This episode is dedicated to the extraordinary Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her remarkable contributions to health, safety, humanity and the human spirit. Bonnie Lautenberg is an artist, photographer and writer. Her works have been featured in gallery shows, museums and art fairs throughout the country. In 2022, Lautenberg was appointed by the White House to the President's Advisory Committee on the Arts. Lautenberg is the type of artist who seamlessly communicates her seasoned life experiences through the lens of her camera and her digital canvas. Giffords Senior Advisor Debbie Mucarsel-Powell was the first South American-born immigrant ever elected to Congress. Debbie immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 with her mother and three sisters. When she was 24, Debbie's father was murdered, which led her to dedicate her life to advocating for commonsense gun reform. Debbie was elected to Florida's 26th Congressional District in 2018. In Congress, she focused on foreign affairs, education, healthcare policy, environmental sustainability, and gun violence prevention. She sat on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism & Homeland Security and served as Vice-Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, where she led efforts to pass the first gun safety legislation in 25 years. Debbie came to Congress with more than 20 years of experience at the FIU College of Medicine, FIU College of Health & Urban Affairs, FIU College of Social Work, Justice and Public Affairs, and Miami-Dade College, as well as experience at nonprofits providing social services, education, and environmental sustainability. Fluent in Spanish, Debbie is also available for Spanish-language media. Jerry Mitchell received the Tony Award for Best Choreography twice -for the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, "Kinky Boots," for which he was also nominated as Director and previously for the 1st Tony Award winning revival of "La Cage aux Folles." Jerry was most recently represented on Broadway as Director/Choreographer of "Pretty Woman," now touring the U.S. and playing on the West End. He directed the Gloria Estefan Broadway musical, "On Your Feet!" and its international tour, recently presented in London's Coliseum Theatre and was nominated for an Olivier Award for his choreography in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," which he also directed and co-produced in London. In the 35 preceding years, Jerry has been involved with more than 50 Broadway, West End and touring productions, starting as a dancer for Agnes de Mille in "Brigadoon" and thereafter assisting Michael Bennett and Jerome Robbins. His Broadway debut as Choreographer, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," was followed by "The Full Monty" (Tony nomination); "The Rocky Horror Show," "Hairspray" (Tony nomination and the NBC live television broadcast as well), "Gypsy," "Never Gonna Dance" (Tony nomination), "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (Tony nomination), "La Cage aux Folles," (Tony Award), "Imaginary Friends," "Legally Blonde" (Tony nomination), which he also directed on Broadway and in London, "Catch Me If You Can," and "Kinky Boots." Known for his over-the-top behavior in and out of the ring, Adrien Broner has held multiple world championships in four weight classes, including the WBO super featherweight title from 2011 to 2012, the WBC lightweight title from 2012 to 2013, the WBA welterweight title in 2013, and the WBA light welterweight title from 2015 to 2016. In July 2018, Broner was ranked as the world's fourth-best light welterweight by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and the eighth-best active welterweight by BoxRec. In December 2012, The Ring magazine ranked him as the world's fifth-best active boxer, pound for pound. Blessed with both power and speed, "The Problem" has since conquered a fourth weight class at 140 pounds and now looks to regain his spot at the top of the division. New York Times Best Selling author of "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated," Alison Arngrim is best known to viewers world-wide for her portrayal of the incredibly nasty "Nellie Oleson" on the much loved, long running hit television series "Little House on the Prairie," and continues to amuse audiences through her many film, television and stage appearances. A house-filling favorite in Las Vegas since she opened as one of the hottest tickets in town in June 2000, Rita Rudner is known for her epigrammatic one-liners. Over the course of a multi-year run she sold almost two million tickets, grossed over a hundred million dollars and become the longest-running solo female comedy show in the history of Las Vegas. She was named Las Vegas's Comedian of The Year nine years in a row and in 2006 received The Nevada Ballet's Woman Of The Year Award. In October 2017 she was given the Casino Entertainment Legend Award. Rita's first solo HBO special, "Rita Rudner's One Night Stand", was nominated for several awards, as was her eponymous English BBC television show that later appeared in the USA on A&E. Rudner's two one-hour specials for HBO, "Born to Be Mild" and "Married Without Children," were ratings standouts and she performed all over the country, filling Carnegie Hall in New York three times. In 2008 Rita Rudner: Live From Las Vegas was PBS's first ever stand-up comedy special. In the early '80s, Rudner took a full-time leap from chorus lines to punch lines and was soon a regular guest on both Late Night with David Letterman and The Tonight Show. In June 2016 Rita was invited and honored to speak about her career and technique in comedy at Cambridge University, England. Stefanie Powers began her career at age 15, dancing for famed Broadway choreographer, Jerome Robbins. She was put under contract to Columbia Pictures in the final years of the Hollywood Star system. While under contract, she appeared in 15 of the 24 motion pictures she has made, co-starring with screen legends such as John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, David Niven, Roger Moore, Bing Crosby, Lee Remick, James Caan and Sammy Davis, Jr. Her first television series, "The Girl from U.N.C.L.E," marked a milestone in U.S. television's history as the first hour long series featuring a female in the leading role. Her television career includes seven mini-series, over 55 television shows, 36 movies for television and the long running "Hart to Hart" starring opposite Robert Wagner. She became a member of the Screen Writers' Guild of America in the 1980s and has produced several of the screenplays she has written. Among other musical performances, she appeared in the UK in the West End production of "The King and I," which also toured the United States for ten months. While appearing in a production of "Love Letters" in the Middle East, she received a request form dear friend Valerie Harper asking her to take over the role of Tallulah Bankhead in the play "Looped." "Looped is about the encounter between the infamous actress Tallulah Bankhead re-recording a line of dialogue for the 1965 film "Die! Die! My Darling!," the last film Ms. Bankhead would ever make. Ironically, Stefanie co-starred in the film "Die! Die! My Darling!" with Miss Bankhead. Highly decorated Air Force veteran Wayne O. Smith was born in 1943 in Richmond, Kentucky. He entered the U.S. Air Force Academy on June 26, 1961, and graduated with a commission as a 2d Lt. on June 9, 1965. Lt. Smith next attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Moody AFB, Georgia, where he was awarded his pilot wings in September 1966. He served with the 4th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB, Florida, from October 1966 to July 1967, when he deployed with his unit to Southeast Asia. He then flew with the 435th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Ubon Royal Thai AFB, Thailand, and was forced to eject over North Vietnam while flying his 90th combat mission on January 18, 1968. On his last mission, Lt. Smith was credited with shooting down a MIG-17 in aerial combat before his aircraft was shot down. He was immediately captured and taken as a Prisoner of War and spent the next 1,882 days in captivity before being released during Operation Homecoming on March 14, 1973. After recovering from his injuries at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, Capt. Smith left active duty on September 4, 1973, served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for a year, and then left the reserves in 1976. In 1999 Wayne Smith retired from MidAmerica Energy as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Generation. Earlier, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of BF Goodrich Chemicals and prior to that he was Chief Executive of BOC Gases for the U.S., Canada, and South America. He began his business career with Air Products and Chemicals, where he was appointed to a number of executive assignments over a 16-year period. He was a pilot flying Boeing 727s for Eastern Airlines for a short time before becoming a corporate executive. Wayne is married to Lois A. Bolin, Ph.D., of Naples, Florida. He has two children and two grandchildren, who also reside in Naples. On the cusp of her big break as Paula Pokrifki—the Debra Winger role—in the National Tour of "An Officer and a Gentleman, The Musical," 24-year-old New York theater actress Mia Massaro received a devastating diagnosis. But the show must go on—and it did. Mia Massaro is a New York City based actor but grew up in Vineland, New Jersey (basically the South) with her parents Andrea and Dominic Massaro and two older brothers, Andrew and Patrick. She studied musical theatre performance at Marymount Manhattan College and graduated in 2019. Since then she's been killing the survival job game while also getting her first two equity jobs in March of 2020, and we all know what happened there. "Amazing Race" Season 33 contestant Ryan Ferguson spent nearly 10 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of a 2001 murder in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri. Ryan was a 17-year-old high-school student at the time of the murder he was wrongfully accused of murder and was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment. On November 1, 2001, Kent Heitholt, sports editor for the Columbia (Missouri) Daily Tribune was murdered in the newspaper's parking lot around 2:10 am. Two years later, a young man named Charles Erickson began publicly sharing recurring dreams that he and his former classmate Ryan Ferguson were involved. What followed was viewed by many as a series of finger-pointing, confusing confessions, questionable police work, awkward eye witnesses and a prosecution team hell-bent on solving the case. The result: Ryan Ferguson was sentenced to 40 years in prison based almost exclusively on "eye witness" accounts from teenage dreamer Erickson and Tribune janitor Jerry Trump who, at trial, miraculously gained the ability to positively identify Erickson and Ferguson. Both witnesses later recanted their testimony, claiming that police and prosecuting attorney Kevin Crane, now a circuit court judge, had coerced them to lie. The 2005 conviction was vacated on November 5, 2013, by the Western District of the Missouri Court of Appeals, and Ferguson was released on the evening of November 12 after spending nearly a decade in prison. He won $11 million in a civil suit against Missouri police. A documentary entitled "dream/killer" chronicles the story of how Ryan's father, Bill Ferguson, embarked on a 10-year campaign to prove Ryan's innocence. A house-filling favorite in Las Vegas since she opened as one of the hottest tickets in town in June 2000, Rita Rudner is known for her epigrammatic one-liners. Over the course of a multi-year run she sold almost two million tickets, grossed over a hundred million dollars and become the longest-running solo female comedy show in the history of Las Vegas. She was named Las Vegas's Comedian of The Year nine years in a row and in 2006 received The Nevada Ballet's Woman Of The Year Award. In October 2017 she was given the Casino Entertainment Legend Award. Rita's first solo HBO special, "Rita Rudner's One Night Stand", was nominated for several awards, as was her eponymous English BBC television show that later appeared in the USA on A&E. In 2017 she was invited by Oprah Winfrey to appear on a cruise to Alaska that Oprah did in partnership with Holland America. In 2018, Rita's tenth TV special was released – A Tale Of Two Dresses. The special also featured Rita and Martin's singer/songwriter daughter Molly Bergman. In September 2018, Rita appeared at the Laguna Playhouse in the new musical comedy "Two's A Crowd."The show was staged off-Broadway in New York in 2019, and plans were in the works to transfer it to a larger New York theater in 2020 when the Covid pandemic forced those plans to be abandoned. Cindy Williams is most recognized for her role as Shirley Feeney in the TV comedy series LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY. Born in Van Nuys, California, Cindy first became interested in acting during high school. After graduation she attended L. A. City College where she majored in Theatre Arts. After leaving college, she landed her first television roles on ROOM 222, NANNY AND THE PROFESSOR and LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE. Some guest-starring roles include LAW AND ORDER: SVU, 7th HEAVEN and 8 SIMPLE RULES. Other television credits include starring in an episode of THE ODD COUPLE for CBS, A DREAM OF CHRISTMAS for Hallmark Channel and SAM AND CAT for Nickelodeon. Cindy's stage credits include, among other productions, the national tour of GREASE playing Miss Lynch, the national tour of DEATHTRAP with Elliot Gould, THE FEMALE ODD COUPLE with Joanne Worley, STEEL MAGNOLIAS as Ouiser Boudreaux and, in 2007, she made her Broadway debut in the role of Mrs. Tottendale in the award-winning musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. She also appeared as Rev. Mother Mary Regina in NUNSENSE and NUNSET BOULEVARD; THE NUNSENSE HOLLYWOOD BOWL SHOW. Cindy appeared in MENOPAUSE: THE MUSICAL in Las Vegas for three years, then reprising her role at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. She appeared in TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT with Maggie Smith, directed by George Cukor, and THE CONVERSATION with Gene Hackman, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Next she co-starred with Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss and Harrison Ford in AMERICAN GRAFFITI directed by George Lucas, a low-budget film that went on to become a box office smash and film classic. Among her favorite honors are her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, her TV Land award for Fan Favorite as well as winning Best Actress at the L. A. Comedy Film Festival for the Indy film STEALING ROSES. Cindy also garnered a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nomination for best supporting actress in AMERICAN GRAFFITI. Unfortunately, she was beat out by Ingrid Bergman. Cindy still wonders how the heck that happened. Her book "Shirley, I Jest!: A Storied Life" was released to much critical acclaim and is now available in paperback. Cindy shares her memories and hilarious backstage tales in her one-woman show, ME, MYSELF & SHRILEY, covering a lifetime in entertainment. The show is 90 minutes without an intermission and is followed by a Question & Answer session between Cindy and members of the audience.
