Fool's gold or not, there are plenty of positives to take away from this game. The bye week has passed. The same problems seem to persist, and now the head coach thinks it's time to shake things up. He's not wrong, he's just a little... late.Most of us probably aren't buying this line from MLF at this point, but if something does change for the better this week, the question becomes - what took this long???LaFleur has a lot of goodwill built up with the organization and fanbase after three straight 13-win seasons to start his career as head coach. It isn't likely that his seating is hot yet, but should it be?There's plenty of blame to go around from the front office, to coaching, to players.The head coach's job is to be a leader of men. Whether those men are talented enough is the GM's problem. We've seen this group demonstrate talent in a lot of positions, and we've also seen those same players regress over the past two years. When talent regresses the investigation should start with coaching.Truth is, the coach and the GM share enough blame that neither is fully responsible for what's happening. That alone probably buys both the GM and the HC another year at least. What they do with 2024 very likely determines their future with the Packers.Will MLF improve the coaching staff?Will Gute bring in some vets?Time will tell.There is one bright spot to hang onto through this difficult season - these kids don't quit.Almost everything else can be coached, but you can't coach effort. You can't coach the desire to never quit. There is no shortage of reasons this Packers team is going into the bye week with a losing record. Coaching is high on that list. If there's one thing the youngest roster in the league needs to be successful, it's good coaching.Matt LaFleur's start as the Packers head coach ranks among the best in history, but it's fair to wonder how much of that success the former QB is responsible for.We saw the special teams unit be historically bad when LaFleur tried putting one of his buddies at ST coordinator. He has since corrected that by hiring one of the best ST coordinators in the business.Now the OC and DC need the same treatment. LaFleur can't will his friends to be successful. On a short week against a very good Lions defense, this Packers coaching staff looked like they threw the gameplan together like a high school student procrastinating that big paper. The offense didn't even attempt to run the ball until their 3rd series of the game. That's not a winning gameplan with a HOF QB, much less with Love.It didn't get much better from there. Matt LaFleur and his staff deserve a standing ovation for having this team ready for Week-1 in all phases. Were they perfect? No, but they didn't need to be perfect to demonstrate some of the potential this talented roster has. LaFleur had Love and that offense looking sharp, even without one of their biggest weapons - Christian Watson. Bisaccia had his rookie kicker and punter looking like seasoned vets. The return games showed promise, and the coverage units were solid. Bisaccia has taken what was a historically bad special teams unit two seasons ago, and turned it into what now looks like a strength of this team. Joe Barry seems to have done the impossible, and evolved into an effective DC. Not only did the scheme look effective against the Bears, the players looked absolutely fired up and dialed in. There was a lot to be excited about from this defense. Now... can they show that consistently throughout the season?
