Saying Goodbye to Matthews Arena

Northeastern University’s Matthews Arena, formerly known as Boston Arena, closed its doors after 115 years. The historic athletic hall was once home to the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics before the construction of the old Boston Garden. Many iconic public figures, not just professional athletes, have graced the hall once upon a time; the likes of Teddy Roosevelt & JFK are just a few. The Northeastern-owned facility will be deconstructed for a new state-of-the-art facility, which is set to be ready in 2028. The Defense Rests

In an unexpected twist, Brian Walshe’s defense team rested its case Thursday morning without ever calling a witness to the stand. During opening statements, defense attorney Larry Tipton told the jury that during the trial you will hear evidence of how an unexplained sudden death does and can happen; the cause of death which Walshe’s defense team are arguing happened to Ana Walshe. According to a new Suffolk University/Boston Globe poll, one-third of 500 voters surveyed said they considered leaving Massachusetts in the last year. Residents cited inflation, cost of living, health care costs, housing affordability, and taxes as their highest concerns. Boston’s Property Tax Debate

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and State Senator Nick Collins continue to butt heads over Wu’s tax shift plan, which would shift the property tax burden from homeowners to commercial property owners. The Archdiocese of Boston Speaks Out

The Archdiocese of Boston responds to Saint Susanna's Parish in Dedham and their nativity scene that is displaying an "ICE was here" sign, condemning the display. The archdiocese says St. Susanna's "neither requested nor received permission from the archdiocese to depart from this canonical norm or to place a politically divisive display outside the church. The Cape Cod Bridge Projects

For years, officials in Massachusetts have been working to secure federal funding to help replace the Cape Cod bridges. As part of the Sagamore Bridge replacement project, roughly a dozen homes would be taken by eminent domain. While local officials assure the public that the projects are moving forward, there is uncertainty about the funding for both bridge projects with the US Army Corps of Engineers recently pausing more than $11 billion in funding projects, which includes the Cape Cod bridge projects.
