Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 7
In part 7 of Understanding the Ruach/Spirit Rabbi Steve Berkson connects the verses found in the Gospel of John chapters 6 and 7 showing us that; (1) according to Messiah Yeshua, the WORDs that He speaks are SPIRIT and are life, and, (2) the LIVING WATER is connected to the WORD which is connected to the SPIRIT. Rabbi Berkson admonishes us to be in the same mind as Peter when he said, “Master, to whom shall we go? You possess words of everlasting life.” This teaching is fully packed with amazing insight that will definitely move you down the path to the Kingdom. Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 6
In part 6 of this series, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us deeper into “what is the Ruach haKodesh (Holy Spirit)?”, specifically, what it does and what is it’s purpose.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 5
In the first section of Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson wraps up the idea of the doctrine of the Trinity by going to Luke 4:1, the account of Yeshua being led by the Spirit into the wilderness. Then Rabbi Berkson addresses the notion that some teach saying the Holy Spirit was not before Acts chapter 2. By going through many scriptures he points out the fact that the Ruach haKodesh has been ever present since the beginning of creation. Each one of us has been given a portion of the Spirit of Elohim as our breath of life and consciousness. In other ways, such as an anointing or inspiration to speak the Word or the mind of the Creator as did John the Baptist, King David and the other prophets.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 4
Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 4 deals mainly with the question, “What is the Holy Spirit”, in Hebrew, Ruach haKodesh or ‘The Spirit of Elohim (YHVH). This lesson deals mainly with the idea of the doctrine of the Trinity; that the Holy Spirit, or Ghost as the Trinitarians say, is a separate entity coexistent and coequal with the Father and the Son. Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this teaching by admonishing us that our ability to fully understand this topic is limited; like a one-cell amoeba trying to understand the multi-cell human body. Rabbi Berkson asks only that his listeners approach this teaching sincerely looking for truth and understanding, not comfort and reassurance that what they already have is the truth and the correct understanding. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 3
Rabbi Steve Berkson continues where we left off in part two on the subject of The Spirit of haSatan vs The Spirit of Elohim as we move into part three. Rabbi Berkson begins in 1 John 5:18-19 where we learn about guarding ourselves and not allowing the “wicked one” to gain a foothold in our lives. We see a definition of the Hebrew phrases ‘Yetzer haRa’ or ‘evil inclination’ and ‘Yetzer haTov’ which is the ‘good inclination’. Then, just as we are about to go to Revelation 12, Rabbi Berkson takes us on a “Rabbi Trail” about the ‘Victim Mentality’ which is devastating to success in walking the path that leads to reward and life.In this lesson Rabbi Berkson begins to define the meaning of Ruach haKodesh (Holy Spirit) taking us to Isaiah 55:6-9 where it is written that the ways and thoughts of YHVH are higher than ours.We will learn what ‘staying in Him (Messiah Yeshua)’ means as Rabbi Berkson teaches from 1 John 3:1-10. John is repeating his writing in the Gospel of John chapter 15 where Yeshua taught His disciples about the vine and the branches.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 2
What do you understand about the “Holy Spirit” or “Ruach haKodesh”? Is your understanding congruent with what the Bible reveals? Is this Spirit a separate ‘entity’, co-equal and co-existent with the Creator and the Son? In part 2 of this series, Rabbi Steve Berkson defines an aspect of ruach/spirit as ‘Intrinsic Nature’ or the ‘Breath of Life’ that has been breathed into humans that separates us from all the rest of the living things that are created. The ability to learn, understand, choose and make decisions. Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 1
What do you understand about the “Holy Spirit” or “Ruach haChodesh”? Is your understanding congruent with what the Bible reveals? Is this Spirit a separate ‘entity’, co-equal and co-existent with the Creator and the Son? Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this extremely important teaching series by comparing the Mt. Sinai event in Exodus 19 and 20 with the event found in Acts 2. Amazingly there are quite a few similarities to be discovered as we go into some definitions of words and phrases to be found in the Hebrew and Greek languages, such as, lightnings, thunder, sound, noise, fire, etc. Also, as Jewish sources suggest, the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai happened on what we now know as Shavuot, which is also when the event in Acts 2 happened.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Baptism of Fire - Part 3
Rabbi Steve Berkson begins Part 3 of this teaching in Leviticus 26:23 where he shows us that the Baptism of Fire has many facets such as being “instructed” of YHVH through “punishment” for disobedience and breaking His Covenant. Then, we see discipleship terminology as we go to Matthew 11:25-30 and read Yeshua’s words, verse 29, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings. For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.” This verse is linked back to Leviticus as YHVH told those of that time that He has broken the bars of their yoke (of Egypt) and made them walk upright (taking on His Yoke); the yoke symbolizes learning and being in submission to the Torah of YHVH which gives us rest which Rabbi Steve links to Jeremiah 6:16, Thus said יהוה, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves.”Rabbi Berkson then teaches us another facet of the Baptism of Fire which is the persecution we will face as we walk in Torah-Observance. Possibly, we may need to detach from things or others, even as close as our own hand or foot (Matt 18:8), so that we can walk unimpeded spiritually. Then, Rabbi Berkson takes us to the writings of the Apostle Shaul (Paul) to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 3) as the Apostle explains to his congregation that each one builds upon the foundation, which is Messiah Yeshua, using various materials. Those materials may or may not make it through the Baptism of Fire which, as Rabbi Berkson points out, is why it’s so important for us to submit to a chosen and appointed authority, in discipleship, so that they can instruct us as to what materials we should build with that will pass through the fire to the other side.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Baptism of Fire - Part 2
In the second part of Baptism of Fire Rabbi Steve Berkson starts in 1 Peter 4:12, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you”, teaching us that we who are followers of Messiah Yeshua will be persecuted because we identify with Him. These fiery trials will test us or prove us as we follow Yeshua in the immersion of water and the immersion of the Ruach haKodesh. Do you count it all joy when you are spoken against by family and friends? (James1:4) Do you value your belief and the proving of what you believe more than anything this world offers? (1 Peter 1:7) Do you know that if you endure to the end you will receive the Father’s approval and respect? Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Baptism of Fire - Part 1
In the Gospel of Matthew 3:11 we read the words of John the Baptist saying, “I indeed immerse you in water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear. He shall immerse you in the Set-apart Spirit and fire.” What do you know about the Baptism of Fire. Is that what happened to those in Acts 2? Who Will Dwell? - Rabbi Tom Mitchell
Psalm 15 gives us a wonderful description of the kind of person that YHVH desires to live with forever. The Heart of the Matter - Part 39 - Ezekiel
Rabbi Steve Berkson concludes the book of the Prophet Ezekiel in part 39 of The Heart of the Matter series. In chapter 20 we see YHWH continuing the chastise the leaders of Judea for allowing their hearts to turn to idolatry. YHWH reminds them that He is theirElohim and that they need no other. He gave them His Torah so that they would live and not die, but the disobedience continued. As YHWH sees it, disobedience is equal to rebellion which is equal to idolatry. Rabbi Berkson explains verse 25, which by some hasbeen misunderstood, that says, “And I also gave them up to laws that were not good, and right-rulings by which they would not live.” Chapter 36 is full of wonderful promises of finally entering the Age to Come as YHWH will gather Israel, replace our stony heartswith hearts of flesh and sprinkle clean water on us. We also learn that we will be judged according to our deeds (works). We will learn that we can choose to jump out of His hand and no longer be under His protection. In chapter 44, the vision Ezekiel was givenfor the coming temple, YHWH declares that no foreigner that is not circumcised in heart and body will be allowed in that temple. Rabbi Berkson also teaches about how the Levitical Priesthood has not been eliminated but will once again do service in the temple to come.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 38 - Ezekiel
Continuing in the book of the Prophet Ezekiel, chapter 18, Rabbi Steve Berkson leads us to understand that Israel was using an idiom at that time, “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are blunted”. This idiom meant that children could receive condemnation because of the evil their parents had done. But YHVH corrected them by saying, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Yisra’ĕl. See, all beings are Mine, the being of the father as well as the being of the son is Mine. The being that is sinning shall die.” So what we learn is that no one can blame another for their own evil choices. We all will stand before the Almighty Judge on our own for what we have done in this life.We will learn the meaning of the Hebrew word, nephesh. We will see a to-do list for life and how YHVH gives us a preview of how He will judge all mankind. Then, Rabbi Berkson ties Ezekiel 18 to Yeshua’s words in Matthew 25 in which Yeshua speaks of Himself as the King that will come and will gather all the nations before Him and separate them one from another as a shepherd separates his sheep from the goats. Rabbi Steve Berkson in the second part of the teaching Leaving Egypt continues giving insight as to what life could have been like as the Children of Israel journeyed to the Promised Land. Leaving Egypt: Passing Through the Waters
At the start of the 2016 Feast of Passover and Unleavened Bread, hosted by MTOI, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings a refreshing perspective on the Exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt. Trying to get into the minds of those ancient people having been in slavery and oppression for many years, Rabbi Steve asks the questions that they may have asked when Mosheh arrived on the scene with a message from their Elohim, the Creator of All, that they were about to be set free and leave that place for a land that had been promised long ago to their ancestor Abraham. In this teaching Rabbi Steve focuses on the escape of the chosen people from the pursuing Egyptians by marching through the waters of the sea and how this great event is still relevant to us today as we go through the mikvah process; burying the old man and becoming a new man through the death, burial and resurrection of Messiah Yeshua.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 35 - Ezekiel
In this 35th part of the series, The Heart of the Matter, Rabbi Steve Berkson moves us into the book of the Prophet Ezekiel to explore what YHWH had to say to His people, Israel, while they were in the Babylonian exile. In chapter 2 the prophet Ezekiel was told to speak "Thus says YHWH" to the people no matter who listened or who didn't listen and to not be rebellious as they were. Then, in chapter 3, Ezekiel was given a scroll to eat which was the Word of YHWH and it was as sweet as honey. Rabbi Steve expounds on how through the scriptures YHWH's Word is compared to the sweetness of honey. Don't miss out on new teachings every week. In One Accord - Rabbi Tom Mitchell
Throughout the Torah, the Prophets and in the writings of the Apostles a cry goes out from the heart of Elohim for unity among His people. Until the time when Messiah returns, the people who claim to carry the name of YHWH must endeavor to live in unity and peaceably with all of their brothers and sisters. They must not be divided but be knitted together in the same mind and Spirit. Rabbi Tom Mitchell brings this timely message to us so that we can understand what endeavoring for unity looks like.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Jeremiah - Part 32
Continuing in the Book of Jeremiah, chapter 11, we see a refresher on the original Covenant made between the Creator and those He selected, who entered into it without even hearing or understanding what the conditions of the contract were, but rather knowing with Whom they were entering it. All of this was to establish the oath which He had made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Genesis 26:4-5). We then move into chapter 13 where we see the illustrated analogy of the girdle that YHWH had Jeremiah to buy, wear, then expose to the elements so that it would become useless and unable to do what it was intended to do. Israel was to cling, cleave and hold fast to their Creator but did not. They were to support, have faith (emunah) in, their Elohim, but became rebellious and stubborn in their “evil heart”, rendering them, in the words of YHWH, a useless people. In chapter 14 we see how the people of Judea were listening to the ones who said they were speaking for YHWH, but were not, to the destruction and exile of both. There is a great danger of speaking for YHWH when He has not spoken.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Jeremiah - Part 31
Moving into the ninth and tenth chapters of the writings of the Prophet Jeremiah, Rabbi Steve Berkson helps us to stop to think “I wonder how our Creator feels” about us; how we think, talk and act. Could our Father say about us, “they have not know me” as He did through Jeremiah to the people of that time? Yet, YHWH still puts those people whose hearts are stubborn and rebellious through the process of refining in order to find the remnant of His People who will cling, cleave and hold fast to Him, those with whom He would want to live forever. We continue to see the term, “stubbornness of heart” over and over. Rabbi Steve points out that if we want to fix the problems with our “walk”, we must allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and find the stubbornness and then eliminate it. Only then will we get to the place where what we want is what the Father desires. In this lesson we will further improve our lexicon by learning the definitions of the words “forsaken”, “discern” and “syncretism.”At the end of this lesson Rabbi Steve cleverly describes the “Manufacturer’s Reset Button” and how this describes all of us who have chosen to walk in Torah observance through the Spirit of Yeshua Messiah.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Jeremiah - Part 30
Rabbi Steve Berkson begins the 30th part of the series “The Heart of the Matter” and the 3rd lesson from the book of the Prophet Jeremiah with a clarification regarding the “sacrificial system” and its relationship to the work of Messiah Yeshua. Many misunderstand this subject due to various erroneous teachings which can be a distraction from the real subject: being obedient is directly connected to living well in all areas of our lives. Then we get to the phrases in Jeremiah 7:24, “incline their ear” and “walked in the counsels” where we learn that it is our responsibility to seek right counsel from godly leaders through the leading of the Holy Spirit and not lean (incline) to our own understanding, in the stubbornness of our own heart, going backward and not forward. We will hear about the things happening in Jeremiah’s day and how the same seems to be today. Rabbi Steve tells us about the process of abomination starting with abhorrent, then to tolerated, then accepted and finally preferred. In the end those who choose to be right according to Torah are persecuted.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Jeremiah - Part 29
Continuing in the book of the Prophet Jeremiah, Rabbi Steve Berkson helps us to understand that this prophet has a "heavy" message in regards to the Heart of the Matter. He begins this teaching in chapter 5 of Jeremiah then connects to the Gospel of John chapter 15 in regards to us being compared to "branches" (Jer 5:10). Don't miss out on new teachings every week. In part 8 of To He Who Overcomes, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues with the subject of ‘Overcoming Evil With Good’ by leading us to Philippians 2:5 and the significance of the 3-letter word, L-E-T; we should ‘let’ the mind of Yeshua be in us.Rabbi Berkson then begins a new subject, ‘Overcoming the Evil One (who wants to make us a liar), taking us to 1 John 2 where the beloved disciple tells it like it is by saying, “The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”Don't miss out on new teachings every week. To He Who Overcomes - Part 7
In part 7 of To He Who Overcomes, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues with the subject of ‘Overcoming the World’ by leading us to a better understanding of the parable Yeshua taught about the Sower and the Seed found in Matthew chapter 13. Why are we taught in parables? What did Yeshua mean when He said in verse 9 “He who has ears to hear, let him hear”? Rabbi Berkson then begins a new subject, “Overcoming Evil With Good”, taking us to the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Roman assembly in chapter 12. Are we truly sacrificing our desires to gain the understanding of that “good, well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim”? Do we as the Body of Messiah realize that we all have different roles that should work together for the benefit of each other and ultimately for the Kingdom of Elohim? What teachers should we or should we not be listening to? In this teaching Rabbi Berkson gives a fabulous definition of the Hebrew word ‘emunah’ or faith/trust/belief.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. To He Who Overcomes - Part 6
Rabbi Steve Berkson concludes teaching us about overcoming “Beliefs, Behaviors, Attitudes and Lifestyles.” He begins with taking us to Luke 9:57-62 where we see several men coming to Yeshua expressing a desire to follow Him, but rather, Yeshua makes an example of them as to “those who look back are not fit for the Kingdom of Elohim.” We will hear the word ‘but’ used quite often as those men will give their reasons/excuses for delaying following Yeshua. Rabbi Steve brings us to understand that our “Big Brother is watching us” and watching over us, interceding for us as we walk the path of righteousness. We learn about the ‘Rule of Thirds’ as it applies to how we should seek counsel from those who are more experienced than we in our relationship with the Father and Son. Rabbi Steve teaches us the common way that people try to rationalize and justify what they want to do by pulling together a coalition of their peers. Then, Rabbi Steve moves into the subject of overcoming the world and takes us in scripture to 1 John 5:1-5 and the Epistle of James chapters 1 and 2. Rabbi Steve exhorts us to not let anybody “shake your tree” when comes to being Torah Observant as having belief/faith has to be coupled with being obedience; “faith without works is dead…”Don't miss out on new teachings every week. No Other Name – Part 9 (Finale)
Rabbi Steve Berkson concludes the series “No Other Name” beginning in Deuteronomy 10 touching on the seriousness of “swearing by the name of YHWH” and whether we should or not, referencing Yeshua’s words in Matthew 5. Also, how the people who carry the name of YHWH have a purpose in this world, to bring honor to His name (identity, reputation) and to be a light to the nations. In Deuteronomy 28 Steve brings out how disobedience to the Torah is the same as bringing dishonor to the name of YHWH. Then ending this lesson with a rapid fire of scripture we get a clarification of the words “according to” found in Psalm 7:17 to actually mean “because of.” Finally concluding with Acts 4, where this teaching began, with a new, deeper understanding of “No Other Name.”Don't miss out on new teachings every week.
