Covenant Community 101: Intro to the Appointed Times of Yahweh - Part 1
Yahweh has set times and seasons according to His purpose. In this teaching of the basics on this matter, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us through the where, what, who and when of these “moadim”, or special appointments. As Rabbi Steve points out, these observances are also set in a specific order that, when understood, become a picture of redemption and salvation.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Covenant Community 101: Get Out the Leaven - Part 3
We have learned what ‘leaven’ is and looked at the examples of hypocrisy, blindness and foolishness in the 23rd chapter of Matthew–now Rabbi Steve Berkson wants us to examine ourselves. Could we be like the Pharisees and scribes who say, and do not do? Are you following Yeshua from a distance like Peter did when Yeshua was arrested?Would there be enough “evidence” to convict you of being a Torah observant follower of Messiah Yeshua?Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Covenant Community 101: Get Out the Leaven - Part 2
Matthew 23:13 gives an account of Yeshua calling the scribes and Pharisees, leaders of the people, on the carpet. He exposed them as hypocritical, blind guides that abused the people for their own greed and power. Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us step-by-step, verse-by-verse to help us understand what Yeshua was saying about them in order for us to examine ourselves and get rid of this “leaven” that could keep us from the Kingdom to come.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Rabbi Steve Berkson takes you through the scriptures that show where the significance of leaven started, how it relates to the sacrifices and examples of how it ruined a whole system of leadership. Rabbi Steve also takes some time in this teaching to address the ‘call no man Rabbi’ issue that has frustrated and consumed many people.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. In part 10, the final part of Discovering Your Identity, Rabbi Steve Berkson moves us from Isaiah chapter 11 to Romans chapter 11 traversing between the TaNaK and the Brit Chadasha. You will learn through the writings of the apostles that they knew and understood the restoration of the two houses. Is favor, or grace, merited or unmerited, since it’s not by works? If it’s merited, by whom? What is the “many-sided wisdom of God”?How do we “put on Messiah” as Paul said in Galatians 3:27?What does it take to really be a disciple of Yeshua? What can you tell those who would question your Torah observance?Rabbi Steve addresses these and more topics in this brilliant conclusion to an extremely important subject.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. What is the “righteousness revealed” of which the prophet Isaiah spoke? (Isa 56). Who is the foreigner who has attached himself to Yahweh? What is the “eunuch” who calls himself a dry tree? Can you fully understand the writings of the Apostles (New Testament) without understanding the Tanak (Old Testament)? If the Jewish people have been rejected and replaced, why did Yeshua say, “deliverance is of the Yehuḏim.”? (John 4:22) Does this have anything to do with Zechariah 8:23?Rabbi Steve Berkson continues to connect the dots between the words of the prophets and the words of Yeshua and the Apostles, helping us to see a clearer picture of the purpose of the Father in sending His Son, Messiah Yeshua, and how it relates to who we are, discovering our identity.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. “Whose House Are We Building?” The Book of Haggai
When the people of the tribe of Judah began to return from the exile in Babylon they were discouraged from rebuilding the temple of Yahweh by the taunts and threats of their surrounding opponents. Instead they worked on their own houses, being concerned with their own affairs and neglecting the worship that was due their Elohim. Then comes the word of Elohim through the prophet Haggai letting them know that Yahweh was aware of what they were doing and encouraging them, commanding them, to get back to work on the temple and resume the worship that is due Him.Rabbi Tom Mitchell takes us through the book of the prophet Haggai.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Covenant Community 101: Discovering Your Identity - Part 5
In Rabbi Steve Berkson’s last teaching we learned that the inheritance, of which the larger portion would normally go to the “first-born”, was split between two of the sons of Ya’akov, his adopted son Ephrayim and his son Yehuda. Yehuda would receive the authority aspect of the inheritance and Ephrayim would receive the rest. Because of this split of the inheritance we see the birth of the Two House scenario, Israel and Yehuda (Judah) that continues to this day.In this teaching Rabbi Steve unpacks the statement given in 1 Kings 12 by Yahweh through His prophet, “This matter is of me.”, speaking of the split of the kingdom of Israel.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Covenant Community 101: Discovering Your Identity - Part 4
In the last teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson showed us the man called Avraham (or Abraham) who was chosen by Yahweh to enter into a covenant which included certain admonishments and promises. In this lesson we will see this covenant handed down to Avraham’s children, Isaac and Jacob (Genesis 22); and ultimately to all who join themselves to the Creator of all, through Messiah Yeshua, then becoming seed of Avraham. Then Rabbi Steve jumps ahead to where Joseph brings his sons, Ephrayim and Manasseh, to his father Israel for the blessing of the patriarch of the family. Israel then adopts the two youths as his own, bringing them directly into the covenant that has been handed down through the family. We will begin to learn the meaning of the concept of ‘breaking forth’ and ‘filling the earth’. Then, from that, making the connection to the apostle Paul’s writings to the Romans as he tells them how hardness in part has affected the Jews until the ‘fulness of the Gentiles’ has been completed. (Romans 11:25)Rabbi Steve helps us to see how the whole Word of God is wonderfully connected. Topics covered in this teaching: Why wasn’t the right/privilege of the first-born always given to the physical first-born? What is the “inheritance” that was given to the first-born? What is really meant by “The sceptre shall not turn aside from Yehuḏah, nor an Inscriber from between his feet, until Shiloh comes, and to Him is the obedience of peoples.”? Do you need to send your DNA to be tested to discover your identity? Not if you’ve become something other than what you were born. The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians (2 Cori 5:17) “Therefore, if anyone is in Messiah, he is a renewed creature – the old matters have passed away, see, all matters have become renewed!” Also in Galatians 3:29 “And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise.” Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to the place in The Scriptures where this change in identity began and how it happened, as well as promises given – to the man called Avram (Gen 12). Some say that Yeshua of Nazareth cannot be The Messiah because in His lineage there is a Moabite, Ruth the Moabitess. Moabites and Ammonites, the people who descended from Lot through the incestuous relationship with his daughters, are never to be a part of the assembly of Yahweh. Rabbi Steve Berkson delivers a blistering blow to this argument and at the same time teaches us about understanding our identity. What is a “stranger”? The Heart of the Matter - Part 64 - The Conclusion
In this final teaching of The Heart of the Matter series, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings a dynamic conclusion by wonderfully tying together all 64 parts. In this teaching Rabbi Steve goes through Ya’akov (James) 4 examining what this teacher/leader of the twelve tribes of Israel felt was critical to their individual growth and the growth of the Body of Messiah. What is the “wants/needs disconnect”? What is the first step in submitting to Yahweh and His anointed/appointed ones? Because Yeshua said there is no one ‘good’ except The Father, should we use the term ‘good’, ever? How does that relate to “call no man Rabbi” or “father”?When applying the scripture to our lives there are two questions to ask ourselves, “What does this look like?” and “Am I actually doing it?”What does it mean to love Him with all your heart? What does it mean to lay the Word up in your heart? What does it mean to be tested to prove what is in your heart? What does it mean to serve Him with all your heart? This teaching is one you will want to revisit again and again, because if the heart is right, you’ll want to figure out the rest of it. The Heart of the Matter - Part 63 - Hebrews & James
Completing the Book of Hebrews, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to Hebrews 13:7 where he once again points out the author’s emphasis on the need for us to be lead by one who is anointed and appointed; one who is leading by example. We must be careful of those teachers who bring “various and strange teachings” which do not benefit anyone, but rather, toss the hearers around like a ball on the ocean. Then we go into the letter from James (Ya’akov) which is intended for the twelve tribes and those who would be grafted in. How can you be joyful in a trial? How do you know if you are going through a trial? What does the term ‘trial’ mean? How do you get wisdom? What does “double-minded” mean? Does HaSatan (the devil) cause all bad things to happen to you? Does YHVH ever change? This teaching is packed with amazing insight, knowledge and wisdom from the Holy Spirit through Rabbi Steve. You’ll want to listen through it more than once to get it all. This is the stuff your spirit craves, so it can grow.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Rabbi Steve Berkson continues in the epistle to the Hebrews, chapter four, bringing a recipe for success which is the Word that we have heard, the Good News, mixed with belief (faith) produces an entrance into the “rest” that is the Kingdom of Elohim (Hebrews 4:2). The result of following this recipe for success gives the doer something that most of this world does not have which is hope. The Heart of the Matter - Part 61 - Hebrews
Many feel that the book of Hebrews is too difficult to understand. Biblical scholars debate and are unsure as to who is the author of this significant letter to the chosen people of the Creator. What exactly do you know about Messiah Yeshua? Have you “closely considered” Him and what it is that He accomplished in His first coming? What is the sure sign that you’ve discovered a true teacher/instructor for your walk? Why is the little word ‘if’ so significant? What is ‘rebellion’ and why is understanding it so important to us? Have you ever wondered about the term “deceivableness of sin”? Did you even know that term existed? How are you at ‘role-playing”?In this lesson, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to chapter three as he gives us perspective as to what was going on with our First-Century brothers and sisters at the time this letter was written and starts us on this leg of our journey in understanding The Heart of the Matter.
