Would you ride a bike knowing that someone died on it? This is the question that started this whole conversation. When asked, different people had different answers for different reasons which was quite surprising. Death is not something that bikers like to talk about, but realizing how many different opinions there are, it seemed like it should be talked about. This week on our motorcycle podcast we bring stories from our very first Misfits Rally out of the Hollister Hills SVRA park. This week on our motorcycle podcast we are talking about cooking food. With our bikes. No, really. Our moto is Live to Ride, Ride to Eat, so what better way to do this than to cook the food while you ride. We've come up with a list of bikes and dishes that we think are good matches. are you willing to try any? Next up we are joined by champion racer Bubba Shobert. He's a three-time A.M.A. Grand National Champion from 1985 to 1987 and was AMA Superbike Champion in 1988 while riding for American Honda. In 1989 Shobert moved up to the Grand Prix world championship riding for Honda. Unfortunately, Shobert's Grand Prix career was cut short at the third race of the season, where he was involved in a terrible crash with Kevin Magee on the cool off lap after the race, wherein Shobert drove into the back of Magee's motorcycle. Magee had stopped his motorcycle in the middle of the track and was performing a rear-wheel "burnout". Eddie Lawson narrowly missed hitting Magee's bike after he and Shobert had just finished congratulating each other moments earlier and were not looking forward. Shobert suffered severe head injuries but was able to make a full recovery after months of rehabilitation. They are both veterans of the Iron Butt rallies and long distance riding, but that wasn't hard enough. They wanted the ultimate long distance riding challenge; visiting all of the United States in alphabetical order. Think about that. First up, there is a bill being pushed in Connecticut that says if you ride a motorcycle without a helmet and crash, then you automatically become an organ donor regardless of your wishes, religion or family. This week on our motorcycle podcast we are talking about the right to repair. With all the technology on new bikes, owners are not able to work on them. And with the software and tools being so expensive, anyone but a factory dealer may not be able to work on them either. Mike Sayre from the AMA join us to talk about this. Should people be able to work on their bike when the tech is so complicated that they may mess something up or disable safety features? This isn't new in many other industries like cell phones and tractors, but it's fairly new for motorcycles, and the AMA is making sure that bikes aren't being overlooked when legislation comes into play. Tying into this topic, we discuss paying for upgrades that your bike may already be equipped with. Zero has been doing this with their Cypher program, and now KTM has announced a similar system with the 2023 890 Adventure. So if your bike has heated grips or enhanced suspension settings from the factory, should you have to pay extra to unlock it? Or should it just be included in the base price?
