Because we absolutely loved talking about the movie Cat People a few weeks ago, we're reviewing the sequel this week! The Curse of the Cat People was released in 1944. It's about the daughter of two characters from the first film. This daughter has an imaginary friend who just so happens to be the cat person from that original movie! Except this movie doesn't actually have anything to do with Cat People. We're back out on the seas for this week's movie! Based on the novel by Rudyard Kipling, it's a coming-of-age tale from 1937 called Captains Courageous. Directed by Victor Fleming, it's about a young rich kid who finds himself on a fishing ship and eventually builds a friendship with Spencer Tracy (who puts on a bad Portuguese accent but still won an award for this). Sometimes when we have a bunch of movie options to pick from, we make mistakes. It's no one's fault, it can just happen. A film can have a good premise with a good cast and good ratings across the board, but still end up being absolutely awful. And that's what has happened this week with Hardball. It's a baseball movie about Keanu Reeves coaching a Little League team in the Chicago projects, except it isn't really about baseball at all.
