First we will discuss Palm Sunday: its history, traditions, and the unfortunate changes which can be observed in the 1962 Rite and beyond. We will then move on to Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, and we will examine the ceremony itself, the blessing of holy oils, and the importance of this feast. Join us as host Stephen Heiner is joined by show guest Father Charles McGuire for another in depth look into the Liturgical Year. The Liturgical Year, Episode 2: Ember Days & Ash Wednesday

On this episode of The Liturgical Year, we get ready for Lent next month, and Father will tackle two penitential feasts: the Ember Days and the start of Quadragesima itself: Ash Wednesday. Learn about this history of these feasts and what we should be meditating on in order to get the most out of these upcoming celebrations. We will also be discussing the vesting process of the priest - the prayers he says and the clothing he dons as he says those prayers. Join us as our guest Fr. Charles McGuire, and host Stephen Heiner, will discuss these issues and more. The Liturgical Year, Episode 1: Candlemas & St. Blaise

Yet another new show for Season 3 of Restoration Radio, we introduce The Liturgical Year. We think the Liturgy - the public prayer of the Church - is experienced best when we, as laypeople, bring more understanding and appreciation of specific feasts to each Mass. This month's episode will focus on two important February feasts: Candlemas and St. Blase. Join host Stephen Heiner and show guest Fr. Charles McGuire as Father walks us through both of these feasts, why they are important, and what you can do to prepare. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep16: College and Careers

Clerical Conversations finishes Season 3 by discussing college and careers: what are young people to do in their high school years as they prepare for life on their own. Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada share their many decades of pastoral experience and discuss the importance (or non-importance) of college, the folly of making money your primary object in choosing a career, the importance of being close to your parish and contributing, and perhaps most importantly, the fact that these paths are different for men than for women. We also discuss how relocation for the sacraments, finding a spouse, and your career and job/career might all be tied together. Join guest host Stephen Heiner as he discusses these topics with His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio on this month's episode of Clerical Conversations on the Crisis. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep15: Militarism, The Military Culture, and Catholicism

This month on Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, we continue in a similar fashion with commentary which springboards off of last month's show to have a discussion about the military, what today's military culture is, and the Catholic response to it. How do our puppet masters use the military as the action arm to advance their agenda through endless war and why does it appeal to the young -- even traditional Catholics -- so much? Is it real patriotism or is it something else? We frame the discussion (once again) by examining the Social Kingship of Christ, and why before anything else, the Catholic faith must be the lens through which this topic can be studied. Father will lay out the principles of what a just war is, and will discuss why any of these modern wars cannot be viewed in any way as fulfilling the principles of a just war. We tie in the conversation with reflecting on St. Martin of Tours, who was conscripted into the Roman Army and later came to realize that his participation in the war with the Gauls was not compatible with his Christian faith - and refused to fight. We look carefully at some wars and their destructive weaponry in modern history, their justification (or lack thereof) and whether or not a Catholic can have anything to do with the wars he sees raging around the world today. We will talk about military culture and what the human soul is exposed to in the petri dish of social experimentation that is the military. While we speak primarily of the United States military, we will also get a look at other militaries as conveyed by our host, who gives an interesting insight through personal experiences which prove that these issues are not singular to that of the institution of the United States military. We also talk about how the celebration of the military culture has been made manifest in the hearts and minds of the average citizen in this country, and how wearing battle fatigues has created a caste system in society to elevate both military and police to a new level in the eyes of the citizenry. Is there a problem with this? Is there a problem with women in combat? Can a Catholic in good conscience volunteer to join the military and be absorbed into the leviathan that awaits him? What does it mean and can a Catholic be a conscientious objector to today's wars? We recognize that this topic may be sensitive to listeners, but we ask that you listen with an open mind as Bishop Dolan and Father Cekada explain the stark realities behind the military culture, the unjust wars being waged in the name of freedom and democracy, the astronomical profits being accrued by the military industrial complex and our puppet masters, and much more. Join us host Nicholas Wansbutter as he discusses these topics with His Lordship, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio on this month's episode of Clerical Conversations on the Crisis. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep14: The Militarized Police State, Empire Building & Civil Unrest

This month on Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, we return to the air after our summer break with a tour de force of solid Catholic commentary on many news stories which have arisen over the Summer of 2014 A.D. across the globe and also in the United States. We begin by dispelling the naturalist concept that has been force-fed down the throats of both Clergy and laity alike that the Clergy have no business commenting on politics, political affairs, or current events that do not touch directly on matters of the faith. All the topics covered in this episode, as His Lordship correctly points out, are topics that must be viewed from the perspective of the Social Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ in order to understand correctly the problems themselves and what we as Catholics are to think about them. The first order of business on this episode is discussing the principles of war, what constitutes a just war, and how modern warfare has morphed into something absolutely horrific. Why is it that the United States of America has been at war since the birth of nearly every single person reading this text and what has been the goal of those perpetual wars? Whose interests are being served? As Our Lady of Fatima said, war is a punishment for sin. Why does it seem that so many Americans are so accepting of endless war and touching the topic of our last episode, what role has State propaganda played in shaping this acceptance and support? How has this policy led us to the horrific tragedies that we have seen over the last few weeks of the beheadings of journalists James Foley Wright and Steven Sotloff at the hands of the Mohammadans? Turning our attention to the United States, the latest news from Ferguson, Missouri is yet another display of the state of affairs in civil society which is becoming less civil by the day. The situation is spiraling completely out of control into civil unrest with lootings, murders, and rampant violence. Once again, in a similar vein of the Boston Marathon incident in 2013, we see the militarized police state on display in the city streets of the United States, wielding military firepower, armored personnel carriers, and the latest in advanced technological weaponry. How is a Catholic supposed to view the disturbing spectacle of this wanton display of State power and how does this bode for the future of this nation? Once again, why have the fires of racial tension continued to be stoked and who is using who in these increasingly-frequent crises that pop up? Lastly, we cover the summer story of the massive illegal immigration problem at the Southern border of the United States and discuss how Catholic principles should have us seeing a lot of different angles regarding this latest development. Join us host Nicholas Wansbutter as he discusses these Summer events of 2014 with His Lordship, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio on this month's episode of Clerical Conversations on the Crisis. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep13: History, Propaganda, & Catholicism

This month on Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, taking as our starting point a recent article featured on the UK Telegraph, entitled "How a Protestant Spin Machine Hid the Truth about the English Reformation," we will discuss the Protestant Revolt in England and the parallels to be drawn with our own time.. From here we will move to discuss the effect of propaganda, and look at the propaganda of the modern state and Novus Ordo sect. How are traditional Catholics effected by this? What can we do to mitigate the effects of this incessant propaganda on ourselves? S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep12: Relocation, Survivalism, and the End of the World

On this month's episode of Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, we will tackle several topics of recurring interest to traditional Catholics. Following up on the January Flagships show, we will discuss the pros and cons of relocation for the sacraments from a clerical perspective. Is it a moral imperative to move to be closer to the sacraments? Can one settle for attendance at an S.S.P.X. Mass if that is nearby? We will also discuss the oft-floated idea of creating a traditional Catholic village. We will then move on to discussing survivalism, dire predictions of an impending economic crash, the end of the world, and the "Three Days of Darkness". What is the proper Catholic attitude to each of these things and how does one appropriately deal with them in one's everyday life? S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep11: Annulments and the Catholic Order of the Household

On this month's episode of Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, we will tackle two topics that are both timely and topical. As time marches on and annulments have become almost as widespread as a pandemic, how are Catholics today to understand Novus Ordo annulments and deal with them in their daily lives amongst family & friends? What are the effects on children and how should that be dealt with? How are we as Catholics to deal with those who are in invalid marriages. What are those who are converts or who come to traditional Catholicism late in life to do about the situation of being in an invalid marriage? We will discuss what exactly an annulment is, why one would be issued, and what the general landscape looked like pre-Vatican II with regards to annulments. We will then move on to discussing the Catholic household, and in particular, instilling a Catholic order to that household. What is the hierarchy of the household, and what are the complimentary differences between men and women? How has this been undermined in modern society? What does it really mean for the husband to be the head of the family? What are his duties and his privileges as head? What is he to do if those under his authority are not submissive to it? We will also talk about the roles of parents and children. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep10: Sports Build Character? (Part 2)

On this month's episode of Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, we will bring a second installment of last month's show theme Sports Build Character? Part 1. His Excellency and Father will respond to several question themes given to us by listeners, and then will continue to expound on their thoughts from last month's show. They will dig deeper into the modern understanding of sport and its place in today's society, and they also will examine forensically the fundamental problems with the Olympic Games. What relationship can Catholics have with sports in general, as well as active or passive participants? Why should we engage in sport to aid our physical well-being? What about children and organized sports? We will also dispel the internet rumors on St. Pius X's view of the olympic games, and finally why the proper understanding of the necessity of balance is so important. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio return with new show host Nicholas Wansbutter to discuss these timely topics on this month's Clerical Conversations on the Crisis. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep9: Sports Build Character? (Part 1)

Restoration Radio presents its own version of a "Super Bowl Sunday" special: "Sports Build Character? Part 1." We have all heard this, but is it so, or is there more to it? In today's modern world, sports has been placed on a lofty pedestal of central importance in the lives of modern men. TV, radio, and internet provide 24/7 wall-to-wall coverage of everything imaginable related to sports and atheletes. Children idolize athletes and aspire from a young age to play sports, well into their adult years. Many view it as a way towards success in life. What is the Catholic view of sport, what is its place in our lives, and how are we as Catholics to view a society which is saturated in sports? Has sport taken on a religious context of its own, and are there religious parallels with what modern sports have become? Join us as host Stephen Heiner discusses this looming giant of a topic with His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Westchester, Ohio. S3, Clerical Conversations, Ep8: Right vs. Left Politics, Abortion & the Media Age

Kicking off Season 3 of Restoration Radio's Clerical Conversations on the Crisis, we are restructuring the show back to its original intent - to discuss modern issues facing Catholics across a broad spectrum of topics. On this episode, we will break the show into three parts: (A) Right vs. Left Politics: we will discuss the philosophy behind this, and why it simply is a distraction from real issues. (B) Abortion: what is the appropriate social action for traditional Catholics regarding abortion? (C) Current Events in a Media Age: The pull, the buzz & the lies. Join us as H.E., Bishop Daniel Dolan, pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Westchester, Ohio, and Father Anthony Cekada discuss these topics with host Justin Soeder. Pastoralia, Episode 10: Dating and Courtship

In this episode of Pastoralia, we take a few steps backward from our look at Catholic child rearing to discuss the Catholic ideal of courtship. Blind and infatuated worldlings date in order to date, with perhaps only the remotest thought to the permanence of marriage. Why, then, does a Catholic not merely date for the sake of dating? We begin our episode with a look at the purposes of courtship, which extend well beyond compatibility testing. Next we speak about the spiritual aspect of courtship and, for all the good which may come out of it, the necessary near occasions of sin it requires. How is a Catholic to court virtuously? Before moving any further, armed with the knowledge of the purposes of courtship, Father discusses who is — and who isn't — someone to pursue in a courtship. Avoiding stock answers, we look at not only the most basic requirements, without which a marriage would lack a common foundation, but, beyond the necessities and although not strictly required, how compatibility between two potential spouses is something not to be dismissed as somehow worldly and uncatholic. Knowing why and with whom, we then ask when is the right time to consider marriage, to which the whole of courtship is directed. Is a difference in age fatal to the endeavor? Is it to be desired? How does maturity factor in? On the topic of maturity, we confirm that the man who fails to pursue a woman in a courtship, instead expecting her to engage him, not only hasn't met his responsibility as a man, but probably did not deserve the chance he wasted in not approaching her in the first place. A harsh truth indeed! This manliness (action, not braun) required for courtship, has long been under fire by those who preach equality of the sexes. Once a couple has entered into a courtship, we discuss how long a courtship (and eventual engagement) should last. During that time, is constant chaperoning required as the virtuous thing to do? Finally, we close our episode with family issues which may arise during a courtship. Should the idea of "marrying a family" be an issue — especially if the family doesn't like you or your family doesn't care for the person you've invited to Christmas dinner? What about objections voiced by parents against the potential marriage: Should this be fatal to the nuptials? Join Fr. Stephen McKenna of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio (and many mission chapels), Mr. Justin Soeder, and host Joshua Gunsher in this episode of Pastoralia. Pastoralia, Episode 9: Catholic Parenting (Part 2)

On this season's inaugural episode of "Pastoralia," we pick up where we left off last season, in the second of two episodes devoted to understanding Catholic parenting and child rearing. My, how these children have grown in just a few months! Diapers and strollers have given way to increasingly independent pre-teens and teenagers. It is on these older children that we focus in this episode, again steadying ourselves on perennial Catholic thinking, rather than the absurd and dangerous maxims of the world. We begin our discussion with the Fourth Commandment, which requires us to honor our parents, not merely to obey them. Should a child need to be corrected, we address how to reprove a child without cultivating an unhealthy fear of his parents, while keeping in mind the words of St. Paul, "Fathers, provoke not your children to indignation, lest they be discouraged" (Col. 3:21). Our conversation continues as we explore how to cultivate independence in our children, teaching them how to make their own wise decisions, but in such a way that still protects their souls and bodies from danger. Children learning a healthy, Catholic self-reliance often benefit from a good balance between the demands made in maturity and a continued need for recreation. In this portion of the episode, we find out that balance is critical. What, then, of a child who has become so disproportionately filled with a spirit of independence that he rebels against his parents or the Church? We work through this particular effect of Original Sin, and offer a means of choosing to control and harness rebellion, directing it against those vices which are worthy of adolescent contempt. Finally, we ease our way into dating and courtship, not only as part of the process of choosing a state of life, but as something which requires care and virtue to be practiced by the young. Fraught with the potential for serous spiritual harm, we also explain the need to keep the home as a spiritual safe haven. Join Fr. Stephen McKenna of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio (and many mission chapels) and host Joshua Gunsher in this month's episode of "Pastoralia." Pastoralia, Episode 8: Catholic Parenting (Part 1)

On this month's episode of Pastoralia, we take on a perennial topic in part 1 of a 2 part discussion: the Catholic understanding of parenting and the raising of children. This is a topic which is obscured and largely influenced by a cacophony of noise from modern pop psychology and pseudo-intellectual modern parenting books. We begin the conversation with a discussion of the child-rearing theories of the modern world and the inherent problems with them. Father will compare those to the Catholic principles of child-rearing and why the Catholic building blocks of child raising and why these principles provide children with the best possible chance of retaining the Catholic faith, saving their souls, and being productive members of society. We will talk about the issues surrounding the nursing of children, what is appropriate and what is not, the norms of modesty as it relates to nursing, and when the nursing should end. The subjects of children sharing bedrooms, disciplining the children and corporal punishment. There seems to be quite the debate even among traditional Catholics about corporal punishment, and Father will lay out the biblical reference for such punishment and the guiding principles for the use of it. Father will give instruction on the spiritual duties of the parents and will illustrate that spiritual duty is the reason behind all of the actions in how parents raise their children. Join us as Fr. Stephen McKenna, assistant pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio (and pastor of many mission chapels), and host Joshua Gunsher as they conduct this month's episode of Pastoralia. Pastoralia, Episode 7: Extreme Unction and Last Rites

On this month's episode of Pastoralia, we tackle a subject that is somewhat confusing to the laity and accompanies with it some degree of fear: Extreme Unction and Last Rites. We will begin by having a deep discussion of what exactly this Sacrament is, what it is not, and understanding the difference between Extreme Unction and the Last Rites. After we examine the nature of the Sacrament, then we will shift into what the necessity of it is, when a Catholic may ask for it, and what the requirements for requesting it encompass. Father will guide us through sick calls, proper etiquette and disposition during a "routine" sick call versus an emergency call where death is imminent. Father will also discuss how to discern when it is appropriate to call a priest, dispel many myths that people usually have regarding this Sacrament and how frustrating it is for a Priest to have an individual or a family "hold back" and wait too long before calling and potentially risking the soul of the sick person who is in genuine need of the Sacraments. For those of you who have uttered the words I don't want to bother Father with this, this is an episode you really need to hear. How should your home be ordered upon arrival of the Priest making the sick call? What requisite components should be near the bed of the sick individual needing the Sacraments? What is the process and what actually occurs during the anointing? What items should one have on hand for a sick call? What items should one not have in the room during a sick call? Who is permitted to be in the room with the Priest? What should the atmosphere of the room be during a sick call between the sick, the Priest, and those present? How often can one receive the Sacrament of Extreme Unction or Last Rites? What type of oil is permitted for use in the Sacrament and how is it obtained? If you are asking any of these questions, then this episode is for you. Pastoralia, Episode 6: Confession

On this month's episode of Pastoralia, we return to talk about the Sacrament of Confession. While we may consider this topic to be understood by most practicing Catholics, there is never enough discussion both on the fruits of the Sacrament, but also on the various orbital topics that go along with it. Before we begin the topic itself, we begin the program by first making a slight detour per listener requests about "what to do now?" So you have been studying, you've come to the realization that you can have nothing to do with the heretics and apostates who occupy the Vatican and the diocesan sees across the world, but are confused as to what your obligations are from this point forward. We will let Father discuss this topic which is a very real one that all of us at one time faced. Then we will move right into the discussion on Confession. We begin talking about the obligations a Catholic has to fulfill in order to make a good confession and how parents must be the prime force in their child's life in not only teaching them to make a good confession, but also making it readily available to them. Father will discuss some "do's and don'ts" for parents regarding their children's confessions and frequency of its practice. Father will then give a commentary on what are important aspects of a child's confession that he should consider before entering the confessional, as well as that of adults. How often should we be going to confession? Should we have a regular confessor? What if that option is not available to us? Is it allowable for us to go seek out confession from a validly ordained priest who is of other religious congregations who are in union with the modernists in Rome? What are the rules of charity regarding making Sunday confessions when you have other opportunities to do so? Father will then hit on many aspects that give souls a moment of pause and present an obstacle to making a confession, such as: What if Father hears my voice and knows who I am? I can't just grab Father outside the confessional and ask him to hear a confession because he will know who I am! I am too embarrassed to tell Father this, he will think I'm a horrible person. Father presents a clear, concise, and priestly view on the reality behind the confessions that he hears on a daily basis and gives listeners the reassurance that when a man enters into the confessional, he is no "special snowflake," and that he should confidently and humbly approach a priest at any time that he needs to avail himself of the Sacrament. Father will even talk about his confessions, and how his confessions differ from that of the laity; our listeners may be surprised to hear that they hardly differ at all, except in one small detail. Father will close out with talking about perhaps the most important thing we can do upon a fall into sin and the time period that exists between being able to make a sacramental confession: the perfect act of contrition. Join us as we return for the second half of Season 3 with Fr. Stephen McKenna, assistant pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio (and pastor of many mission chapels), and host Stephen Heiner as they conduct this month's episode of Pastoralia. Pastoralia, Episode 4: How to Live and Work with Non-Catholics

On this episode of Pastoralia, we're going to take on the difficult subject of how to live, work, and get along with people who don't just differ in belief from us, but may be actively working against Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church. We will cover: practicing homosexuals, people living in sin, people who are divorced or remarried, people with annulments from SSPX or the Novus Ordo, single mothers, etc. Can we have these people over for dinner? What if they are family? What happens at company picnics? We'll also tackle the difficult non-Catholic weddings/funerals quandary. You need general principles in order to make these tough decisions. We'll give them to you. Finally, we'll answer some questions from our last episode pertaining to work on Sunday and Reserved Sins during a time of interregnum. Join Stephen Heiner and Fr. Stephen McKenna as they discuss these important and extremely relevant issues. Pastoralia, Episode 3: Godparents, General Confession, & What is Permissible on Sundays

On this month's episode of Pastoralia we will be discussing several topics that face Catholics at some point in time in their lives. We will be starting with Godparenting - how many "children" should I have, who's qualified, can I ask a priest, what are the qualifications, etc. We will move into the clerical dress topic of clericals vs. cassocks - is Father a modernist for wearing clericals? We will then talk Sundays - so what "can" we do on Sundays? More importantly, what should we be doing to make the day holy? Just in time for lent, we will broach the topic of general Confession and all the particulars behind this important and necessary spiritual practice. Closing out the show, we will touch on the topic of head covering for ladies. What about veils vs. mantillas vs. napkins vs. hats - Is this a matter of taste or of church law? Join us on this episode of Pastoralia as Fr. Stephen McKenna and Stephen Heiner discuss these issues and provide further clarity to questions that never seem to get asked. Pastoralia, Episode 2: Etiquette and Comportment at Mass

Following last month's episode on proper etiquette towards clerics, this month's Pastoralia takes on etiquette and comportment at Mass. We will be discussing a wide variety of topics that at one time or another, we have all wondered to ourselves what we should be doing, such as: When should one arrive and leave for Holy Mass? What should I be wearing for Sunday Mass versus a weekday Mass? If the baby is crying, what do I do? Should there be a crying room or not? Is there a "cell phone etiquette" at Mass? Is there a "best" way to follow the Mass? Am I required to read the Mass out of the Missal? Can I pray the rosary during Mass? These and many more questions will be addressed on this month's episode. Work of Human Hands, Episode 7: Introductory Rites - The Meet and Greet

On this month's episode of Work of Human Hands, we will now transition from laying the groundwork of the New Mass by the revisers into looking forensically at the changes themselves. We begin with the Introductory Rites, and it does not take more than the sign of the cross to begin seeing the radical makeover, the prayers stripped, and the theology revolutionarily changed in the mass of Paul VI. We will begin by discussing the Novus Ordo "meet and greet" theology where we revisit the man-centered horizontal dimension of the Novus Ordo, and give typical examples of how this is employed before and during the new Mass. The incessant chatter which is a hallmark of the typical Novus Ordo where those gathered in the Novus Ordo temple spend obscene amounts of time talking before the service begins is discussed and we will point the listener to exactly why this is; It is not by accident that this feature of the Novus Ordo is ubiquitous to everyone's experience. Father will talk about the Asperges in the Novus Ordo versus the Traditional Asperges, the new Holy Water and why it is absolutely worthless, the disappearance of the Introit Antiphons, the stripping of the prayers at the foot of the altar as well as the trashing of the priestly gestures which emphasized the sinful nature of man. Speaking of sin... We will proceed into the Penitential Acts of the New Mass and show how the rite of Paul VI is one consistent denial of the existence of sin. Father will give the history of the Kyrie and why in the New Mass, the altering of the Kyrie is an implicit denial of the Blessed Trinity. We go step-by-step through the three penitential acts approved in the American Sacramentary (Acts A, B, and C) and take a deep look at each, particularly "A", which is the revised Confiteor. Lastly, Father then takes us through the Gloria and its diminished usage in the Novus Ordo Liturgical Calendar versus its plentiful usage in the Traditional calendar, as well as the revised Collects in the new rite and will show how didactic and ridiculous the revisions were to them. Work of Human Hands, Episode 6: Ready for Assembly

On this month's episode of Work of Human Hands, we will be discussing the results of the groundwork that was laid out in last episode, where we discussed the idea of theological makeover of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as an assembly. With all the groundwork in place to radically re-make the liturgy, now we focus on what those re-made aspects resulted in as it relates to the externals of both the Rite of Paul VI itself, as well as the externals of art, architecture, and furnishings in the sanctuary. Have you ever walked into a Novus Ordo church and felt like you had walked into an abandoned airplane hangar? Ever had any trouble finding the tabernacle? How about stained glass windows depicting nothing? Was it missing statuary, stations of the cross, and a sanctuary lamp? These results were not the actions of "rogue bishops" as we often are told, but were specific instructions in both Sacrosanctum Concilium, the instruction Inter Oecumenici, and specific directives from the Bishops' Councils; who were becoming drunk on their newfound deregulated powers bestowed upon them by the directives of Vatican II. We will discuss the monumental change of versus populum, or mass facing the people, compared the ancient practice of ad orientum, or facing East. Contrary to popular propaganda of the innovators, this was not a return to antiquity, but a complete break with tradition which went back to the earliest stages of the Church and was spoken of by St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas and others. Father will talk about this "primitive Church" fraud that was concocted by the innovators, namely the usual cast of characters of Anibale Bugnini, Louis Bouyer, and Josef Jungmann, but also another Roman Liturgist, Father Alessandro Pistoia. If you are wanting to know what the mechanism of action was and what edicts were issued to cause our beautiful sanctuaries to be stripped of their splendor, this episode is for you. If you are wondering how the vertical dimension of Catholic worship to God with its theocentric focus changed to a horizontal dimension of Protestant worship with its anthropocentric focus, Father will explain it. We will talk in great detail about the furnishings inside a Catholic Church versus a Novus Ordo Temple, the peculiar layout called for by Fr. Pistoia and the disturbing connection to freemasonry. Lastly, we will discuss the attempts to "spruce up" the Rite of Paul VI as we saw in the mid-2000s under Benedict XVI with his penchant for dragging the elaborate baroque mitres, the neo-Gothics statuary and jeweled chalices, the elegant fiddleback chasubles and tried to give the appearance of continuity to the Pauline Rite. Father explains why this simply does not work, and why the externals suited for the Tridentine Rite simply are alien to the Novus Ordo. Work of Human Hands, Episode 5: The Cleverness of the Revisers

On this month's episode of Work of Human Hands, we will be discussing in great detailThe Ottaviani Intervention, it's background, principal objections, effects, and key figures. Anyone familiar with the fight for Tradition will know well the name Alfredo Cardinal Ottaviani, but might not be quite familiar with his earth-shaking criticisms of the New Mass of Paul VI. When we study these writings, we see clearly that His Eminence attacked the New Mass on the level of doctrine and morals, not aesthetics and preference. We will go through one-by-one his objections and the reaction of Paul VI to them which gives one a very revealing look into Paul VI's mind on both the Council and the New Mass itself. Additionally, we will cover the topic of the revised Forward to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal which did its best to try to wash away the Protestant/Modernist essence contained in the first edition, but in doing so, proved that it was nothing more than a dirty hatchet job on true Catholic theology of the Mass itself. This episode will be jam packed with an inside look into the first "shots" fired at evil that was the New Mass and that would inspire succeeding generations to take up the fight against that which is obviously not Catholic - the New Mass. Work of Human Hands, Episode 4: The Mass As An Assembly

On this episode of Work of Human Hands, we dive into the "nuts and bolts" of the fundamental theological changes in the Novus Ordo Mass from the Traditional Latin Mass. We talk about the very foundation that was laid which has caused most of us to experience the abominations that we have had to endure at one point or another. We will cover the topics of Boyer's idea of the Mass as an "assembly" of the people of God, the destruction of the fundamental understanding of the Real Presence, the entire concept of the Priest-Presider of the assembly at the Lord's Supper instead of a Priest offering a propitiatory sacrifice to God the Father in the re-presentation the sacrifice of calvary. We will cover the notion of the "people of God" offering the Mass and not the Priest himself being the one and only person who can offer the Sacrifice of the Mass to God. We will also cover the destruction of the vertical dimension of the mass, and reducing it to the horizontalism which is so prevalent in the Novus Ordo. Finally, we will conclude with the de-regulation of the liturgy and how it has completely destroyed the universality of the faith as presented in the Novus Ordo Mass. This is an episode you will not want to miss! Work of Human Hands, Episode 3: Latin to the Vernacular - Lost in Translation

On this month's episode of Work of Human Hands, we will be continuing on to Chapter 4, which discusses what exactly was lost in the translation from the Latin to the Vernacular, and that these changes are no small matter. We will discuss the dangerous and ambiguous wording of Vatican II's document on the Sacred Liturgy (Sacrosanctum Concilium) which has allowed the novelties which are realized today. Further, we will discuss why, for 1600 years, Latin was absolutely preserved as the language of the Church and why Latin is so necessary for doctrinal integrity and orthodoxy. We will answer that age-old question for newcomers to Tradition about why the necessity of Latin in the Liturgy is so essential. We will move on to the Instruction Comme le Prévoit of 25 January 1969 and how it was the concrete foundation upon which all the distortions, omissions, and outright errors in Novus Ordo liturgy rests. Join us as author Fr. Anthony Cekada and host Justin Soeder discuss these and other topics on this chapter in this month's episode of Work of Human Hands. Work of Human Hands, Episode 2: The Creation of the New Mass

On this episode of Work of Human Hands, we will springboard from chapters 1 and 2 into chapter 3, which discusses the background and the cast of characters involved in the creation of the "New Mass." We will once again revisit the usual cast of characters: Jungmann, Boyer, and the biggest sinister name in the entire process, that of Archbishop Annibale Bugnini, a freemason and the architect of the destruction of the Roman Rite. We will tie in the building blocks of the experimental Easter Vigil of 1951, Jungmann's "heart's dream" of the reform of the mass, the 1955 Holy Week changes, simplification of rubrics, the 1958 Instructions on Sacred Music, the 1960 Code of Rubrics of John XXIII, the 1963 Vatican II document Sacrosanctum Concilium and the fateful paragraph 50, by which almost any change to the liturgy could be justified. Work of Human Hands, Episode 1: Old Mass or New Mass - What's the Fuss About?

Another in a series of new shows for Season 3 is Work of Human Hands, sponsored by Roman Catholic Archive, (http://www.romancatholicarchive.com/) a publisher of the beautiful Pre-1955 Altar Missal. Episode 1 of Work of Human Hands will start with Chapters 1 and 2 of the book, Work of Human Hands. (http://sggresources.org/products/work-of-human-hands-by-rev-anthony-cekada) In this show, we will discuss the genesis of every traditional Catholic's journey to tradition - the Mass itself. Is the question of the "new" vs. the "old" mass an important one to study? If one wishes to find Roman Catholicism, the answer is a resounding yes. In this episode, we will discuss the principle thesis of the book, that the "new mass" of Paul VI destroys Catholic doctrine in the minds of the faithful. We will also discuss the assertion of the book that the mass of Paul VI represents a rupture with the continuous liturgical tradition preceding it. We will allow Father to explain the general movement to reform the liturgy, which began in the 1940s with the appointment of Annibale Bugnini to head a Vatican commission on liturgical reforms. Join us as host Justin Soeder, and show guest/author Fr. Anthony Cekada, assistant pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church (http://sgg.org/) in Westchester, Ohio discuss the most comprehensive theological critique ever written on the subject of the Mass of Paul VI. Work of Human Hands, Episode 0: Introduction

In 2010, Father Anthony Cekada released his blockbuster masterwork Work of Human Hands: A Theological Critique of the Mass of Paul VI. Since that time, the work has been reviewed the world over and has received critical acclaim from the Catholic world as the definitive work explaining, in a methodical study, the theological break from Catholicism that is expressed in the rite of Paul VI. Father's erudition, clarity of expression, and facile wit has attracted readers of all ages to further understand this keystone topic in the history of the decline of the Catholic Church following Vatican II. This 0 episode will be a conversation between Fr. Cekada and host, Justin Soeder, introducing this new show for season III, which will be a once-a-month show in which Father and Justin discuss the book. We will proceed chapter-by-chapter, and allow Father to summarize and explain deeper to the listener his thoughts on the book. We hope this show will appeal to seasoned traditional Catholics, as well as those who are just discovering that something is wrong at their local parish and are deeply confused. It is also our hope that this show will appeal to "liturgical nerds" who have a deep understanding of things and are looking for a forensic theological study, as well as those just looking to find out what exactly is wrong with the "new rite of Mass" and why they rightly sense that something is severely wrong. Original Air Date: November 29, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, as we close out both Season 2 of Restoration Radio, and From the Pulpit. These two sermons are a font of material for meditation and reflection on these devastating subjects that we all must keep in the forefront of our minds, not just in the month of November. We close the season as we opened it, with these sermons being delivered by His Excellency, Bishop Donald Sanborn, rector of Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida. We thank all of our listeners for their kind and gracious emails throughout this season. We look forward to bringing you another season of From the Pulpit, beginning in January of 2014. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep14: Have Confidence in God

Original Air Date: November 21, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, we will be reminded to have confidence in God. Let's face it: it happens. We grow tired, we get worn down, we get tired and at times, it can seem like we are losing the battle. This is what is commonly called "battle fatigue" in war, and it is a common thing to befall Catholics who are trying to uphold, practice, defend, and spread the unchanged Catholic faith. Too often we feel as if we did not express our thoughts correctly to non-Catholics, or that we got trapped by our anti-Catholic acquaintances and lost the argument, or even worse to us, did not have an answer. In these times, we must have a rock solid trust and confidence in God, through Whom all things are possible. Today, we welcome Father Stephen McKenna to From the Pulpit. Father will explain to us how to keep our confidence in God in these trying times, and why we should not be discouraged at our shortcomings. S2, Devotions with Bishop Dolan, Ep7: Relics

Original Air Date: November 23, 2013 On this episode of Devotions with Bishop Dolan, too often we have heard the Protestant objections to the veneration of relics as something morbid and macabre, but can we defend their usage and meaning to those who object? Do we understand ourselves as Catholics why the Church uses and classifies relics? In the finale of Devotions with Bishop Dolan, we discuss holy relics: their history, their meaning, their role in the Catholic Church and their use amongst the laity. What is a relic? What are the proper ways to venerate a relic? How does one go about obtaining a relic? Why are relics on the altars during mass? In this episode of Devotions with Bishop Dolan, we will discuss these and many more aspects of the subject of devotions to relics and why the "saints amongst us" provide a proper context to the Catholic spiritual life. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan, pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio and host Justin Soeder close out this season's show with a very fitting topic for the month of November. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep13: The Evil of Venial Sin

Original Air Date: November 17, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, how often do we think of the venial sins we commit and meditate upon how even the smallest of sin offends Almighty God beyond our ability to comprehend? Are we the type of Catholic that falls into the trap and the common condition to believe that as long as we are not committing mortal sin, that we are doing just fine? Are we truly striving for Heaven, or are we simply content with trying to "make it" to purgatory? Do we use the sacrament of penance fervently and devoutly, examining our consciences and doing our best to make a good confession so as to allow the floodgates of grace to shower upon our souls the great gift of absolution so that we may advance in the spiritual life and in the love of God, or are we making lukewarm, tepid, or worse yet - bad confessions? On this week's episode of From the Pulpit, we welcome Father Charles McGuire, assistant pastor of St. Hugh of Lincoln Catholic Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as he speaks to us about these germane subjects that Catholics should never tire of hearing. S2, Flagship Show, Ep30: Ordinations and the Priesthood

Original Air Date: November 8, 2013 On a special edition of the Flagship Show, we present a live show recorded on November 6, 2013 at Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida on the occasion of the ordination to the priesthood of Father Bede Nkamuke. Stephen Heiner sat down with Father(s) Oscar Saavedra, Daniel Ahern, Stephen McKenna, and Charles McGuire to discuss the significance of a priestly ordination and to reflect on their own ordinations. In a rarely heard perspective on what it is like to go through an ordination and all the steps leading to that momentous occasion, this casual conversation with the Fathers shows the listener what exactly is going through an ordinand's mind as he approaches his ordination. Everything from lack of sleep the night before, to good natured humor about nearly falling asleep while prostrate before the tabernacle during the Litany of the Saints. Join us as the Fathers give host Stephen Heiner a first hand "insider's perspective" on the steps to the priesthood, seminary life, and what the difference is in the life of the man once he becomes a Priest on his ordination day. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep11: The Holy Rosary and All Saints

Original Air Date: October 31, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, we continue with our October themed selection of shows on the Holy Rosary. As we round out October, the month of the Holy Rosary, and move into November, we must keep in mind the reflections we have had this month on the Holy Rosary. On From the Pulpit, we have tried to provide spiritual boosters in the form of sermons to give food for thought and reflection for meditation on the Holy Rosary. On tonight's broadcast, we welcome back Bishop Donald Sanborn, rector of Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida who will give us a final sermon on the Holy Rosary and finish up with a sermon on the Feast of All Saints Day. His Excellency will, in his usual style, deliver these sermons in an easy-to-understand manner and urge us to exchange "present afflictions for future glory." The Feast of All Saints Day is a call to action as much as it is a reminder of the Church triumphant who have gone before us. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep10: How to Pray the Rosary Well

Original Air Date: October 24, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, the subject of the Holy Rosary may seem like a topic which Catholics think they know enough about, and it is a topic which they have probably had no shortage of Catechesis upon, but is it any coincidence that most Catholics admit to having trouble either praying the Rosary consistently, or praying it well? Why is this, if indeed, the Rosary is so "thoroughly understood?" The truth is that we must augment our spiritual lives with continual reminders and spiritual meditations upon our faith, and particularly the Rosary. As we wind down the month of October, the month of the Holy Rosary, this conference is timely. On tonight's episode of From the Pulpit, we welcome back Fr. Kevin Vaillancourt, who will give a spiritual conference on the importance of the Rosary and how to pray it well. In the second part of our program, Father will deliver a sermon on Mary and the interior life. We hope that this presentation of two Marian sermons will aid you in developing a burning love for Our Blessed Mother and the Holy Rosary. This Week 1. How to Pray the Rosary Well 2. S2, Devotions with Bishop Dolan, Ep6: The Holy Rosary

Original Air Date: October 19, 2013 On this episode of Devotions with Bishop Dolan, we will discuss probably the most popular devotion practiced amongst Catholics today: The Holy Rosary. Without a doubt the most well-known devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is yet impossible to have enough love for and to focus enough attention on this most powerful weapon given to the faithful from on High to grow in love of God, fight off the temptations of the devil, conquer personal sin and perservere in the Catholic faith than the Holy Rosary. The Rosary and it's beads can be seen as a chain which links the faithful on earth both physically and spiritually to Heaven. Saints have said it that the faithful recitation of the rosary is a great sign of predestination, and sinners have used it for centuries to overcome the evil of habitual sin in their lives. The history of the Catholic Church is full of miraculous events surrounding the Holy Rosary, and many plentiful conversions of souls to the Church. We could spend two lifetimes talking about this divine sacramental and never sufficiently explain it. But alas, for this month of the Holy Rosary, October, we will place it front and center on our program. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan, pastor of St. Gertude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio and host Justin Soeder spend some time discussing this most important and crucial sacramental, and why it is essential that all of us, without exception, are praying it with love and fervor every day of our lives. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep9: Life is Short, Eternity is Long

Original Air Date: October 10, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, we are going to meditate on life versus eternity. How often do we moderns think of death and eternity? Dare we ask, how often do Catholics think of death and eternity? As we live in a modern world and Western culture which does all it can to whitewash away death and eradicate the idea of eternity, we are in constant need to be reminded that we are pilgrims on this earth for what seems to us a long time, but in reality, is a very short sojourn before we must meet our Lord face-to-face for our judgment. Tonight, we will hear a sermon on life and eternity, as well as a fiery confirmation sermon on the gifts of the Holy Ghost and an adherence to the true religion that His Excellency gave almost a decade ago in 2004. We consider these two sermons to be amongst the most powerful His Excellency has ever given. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Richard Williamson, delivers two hard-hitting and down-to-earth sermons in his usual fashion from some years gone by on topics that we Catholics need to hear. While the sermons may be dated, the content is just as relevant today as it was when it was preached. This Week 1. Life is Short, Eternity is Long 2. Confirmation Sermon from 2004. S2, Flagship Show, Ep29: Malachi Martin

Original Air Date: October 5, 2013 On this episode of the Flagship Show, we will discuss another icon in traditional Catholic lore: Malachi Martin. Malachi Brendan Martin, S.J. (1921-1999): one of the most endearing yet controversial figures in the traditional Catholic world. Roman Catholic Jesuit priest, Vatican insider, exorcist, professor, curial advisor, author, public speaker and giant personality - Martin was a character whose presence seemed to be always in the know, yet his history is mired by hearsay, rumor and allegation. Are those rumors true? What are we to make of this man? The author of many books on the crisis in the Catholic Church following the Second Vatican Council, Martin's books have been instrumental in at least some way of shaping the "Church-view" in the minds of traditional Catholics. Just who was Malachi Martin? What is his legacy as a Priest and man who bridged the gap of time between pre and post Vatican II? What was his motivation to be such an outspoken critic of the Novus Ordo hierarchy, even some whom he called out as Satanists? As one of the few human beings who have claimed to have laid eyes on the Third Secret of Fatima, Malachi Martin is a name who cannot be ignored and with whom most traditional Catholics are at least tacitly familiar. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio is joined by hosts Justin Soeder and Nicholas Wansbutter to discuss this most notable figure and the criticisms which accompany him. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep8: The Catholic Church is the One True Church

Original Air Date: October 3, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, we will hear a conference laying out clearly what the Catholic Church is: the One True Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. No doubt that this phrase is not uttered nearly enough in today's world by those who proclaim to be Roman Catholic. It's a phrase that since the disaster of Vatican II, has been mothballed for the idea that all "believing Christians" are members of the "Church of Christ." Are we as Catholics able to explain exactly why the Catholic Church is indeed the one true Church, Divinely instituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ? If we are not able to definitively explain this to our non-Catholic counterparts, then we can explain nothing as to why the truths of the faith must be held for salvation. We will also hear a timely sermon, as we begin the month of October - The month of the Holy Rosary - on why it is so important that we keep our daily devotion to the Mother of God through Her gift to us of the Holy Rosary. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan, pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Westchester, Ohio, gives a conference on this very topic. In his usual fashion, His Excellency serenely explains why the Catholic Faith will stand the test of time, and why indeed, it is the one true Church. This Week 1. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep7: Why Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Original Air Date: September 26, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, we pull our title from that famous statement of Rodney King: "Why can't we all just get along?" A tendency that many in the traditional Catholic world have today is to try to reconcile the many differences in those who attend the Latin Mass at the various trad outposts -- the diocesan indult (The "Motu Mass"), the SSPX, the FSSP, Sedevacantists, and Independents -- as really being no different and wondering why we all just can't see eye-to-eye. While the faith is certainly and unarguable at the core of us all, there are valid and legitimate differences on very important issues that separate us; namely - doctrine. This is no small matter and it bears listening to a very concise sermon on why things are how they are and why doctrine cannot be sacrificed for the sake of "getting along." Yes, let us all agree, but let us agree on doctrine first! Join us as Father Anthony Cekada lays out in an intelligent, charitable, and yet non-compromising way the reasons for the various divisions in the traditional Catholic world - both amongst the clergy and the laity. This Week: 1. Why Can't We All Just Get Along? 2. Bickering Priests is Nothing New. S2, From the Pulpit, Ep6: Are You “Non-Mainstream?”

Original Air Date: September 19, 2013 On this episode of From the Pulpit, as Catholics who take the entirety of the faith seriously, it's easy at times to see how we are walking in a different direction from which the world is heading. For centuries, the Catholic Church was the worldwide vanguard against the tide of immorality, paganism, hedonism, communism, socialism and plenty of other isms that threatened to crash down upon the faithful. Sadly, too many Catholics have fallen asleep to the mainstream sirens song of the modern media and the modern culture. Catholics should prepare themselves for persecution as the unrestrained forces of anti-Catholicism continue to advance and pick up momentum. Join us as Father Kevin Vaillancourt vehemently pleads in two sermons with the faithful to wake up. Father explains the reality of the times in which we find ourselves and what we as Catholics must do to endure it, keeping the faith intact. 1. Are You Non-Mainstream? Prepare for Persecution 2. S2, Devotions with Bishop Dolan, Ep5: The Litanies

Original Air Date: September 14, 2013 Litanies, prayers of petition with are integral to the prayer life of any practicing Catholic, will be the focus of this show. Deriving from the Greek word litenia, which means supplication, the Church makes great use of these prayers during many of its ceremonies and processions. Why is that? When and why did the Church begin using litanies and from where does this practice come? We'll explore the major litanies and how they can be put into practice in the day-to-day life of Catholics. We'll explore the devotional aspect of the litanies and what the significance of each is. Join us as His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan, pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio and host Justin Soeder discuss this pious Catholic devotion, and hopefully, shed some insight into how to make this a permanent part of one's devotional practices in the spiritual life.
