1999 is considered by many to be one of the greatest years of movies ever. So many modern classics came out in that year. We didn't want to review any of those, so, instead, we picked the Will Smith flop 'Wild Wild West'! You might know it only by the song that Will Smith raps in the credits, but it's a Western sci-fi comedy that co-stars Kevin Kline, Salma Hayek and Kenneth Branagh. It's also directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who did Men In Black, and is (partially) written by the two guys who wrote Tremors! So surely it can't be that bad... Right? 1998 was a wild year. The mp3 player had just come out, Britney Spears was the biggest name in the media, and two sets of very similar movies were released... Two movies about space-debris-related disasters, and two movies about ants saving their colonies. Over the next two episodes, we will be getting to the bottom of this phenomenon, and see if this is a case of multiple studios having the same idea at the same time, or if something more nefarious is going on. Videogame movies are known to be a bit rough. Some might even say that almost all of them are terrible. While that may not be true for today's videogame adaptations, it certainly was when Hollywood started to make them. And that's what we're checking out this week, the first-ever videogame movie: 1993's Super Mario Bros. Considered to be one of the worst films from the 90s, it stars Bob Hoskins as Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi, Dennis Hopper as Bowser (kind of, not really), and may be one of the worst adaptations we've ever reviewed. We're riding the waves of adrenaline this week as we watch a Kathryn Bigelow action movie called 'Point Break'. It's an early role for Keanu Reeves and sees him play an FBI agent who, with his partner Gary Busey, has to find a group of surfers who have been robbing banks. He becomes friends with Patrick Swayze, hangs out with Lori Petty, and constantly breaks his knee. Like, this guy shouldn't be able to walk with the amount of times he's breaking that knee. We're back with our second James Bond film of the year! Except this one is a little different. We're reviewing Casino Royale from 1967, which is an absolute mess. This might be one of the messiest productions we've ever covered. In it, David Niven plays James Bond, who takes over MI6 and recruits Peter Sellers to be James Bond, Ursula Andress to be James Bond, and a bunch of other people to also be James Bond, all so they can stop Orson Welles and an evil organisation called SMERSH.
