82. FORD Method
The FORD model, in my opinion, is a very underutilized tool. FORD = Family, Occupation, Recreation, Dream This insightful framework serves as a guide to engaging with people at a deeper level, opening doors to build authentic and lasting relationships. 80. Misogi
In this podcast episode, we explore the Japanese term 'misogi' and its profound implications. Misogi is a practice that offers a pathway to cleanse oneself of impurities, both physically and spiritually. It embodies a tradition of self-discipline and purification that has been embraced throughout history, facilitating personal development and growth. Jesse Itzler recently shared his take on misogi and he advocates for the concept of accomplishing 'one big thing' each year as a means to achieve misogi. I personally share my own journey in practicing misogi by undertaking a significant endeavor this year. Join us as we delve into the power of misogi and its transformative potential. Today's challenge: What is the 'one big thing' you are doing this year? If you don't have one, what could your 'one big thing' be that would define your next 12 months? 79. 40% Rule
In this episode, we delve deeper into the topic of mindset and explore the concept of unlocking your untapped potential using the 40% rule. The 40% rule challenges the belief that we have reached our limits when we feel overwhelmed or exhausted. It suggests that we are actually operating at just 40% of our true potential during those moments. By embracing this rule, you can cultivate resilience and mental toughness, empowering yourself to push beyond perceived limitations. It provides a valuable framework for breaking through barriers and achieving personal growth. Today's challenge: Where can you leverage the 40% rule today? 78. Leveraging Loss Aversion
In today's episode, I reference a great book, Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. This book shares negotiating strategies and techniques based on Voss' time in the FBI. 75. Knowledge Isn't Power
In this episode, we are discussing why knowledge is, in fact, not power and why the commonly known phrase 'knowledge is power' was taken out of context from the beginning. I share a personal epiphany that I recently had around all of the books I have read in the last few years and the realization of the disparity between gaining knowledge from those books and taking meaningful action. 74. Limitless Mindset
In this episode, I am digging into mindset, specifically how to adopt and maintain a limitless mindset. I share a story that made history back in the 1950s. Sir Roger Bannister was the first athlete to run the first sub-4-minute mile, which up until then had been deemed 'impossible' to achieve. What has happened since then is impressive. We discuss a limiting mindset vs a limitless mindset and the impact your mindset will have on those around you. Today's challenge: Where is your mindset too fixed? Where do you have limiting beliefs? In our daily lives, we often overlook the ripple effects of our choices. In this episode, I dive into second-order consequences and why we should reflect on our decision-making patterns. 72. Increase Your Options, Increase Your Success
In this episode, I am sharing a lesson that I have learned from past experiences, in both life and business. Making great decisions is a function of the number of options you have available to you. Having many different options to choose from will allow you to make a better decision and choose the best possible option. On the contrary, when you have limited options to choose from, you may become restricted in your ability to make informed decisions. Today's challenge: What decision do you have to make today when you don't have enough options available to you? 71. What's In It For Me?
What's in it for me? This acronym, WIIFM, serves as a strategic approach to evaluate the significance of something and identify the advantages or benefits it offers to individuals. I share a couple of examples of how to use WIIFM in business and life: In business when you understand the WIIFM as it pertains to your clients or customers, you can have much more significant influence over their purchasing decisions. By understanding what they stand to gain, you can tailor your approach and effectively persuade them. This strategy can also be used for developing relationships - personal or professional. By grasping what others can gain from knowing you or collaborating with you, you can articulate those specific benefits to help them recognize the advantages of having a relationship with you. Today's challenge: As you go about life today, as you are speaking to other individuals, take a moment to ask yourself 'What's in it for them?' and get very clear around. 69. When in Doubt, Disclose - George & the Cherry Tree
In celebration of the 4th of July, I am revisiting a story about George Washington - George and the Cherry Tree. In this story, George receives a gift from his father, makes a questionable choice, and is later tested with telling the truth. At this moment, although George may have initially upset his father with the choice he made, his father was proud that his son told the truth. In the spirit of being honest, I share a phrase that I ask myself on a regular basis to remind myself to display truth and honesty in any situation. In this episode, I share a story about Winston Churchill and a difficult decision he had to make during WWII back in 1940. While this was a strategic decision and it needed to be done, it didn't make the decision less difficult especially knowing this decision would greatly impact many people as well as relationships with other countries and governments. 65. Wealth Building Basics - The 4% Rule and Index Funds
In this episode, I double down on creating passive income opportunities to build long-term wealth.* Specifically, I take us through the 4% rule. Why is this rule important? This rule provides a good baseline for withdrawing for retirement. You can use this rule to work backwards and determine how much money you need to save in your working life, to account for the amount you want to live on in your retirement I also share insight into index funds and why I believe that index funds are a great, and fairly simple way, to build passive income. Today's focusing question: How could this rule impact your investment or retirement planning? How can you learn more about the 4% rule? 64. Stop Caring What Others Think
In this episode, I am discussing a topic that many of us can probably relate to, and might even be working on ourselves. However, rather than working on ourselves, I am focusing on how this topic pertains to our children. The topic: How to Stop Caring What Others Think My wife and I have two young daughters and as they are getting older, making more friends, and having more access to social media we have recognized that our girls can tend to get caught up in what others think of them. We have been working on how to coach and influence our girls on how to care less about what others think of them. Some of the areas we are working on include: Developing a healthy sense of self-esteem and confidence Recognizing their efforts and activities Modeling the behavior we expect of our kids Encouraging a diverse social circle Reminding our kids to focus on what they can control Today's focusing question: What can you do for your kids to help them care less about what other people think? 63. Day 1 Mentality
In this episode, I am talking about the concept of 'Day 1 Mentality'. One of my business partners, Chris Suarez, recently shared this concept with our team and it was an excellent reminder for me. The Day 1 Mentality refers to the drive, inspiration, or enthusiasm you experience the first time you do something. Think back about your first day of school, or the first day you opened the doors of your business. You likely experienced an overwhelming sense of Day 1 Mentality on these days. The importance of adopting and maintaining a Day 1 Mentality is vital in achieving success in anything you set out to do. On the contrary, Day 2 Mentality results in complacency. Today's focusing question: Where is your business or career at right now? Do you still have a Day 1 Mentality? If you are operating with a Day 2 Mentality, how can you reinstate a Day 1 Mentality? Who would you have to bring in or enroll to help with this? What projects might you need to take on? My good friend and business partner, Ben Kinney, recently shared a lesson about society's addiction to chaos, and the difference between positive and negative addictions. I am resharing Ben's lesson in this episode and how to overcome any addiction to chaos. Today's focusing questions: Are there places in your life right now where you are mistaking passion for chaos? Wealth is doing what you want, with who you want, when you want, wherever you want. In today's episode, I share how to begin building passive income in your life. Whether you are a business owner or an employee, you can build passive income and generate wealth for yourself and generations to come. The first step to building your wealth, and perhaps the most important step, is to create awareness around your current financial state and what passive income you have right now. From I am going to help you build a plan to start diligently building your wealth through different passive income opportunities. Today's focusing questions: Where are you with respect to your passive income? Where do you want to be? How much passive income do you want to have coming in? 59. Managing Predictable Surprises
How do you respond to a situation that you didn't plan for? In today's episode, I am sharing some ways to manage predictable surprises and how to navigate crisis management. Predictable surprises, present in both life and business, are existing problems that might be apparent to some, but not always recognized by the most important players. These surprises are also likely to explode into crisis if not rectified in a timely manner. Today's focusing questions: Are there things going on in your business world that are risky? Is there something that could happen in your business right now, that you could look back on one day and say 'Yes, I saw that coming'? What could you do today to avoid it from happening? 57. Bring in the Ship
In this episode, I share a story from a football camp I attended in high school and how the lesson I learned from the coach still resonates today. What I learned at that camp taught me a lot about overcoming adversity. To come full circle, I recently picked up Ryan Holiday's book: The Obstacle is the Way and 30+ years later this topic is still relevant. One of my favorite lessons from Holiday's book is: obstacles and adversity shouldn't be seen as negativity but as areas of growth. The way we respond to these obstacles will determine our success and happiness in life, and when embraced, obstacles can actually serve as an advantage. Today I'd like to challenge you to ask yourself: What is going on in your world right now where you are focused on the obstacles? 56. Perception and Perspective
In today's episode, I break down perception vs perspective, and why what we believe to be true and what actually may be true are not one and the same. In our chaotic world, and with access to and misinformation shared on the internet it is easy to blend our perception and perspective. Today I'd like to challenge you to ask yourself: Where do you need to step back and challenge your own beliefs? Where is your perspective or point of view misshaped or misguided? Are any of your perceptions flawed? If you were to work in some thinking time to think about this, what would that look like? 47. Contingency Planning
We all make plans in business and life, we plan experiences and vacations, we map it all out, and we have a pretty good idea of all that is going to happen. However, we rarely actually come up with a Plan B, or draft a contingency plan. In this episode: I break down how to pre-plan for contingencies, in case your Plan A does not go... well, to plan I take us through an exercise we previously discussed in Episode 6, The G.R.O.W. Ep 46The Comfort Crisis
In this episode, I share some of my takeaways from a book I recently read, 'The Comfort Crisis'. The author, Michael Easter, talks about how we have all become incredibly comfortable; everything we do in our world is easily accessible and we don't have to work very hard to survive - unlike our ancestors. We don't experience a great deal of uncomfort; we have become too comfortable. This comfort that we are so used to hinders us from working hard or pushing through different challenges that life presents. We are accustomed to turning to our trusted technology devices to solve problems or save us from boredom. We just don't spend enough time or energy surviving. How do we introduce more uncomfortable things in our world? What can we do to get out of our comfort zone a bit more? Today's challenge: What can you introduce in your world today to make you a little uncomfortable or requires you to exert more energy? -- Subscribe to our daily texts! Most business leaders and those who have their pulse on the markets right now can agree that there are some significant economic changes going on in the world. Simply put, the economy looks different today than it has over the last few years. As an investor myself - in both real estate, the stock market, and other wealth creation strategies - there are a few things I am doing to prepare myself, my business, and my assets to adapt to and take advantage of the shifting economy. In this episode, I share the steps you can (and should) take in today's economic climate to become more resilient in investing. -- Subscribe to our daily texts! Ep 44The Trust Triangle
In this episode, I share the foundation and various elements of building trust with others. In an article I read some time ago, I learned the three fundamentals of trust: logic, empathy, and authenticity. Understanding these three fundamentals and how you operate in these areas will determine how you operate in your role, whether in life or business. On the contrary, if you lack in any of these areas, it is said that you 'wobble' which can cause a disconnect in building trust with others. Lastly, I break down why you may be stronger in certain areas in your professional world but lacking in your personal world, or vice versa, and ways to improve in those areas. Today's challenge: Where are you currently lacking in your trust triangle? What can you do differently in that area(s) to deepen trust? -- Subscribe to our daily texts!
