無音の津波のように圧倒的に押し寄せてくる。気がついた時、それはもう彼の目の前に立ちはだかり、手足h明日っかり痺れている。時間の流れが一旦止まる。周りの空気が希薄になり、うまく呼吸ができなくなる。周りの人々や主物が、すべて自分とは無線のものと化してしまう。その液体の壁はかれの全身を呑み込んでいく。世界が暗く閉ざされていく感覚があるものの、意識が薄れるわけではない。レールのポイントが切り替えらるだけだ。意識は部分的にはむしろ鋭敏になる。恐怖はない。しかしめを開けていることはできない。まぶには固く閉じられる。周りの物音も遠のいていく。そしてそのお馴染みの映像が何度も意識のスクリーンに映し出される。身体の至ることろから汗がふきだしてくる。シャツの脇の下が湿っていくのがわかる。全身が細かく震え始める。鼓動が遠く、大きくなる。
誰かと同席している場所であれば、天五は立ちくらみのふりをする。それは事実、立ちくらみに似ている。時間さえ経過すれば、すべては平常に復する。彼はポケットからハンカチを取り出し、口に当ててじっとしている。手をあげて、何でもない、心配することはないと相手にシグナルを送る。三十秒はどで終わることもあれば、一分以上続くこともある。その間おなじ映像がビデオテープに例えればリピート状態で自動反復される。
母親がスリップの肩紐を外し、その硬くなった乳首をどこかの男が吸う。彼女は目を閉じ、大きく吐息をつく。母乳の懐かしい匂いが微かに漂う。赤ん坊にとって嗅覚はもっとも先鋭な器官だ。嗅覚が多くを教えてくれる。あるときにはずべてお教えてくれる。音は聞こえない。空気はどろりとしてた。液状になっている。聴き取れるのは、自らのソフトな心音だけだ。

The air around him becomes thin, and he can no longer breathe properly.
周りの人々や物が、すべて自分とは無縁のものと化してしまう。
People and objects around him turn into things that have nothing to do with him.
その液体の壁は彼の全身を呑み込んでいく。
That liquid wall engulfs his entire body.
世界が暗く閉ざされていく感覚があるものの、意識が薄れるわけではない。
There's a feeling that the world is becoming dark and closed off, yet consciousness does not fade.
レールのポイントが切り替えられるだけだ。
It's just that the points on the rail are being switched.
意識は部分的にはむしろ鋭敏になる。
Consciousness becomes partially, if not more, acute.
恐怖はない。
There is no fear.
しかし目を開けていることはできない。
However, he cannot keep his eyes open.
まぶたは固く閉じられる。
The eyelids are tightly closed.
周りの物音も遠のいていく。
The sounds around him also fade away.
そしてそのお馴染みの映像が何度も意識のスクリーンに映し出される。
Then, that familiar image is projected onto the screen of his consciousness multiple times.
身体の至るところから汗がふきだしてくる。
Sweat starts pouring out from all over his body.
シャツの脇の下が湿っていくのがわかる。
He can feel the underarms of his shirt getting wet.
全身が細かく震え始める。
His whole body starts to tremble finely.
鼓動が遠く、大きくなる。
His heartbeat becomes distant and louder.
誰かと同席している場所であれば、天五は立ちくらみのふりをする。
If he is sitting with someone else, Tengo pretends to have a dizzy spell.
それは事実、立ちくらみに似ている。
In fact, it is similar to a dizzy spell.
時間さえ経過すれば、すべては平常に復する。
As time passes, everything returns to normal.
彼はポケットからハンカチを取り出し、口に当ててじっとしている。
He takes a handkerchief out of his pocket, holds it to his mouth, and stays still.
手をあげて、何でもない、心配することはないと相手にシグナルを送る。
He raises his hand and signals to the other person that it's nothing to worry about.
三十秒はどで終わることもあれば、一分以上続くこともある。
It can end in about thirty seconds, or sometimes last more than a minute.

During that time, the same images are automatically repeated, like a video tape on loop.

The mother removes the shoulder straps of her slip, and some man sucks her hard nipples.

She closes her eyes and lets out a big sigh.

A faint, nostalgic smell of breast milk lingers in the air.
赤ん坊にとって嗅覚はもっとも先鋭な器官だ。
For a baby, the sense of smell is the most acute sense.
嗅覚が多くを教えてくれる。
The sense of smell teaches a lot.

Sometimes, it tells everything.
音は聞こえない。
No sound can be heard.
空気はどろりとしてた。液状になっている。
The air is thick and viscous, almost like a liquid.
聴き取れるのは、自らのソフトな心音だけだ。
The only thing that can be heard is the soft sound of one's own heartbeat.
