Lucy has been a focal point of controversy for decades. Activists, including many well-known celebrities, have advocated for Lucy to be moved to a sanctuary in Tennessee. All the while, the Valley Zoo continues to stress that due to Lucy's fragile health, she could die during transport. "PLACE/is a city written on this body?" centers on a trilogy of improvised and choreographed chapters based on cities that Terracciano has a connection with.
