Words of Our Worship – Anchor to the Holy

Anchor to the Holy This week we explore the song “When You Walk Into the Room” so that we can anchor to the holy nature of God. What happens when we anchor to the holy? The nature of our life is actually transformed as we surrender to a new way of life. What does this transformation look like? Journey with us as we discover the look of this transformed life, and get a deeper understanding behind the theology in the songs we sing. Leviticus 19:1-2, 1 Peter 1:16, Romans 12:1-2, John 15:19, Hebrews 10:5-10, Hebrews 6:19-20 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Pastor Aaron shared how, in the Christian life, God is more concerned with your personal transformation than he is with situational transformation. What does this statement mean to you? How have you seen it in your own life? 2. Think about your significant relationships. What are the results of approaching them casually versus covenantally? How does a casual approach affect the depth and longevity of relationships compared to a covenantal one? Now consider your relationship with Jesus. What are the results of approaching it casually versus covenantally? 3. When we anchor to the broken nature of the world, the nature of our life is conformed. When we anchor to the holy nature of God, the nature of our life is transformed. Where is a place in your life where you continue to see ruin through conformity that God is calling you to be rooted in holiness so that you might be transformed? 4. Have your group listen to the song “When You Walk into the Room” (Bryan and Katie Torwalt) and discuss the truths you heard in the song. If your groups would be comfortable with signing together, you may want to consider a time of worship to this song too. 5. In your own group’s way, take time at the end of your group to simply pray for one another’s relationships with Jesus. Pray for strength, holiness, and a life transformed. Words of Our Worship – Anchor to Victory

Anchor to Victory with Dallas Amsden We are continuing in our series, “Words of Our Worship,” and this week, we explore the song Battle Belongs so that we can Anchor to Victory. We dive into the story of Jehosophat and how the Lord brought the people through a great victory –– not with traditional weapons of warfare or swords and shields –– but with the weapon of worship. Journey with us as we learn the keys to victory against internal and external battles we face, and get a deeper understanding behind the theology in the songs we sing. 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Not everyone considers themselves a “singer” and yet worship is an emotional expression of praise to God and is crucial to the Christian walk. What are some other ways that you can “worship” even if you don’t think you have the greatest voice? 2. Dallas talked about “resolving to respond” with worship rather than “react” with our flesh. What are some areas of your life where you can be emotionally triggered and where you can commit to “resolving to respond.” 3. In 2 Chronicles, the people were told several times, “Do not be afraid or discouraged.” Dallas asked everyone to consider, “Where do you stand –– in fear and discouragement OR in faith and encouragement?” When battles arise in our lives, what are some ways that we can shift our perspective and our thinking to stand more firmly IN-courage (encourage) and in faith? Discuss practical ways to build personal faith. 4. Have your group listen to the song “Battle Belongs” (Phil Wickham) and discuss the truths you heard in the song. If your groups would be comfortable with signing together, you may want to consider a time of worship to this song too? Check out our other audio series and video playlists that can help you take your next step in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Words of Our Worship – Anchor to Community

Anchor to Community Do you listen to Christian music? Do you pay attention to the worship songs that you sing? Do you know what those songs even mean or why they were written? In this series we explore the theology behind the “Words of Our Worship” and see the deeper meaning behind what we say/sing. This week’s conversation will help you dive deeper in your worship and establish patterns anchored to community. Hebrews 13:7-9 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. When you hear the word worship, what do you think about? How would you define it? 2. Pastor David said that worship creates a spiritual connection and it can enhance the spiritual experiences and create moments of profound connection. Have you personally experienced this? Where and When? Is there a “go-to-song” that you have that creates this spiritual connection? 3. I would encourage your group to listen to the song “Same God” (feat. Jonsal Barrientes & Brandon Lake) as found on YouTube and discuss the truths you heard in the song. If your groups would be comfortable with signing together, you may want to consider a time of worship to this song too? 4. How important is it to not only anchor yourself to God (Psalm 18:2), but also anchor yourself to the community that God has been building for generations (Hebrews 13:7-9)? “Same God” Song Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JblG0WgX3dY&list=PLuskMj9MiWty3aWp5Hr2ot2W_YbvqDyPt Check out our other audio series and video playlists that can help you take your next step in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Freedom Through Christ – Easter

Easter Have you ever struggled with feeling love, security, affirmation, acceptance, value, and/or purpose? Do you think you are alone with these feelings? This Easter Sunday Pastor David explores how all of us deal with and suffer from an orphan spirit. We will see the results of this mindset in Adam and Eves lives, but then see how Jesus flips the script on this belief system in his life. Join the conversation as we discover how to be true sons and daughters of God. John 14:15-18, Romans 8:14-16 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Read John 14:15-18 and Romans 8:14-16 and discuss what stands out to you most. 2. Pastor David said that an orphan's heart struggles with feelings like love, security, affirmation, acceptance, value, and/or purpose. Which ones of these resonate most with you? What biblical truth do you need to know related to them? 3. Adam and Eve fell for a lie that if you DO, then you will HAVE, then that will make you BE something. We then saw that Jesus went to his baptism, and instead of having to DO something he chose to BE something. When he was first able to BE the son of God, he would HAVE the power and spirit of God, and then he would have the desire to DO something for his Father. Where in your life do you think you have to DO instead of BE when it comes to your relationship with Jesus? Do you feel close? Do you feel loved? Do you feel frustrated? How can you stop DOING and start BEING? 4. After this Easter season, what is something you have heard Jesus saying to you? What do you need to do next? Freedom Through Christ – Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem on a donkey? Why did the people shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”? As we continue exploring the passion of Christ leading into this Easter season we look at these questions plus many more. Join us as we find new Freedom through Christ by looking at the words, actions and life of Jesus Christ. Mark 11:1-11 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Read Mark 11:1-11 and discuss. What part of the story stood out to you? Is there a part of the story that you are confused by or have questions about? 2. The Jews that watched Jesus ride in on the back of the donkey had to know about Jacob’s blessing found in Genesis 49, and Zechariah’s word in Zechariah 9:9-13. How much hope would they have experienced seeing this event take place? Yet it did not go as they were expecting. What do you do when your hope in God doesn’t go as you were expecting? 3. What are you doing to prepare spiritually for Good Friday, the annual Egg Hunt Outreach, and/or for Easter morning? What are you expecting or hoping that God does in your life over the next week? 4. Who do you know that you would love to see born again and connected to church? Would you commit to intentionally reaching out to them and inviting them to Easter morning? (P.S. same question as last week but this shows you the importance of the question.) Freedom Through Christ – Anointed at Bethany

Anointed at Bethany If you were Jesus, and you were weeks out from going to the cross, how would you be feeling? If you were Jesus, and you knew that your friend and disciple, Judas, was going to betray you, how would you process that? With all this going on around and in Jesus, what could ever have caused him to say of Mary as she poured out her expensive perfume, “she has done a beautiful thing to me”? This week we explore and discover the significance and relevance of Mary anointing Jesus before his death, burial and resurrection. Mark 14:1-11 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Read Mark 14:1-11 and discuss. What part of the story stood out to you? Is there a part of the story that you are confused by or have questions about? Act like you were sitting around the table when this happened and ask, “How would I have responded”? 2. Who are you in this story? The religious people who were looking for what you can get away with? Maybe Judas who sells out Jesus for personal gain? Maybe Mary, who gave all she had for the one when gave all he was? Maybe a little of all of them? 3. The Easter outreach is quickly approaching. Please take time to pray as a group for the event and for the people coming. 4. The Power of NO – The Freedom to say NO

The Freedom to say NO This week we look back over the series to discover the cycle of victory that can be found in the word NO. We also end our conversation with the freedom found in no. Here is a hint, this freedom isn’t just for you. Join us as we finish this powerful and life-changing series called “The Power of NO”. Daniel 3 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Last week we spent the majority of our time talking about compromise. This week we end with compromise again, but first we discussed the cycle of victory that you need to be aware of: 1. Grow in your dependance of God’s Word 2. Grow in your working knowledge of God’s Word 3. Grow in your meditation of God’s Word 4. Grow in your dependance of God’s Word 5. Grow in your recollection of God’s Word 6. Grow in your obedience of God’s Word Of these six areas, which one stood out to you as an area that you can and will focus on? 2. Look over and discuss, possibly read, Daniel 3. What can you learn from the lives of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? Pastor David highlighted this story when discussing the 6th step of growing in your obedience of God’s word. Is it possible to grow with God without facing challenges and persecution? 3. The Freedom of Saying NO was the sermon title for this final week. The point of the sermon wasn’t “YOU” finding freedom, but rather the people around you to find freedom because of you. Pastor said it this way, “According to Daniel 3 compromise kills our witness”. Where in your life is your witness being compromised? 4. Take time as a group to talk openly and honestly about the sermons and what you learned. Also, take time to pray and ask God who He has called you to be a witness to. The Power of NO – Saying No to Compromise

Saying No to Compromise Have you ever said the phrase, “I know the Bible says but…?”. Maybe it sounded more like this, “I know God is telling me to but…”. This week we are going to explore what is behind statements like these and how these statements oppose what God is doing. By looking at Numbers 22-25 we can not only learn lessons from Balaam, but also see the key that destroys our spiritual life – Compromise! Join us in this week's message and see where we have compromised our faith. Numbers 22-25 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Over the last few weeks Pastor David covered key points for our understanding the power and necessity of NO… Which one has helped you, spoke most to you, or is something you need to practice more? Decision Fatigue: The mental exhaustion that occurs after making numerous decisions, leading to poorer quality decisions or decision avoidance.Ego Depletion: The idea that our willpower and self-control are limited resources that can become depleted with use, affecting our ability to make choices and resist impulses.Cognitive Load Theory: The theory that our working memory has limited capacity, and when overloaded with too much information or tasks, our ability to process and retain information is impaired.Radical amputation: The term often used metaphorically in psychological or self-help contexts. It refers to the idea of completely cutting off or removing something from one's life that is causing harm or hindering progress. 2. Numbers 22:28-30 says, “Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.” The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?” “No,” he said. Take time to discuss this portion of scripture and explore this statement; “When you are driven by personal desires you miss the irrational situation you are in”. 3. Numbers 25:1-3 says, “While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them. When the enemy could not curse Israel (YOU), he defeated them by compromise. Where in your life are you compromising your faith? 4. Take time as a group to talk openly and honestly about the sermons and what you learned. Also, take time to pray together and allow God to minister as you bring continued resolve to your faith. Check out our other audio series and video playlists that can help you take your next step in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Power of NO – Saying No to Worry and Anxiety

Saying No to Worry and Anxiety Do you ever suffer from worry or anxiety? Have you ever heard it said that worry is focusing on a future you can't control, and anxiety is focusing on a past you can't change? This week we look at Matthew 6 to see what the words of Jesus are on this subject and then dive into some practical steps to empower you to use the word “NO”. Join us and allow God to free you from the past you can’t change and the future you won’t be able to control. Matthew 6:25-34 Discussion topics .ugb-28778b3 h1,.ugb-28778b3 h2,.ugb-28778b3 h3,.ugb-28778b3 h4,.ugb-28778b3 h5,.ugb-28778b3 h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3 p,.ugb-28778b3 li,.ugb-28778b3 label,.ugb-28778b3 table{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > h6{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-28778b3-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container{justify-content:center;background-color:#313131}.ugb-28778b3.ugb-container:before{background-color:#313131} 1. Which part of this message stood out most to you? Do you deal with, or suffer with too much worry or anxiety? 2. Pastor stated that, “Worry is focusing on a future you can't control and anxiety is focusing on a past you can't change”. Do you agree with this statement or disagree? Take some time to discuss it and try to restate it in your own words. 3. Matthew 6:30 states, “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?”. What is faith to you? 4. Pastor gave four practical steps to learn to say no: Rehearse - Ask yourself the questions and rehearse the way you wish you would say it.Be Honest - There is never a reason to lie about why you are saying no.Offer Alterations - Sometimes providing another way can help prevent you from saying yes.Do Not Rush - You don’t need to say no to everything but give yourself time to think through the commitment and consequences. Which of these are you good at and which of these do you need to work on? The Power of NO – Setting Healthy Boundaries

Setting Healthy Boundaries Are you ready to learn a key way to overcome temptation as modeled by Jesus? We will draw inspiration from Jesus’ time in the wilderness and see the importance of setting healthy boundaries. You will see that Jesus firmly said “no” to Satan’s temptations and how this maintained Jesus’ spiritual focus.
