Kassie is offering 15% off everything at Milk and Poppy with the code POSITIVEBIRTH. S6 Ep 172S6 EP172: Olivia Ruby: Caesarean + HBAC, Transfer, Hematoma + Freebirth, Face Presentation, 4kg+ Babies, Prolapse

Today, I’m joined by Olivia as she takes us through her three vastly different birth experiences. Her first birth unfolded into a cascade of interventions, ultimately ending in a cesarean - an experience that opened her eyes to the realities of the mainstream birth system. Determined to do things differently, she planned a homebirth for her second.Olivia soon came to realise that hiring a private midwife and having a homebirth doesn’t automatically guarantee a fully supported, hands-off, undisturbed birth. Sometimes, even with the best intentions, a midwife’s past experiences or concerns can shape the space. In Olivia’s case, a call for an ambulance was made out of fear, disrupting what she had hoped would be an undisturbed birth. She describes this as an experience even more challenging than her cesarean. For her third birth, Olivia reclaimed full autonomy, stepping into her power to freebirth her baby at home on her own terms. This is a journey of awakening, resilience, and reclaiming birth - one that challenges perceptions and sparks deep reflection.Show Notes:Instagram: @growing.our.homesteadFind The Right Midwife - download your question guide HERE. While she chose to give birth in a hospital, her priority was to approach labour as naturally as possible. From the very start of her pregnancy, Maddi leaned into her intuition, balancing medical knowledge with trust in her body’s wisdom. She navigated hospital protocols with confidence, making informed choices and declining interventions that didn’t align with her birth preferences. This conscious decision-making empowered her to stay in control of her journey, ultimately achieving the birth she had envisioned - feeling supported, respected, and with minimal intervention.Maddie’s journey is a beautiful testament to the power of informed choice and self-belief. S5 EP165: Jinti Fell: Hospital Birth + Three Intuitive Pregnancies & Freebirths

On today's show I sit with Jinti as she reflects on the transformative journey of her four births and the invaluable lessons she gathered along the way. Just two weeks into a worldwide adventure, she unexpectedly discovered she was pregnant. Overwhelmed by the uncertainty of what to do next, her mother’s encouraging words grounded her, giving her the confidence to continue traveling until it was time to return home and birth her baby. While her first birth in the hospital was natural, it revealed unnecessary interruptions that she instinctively felt weren’t needed. This experience sparked a deeper trust in herself, guiding her toward a different path for her subsequent births. For her son’s arrival, Jinti chose the quiet sanctuary of home, surrounded by nature, with only her partner by her side. This empowered and undisturbed birth deepened her belief in herself and strengthened her connection to the sacred process of pregnancy and childbirth, affirming that that all she truly needed was to trust her instincts and the innate wisdom of her body.. Her future births reflected this trust, each inviting her to surrender more fully to the mystery of life’s unfolding. Today, Jinti reflects on the profound insights gained from each birth and how they’ve shaped her journey. From maiden to mother, through the loss of her father, she has embraced the wisdom of her experiences, stepping into her authentic self. Her story is a testament to the beauty of surrender, the strength in vulnerability, and the transformative path of motherhood. On today’s episode, we dive into Shontelle’s journey through her three hospital births. Her first experience followed the common medical path - an induction, and a postpartum haemorrhage that ended in a trip to the theatre. Despite this, Shontelle holds this birth with deep reverence as the beginning of her motherhood journey. For her second birth, everything shifted. Inspired by Ina May’s iconic book, Shontelle discovered the power of informed, instinctive birthing. This newfound mindset became invaluable when her baby boy made a swift and surprising entrance at just 37+ weeks. By her third pregnancy, Shontelle was deeply equipped with knowledge, tools, and confidence. She shares how she worked within the system to create a birth experience that felt truly transformative. S5 Ep 169S5 EP169: Georgia Haig: Positive Hospital Birth/HG + Homebirth/HG

Today, I sit down with Georgia, who shares her two deeply personal and positive birth stories - each unique, yet equally transformative. Like so many women, Georgia carried fear around birth. But a seed planted by her grandmother, shifted her perspective and opened her to the possibility that not all birth has to be traumatic. Determined to rewrite the narrative, Georgia turned to a Calm Birth course for guidance and education. This became her anchor, providing her and her husband with the confidence and tools they needed to navigate the hospital system with clarity and intention. For her second pregnancy, the restrictions of the Covid era led Georgia to seek an entirely different path - one rooted in the safety and comfort of her own home. With the support of a midwife who truly saw and honoured her, Georgia experienced the beauty of individualised care. When labour began, it mirrored her first, but this time she didn’t need to leave her sacred space. Surrounded by love and grounded in her power, Georgia birthed her baby at home, with her family by her side. In today’s episode, Georgia reflects on these two positive yet contrasting, journeys. She opens up about her battle with HG (hyperemesis gravidarum) in both pregnancies, the lessons she learnt, and how preparation, self-belief, and standing firm in your choices can create an empowering birth, no matter the setting. S5 EP168: Nathalie Levick: Hospital Birth/GDH/Postpartum Preeclampsia + Healing Homebirth

Today’s episode features the powerful and contrasting birth stories of Nathalie. After receiving a gestational diabetes (GDM) diagnosis, she was placed in the high-risk category, resulting in a cascade of interventions and care that felt disconnected from her unique needs and true health picture. That experience lit a spark within Nathalie, igniting a desire to rewrite her birth story the next time around. Guided by an inner knowing, she approached her next birth with intention and trust. Hiring a doula became a pivotal moment, introducing her to the possibility of homebirth and connecting her with a midwife who provided care tailored to her individual circumstances. This birth unfolded so quickly that her midwife and doula barely arrived in time, a beautiful reminder that Nathalie had everything she needed within herself all along.Today, Nathalie also unpacks a moment of profound emotional release after her son was born. The weight of her journey—the struggles, the growth, and the transformation—came rushing to the surface. Overwhelmed by the enormity of it all, she froze, unable to immediately reach for her baby. This powerful moment, though unexpected, reflects how birth has the ability to uncover and heal emotional blockages, offering deep transformation. Nathalie’s story is a beautiful testament to the sacredness of birth and the profound shifts that occur when we are supported, seen, and trust ourselves in the birthing space.Show Notes: Instagram: @grateful_mammaDoula: @eleanor.lambert.doulaMidwife: @nurturingbirthhunterKinesiology: @erin.dube.kinesiologyJoin the Newcastle Homebirth Community HERE.Mentioned in this episode:Positive Birth Australia Birth Affirmations Tracks Available Now!Did you know that studies have shown affirmations can significantly boost self-esteem and reduce stress? S5 EP166: Chatlotte Brooker: Fraternal Twin Freebirth + 40 Weeks Gestation + Prodromal Labour

On today’s show, I have the pleasure to welcome back fellow twin mama, Charlie, to share the birth story of her fraternal twin girls. If you haven’t already heard Charlie’s journey, you can revisit her first two births in episode #68—where she transitioned from a belly birth with her first baby to a VBAC homebirth transfer.Even before the confirmation, Charlie sensed the presence of twin energy around her, though it still came as a beautiful surprise when she discovered she was carrying two babies. However, this revelation shifted her plans from a midwife-assisted homebirth to a more intentional unfolding of her journey. Rather than rush into decisions, she surrendered to the flow, taking each moment as it came, letting intuition lead the way.Throughout her pregnancy, Charlie faced her fears head-on, allowing them to surface and be released. She used minimal scans, balancing her need to reassure her husband with her own deep faith in her body’s wisdom. Slowly, the clarity emerged—unless she felt unsafe, she would birth her twins at home, with her husband by her side.Charlie’s story beautifully dismantles the common belief that twin births are automatically high-risk or dangerous, revealing instead the innate power of birth, even with multiples. Show Notes:Instagram: @thebrookertribeListen to Charlie share her previous birth stories HERE.Mentioned in this episode:PBA Surrender Birth Pool HirePositive Birth Australia's Surrender birth pools, available for hire Australia-wide at just $250. Today, we welcome back Winona as she shares the beautiful story of her most recent birth—the arrival of her son. Winona first shared her journey in episode #106,  which was an experience that took her to the fiery depths of transformation, and out of that, she emerged with profound wisdom.Feeling a deep soul-calling for another baby, Winona opened the door to her son’s arrival. Her pregnancy became an invitation to surrender completely, trusting her baby’s timeline and anchoring into her intuition. She consciously tuned into her needs, never feeling the pull to seek outside guidance, knowing that all the answers she needed were already within. The mastery of her mindset became her greatest tool, as she approached this birth with the intention to work in harmony with her body. When labour began, Winona called upon all the lessons her first birth had gifted her. She embodied the deep remembrance of those teachings and birthed her son fully immersed in her primal power. Yasmin Beazley: Homebirth Transfer + High BMI + Prodromal Labour + Belly Birth + Delayed Cord Clamping + 5.8kg Baby

On today’s episode, Yasmin shares her journey of preparing for a home birth and how she navigated the unexpected twists with resilience.. Yasmin's journey toward birth began long before she even met her husband. She consciously chose to fill her mind with stories of birth that were rooted in strength, empowerment, and love. What truly stood out to her was the undeniable power of birthing in a space that felt safe and familiar—home. When labour began, Yasmin felt excited and ready to embrace the rite of passage that lay ahead.. However, as the hours stretched into days, her experience shifted. Prodromal labour tested her strength in ways she hadn’t anticipated. Exhaustion crept in, and Yasmin, in tune with her intuition, made the decision to transfer to the hospital. What followed was a testament to Yasmin’s inner fire—the fierce mama within her emerged as she advocated for her desires during her belly birth. In surrendering to the unfolding of her birth experience, Yasmin shares the profound lessons she learnt about releasing control and embracing the flow of birth, wherever it may take you. Today we’re joined by Jo, a Forensic Accountant turned Psychic Medium, sharing her four birth stories. Growing up in a family of eight, Jo was surrounded by babies, and hospital births were simply the norm. Her first birth experience was profoundly shaped by her mother-in-law’s illness and passing, which, unbeknownst to her at the time, would mark her initiation into the world of mediumship.Today, Jo opens up about her hospital births, which she once saw as positive, yet were shaped by a cascade of interventions - inductions, episiotomies, NICU stays, and even an epidural injury. It was through the gift of mediumship and learning to trust her intuition that Jo realised all the wisdom she needed to guide her through her fourth pregnancy and birth was already within her. On today’s episode, I sit down with Chloe, the other half of The Road to Wisdom podcast, as she shares her five birth experiences. She begins with her first experience at a birth centre, where she had a fast, four-hour labour at almost 42 weeks. Despite the quick and intense nature of her labour, she found safety in her birth space and instinctively turned inward to birth her baby. This experience became the foundation for her future births and the choices she made. Her second birth was a planned homebirth, but it took an unexpected turn when her baby arrived prematurely at 35 weeks and required time in the NICU. This vulnerable experience deepened her understanding of the medical system and impacted her mindset. However, during her next pregnancy, she overcame any lingering doubts, restored her trust in her body, and birthed her third baby safely at home at 38 weeks.Chloe’s fourth birth felt more like a gentle unfolding, and marked the arrival of her first son. By the time she was preparing for the birth of her fifth baby, Chloe shares how she laid crucial groundwork with her midwife to reclaim the sacredness of her fourth. Keshia’s journey into motherhood began with a hospital birth under the care of a private OB who had also delivered her and her siblings. Her third birth, a freebirth at home, mirrored her previous experience and left her with a deep sense that, although two children had been the original plan, the presence of a fourth child—a daughter—was unmistakable. Today, we explore how she navigated her fourth birth during COVID, her experience with stop-and-start labour, and the 25-minute speedy entrance of her fifth baby. This is a story filled with wonder, wisdom, and a glimpse into Keshia’s deepest experiences, which she shares in full over on The Road to Wisdom podcast.Show Notes:Instagram: @keshia_tognazziniPodcast: @theroadtowisdom.podcastBirth Photographers: @lalunaphotoandvideo @hadasimagesKeshia & Chloe's Birth Stories HERE.Mentioned in this episode:Positive Birth Australia Birth Affirmations Tracks Available Now!Did you know that studies have shown affirmations can significantly boost self-esteem and reduce stress? Today’s episode, I have the delight to be chatting with first-time mother, Jordan. Jordan’s experience in the hospital as a practicing midwife was described as shell-shocking. She had an innate understanding that many of the procedures performed on women were more harmful than helpful, which led her to choose the path of birthing her baby at home, where she felt safe and comfortable. When it came time to conceive her first child, she eventually sought out fertility support. Absorbing all the resources on undisturbed physiological birth, combined with her midwifery knowledge, gave her the confidence to embrace her unique path. Today, she takes us through the boundaries she set to keep her birth space sacred and her experience with cervical shock syndrome.Show Notes: Instagram: @fromwomb_toworldHypnobirthing: @hypnobirthing_with_skyeMidwife: @the_mindful_midwife_auPhotographer: @earthchild.photographyMentioned in this episode:PBA Surrender Birth Pool HirePositive Birth Australia's Surrender birth pools, available for hire Australia-wide at just $250. S5 EP155: Brooke Hall: Traumatic Hospital Birth/Episiotomy/Blood Loss + Healing Homebirth

On today’s episode, we explore the contrasting journeys of Brooke’s two births. Brooke's first pregnancy was a planned and smooth experience, much like her initial birth plan. She envisioned a minimal pain experience, even joking she would "walk backwards into the hospital." However, the reality was a traumatic birth that left her shaken. Initially accepting this as normal, it wasn't until she heard other women who had experienced trauma similar to hers, describe their second births as empowering, that she began to question her own experience and the trauma she carried. When Brooke unexpectedly conceived her second child, she was determined to birth outside the system that had caused her so much pain. Despite facing resistance from an OB who refused to acknowledge the crucial information around her first birth's blood loss, Brooke fought for and ultimately secured the homebirth she longed for.Today, Brooke shares the profound differences between her two experiences. She recounts the disbelief and reverence she felt during her second birth, experiencing the true power of a physiological birth left undisturbed. Show Notes:Instagram: @brookeshannanBusiness: @baseskinperthGym: @avadaathleticaBirth Photographer: @antjemclaughlanphotographyMentioned in this episode:Positive Birth Australia Birth Affirmations Tracks Available Now!Did you know that studies have shown affirmations can significantly boost self-esteem and reduce stress? S5 EP150: Amanda Sempf: Two Hospital Births, Private Midwife, Preeclampsia, Placenta Previa, Placenta Accreta, PPH, Hysterectomy, 5.3kg Baby

Today, we dive into Amanda's remarkable birth stories, marked by challenges yet underscored by her unwavering resilience, advocacy and deep knowledge. Amanda's excitement about her first birth was initially clouded by a diagnosis of placenta previa at 32 weeks. This resolved as time passed, but Amanda soon faced another hurdle: preeclampsia, which led to a recommendation for induction at 38 weeks. Despite a series of medical interventions, Amanda achieved the vaginal birth she had hoped for. However, a tense moment occurred when her midwife pulled on her placenta and discovered that it was deeply attached to her uterus, a condition known as placenta accreta, which required Amanda to be taken away to have it surgical removed. When Amanda prepared to welcome her second child, she was armed with greater knowledge and a strong resolve to advocate for her choices. Despite being diagnosed once again with placenta previa, she maintained her positivity and advocated for her birth plan. Defying expectations, Amanda successfully gave birth to a healthy 5.3kg son in the way she envisioned. Join me as Amanda shares her inspiring birth stories, highlighting the crucial moments she asserted herself, the challenging discussions with healthcare providers, and her navigation when faced with the discovery of placenta accreta again, leading to significant and life-changing surgery.Show Notes:Instagram: @amandasempfBirth education: @2lifedoula Midwife: @benefitingbirthandbeyond Acupuncture: @wombtoworld.aus Photographer: @jaydearchivesphotographyMentioned in this episode:Positive Birth Australia Birth Affirmations Tracks Available Now!Did you know that studies have shown affirmations can significantly boost self-esteem and reduce stress? S5 EP149: Poppy Pritchard: Homebirth + Freebirth/Brow Presentation/'Big' Baby/Prolapse

In today's episode, I sit down with Poppy, the host of Out the Gate Parenting, to explore her two distinctly different birth experiences. Poppy was inspired to choose homebirth after her sister's peaceful home delivery, contrasted sharply by witnessing a friend's hospital birth. Knowing this was the right path, Poppy engaged a homebirth midwife shortly after she consciously conceived her first child. However, as her birthing time approached, an uncomfortable encounter led Poppy to question the support she was receiving. This experience ultimately influenced her decision to forgo a private midwife for any future deliveries, despite having a beautiful first birth. When it was time to welcome her second child, Poppy felt confident and prepared. As the urge to push arrived unexpectedly early, Poppy found herself embracing the profound lesson of surrendering to the unique journey that each birth unfolds. After five intense hours of pushing, Poppy sensed something was unusual but remained unafraid, drawing strength from deep within to bring her baby into the world. As soon as he arrived, it was revealed that her son had been in a brow presentation. Poppy shares the challenges of the prolapse that followed and the natural healing process she embraced after this fiery birth, offering profound insights into the lessons she learnt along the way.Show Notes: Instagram: @outthegateparenting_podcastListen to Out the Gate Parenting Podcast HERE.Mentioned in this episode:Positive Birth Australia Birth Affirmations Tracks Available Now!Did you know that studies have shown affirmations can significantly boost self-esteem and reduce stress? S5 EP147: Born at Home Film with Amanda Banks and Eleanor Currie

In today's episode, I am delighted to welcome the visionary creators of the Australian documentary, Born at Home, which explores the intimate world of homebirth. Following the empowering experience of her second child's birth, Amanda, with her extensive background in birth advocacy and evidence-based maternity care, felt an undeniable call to create a resource that could educate and empower other women. Their mission was to create a film that not only moves its audience with the inspiring real-life stories featured but also provides evidence-based information, empowering viewers with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their own birthing experience.Today, we not only dive into Amanda and Eleanor's personal birth journeys but also explore the dedication, passion, and resilience that fuelled the creation of this impactful documentary. S5 EP146: Kristine Lauria: Humanitarian Midwife + Global Midwife Director Breech Without Borders

I'm thrilled to introduce Kristine, an international midwife with over three decades of experience in the birth space. Kristine has dedicated her career to guiding women around the globe through their most transformative journey, offering compassion, expertise, and a profound understanding of the birthing process. Kristine's journey began as an apprentice midwife, working with the Amish community where home births were the norm. Witnessing birth unfold naturally, without medical intervention unless absolutely necessary, became her foundation. This early experience shaped her belief in the innate ability of women's bodies to birth, contrasting sharply with the hospital protocols she later encountered. Her path led her to specialise in breech births. Her work with Breech Without Borders has taken her around the world, teaching birth workers to view breech birth as a natural variation that requires a nuanced approach, rather than an immediate emergency,Kristine's approach to birth, particularly with high-risk cases, emphasises individual assessment and trust in the birthing process. Her perspective challenges the traditional medical model and offers a profound reevaluation of how we view birth. This dedication to her philosophy is evident in her work, which takes her to some of the most challenging environments, including refugee camps, where she provides the full scope of midwifery care to high-risk women. Despite encountering countless scenarios over her years of practice, Kristine remains amazed by the unpredictability of birth, recognising that anything is possible. In today's episode, Kristine shares her insights into breech birth, offering a glimpse into its diverse manifestations and the body's remarkable ability to adapt. She also delves into her extensive experience with multiple births, including a recent triplet home birth featured on episode #143Join me in this captivating conversation as we explore the world and mind of one of the greatest midwives of our time. Show Notes:Instagram: @globalmidwife64@breechwithoutbordersWebsite: www.breechwithoutborders.orgHow to Book a Training HERE.Upcoming Trainings HERE.
