Pastor Todd explained that Peter had three primary purposes when he wrote this letter that we now know as the book of 2 Peter. One of the purposes was to tell us about the dangers of false teachers. Another purpose was to remind us that our faith in Jesus Christ should never become stale. Finally, Peter wrote to encourage believers and to remind them that Jesus is indeed coming back again! In this first sermon of this series, we took a look at some characteristics that are to be on display in the life of each true follower of Jesus Christ.

Throughout this sermon series, we've seen that if we are truly in Christ, we have a Living Hope. We've seen in God’s Word that for believers, submission is required on our part (to authorities and in marriage - unless you are being asked to do something that contradicts God's Word). Most recently, we've seen that true Christians will indeed suffer for the sake of righteousness. In this final sermon, we see what God's Word says about service to Him - how we are expected to serve all of the time, but especially when it is difficult. We will see the great importance of walking in humility.

In this week’s sermon, Pastor Todd continues the 1 Peter series and preaches from 1 Peter 4:1-19, We learn not to be surprised by suffering, but to expect it as part of the Christian journey. Peter encourages believers to view suffering as a way to refine our faith and bear witness to God's grace in a fallen world. Through trials, we are called to persevere, live according to God's will, and rejoice in the hope that our suffering is temporary, while our reward is eternal.

God wants us to pray because it is the only way for us to plug into His power.

We are commanded to be patient as we actively wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to return.

God warned the wealthy and greedy because of their hoarding habit, withholding wages from their workers, their luxurious lifestyle, and they persecuted the poor.

We make God's will our first priority when we address wrong attitudes rooted in presumption, pride, or preferences.

When we depend on the Lord, we can live at peace with God, others, and ourselves.

We begin to walk in wisdom when we trust God, follow His ways, and leave the results to Him.

The tongue cannot be tamed, but it can be transformed.

I want to go to heaven because I want to see the beauty of that city, the people of that city, and most importantly the Savior who made all things possible.

A faith that works has evidence to support it.

Favoritism is foolish because it has no place in the Christian life, it is a sin and breaks God's law, and it leads to judgment rather than mercy.

Responding to God's Word requires humility and honesty.

We successfully endure a trial when we avoid three things: blaming God, yielding to temptation, and being deceived about God's character or purpose.

We learn three things about responding to trials that advance our Christian testimony.
