The Heart of the Matter - Part 64 - The Conclusion

In this final teaching of The Heart of the Matter series, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings a dynamic conclusion by wonderfully tying together all 64 parts. In this teaching Rabbi Steve goes through Ya’akov (James) 4 examining what this teacher/leader of the twelve tribes of Israel felt was critical to their individual growth and the growth of the Body of Messiah. What is the “wants/needs disconnect”? What is the first step in submitting to Yahweh and His anointed/appointed ones? Because Yeshua said there is no one ‘good’ except The Father, should we use the term ‘good’, ever? How does that relate to “call no man Rabbi” or “father”?When applying the scripture to our lives there are two questions to ask ourselves, “What does this look like?” and “Am I actually doing it?”What does it mean to love Him with all your heart? What does it mean to lay the Word up in your heart? What does it mean to be tested to prove what is in your heart? What does it mean to serve Him with all your heart? This teaching is one you will want to revisit again and again, because if the heart is right, you’ll want to figure out the rest of it. The heart is the center point of everything you do.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 63 - Hebrews & James

Completing the Book of Hebrews, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to Hebrews 13:7 where he once again points out the author’s emphasis on the need for us to be lead by one who is anointed and appointed; one who is leading by example. We must be careful of those teachers who bring “various and strange teachings” which do not benefit anyone, but rather, toss the hearers around like a ball on the ocean. Then we go into the letter from James (Ya’akov) which is intended for the twelve tribes and those who would be grafted in. How can you be joyful in a trial? How do you know if you are going through a trial? What does the term ‘trial’ mean? How do you get wisdom? What does “double-minded” mean? Does HaSatan (the devil) cause all bad things to happen to you? Does YHVH ever change? This teaching is packed with amazing insight, knowledge and wisdom from the Holy Spirit through Rabbi Steve. You’ll want to listen through it more than once to get it all. This is the stuff your spirit craves, so it can grow.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 62 - Hebrews

Rabbi Steve Berkson continues in the epistle to the Hebrews, chapter four, bringing a recipe for success which is the Word that we have heard, the Good News, mixed with belief (faith) produces an entrance into the “rest” that is the Kingdom of Elohim (Hebrews 4:2). The result of following this recipe for success gives the doer something that most of this world does not have which is hope. Hope in something that is beyond this present life; the future Kingdom of Elohim.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 61 - Hebrews

Many feel that the book of Hebrews is too difficult to understand. Biblical scholars debate and are unsure as to who is the author of this significant letter to the chosen people of the Creator. What exactly do you know about Messiah Yeshua? Have you “closely considered” Him and what it is that He accomplished in His first coming? What is the sure sign that you’ve discovered a true teacher/instructor for your walk? Why is the little word ‘if’ so significant? What is ‘rebellion’ and why is understanding it so important to us? Have you ever wondered about the term “deceivableness of sin”? Did you even know that term existed? How are you at ‘role-playing”?In this lesson, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to chapter three as he gives us perspective as to what was going on with our First-Century brothers and sisters at the time this letter was written and starts us on this leg of our journey in understanding The Heart of the Matter. The Heart of the Matter - Part 60 - 2 Timothy

Moving through the Apostle Shaul’s (Paul) letters to Timothy, his disciple, once again we see the need for anointed and appointed teachers as Timothy is instructed to enlist “trustworthy men who are competent to teach.” Shaul uses metaphors such as being a good soldier and a farmer; do you know what these mean? The meaning may not be what you’ve been taught.Do you know what it means to “deny” Yeshua? What about the phrase ‘endure hardship in order to reign’? Are the Jews doing it all wrong? The Heart of the Matter - Part 58 - Colossians

Moving forward through the epistles (letters) of the apostle Paul we arrive at the letter to the Colossians where Rabbi Steve Berkson points out the various recurring themes throughout all of Paul’s writings, comparing things which are above with things that are earthly, righteousness with unrighteousness, that which is of life with that which is of death. Rabbi Steve shows how Paul was admonishing his followers to go ‘beyond the mechanics’ of Torah observance to an obedience from the heart, speaking and doing in the name of the Master Yeshua, with thankfulness to Elohim the Father through Him.This teaching is full of practical life application that can help you no matter where in your walk of being Torah observance you may be.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 57 - Philippians

Continuing on the journey through “The Heart of the Matter” Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this lesson in Philippians, chapter 4, verse 6, where the apostle Paul says, “Do not worry at all, but in every matter, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to Elohim.” We learn from this lesson that as we do what Paul said to do we are exercising our belief/trust, emunah, in The Father. Then we will experience the peace, shalom, that is beyond our human understanding, because it’s the peace that can only come from Him. He says that again in verse 9, which again is ‘discipleship language’, as He says to practice these things and the Elohim of peace shall be with you. This teaching is totally full of sage wisdom about personal relationships and how to deal with yourself and others according to Torah.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 56 - Ephesians

As Rabbi Steve Berkson concludes the letter to the Ephesians we understand that we are no longer considered Gentiles, outside of the camp, but through Messiah Yeshua have been brought together with the community of the chosen, fellow citizens, along with the covenants and promises. With that, we are to walk in obedience to Torah, imitating Elohim (5:1). What does it mean to be “subject to each other”? (vs 21) Why did the apostle Paul start talking about husbands and wives, children and parents, servants and masters? Is there more to understanding chapters 5 and 6 than what you have been taught previously? What does “do not provoke your children” mean? (6:4) What is the “Critical Transition”?Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 55 - Ephesians

Continuing our journey through the apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings us into chapter 5 where we are told to become imitators of Yeshua Messiah as “beloved children” which is pleasing to The Father. Being a follower of Yeshua according to His own words is to no longer walk in darkness but possess the light of life (John 8:12). So to walk as children of the light is to prove it by doing what is well-pleasing to the Master. Yeshua said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 54 - Ephesians

Now that Rabbi Steve Berkson has thoroughly taught us what the Apostle Paul was writing to the Ephesians in chapter two, he now leads us into understanding chapter three; the mystery or secret of what Messiah Yeshua accomplished through His death, burial and resurrection - that the nations (Gentiles, those who are outside) now have a place among those who are the chosen ones according to the flesh, Israel. Then Rabbi Steve moves us into chapter four where a problem with authority is addressed. Submitting to the right leadership, anointed and appointed, is the only way we as the body of Messiah are going to learn to love each other and come together in unity and be one. Existing today are the five ministries as listed in Ephesians 4:11, emissaries (apostles), prophets, evangelists, shepherds and teachers. These exist today. We must pray to the Father that our eyes are opened to recognize who these people are in order to properly learn for the sake of the Kingdom of Elohim. This is very unusual that Rabbi Steve Berkson would actually go back and re-teach a message, but in this case he felt the need to delve deeper into the second chapter of Ephesians to explain the process of righteousness and unity that the apostle Paul was conveying to the Ephesians. In this lesson you will learn about a dangerous and harmful teaching called ‘bilateral ecclesiology’ and something Rabbi Steve calls “New Doctrinal Understanding Crack”.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 52 - Ephesians

Starting in the letter to the Ephesians Rabbi Steve Berkson points us to the fact that the Apostle Paul was trying to help the believers in Ephesus that even with what Messiah Yeshua accomplished in His death, burial and resurrection there is still an “expectation” to abide by the covenant with the Creator that was laid out in Exodus chapter 19, (paraphrasing) “If you diligently follow my words, I will take you as my people and bless you more than you can know.” Rabbi Steve helps us to understand that we don’t have to “understand” every thing that we are required to do, but that in the doing we will begin to understand. We should have an attitude like Abraham in that whatever YHVH told him to do, even to the sacrificing of his son, he said, “Here Am I!” In Hebrew, hineni. This is what Rabbi Steve calls, “a ‘Trusting’ Obedience.” In this teaching Rabbi Steve explains thoroughly the famous passage found in chapter 2 and verses 8-10. Throughout this teaching the word grace is defined and explained as to whether it is “unmerited favor” or “merited favor”. Are we really saved (delivered) by unmerited favor? What are the “good works” that were prepared beforehand? What is “the Torah of the commands in dogma”? Rabbi Steve brings clarity to these seemingly unclear and difficult sayings of Paul.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 51 - 1 Corinthians

What we find in this letter from the Apostle Paul to the believers in Corinth is that strife had risen up among the assembly over which teacher was better than the other and which teacher someone followed, turning it into a status issue. If Paul were here today and observed the strife and division among some of us, would he be wondering why things haven’t changed in the last 2,000 years? Would he need to be committed and put in a ‘rubber room’? What Paul had to address was that the people were boasting in men and how they may have arrived in some understanding that they judged others not to have. This kind of attitude is a condition of the heart and is not acceptable in the body of Messiah. If there is any boasting to be done, Paul says boast in YHVH/Yeshua.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 50 - Romans

Continuing in the Apostle Paul’s letter to those of The Way in Rome (Romans), chapter 10, Rabbi Steve Berkson poses the question that comes out of verse 4 – are you doing what you’re doing just to look righteous to others, or are you doing it to look like Messiah Yeshua? In this chapter we see Paul quoting Moses from Deuteronomy chapter 30, who is talking to the people about the Torah, but symbolically speaking of Messiah. When someone says, “I’m saved!”, what does that mean? Is it a status? a state of being? Hear what Rabbi Steve has to say about that. Moving into chapter 5 of Romans, Rabbi Steve takes us on a journey of understanding how we should feel honored and blessed when we go through “pressures”, which produce endurance, which produces the approval of YHVH.Then, going into the second letter from Peter (2 Peter) chapter 1, Rabbi Steve teaches us the steps that we should take to ensure that we will never fall from our faith.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 49 - Romans

There’s more ‘heart’ to be discovered in the letter to the Romans as Rabbi Steve Berkson continues in chapters 8 and 10, breaking down verse by verse what the apostle Paul was communicating to the set-apart ones living in Rome at that time. Through Rabbi Steve’s teaching we find that Paul was not teaching against Torah observance, but rather, by living according to the Torah we become pleasing to the Father, who has adopted those who are obedient and has made them heirs to the riches that cannot be compared to anything in this present world.Questions:• Can you be led by the Spirit of Elohim through those who are anointed and appointed leaders and teachers? • Will you argue or will you do whatever you’re instructed to do; even if you don’t understand now? • How do you ‘vet’ or choose those to whom you should be listening?• What will we be doing for a thousand years in the Father’s kingdom?Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 48 - Romans

Continuing in the letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to the faithful in Rome, Rabbi Steve Berkson again emphasizes that to understand what Paul was trying to say in this letter, context is crucial. In chapter 6, again we see the contrasting of righteousness vs unrighteousness. We see how even the believers of that time were struggling to understand the purpose of Messiah Yeshua’s death and resurrection and how it relates to them.In chapter 7 we will hear about Paul’s personal struggle with walking in death and walking in the new life that Messiah Yeshua provided. As we move into chapter 8 Paul begins to reveal the light at the end of the tunnel – that there is no more condemnation to those whose desire it is to walk according to the spirit; by the words that Messiah Yeshua spoke which is Torah given by His Father. (John 6:63)Bottom line – The Apostle Paul did not teach that the Torah is now done away with but that the penalty that comes from ‘law of sin and death’ has been abolished by the work of redemption through Messiah Yeshua. The Heart of the Matter - Part 47 - Romans

Rabbi Steve Berkson moves us into chapter 2 of the letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to the faithful in Rome (Romans 2). In part 47 of The Heart of the Matter Rabbi Steve hopes to give clarity to these passages that are typically taken out of context and misunderstood. The theme in Romans chapter 2 that we will see is ‘righteousness verses unrighteousness’ and how we are judged as being one or the other. We will also see the terms ‘circumcision’ and ‘uncircumcision’ and how they could be interpreted as those who are born into the covenant through the bloodline (Jews) and those who choose to enter into covenant but are not of the bloodline (Greeks, or everyone else). We will see that the Apostle Paul actually taught ‘Torah Observance’ (Rom 2:13) and how the heart being filled with faith and love for the Creator seeks to please Him by doing the “good works” – faith-based works.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. The Heart of the Matter - Part 41 - Matthew

Part 41 of The Heart of the Matter continues exploring the Gospel of Matthew for the understanding of what the scriptures wants to show us about our hearts. Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this teaching in Matthew chapter 11 and reveals the ‘Language of Discipleship’ as Yeshua implored his followers to “take his yoke” upon them. The Heart of the Matter - Part 40 - Matthew

Part 40 of The Heart of the Matter begins the study on the subject of our hearts as the writers wrote about it in the Brit Chadasha (New Testament), the Gospel of Matthew. Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to the event called the Sermon on the Mount where Yeshua had a discipling time with His taught-ones. Questions to ponder in this teaching: What is our role to play in our walk before the Creator?, Didn’t Yeshua do all that is necessary for our salvation?, What are the “good works” that Yeshua talked about?, What is it that defines ‘righteousness’? Let’s Get Wet! - Rabbi Tom Mitchell

Rabbi Tom Mitchell from Beth Shalom Messianic Congregation, an affiliate of MTOI, brings an interesting perspective on several topics related to water. He begins with teaching about the process of immersion (baptism), then using the names of some of the Torah Portions to “paint a picture” of what’s happening in Israel today. The teaching then turns to the comparison of the Torah and rain.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Understanding the Ruach/Spirit - Part 8

In Part 8 of Understanding the Ruach/Spirit, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings this series of teachings to a conclusion. In this lesson Rabbi Berkson continues to allow the Scriptures to define itself regarding the Ruach/Spirit with the admonition that we are seeking the truth and understanding, not comfort and reassurance that what we already have is the truth or the correct understanding. Subjects covered in this lesson include, “What is the ‘sword of the Spirit’?”, “How do I talk to my family and friends about the wonderful things I’ve come to understand?”, “What is this ‘laying on of hands’ about?”, “What does ‘poor in spirit’ mean?”, and much more.Don't miss out on new teachings every week.
