Ep 1702Cheesehead Radio #330: Packers Swiftly Reset The Season
Five weeks ago, we had buried the Green Bay Packers playoff chances as nothing more than a fantasy, as be obliged ourselves to just look out for "growth" for the rest of the 2023 season. And then, the Packers beat the defending champs in prime time, securing a spot--for the moment--as the NFC's seventh seed with five games to go. It's a balancing act of giddy optimism and grounded expectations as the CHR crew talk you through the improvements on both sides of the ball, and prep you for a big MNF game against the Giants. Tune in as we all yell, "Go Pack Go!"Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. Ep 1701Packers Weekly #18: LaFleur Has Re-Entered the COTY Chat
Before this stretch of wins, we were talking about LaFleur's job being on the line if he didn't correct the ship. Of course, he was listening to the Packers Weekly Podcast and he took our advice to heart. At least that's what we choose to believe based on how they've turned things around since then. The most frustrating part about the losing streak was watching the offense look lost. We were all hoping to see the MLF offense run the way it should be, but we got an unrecognizable mess. Now it seems like an entirely different team is taking the field on offense. Jordan Love is progressing every single week. The play-calling looks flat out brilliant. AJ Dillon is running better, and the O-line looks like one of the best units in the league. We may never know what "shake things up" meant, but one thing is certain, MLF is behind the changes made and they are working. If LaFleur is able to lead this team to a playoff birth in the first year of Jordan Love starting, with the youngest offense in the league, give that man his much deserved Coach of the Year hardware. Ep 1697Packers Weekly #17: Did Beating the Lions Change Your Expectations?
If you've been watching every Packers game this season, you probably don't feel like you've been watching a playoff team. Even in their wins, they haven't looked overly impressive... That is until this win over the Lions on Thanksgiving. The Lions came into the game with an 8-2 record. Not many teams get to 8-2 by accident. As much as I'd like to treat the Lions like the poverty franchise they have been for so long, they are not that this season. Despite that, the Packers looked like the better team in an impressive win. So what now? Is the season a failure if they don't make the playoffs? What does that say about LaFleur, Love, Stenavich, and Gute? Can the Packers actually beat the Chiefs? Lots of good questions. What a fun place to be in the first year of the Love era! Go Pack Go!Be sure to join Myles Teteak and Tim Hamilton every week as they breakdown what’s going on in the world of the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1696Cheesehead Radio #329: All Gas, No Brake....Finally!
Luck? Who needs luck? The Green Bay Packers played four quarters of complimentary football for a national audience on Thanksgiving and got a little revenge against our newest division rival, the Detroit Lions. All is good in the world for Packers fans, right? The CHR breaks down a great game and preps you for their biggest test of the season as we welcome Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to Lambeau Field this weekend.Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. Ep 1695Packers Therapy #443: Lefleur "Runs to Win," Eludes Security as Packers Cage Lions
The Packers win in an unexpected victory against the Lions on Thanksgiving, surprising and confusing both Chris and Dave, robbing them of their usual hot takes. Are things starting to come together for the Green and Gold? Chris and Dave discuss whether expectations should be tempered moving into the end of the season.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/packerstherapyPayPal: [email protected] its first show in 2005, Packers Therapy is the longest-running Packers podcast on the Internet. Ep 1694LempsTalkinPack #151: Pack Ruin Turkey Day For Detroit
Chris Lempesis is back, this week from a special location, to break down Green Bay's impressive 29-22 Thanksgiving win over the Detroit Lions on Thursday at Ford Field. He is particularly impressed with the job done by Matt LaFleur and he tells you why Thursday was one of his finest moments yet in Green Bay. He also heaps praise on Jordan Love, Christian Watson and Rashan Gary among others. Lastly, he takes questions and comments from listeners received via social media and email. You can follow Chris on twitter at LempsMKE (@ItsJustChrisNow)LempsTalkingPack is a part of the Packers Talk family of podcasts, serving up enough weekly podcasts to satisfy the most fervent of Packer fans. Ep 1693Packers Weekly #16: Race For WR1 Heating Up Between Doubs and Reed
The Packers haven't faced the toughest opponents the past 3 weeks, but the progress the offense is making can't be denied. So what exactly did "shake things up" mean when a frustrated LaFleur dropped that in a press conference before the Rams game? We will probably never find out, because teams don't (and shouldn't) let that kind of stuff out of the building. Whatever it meant, it seems to have made a difference.Jordan Love has had 2 of the best games of his career back to back, the offensive line is playing better, WRs are making more plays and less mistakes, and they've won 2 of 3 games after losing 5 of 6.Maybe Lafleur stepped back into the OC role.Maybe some simple routines were disrupted.Whatever it is, let's hope it keeps working, and this young offense continues to grow.Along the way, let's just be thankful that we have Packers football to watch on Thanksgiving Day.The Lions played spoiler to good Packers teams on Thanksgiving Day in the past, maybe it's time for the Packers to return the favor...Happy Thanksgiving, Packers fans!Go Pack Go!Be sure to join Myles Teteak and Tim Hamilton every week as they breakdown what’s going on in the world of the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1692No Huddle Radio #139: Packers Look for Revenge vs Lions On Thanksgiving
The Packers look to get revenge on the Detroit Lions for their Week 4 loss at Lambeau Field. We discuss the progress the Packers offense is making, particularly Jordan Love and his young receiving corps and break down some key plays from the win over the Chargers.Plus we examine the key matchups on both sides of the ball that will determine if the Packers manage to break the Lions four-game winning streak against Green Bay including a look at the trenches on both sides of the ball. All this and more on this week's podcast with Sean Tehan and Gil Martin. On No Huddle Radio, hosts Gil Martin and Sean Tehan give you in-depth analysis of what’s happening with the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1691Packers Therapy 442: We Love LA!
Green Bay has now won two of its last three games, both against teams that share SoFi Stadium in SoCal. Chris and Dave think all that separates the Packers from the Super Bowl is more games against teams from Los Angeles. Here's hoping USC and UCLA are on the Packers schedule later this season...Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/packerstherapyPayPal: [email protected] its first show in 2005, Packers Therapy is the longest-running Packers podcast on the Internet. Ep 1690Cheesehead Radio #328: Bring Me a Higher Love
Maybe it was a little bit of luck, and maybe a little bit of sun in the Chargers' eyes, or even cleverly planted soft spots in the turf. But no matter how you slice it, the Green Bay Packers--and Jordan Love--played well enough to beat a pretty good team at home on Sunday. There's a lot of positives to take out of this game, and the CHR Gang is here to talk you through it as we prep for the Thanksgiving Day Showdown with the Detroit Lions.Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. Ep 1689LempsTalkinPack #150: Love Grows Stronger
Chris Lempesis is back to break down Green Bay's 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. He is beyond excited by the work turned in from quarterback Jordan Love and the rest of this young Packers offense and tells you why Sunday could be a big moment in Love's development. Green Bay's defense definitely got some help from the Chargers, but there were still a few players who stood out to him on that side of the ball, as well. Ep 1688No Huddle Radio #138:Packers/Chargers Battle at Lambeau on Sunday
The Green Bay Packers made some progress last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers but they still have more work to do as well. Today we look at some of the things the team did better in Pittsburgh including Jordan Love's downfield throwing. We also break down the key matchups on both sides of the ball that will determine the winner of this interconference game between the Pack and the LA Chargers. All this and more on this week's podcast with Sean Tehan and Gil Martin. On No Huddle Radio, hosts Gil Martin and Sean Tehan give you in-depth analysis of what’s happening with the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1687Packers Weekly #15: Are We Looking at Christian Watson All Wrong?
For the average observer, even former players and coaches that are no longer in the building, it can be very difficult to know what SHOULD be happening with the Packers week-to-week.We can critique the results of what we see on the field, but we don't always know what the design actually was. A player may do something that looks like a mistake to the average observer, but that assignment was actually by design. Just the same, a player may make a very impressive play that was entirely improvised but looked like a great play design. It can be very easy to criticise Christian Watson for his performance so far this season, but we may not be seeing the full picture. We see Reed, Doubs, Musgrave and Wicks making impressive plays, and we ask ourselves why Watson isn't making more impressive plays. Maybe what we should be asking is, how many of those plays by Reed, Doubs, Musgrave and Wicks are being made possible by Christian Watson taking defenders out of the play.It seems reasonable to believe that is happening in some cases, and it may be by design of the offense.Based on that assumption, one might ask themselves why the offense isn't doing a better job of taking advantage of the space Watson is creating by stretching the defense.Ultimately, I think we can all sense that this team is taking steps forward and growing each week. Some weeks might be more painful than others, but progress is undoubtedly being made, and this team still shows no signs of quit in them. It may not be a great season, but this season is far from lost.Patience, Packers fans. What lies ahead could be a lot of fun.Go Pack Go!Be sure to join Myles Teteak and Tim Hamilton every week as they breakdown what’s going on in the world of the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1686Cheesehead Radio #327: SIlver Linings in a Steel Curtain
It was a tough loss to the Steelers, and the Cheesehead Radio crew point out some of the most glaring disappointments (i.e. coaching) while also acknoledging the growth taking place with players like Jordan Love and Jayden Reed. It's not all good, and it's not all bad. Welcome to Packer Football in 2023.Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. We break down some of the better play that helped the Pack beat the Rams including the play of several rookies. We also discuss the key matchups against the Steelers including how the Pack can slow down T.J. Ep 1681Packers Therapy #439: Rams Caught in Thicket; Sacrifice Game to Packers
Chris and Dave talk about a biblical Packers victory over the mediocre Rams. Chris argues a win is a win, while Dave has his usual pessimistic takes, including Watson's unimpressive season. 3-5 is better than 2-6, and with a challenging schedule ahead, maybe some momentum can be built off what appeared to be a lackluster win on the surface.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/packerstherapyPayPal: [email protected] its first show in 2005, Packers Therapy is the longest-running Packers podcast on the Internet. Ep 1680Cheesehead Radio #326:When You Hit Rock Bottom, The Only Way Is Up
In a war of attrition, eventually, there is a winner, and on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers halted a four-game skid with a win over the hapless LA Rams. While there's time to temper our expectations, there was a lot of positives that Jersey Al and CD are thrilled to gush about.Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. Ep 1679Packers Weekly #14: Joe Barry's Sul-less Defense Looked... Good?
Fool's gold or not, there are plenty of positives to take away from this game. Obviously this was not a good Rams roster, so this win does not indicate in any way that the Packers are ready to make a playoff run or anything like that. What it does indicate is this team still has life in them, and they are still in the process of growing. There was a Sean Rhyan sighting, and a quality one at that.We got our first (of many, hopefully) Luke Musgrave TD.Jordan Love didn't look perfect, but he certainly looked like he took a step in the right direction.Joe Barry's Sul-less defense looked... good. Maybe Gute and company saw something in Valentine that made them comfortable sending Douglas to Buffalo. All after Matt LaFleur finally decided to shake things up... We have to enjoy these wins in a tough growth season for the youngest roster in the league. Now can they go to Pittsburgh and steal a win from the Steelers?Enjoy the ride, Packers fans!Go Pack Go!Be sure to join Myles Teteak and Tim Hamilton every week as they breakdown what’s going on in the world of the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1670LempsTalkinPack #148: Welcome Back, Aaron Jones!
Chris Lempesis is back to break down Green Bay's 20-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at Lambeau Field. He talks about the return of Aaron Jones - for real this time - and what it meant to the offense as a whole. Even if it was Brett Rypien under center for the Rams instead of Matthew Stafford, he still reserves special praise for a couple members of Green Bay's defense, as well. And since he was actually in attendance for this one, he talks about a key improvement to Lambeau Field. Ep 1669No Huddle Radio #136:Packers Host Rams After Trading Rasul Douglas the Trade Deadline
The Green Bay Packers had a busy week, signing edge rusher Rashan Gary to a big extension and trading veteran CB Rasul Douglas to the Bills. Ep 1668Cheesehead Radio #325: Love Isn't The Problem, But He's Also Not The Answer
The Packers hit rock bottom in a loss to the Vikings, and then send beloved corner Rasul Douglass to the Bills in a trade deadline deal. There's a lot to unpack here, but one thing is clear: the 2023 Packers playoff drive is officially over as players, coaches, GMs...and Packer fans...all try to figure out the identity...and future...of this team.Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. Ep 1667Packers Weekly #13: What Is Matt LaFleur 'Shaking Up' This Week?
The bye week has passed. The same problems seem to persist, and now the head coach thinks it's time to shake things up. He's not wrong, he's just a little... late. Most of us probably aren't buying this line from MLF at this point, but if something does change for the better this week, the question becomes - what took this long???LaFleur has a lot of goodwill built up with the organization and fanbase after three straight 13-win seasons to start his career as head coach. It isn't likely that his seating is hot yet, but should it be?There's plenty of blame to go around from the front office, to coaching, to players. The head coach's job is to be a leader of men. Whether those men are talented enough is the GM's problem. We've seen this group demonstrate talent in a lot of positions, and we've also seen those same players regress over the past two years. When talent regresses the investigation should start with coaching.Truth is, the coach and the GM share enough blame that neither is fully responsible for what's happening. That alone probably buys both the GM and the HC another year at least. What they do with 2024 very likely determines their future with the Packers. Will MLF improve the coaching staff? Will Gute bring in some vets?Time will tell. There is one bright spot to hang onto through this difficult season - these kids don't quit.Almost everything else can be coached, but you can't coach effort. You can't coach the desire to never quit. If this group of players has that, and it looks like they do, then this group is worth building around.Hang in there, Packer fans!Be sure to join Myles Teteak and Tim Hamilton every week as they breakdown what’s going on in the world of the Green Bay Packers. Ep 1667Cheesehead Radio #324: Not (Quite) Rock Bottom Yet
With a stunning loss to what we thought was the worst team in the league, Packers fans are doing a lot of soul-searching, which tends to manifest itself on Twitter as angry pitchforks demanding people get fired. This week's loss was bad, but with a game against the hated Minnesota Vikings at home on Sunday, things could very quickly hit rock bottom for Matt LaFleur and your 2023 Green Bay Packers.Be sure to join C.D., Al and Kelly on their regular jaunts through the Packers Universe. Ep 1667Packers Weekly #12: Does "Self-Scouting" Mean What They Think It Means?
When you have an extended amount of time to prepare for one of the worst teams in the NFL, you shouldn't lose that game.So why were the Packers not prepared for their opponent? Self-scouting.They've been doing lots of this self-scouting business the past few weeks, and it doesn't seem to have led to improvements. Which makes it fair to wonder if they spent enough time preparing for the Broncos. There are players making mental mistakes. Mistakes are being repeated week after week. Mistakes from 2022 are being repeated in 2023. Not that the issues facing the team can be narrowed down to a singular problem, but one coach seems to be getting less criticism than the rest - looking at you, Stenavich. While there is no shortage of blame to point, there are also flashes of brilliance from different places on this Packers team. Lots of growth is happening before our eyes, Packers fans, but growth is never going to happen as quick as any of us want and it will certainly be painful. Ep 1660Packers Weekly #10: Will Loyalty Be Matt LaFleur's Downfall?
There is no shortage of reasons this Packers team is going into the bye week with a losing record. Coaching is high on that list. If there's one thing the youngest roster in the league needs to be successful, it's good coaching.Matt LaFleur's start as the Packers head coach ranks among the best in history, but it's fair to wonder how much of that success the former QB is responsible for.We saw the special teams unit be historically bad when LaFleur tried putting one of his buddies at ST coordinator. He has since corrected that by hiring one of the best ST coordinators in the business. Now the OC and DC need the same treatment. LaFleur can't will his friends to be successful. He needs a DC that can get the most out of his players' ability, and he needs an OC that knows how to develop a young QB.It doesn't look like he has either of those right now. Will Matt LaFleur do what he did with the ST coordinator, and go find better options at DC and OC, or will he live and die by loyalty? Ep 1660Packers Weekly #9: Blame It On The Blueprint: Coaching Loses To The Lions
On a short week against a very good Lions defense, this Packers coaching staff looked like they threw the gameplan together like a high school student procrastinating that big paper. The offense didn't even attempt to run the ball until their 3rd series of the game. That's not a winning gameplan with a HOF QB, much less with Love.It didn't get much better from there. The defense was outmatched and once again, had no answer for the run game. Since the loss to the Lions, Joe Barry has admitted that he can't just sit in a nickel and hope for the best when his defense is getting bulldozed... I would tend to agree. In fact, I learned that playing Madden when I was 12.Hopefully the DC quickly learns how to strategize against different opposing offenses, but that's a big hope. We might be better off hoping Matt LaFleur finds a new DC after this season. So what's the silver lining? This team is young and talented. We should see the talent grow every week despite the gameplan. The Raiders should be a good opportunity to clean things up and get back on track.Go Pack Go!Be sure to join Myles Teteak and Tim Hamilton every week as they breakdown what’s going on in the world of the Green Bay Packers. In the words of Starlord from the MCU movies, its time that Packers fan calm down and take account of this 2-2 Green Bay team that has looked great at times, while also looked hapless at others. Is the world truly crumbling, as Packers Twitter/X/TwiX seemed to believe in the dark moments following a bitter 34-20 loss to the Lions at Lambeau Field? Ep 1658Packers Therapy # 434: Roaring Defeat: A Packer’s Pride Wounded
In this wild episode, we’re not lion when we say the Packers were absolutely clawed apart in a 34-20 mauling by the Detroit Lions. We pounce on the soft underbelly of the Packers' defense, which proved to be as intimidating as a sleeping cub. The offensive line? More like the defensive prey, easily hunted and conquered. We’re not kitten around as we roar with both laughter and frustration at Matt LaFleur’s kittenish approach and Joe Barry’s seemingly catatonic strategies. Amidst the jungle of critiques, the enchanting tunes of Meg 2 and Taylor Swift prowl in, their melodies a brief escape from the savannah of defeat.
