E130: Live Coaching: Make a Daily Schedule that Fits Your ADHD Brain and Mom Life with Time Management Mastery Student Amanda

Not all experts are created equal. There's literally an expert for EVERYTHING under the sun. Productivity, positivity, mindfulness, fashion, health, wellness, love, parenting… Pick any topic and there's someone shouting their opinions about it. Yes, they offer tons of information, insight, and guidance and help LOTS of people. The problem is…many of these experts are spouting advice from a neurotypical brain FOR a neurotypical brain. Now don't get it twisted…I'm not saying ADHD brains can't latch on and get great value from some of those experts. What I'm saying is there's a big gap in the information given and how ADHD brains processes that information. And for ADHD moms who are trying to get their crap together and finally start having FUN being as a mother…all of this "expert" advice can leave them feeling frustrated, defeated, and totally helpless. Have you ever found a system from the latest productivity book and tried implementing it in your life and it just didn't work? Did you think, "I'm trying all these things they say to do…WHHHHY won't these strategies work for me!?" Well, on today's episode we'll talk with an ADHD mom and Time Management Mastery student, Amanda, about her journey with ADHD. She talks about how she kicked non-ADHD standards out the window and opted for ADHD systems created BY and FOR ADHD brains. We cover #allthethings including: - Common ADHD misdiagnosis (bipolar, anxiety, depression) - How Time Management Mastery was developed and how it helps - Why learning to manage our time is important for our kids - Creating a system that builds in FLEXIBILITY for ADHD - Overcoming obstacles and finding JOY in being an ADHD mom If you often struggle with managing your day-to-day life…I encourage you to join the waitlist for Time Management Mastery for ADHD Moms. Amanda's story is a true testament of what can happen when ADHD moms finally decide to do things differently and create systems that work for THEIR minds. Ep 129E129: 3 Steps for Getting Your Crap Together! Time Management for ADHD Moms with Guest Host and ADHD Mom Entrepreneur Angel McElhaney

Mother Necessity has dropped a lot of babies on this earth. When was the last time you learned something new or figured out a major problem out of pure necessity? Like, if you didn't figure something out and FAST - you would lose your ever-lovin' mind? or job? or partner? Today is a treat: ADHD Mom Entrepreneur Angel McElhaney guest hosts the podcast and asks me all about how and why I created the framework behind Time Management Mastery for ADHD Moms. This system was born out of SHEER necessity (for my sanity) and now it's helping dozens of ADHD moms figure out how to work WITH their ADHD brains and build a daily routine that fits their special flavor of ADHD + their family dynamics. Back in the day, I was in a place where mothering was not fun. All my pre-mom skills were not working and I was falling apart at the seams. I felt like I couldn't keep up, and I was in a perpetual state of failure. I was one more sensory overload input away from a total MOM-SPLOSION. It was a hard tour of duty, and I often wanted to give up. I KNOW there are many of you reading this right now who are currently in that trench that feels like the pit of despair. Big hugs, mama. After I finally realized what I was doing wasn't in alignment with what my ADHD MOM brain NEEDED, I decided "the heck with normal...I'm gonna do this MY WAY." While I'd been trying to organize my time, I was using 2 unworthy starting points: A) what *the experts* say is the right way and B) my previous phase of life, aka, a non-mom. And motherhood changes things (as if you hadn't noticed, lol!) So, what did I do? I used my super creative problem-solving ADHD brain and unpacked what was REALLY happening during my day that made everything feel so overwhelmingly scattered and #hotmess vibes. Through my own ADHD knowledge and a TON of outside research, I built a system for myself that eventually developed into a framework that has been helping DOZENS of ADHD moms finally feel like they have the tools to manage their days like a totally in control boss. The waitlist opened today for the next session of Time Management for ADHD Moms. E123: Why It's Difficult to Prioritize Your To-Do List and Actually Stick with your Plan as a Mom with ADHD

Feeling stuck is temporary...when you have the right tools. Understanding how YOUR brain actually works makes it easier to establish systems and create a plan that will work for YOUR brain. Plain and simple. Simple...but not necessarily easy. Let's just say ADHD and executive function aren't great friends. What does that mean for us? It means we end up fighting our brains in a battle royale of figuring out what the MOST important thing is we should be doing at any given time. Many times it feels like we're stuck trying to solve the longest word problem in 12th-grade algebra. Ain't nobody got time for that! ESPECIALLY for moms. It's a real challenge for ADHD brains. But if I had to guess I'd say you're the type of mom that's always up for a good challenge. E121: Estrogen, Progesterone, and Your Menstrual Cycle: Do scientific research studies prove that our ADHD symptoms are affected by our hormone levels? with Dr. Michelle Martel

What is scientific research REALLY doing for women with ADHD? It might *feel* like there is no research being done to help women with ADHD...but my guest today has insight into what's ACTUALLY going on behind the scientific research curtain. Dr. Michelle Martel, a professor and Director of Clinical Training of Psychology for the University of Kentucky, utilizes a translational, "bench to bedside" perspective to examine developmental pathways to Disruptive Behavior Disorders (DBD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), using multiple levels of analysis. Her bio is impressive and our conversation is SO GOOD. Her research uncovers what's really going on in the brains of people with ADHD and further - figures out what's going on internally with our hormones. Dr. Martel brings tons of knowledge around how our hormonal fluctuations affect our ADHD symptoms AND what that means for our mental and emotional health. I'm thankful for people like Dr. Martel who have dedicated time and energy to helping the ADHD community. Her research is not only fascinating, it gives YOU, Successful Mama, options to improve your life by understanding your body. DID YOU KNOW? E120: 4 Things You Should Do To Prepare for Your ADHD Diagnosis Appointment: Taking the fear out of this intimidating and scary step: Q+A Session

ADHD is NOT well understood by most doctors. I know, shocking, right? We often expect our doctors to be the "know all, be all, end all" of medical information, and as much as they want to help us... they just don't get the in-depth training necessary on every single area... And ADHD is one of them. This Q&A session covers my top recommendations when it comes to prepping for an ADHD Diagnosis appointment. Don't get me wrong, I truly believe most doctors want to help us and their hearts are in the right place. I also believe it's important to be our own advocates by making sure we understand our diagnosis and we're prepared to ask the right questions. The question, "How should I prepare for my ADHD Diagnosis appointment?" comes up a lot so I thought it was time I shared my two cents on the subject. Don't worry, Successful Mama. The info in this episode will help you feel confident talking with your doctor about your options and what the right path FOR you will be on your ADHD journey. What other tips would you give someone who's about to talk to their doctor about getting an ADHD diagnosis? Drop your thoughts in the comments. P.s. E117: Afraid of Labeling Your ADHD Child? Plus How to Talk About Your ADHD with Your Kids: A Successful Mama's Adult ADHD Diagnosis Journey with Katelyn Mabry

When we approach ADHD with empathy and understanding everyone wins. Today I chat with special education teacher and author Katelyn Mabry about her experience growing up with an ADHD diagnosis, which led her down the path of teaching. Her ADHD influences how she approaches teaching, and how she navigates being a mother with ADHD. Katelyn shares some great insights that demystify why we shouldn't fear the ADHD label, but rather we how we can embrace it. When we're able to understand the reasoning behind our struggles, it can only help us make positive future progress. We discussed labeling our kids, our own feelings of fear and uncertainty, and how we ADHD'ers tend to have a lower sense of self-worth and confidence, mostly due to lack of information. She coaches us by teaching our kids to accept and feel comfortable around people who are different from us, and why it's important to lead by example the best we can. You've heard it before, our kiddos are like little sponges! The way Katelyn has made educating kids and parents about ADHD to help them understand how we can all learn to approach any "disability" with more curiosity and empathy, rather than judgment or criticism is downright inspiring. Part 1 of this conversation with my friend Katelyn is packed full of all kinds of relatable goodness, Successful Mama! Check out Katelyn's book, "Hi, It's Me! E116: Cycle Synching Basics for ADHD Women: Your Hormones are Your Energy Superpower

Hold up...You're telling me we can harness the power of our cycles by syncing our activities with our hormone and energy fluctuations!? Can we say mind blown? When I learned how cycle syncing helps women create a lifestyle based on their own body's natural flow of hormonal changes, I was hooked. And then, finding out how our menstrual cycles & our hormones affect our ADHD symptoms and energy levels, I went into full hyperfocus mode: Chronic fatigue and energy regulation are serious issues for women with ADHD. I know this chat with wellness guru and creator of The Productive Mum community AND podcast, Sara-Jane Ladums (aka SJ) is going to help soooo many ADHD mamas. She and I dive into the basics of cycle syncing and: - the struggles and symptoms we face during our cycles - how what we eat affects our hormonal levels - learning to accept our bodies and work WITH what's going on internally - how we can use our cycle to understand our energy regulation - why an analogy of the seasons can help us understand the phases of our cycles Cycle syncing is absolutely fascinating and it doesn't have to be overly complicated. There are lots of simple ways you can implement the awareness of it into your daily life. Think about ALL the things going on in your bodies...would you be willing to make a couple of tweaks so you allow yourself to feel and be your best? If so - I encourage you to consider learning more about cycle syncing. I want you to realize how you can set your body up for success by listening to what your body needs, and making sure to support it with understanding and grace. You live in an amazing body that can grow an entire human, mama. I hope you enjoy all the info and advice that SJ gives during this conversation. I was soaking up alllll the goodness and I want you to know, you can feel better in your body. Special thanks to SJ for hanging out with me and sharing her energy-giving knowledge with us! Learn more about SJ on her website here and check out The Productive Mum Academy here while you're at it. E111: Are You Ready to MASTER Time Management as an ADHD Mom?

Does your day ever feel like you're trying to bake cookies without a recipe and have no idea what's in the pantry? Do we have any clean bowls? What's the oven temp? How do I only have 3 chocolate chips??? And why does everyone else get a laminated recipe card and a fully stocked pantry? Sometimes it can feel like we just can't manage in the real world. We are constantly shown how "normal" people plan, organize, and manage their time -- which never seems to work out for us when we have ADHD. The problem is, we're not normal. We are unique. And we need unique tools that were developed for our uniquely amazing brains to help us feel like we have some semblance of control over our time and our lives. Today we're discussing the 4 reasons we struggle to get everything done, and what we can do about it. I'm sharing the tools I use (and teach!) that help lots of ADHD moms feel capable and confident about how they manage their own time. Yes, it might feel like we're on an energy roller coaster, but when we know how the ride works, and understand the ups & downs a little better, we can prepare ourselves to not only have a successful ride - but also ENJOY it! I'm also sharing the first peek into my new course, Time Management Mastery for ADHD Moms! Today's the first day that it's available for you to sign up! bit.ly/adhdframework I'm explaining all the details during today's episode. Sign up now because we start the first week of October! E107: How to Make Motherhood Easier with Allie Casazza: Minimalism and ADHD

Organization and clutter are huge obstacles for ADHD. When my house is cluttered, my mind is cluttered! The unnecessary junk takes up a significant amount of my mental bandwidth, so I've worked dang hard to get rid of the things that are not serving me. I want to help you do that, too. Today, you're in for a treat! Allie Casazza of The Purpose Show Podcast is here to share her wisdom on decluttering and minimalism for moms. Allie's podcast is the very first podcast I listened to, so she was watering the podcast seeds for Motherhood in ADHD. While Allie doesn't have ADHD herself, she was raised by an ADHD mom, is married to her ADHD spouse, and is a mom herself to 4 kids, and her oldest Bella has ADHD as well. I've gotten to know Allie through her business and podcast mentorship, and I just adore the way she teaches - and you know that as a teacher, I have pretty high standards. Allie's all about figuring out what makes sense for you and your life, and not about doing what everyone else is doing. Her methods are very ADHD-friendly, and her love and compassion for our people and how our brains work simply shines through. Allie and I chatted about how we can make our motherhood easier in modern times -- where support for moms runs thin and social media only shows us everyone else's highlight reels. She explains her minimalism philosophy and how clutter is a thief - not just of our space in our homes, but our time and our energy. We also get into the "why" behind decluttering and talk about practical first steps to declutter your home. E106: Stop Looking For A System to Solve Your Problems! Why Buying Another New Planner Will Not Make You Organized When You Have ADHD

There's a perfect system that will work for YOU...but spoiler alert - you won't find it on a shelf at target. The BEST way to find a daily planning system that works for you is to CREATE EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED. Instead of trying planner after unused planner, and forcing them to sorta work, let's make the unique system that fits your life. While it may feel overwhelming at first, when we have help, we can learn to develop systems that work FOR us instead of feeling like a failure because we wasted yet another notebook and feel no closer to success. If we expect a tool, i.e. some random planner, to teach us how to be organized, we'll continually be disappointed by this inanimate object that can't solve our organizational woes! The moral of the story: we can definitely find ways to plan, organize, and execute tasks that work for our ADHD brains when we have a plan to use the system. "How I am going to stick with this, Patricia???" Don't worry - I got you! This is why Daily Planning for ADHD Moms includes a weekly group call. Together you will feel supported and encouraged to continue to make progress on your new habits and the changes you're making in your life. Community is key - and there's so much power when you know and communicate with other mamas who are just like you. You'll no longer feel like you're alone on an ADHD mom island! Having that connection with other mamas who know EXACTLY what you're going through every week makes ALL the difference. And it's what students who take the course say is their favorite part. Yes, they find great success with the modules and tools inside the course but having that actual connection and support is something you can look forward to every week. I know you want to learn, feel seen, and get the advice and tools you need to create a system you know will work FOR YOU! You can do it - we can help! E104: The ONE Thing that Makes Your Daily Planning a Success when You Have ADHD

We can be successful with ADHD when we start living purposefully like we have ADHD. The obstacles pop up like weeds when we try to live life like we don't have ADHD. I pretended like I could be "ADHD-free" for many years. And I failed over and over. I finally realized that THIS is what I needed in order to successfully plan my day with ADHD. When we think about what systems we should have in place, we need to consider what works for an ADHD brain. If we don't consider how our brains process differently, we will always be trying to jam a round peg into a square hole. Creating a plan that actually WORKS for the ADHD brain means sometimes we have to chisel out a square hole on our own! "Neurotypical planning" is difficult for many of us - because it wasn't meant for us! The system I've created with the ADHD brain in mind makes planning actually achievable. Now, I'm not saying it's easy...and I'm not saying it doesn't take some guided effort. What I am saying is there is a way, a system, that I can show you that will help! Join me, and more ADHD mamas, in my **Daily Planning for ADHD Moms** course and weekly accountability group. Let's get your calendar and to-do list organized and create a plan for your day. E103: Do you feel like your ADHD Brain is keeping you from keeping up? Learning to work with your ADHD instead of against it

It's frustrating when we can't seem to align what we want to accomplish with our energy levels or create a line of sight to the end goal. It can be defeating, but I'm here for you! You are not alone and there are so many mamas here rooting for you. There ARE ways you can work WITH your ADHD brain to maximize your output while you manage the energy roller coaster that is living with ADHD as a mama. And as much as our well-meaning neurotypical friends try to help us with comments like, "Well, just use a planner" or "Pay more attention" - it falls flat because our brains don't work that way. But when we understand how our ADHD brains function best, we can create and implement systems made for our brains to support our success. One of the best things I've found for mamas like us is having a support system of other women to whom we can relate. There's freedom in being in a group of women who we know won't laugh at us when we say we have to set a reminder to "eat lunch" or we'll forget... Because it's likely they do the same thing! That's what my **Daily Planning for ADHD Moms** course and accountability group are all about. I'll be there to help you get your foundations in place and guide you when you get off track. It's time to feel confident and capable when planning your day. You can feel successful while navigating life with your ADHD brain! And I'm here to help! You can control the chaos. We also discuss how the DSM doesn't cover a major part of ADHD - the emotional regulation - and how we can work towards changing the perception of ADHD among others, ADHD medication, and the plethora of misinformation out there. I can't wait for you to hear this ADHD gold from the fairy godfather of ADHD himself, Dr. Edward Hallowell. If you haven't yet, go back and listen to Part 1 of our chat. Ned and I talked about using our strengths, overcoming hurdles, negative self talk, the power of connection, and Ned did not shy away from sharing his own childhood trauma, which affects the way he loves on others and the way he parented his now grown children who also have ADHD. Edward (Ned) Hallowell, M.D. is a board-certified child and adult psychiatrist and world authority on ADHD. He has spent the past four decades helping thousands of adults and children live happy and productive lives through his strength-based approach to neurodiversity, and has ADHD and dyslexia himself. Dr. Hallowell is a New York Times bestselling author of the groundbreaking Distraction series, which began with Driven to Distraction, co-authored with Dr John Ratey in 1994, sparked a revolution in understanding of ADHD, and they continue with their latest book, ADHD 2.0. E100: How do I overcome the ADHD energy roller coaster and be more productive? Q+A Session

Mama, 100 episodes!?! High fives all around! I hear this one a lot: How can we have more energy for the whole day? How can we do more, be more, get more done? You asked; I answered. We get frustrated that we can't go at the same speed all day long. We're irritated that our day is an energy roller coaster. But why do we think we need to go-go-go from sun up to sun down? Perhaps the issue is not that we can't be uber productive 24/7, but instead that we expect ourselves to be as consistent as a robot. Energy regulation is a difficult part of ADHD. Maybe we need to lower the bar. Let's discuss. Ready to get your day organized? E098: Feeling Resentful Towards Your ADHD Brain? How to Accept Your ADHD and Work With It Instead of Against It: Q+A Session

How can we start to accept who we are and how our brain works? You asked; I answered. Here's another question I get often from other folks with ADHD. Keep in mind, I've known about my ADHD for 20 years, so granted, I've got some experience to draw from. It's taken me a while, and yes, I still get frustrated with myself. I'm a human, not robot. My ADHD is part of me. It affects every part of my life, but it's not WHO I am. My ADHD is not all of me, not everything I am. E096: Stop the fighting: How do I get my spouse to understand my ADHD? How do I help my partner understand our ADHD child? Q+A Session

You asked; I answered: How do I get my spouse to understand my ADHD? How do I help my partner understand our ADHD child? ADHD is a family affair! It doesn't only affect the person who has it. The entire family is hurt by this neurological disorder. That means that it can also be a huge point of contention in a family. But how can we get a neurotypical person to understand what it is like inside our brains? Are there books they can read or videos they can watch to learn about ADHD? What can they do to be better partners to us? Don't they get that we're not just lazy??? Today we're walking through what the schedule set up looks like, as well as how I have implemented that framework for our family with specifics on time and activities. E091: This ONE THING will create daily confidence, productivity, stop the chaos, and organize your life!

Just one? Really. Big changes come from baby steps. This is baby step 1 of planning your day. But HOW did I figure out how to plan my day in a way that works WITH my ADHD brain instead of against it? Step 1 is learning how to write events in our calendar. Our chaotic brains need ONE system. ONE plan. When we harness the power of the planner, it can change the course of your day. Your day starts off smoother and you are prepared for what is happening. But, we can't do planners the way everyone else does planners, as evidenced by the stack of partially used planners sitting on our shelves. We need a calendar system that works WITH our ADHD brains. When we first consider our time blindness, lack of task initiation skills, motivation to stick with the schedule, and the shame spiral of failed planners past, then - and only then - can we build a system that works for us instead of against us. If you're ready for some help on making a schedule for ADHD, I've figured out a way to make calendars work for ADHD brains and I want to share it with you. Friday is the last day to sign up for this round of How to Keep a Calendar for ADHD Brains, so head over to patriciasung.com/adhdcalendar now to jump in or sign up for the next round. (The answer to question 2 is coming soon.) The million dollar question: If keeping a calendar is pretty straightforward, why do struggle with it so much??? Today we talk about: *how we can stick with a calendar (even though we have a graveyard of dusty planners that show us we don't) *ways we get off track in the first place (spoiler alert, this is pretty predictable due to our executive function problems) *what a calendar is NOT designed to do *the four types of events that happen in our day I'm here to help you know for sure that you can learn how to keep up with your life even with ADHD. E086: A Successful Mama's Adult ADHD Diagnosis Journey with Yakini Pierce

Our guest this week is Yakini Pierce, of ADHD Love. Yakini saw the gap in understanding - people didn't "get" her ADHD kids - and she strives to be a change agent in giving other parents the resources they need and want to help their children succeed. Yakini was diagnosed after both of her children were diagnosed with ADHD, and she started ADHD Love to connect parents of ADHD children with resources and role models as they navigate their child's ADHD diagnosis. She didn't want other parents to struggle as she did to find quality ADHD resources. Listen in as Yakini shares her Adult ADHD diagnosis journey, shares how her parents supported her as a youth, and what action she took as she rode the roller coaster of being the mom to "that kid" who gets kicked out of daycare. You're not alone, mama. Her story continues in the next episode, so stay tuned for part 2 with Yakini! We dive into our discussion on self-care, how she chooses a goal, creates the structure needed to be successful, and how we, too, can achieve big goals with ADHD. Each week of our series on self-care, our guest will share an area of self care that we can use to take care of our ADHD brain, body, mind, and soul. I cannot wait for you to, not only learn what gives you energy, but know wholeheartedly that it is totally doable to take care of ourselves when we make it ADHD friendly.
