Enough Miles on an EBike to Have Ridden Around the World
As we begin to wrap up SEASON 2 of the Pedego Podcast, we'll revisit some of our favorite episodes including this one with eBike enthusiast Richard Davis, who after two years of daily riding on his Pedego, realized he'd ridden enough miles to have traveled half way around the world. So being the good engineer, Richard began tracking his daily mileage and extrapolating where that would put him each day if he were actually riding around the world (instead of around his own city in Florida). Turning his daily exercise into an exercise of imagination (and drive) that made him even more determined to reach an amazing 25,000 mile odometer reading (the basic circumference of the Earth).Hear again Richard's amazing ride "around the world" (at least in his imaginative mind) and how he rode over 25,000 miles on his equally amazing Pedego Electric Bike. Adding another 1,000 miles shows since this show originally aired earlier this fall. As we continue to chronicle the electrifying "EBike Revolution" and those leading the charge here on the Pedego Podcast.Brought to you by Pedego Electric Bikes.

#254 Mark Holbrook: The Declining Church—What Next?
Show Notes On our show today my special guest, Mark Holbrook, and I will discuss the issues around the recent (and troubling) decline in church attendance in the United States over the past 20 years. For instance, in the year 2000 70% of Americans claimed to attend some kind of church, and just 20 years later, in 2020, that number has dropped from 70% to 47%--a 23% decline in just 20 years! That is a very significant decrease. Now… I have a few ideas on the subject, and I can’t wait to discuss them with Mark Holbrook, who is an enormously informed “lay scholar” of the biblical text and an elder at Grace Church of Orange CA. I want to speak with Mark because he is an evangelical conservative with a deep love of people and an even deeper love of the work of God in the church. So… what accounts for this decline in church attendance? Has the church failed its people? Has the very liberal American lifestyle played a role? Or does it have something to do with the influence of media and politics—neither of which is very “pro-church” today. I think it is mostly likely the influence of all three in addition to many other factors that account for a withdrawal from “organized religion.” And there’s another topic for today: are people leaving God or organized religion? City Life and Ebikes Can Change Your Life
To hear retirees Margaret and Kevin Shea tell the story, two things have totally transformed their lives: City Life and EBikes. The first change happened when this former software engineer and his wife decided to follow their two adult sons into the actual City of Atlanta (from the suburbs where they'd spent 30 years of their lives). Discovering an exciting new world of close knit neighborhoods and neighborhood shops (like the new Ebike store that opened just down the block). Determined to "try it all", they took one for a spin. And that's when things really took off. "Fun was our only reason for buying one," admits Kevin, "but it soon turned out to be the best investment we ever made." "It added some spice to our lives (and our 40 year marriage)," smiles Margaret. "Taking us places we never knew existed". Like the 22 mile Beltline around Atlanta which they discovered right at their doorstep. A multi-use trail on a former railway corridor which goes around the core of Atlanta, this Beltline project was designed to reconnect neighborhoods and communities with restaurants, coffee shops, and places of interest (like the nearby Atlanta Zoo and parks). All at a slower "people pace". A perfect pathway for their new eBikes that took them in so many new directions, connecting them with their community (and kids) more. And bringing them better health and sleep as well as they rode more frequently(and further) on their new electric bikes. Several recurring themes we hear often on this show. For as Margaret herself if prone to proclaim to anyone and everyone she meets, "to say that owning a Pedego is life changing is not an understatement. We lost weight, improved our sleep (and our marriage). Made new friends and found a new direction in life. Who would have thought that two simple electric bikes could add so much to our lives?" Margaret is a coach for Optavia and is happy to help anyone who is looking to begin their health journey. To learn more about Optavia, please contact Margaret at [email protected] or call her at 770-630-8435. Just two aging, ever evolving baby boomers, experiencing the ride of their life. #253 Charlie: Lessons from the Tomb
Show Notes Our show today is about endings and beginnings AND the of the unspoken time in between the two. Life is one long journey of beginnings and endings. Projects, careers, marriages, and life itself all have an end. Beginnings are typically both challenging and inspiring. My personality type is driven to begin new ventures, loves change, and new opportunities. But I must always keep in mind that with beginnings must also come endings. But, with an end is also a new beginning… even with death. Unfortunately, we all too frequently harbor some kind of negative emotion around things coming to an end, especially an abrupt or unwanted end. However, that certainly doesn’t have to be the case. T.S. Elliot writes in his poem East Coker from Four Quartets, “To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” In this show I’d like to share a new insight that occurred to me more than one year ago. That insight has to do with the crucial time between ending one station in life and wisely proceeding to the next. It was from this experience that I learned the “value of the tomb,” the resting place between a figurative death and resurrection. Today’s show will be just Producer Paul and me talking about, “Lessons from the Tomb.” Important Links For more on Charlie go to www.thenextchapter.life For more on Wells of Life visit www.wellsoflife.org
