Ep 78Show #78: Dr Terry Wahls on MS, Autoimmune and the Wahls protocol

This week I have the pleasure of talking to Dr Terry Wahls about her journey towards her diagnosing of progressive MS, how she initially treated it, when she realised things needed to change and how she then went onto become one of the leading researchers on how diet and lifestyle can impact neurological diseases and other diseases. We discuss the holes in pharmaceutical based approach, autoimmune diseases and how the research is working to understand them better, and the aspects of quietening (not curing!) one's illness that can't be eaten from a plate - it's SO much more than food! The chat is so full of nuggets of wisdom for life whether you're affected by a chronic illness, supporting someone who is affected or simply wanting to lead your best life. S1 Ep 77Show #77: Alexx talks about moving from her water damaged building & starts her first low tox trial!

This week I'm sharing a bit about what I did in my journey to finally realising my building was water damaged and moving home, as well as some of the decisions we made around leaving things behind, replacing them and NOT replacing anything that wasn't essential. I share how I cleaned the lego, the clothes and the furniture that we were taking and what sorts of products I used. At the end of the show I launch my first month long trial… The Low Tox life is always about gently building awareness around an aspect of life and stepping up where we can once we KNOW. This trial speaks to my desire to keep things spacious and light at home after all the decluttering as well as saving money to recover from the massive expenditure of couch and beds and moving and I'll be asking myself this: Is it useful, beautiful or necessary? Ep 76Show #76: Brodie Welch on life changing habit making

In this week's chat I bring back the wonderful practitioner Brodie Welch, L.ac and self care strategist. Many of you have gone on to do Brodie's courses after hearing her on the show so it's exciting to bring her back for you. In the past she's discussed some amazing nuggets of wisdom and practical advice from the Chinese medicine realm, such as the ‘time' that each organ thrives and how to work with the rhythm of our bodies to optimise health. In the past couple of years, she has been running habit breaking/forming circles with great success helping people really step into the habits that lay the foundation for the lives they want to live and we have a fascinating discussion around habits, goals and what some of the factors are for making or breaking them. Ep 75Show #75: Cate Burton on wax and candles - the good, the bad the ugly.

There's a candle burning everywhere these days but at what cost to us and to our planet? In chatting to Cate Burton about all things wax, candle manufacturing and the beauty of the bee, we break open the candle industry, exposing even ‘natural' candles for what they often truly are in this bumper hour long conversation - and trust me you'll want to listen until the end. Cate is riveting, well researched and absolutely passionate about candle making and I am super excited to share that passion with you in this week's show. If you've been buying candles, tune in, get informed and buy RIGHT - for people and planet. The show notes and our show supporter's offer can be found at www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast  as always. Ep 74Show #74: The power of Hypnotherapy with Dr Karen Phillip

Dr Karen Phillip says “It's one thing to know what you want, but another to know how to get it, let me help you achieve your goals”. She is a Counselling Psychotherapist; Clinical Hypnotherapist and the Parenting and Relationship Expert and of course, Hypnotherapist. In our chat we dive into Hypnotherapy as a tool for breaking patterns, forming better habits, losing weight, reducing stress, anxiety or pain and much more - we even discuss hypnotherapy for pets!  It's a brilliant chat and you're now even able to do hypnotherapy from the comfort of your own home, virtually thanks to her new site. If you've been curious but wondered how it works, why it works, the science behind the way a session is put together, then this will be a good one for you - I really enjoyed chatting to Karen and learning a few nerdy things about hypnotherapy I did not know. Her sessions are great and we've done a couple in the office together - I told her if we were able to achieve a deep relaxed state with the leaf blower going in the back ground next door, then she is truly gifted!  For the show notes and our partner offer, you can head to www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 73Show #73: Rob McGavin on Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the Cobram Estate story

In this show I, your host Alexx Stuart, chat to Rob McGavin, who once a humble farmer with an idea do grow olives and produce oil, is now the largest supplier of Olive oil to Australia as well as an internationally award winning olive oil producer, supplying globally. We discuss fear around olive oil for cooking, quality and the ramifications of common practice of ‘mystery blends' on the market saying that they're olive oils, health benefits of good olive oil and he shares tales from the groves and growing the Cobram Estate business. He's an inspiring man, passionate about olive oil and thrilled that the much maligned olive oil when it comes to cooking, is taking back its rightful place as one of the best all rounders you can have in your kitchen. Enjoy his infectious enthusiasm as much as I have done in chatting to him for the show and visiting the Cobram Estate groves last year for an unforgettable trip.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 72Show #72: Brooklyn Fashion designer Carol Miltimore's ethical fashion brand journey

I came across Carol Miltimore's work when I was adding to our resources for the Go Low Tox e course's clothing day. She's a Brooklyn based designer who spends a fair part of the year in India - her second home. I thought it would be great to chat to Carol about her journey which wasn't always centred around ethics and sustainability, working for some big brands and mainstream fast fashion in her earlier training. She talks about the challenges, the true cost of fashion if you want it to be ethical and sustainable, and what drives her artistically and environmentally in her work. If you've been curious about moving towards more sustainable choices it's a great show to understand in great detail what goes on behind the scenes from the farming to the dyes, the environment to the manufacturing and then trying to actually cut a break out there and thrive in the very fast page, noisy fashion world of today while staying true to your design values. Ep 71Show #71: Behind the scenes of regenerative Roebuck Farm with Jodi Roebuck

Previous guest Nick from Milkwood permaculture introduced me to Jodi's work suggesting he'd be great to have on the show. After checking out Roebuck farm and being instantly inspired by Jodi's work and passion for farm design and restorative farming education, then yes: Of course, I had to have him on the show. This show is wonderful for farmers wanting to explore doing things differently and not needing pesticide, as well as vegetarians or vegans who want to better understand that some of our friends who are omnivores and purchasing from these sorts of farms, aren't actually negatively impacting climate change, and omnivores are going to feel a deeper reasoning for choosing ethical, regenerative farmed options, eating less meat and trading up to the good stuff - good for people, animals and planet!Enjoy the show and connect with more details of Jodi's work and his favourite resources, as well as the sponsor offer over at lowtoxlife.com/podcast where you'll find today's show notes. S1 Ep 70Show #70: A Life Less Stressed with Dr Ron Ehrlich

My dentist is a legend. He happens to also be the author of his new book “A Life Less Stressed” and boy is it a cracking and important read. Discussing disease, inflammation, the nervous system, homeostasis, carbs, precautionary principle, allergy, pain, fats and proteins it's a comprehensive look at how we can use certain things to our advantage, how not all stress is ‘bad' and how to identify effectively what needs to fall away.Ron talks today with me about how this book came to be, gets deeply personal about his cancer journey, discusses the key principles of the book mentioned above and how to actually succeed at minimising stressors. We also tangent into mercury amalgam fillings and their removal - a question I get asked all the time and - well, frankly, not being an experienced dentist or a dentist at all for that matter - I felt it was the perfect opportunity to seize the day and ask Ron all about it.For the show notes, pop to lowtoxlife.com/podcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 68Show #68: Tidying up with Konmari method trained Sally Flower

Let me start by saying this is not an evil ploy to make you have a new year's resolution about tidying and decluttering more this year.No. I was inspired to start the year off with Sally because early January is often a time we have more time to focus inwards, at home, no rush of school or offices yet, no inbox full with demands… And many of us live in spaces we're not entirely happy with, whether it's how they look or feel in general, or whether it's an “I've got too much stuff” feeling.Sally Flower was the first Aussie to train with Marie Kondo herself in the USA, and she brings us her best strategies for falling in love with your home, by falling in love with a mindful tidy. It's a great show, super practical and I hope you enjoy it! I know I'm feeling more tidy already. For the show notes head to lowtoxlife.com/podcast.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Hosted on Acast. Ep 67Show #67: Finding Slow with Brooke McAlary from Slow your Home

This week as you can see we have two shows! Reason being I've brought the Monday's show that would have aired Christmas day forward a few days - because, well it's going to help us with the days ahead and the week that heads us into a new year.  Brooke McAlary has authored two booked that help us navigate a world that feels more like one that ‘fits' us, by slowing down, simplifying, getting in touch with our values and ‘why'. In today's show we discuss:  The Stress Spiral - we discuss how we both navigate it, exit it before it negatively impacts us and feel stress without it necessarily being a negative.  How to create a simpler, slower year in 2018 and why.  How writing your eulogy can help you live the year and life you want.  Brooke's second book SLOW: Some highlights and insights from the book (and it's an excellent book indeed!) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 66Show #66: Natural Contraception with Naturopath Francesca Naish

Oh. My. Gosh. I've found us an extraordinary practitioner - a woman who founded the first holistic health centre in Sydney in the mid 70s in Paddington who for decades has been building her expertise in the area of women's health, fertility for couples and natural contraception. In this show we discuss the pill and other modern contraception methods, the cons, the deficiencies or body imbalances they breed and how to successfully come off them. Then, Francesca takes us through how we can get to know our bodies' rhythms and temperature variations, to have as successful a time preventing conception naturally as using any other main form of contraception - It's a JAM PACKED episode for women's reproductive health and empowerment, that's all I'm going to say. Ep 65Show #65: Energetic healing with Tracey McMullen

This one is SO interesting this week! In this show I chat to an amazing woman and therapist, Tracey McMullen. I went to have a session with her after someone I knew had been to Tracey as a part of her fertility boosting journey.Well, I can honestly say that I'm not too sure how she does it, but Tracey has a gift - the way she speaks, the gentle way she asks questions, looking for the way you answer to then dig a little deeper where you need to go and then way she helps you find a release from things buried sometimes further than you're able to get to them to release yourself - It was as woo woo intangible as I've got in learning about a therapy, yet I've been back twice since and she's nailed a couple of things better than anyone I've seen so far on a couple of issues. In this episode, Tracey explains beautifully what energetic healing is and how it can benefit us all. I'm being sufficiently vague in describing what we talk about on this show,  because frankly I'm still trying to get my head around it myself, so if you want to delve into energetics of the body then this is a show you'll find fascinating. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 63Show #63: Compassionate communication with Paulette Bray-Narai

In this week's show, I chat to Paulette Bray Narai who's a specialist on Non Violent Communication - it's one of the calmest chats I've ever had on the show, her energy is so darn serene! If you've ever felt tensions in relationships, with partners, bosses, your kids… I pick Paulette's brain on helping us find the most practical and useful of tips on how to deal with those moments in life.I was overjoyed to have her on the show because toxic energy, pent up stress from negative interactions is every bit as damaging to our health as what we eat or use on our skin, and the low tox mind is well worth cultivating, so I hope you enjoy what is the kind of show where you can literally start putting into practice the wisdom TODAY.Please head to the show notes to check out our wonderful sponsor offers and highlights from today's show here www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 61Show #61: Plant Food Inspiration with Maeve O'Meara's SBS series EARTH

There are some Food series that touch your life profoundly - one such show for me was a series of Food Safari where Maeve toured through France with Guillaume Brahimi. Being half French there was obvious cultural appeal but there was something in the way that show was put together - one of the great story telling, discovery focused food series around. The new series EARTH, succeeds last year's “FIRE” series, this time focusing on the magic of plant based foods and how so many cultures in the world have treasure trove of inspiration when it comes to including more plant foods in your diet. It was such a pleasure to discuss the current series, available on SBS with presenter Maeve - hearing her share people's stories and talk about flavours and certain vegetables - you just feel like heading to a produce market instantly to inspire yourself for tonight's meal. Ep 59Show #59: Pukka Tea & Herbal Magic with Sebastien Pole

I've loved Pukka teas ever since I came across them. Their packaging, their combinations of herbs, and later learning about their pass for the growth of organic agriculture and helping farms create viable businesses as their suppliers - needless to say it all sang to me. I knew I wanted to take a look into how it all began and discuss the power of the humble herbal tea, with co-founder Sebastian Pole.Recently I was also interested to learn of Unilever acquiring them and then seeing a few ‘hate threads' online, threatening abandonment, I thought: No. This is a chance for us to hear from the horse's mouth about what is taken into consideration in such an offer. The main body of this brilliant chat with Sebastian, however, goes way beyond that recent event, and we look at how it all began, how the blends are created and what they want to achieve into the future. We even talk “What are your desert Island tea choices?” Big hearted business. Big goals. Change on a huge scale. Ep 57Show #57: Go Low Tox stories

Every day people decide one day to explore what it might mean to ditch the nasty stuff and lower their toxic load across day to day life.I started 12 years ago and it was hard to find all the information and much of what was to be swapped didn't perform well and felt like a poor cousin to my high performance ‘convenient' cleaners and personal care products. Over time, environmental consciousness has exploded and so many beautiful businesses are producing low tox everything from mattresses to moisturiser, coffee cups to sunscreen and it's getting what seems to be easier - until you realise that labelling loopholes allow for a lot of grey area and high tox ingredients, to be inside tubes and pots that say “Natural” and “organic” on the front.I created GO Low Tox to be a global resource to learn the low tox vocabulary, get across the latest research and feel that you know exactly what to swap to and where to get it and in today's show, I wanted to invite a few past students to chat about how their journey has been in going low tox - the stress and confusion turned empowerment when like minded people get together and learn and grow together.I hope you enjoy their stories.Every day people are going to change the world and these are three short stories to prove it.Show notes and sponsor offers can be found in the show notes https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 55Show #55: Chronic Inflammation Response Syndrome with Dr Sandeep Gupta

Could you be experiencing chronic inflammation? Do you feel like your symptoms add up to being any number of possible ‘things' but also unable to be pinned down as ONE thing? Or that you treat things like brain fog, sore joints, muscle weakness, funny heart beat or adrenals and still don't feel any better? Enter a real possibility of CIRS - Chronic Inflammation Response Syndrome. Up to 38 symptoms are commonly experienced.A lot of you know the past year, I experienced an inflammation cascade that I'm still recovering from. For a few months there it was extremely scary until I stopped focusing on treating symptoms and trying to blow the smoke away, and started investigating what started the whole fire in the first place. While the catalyst was surgery and being ‘down' from undergoing anaesthetic having a poor detox function; while I was down, inflammation took hold from every possible angle and with the testing available in Australia from Dr Shoemaker's globally acclaimed healing protocol for mold illness, it looks to be mold and possibly confections.Someone I found along my way in my research and whose wonderful online course I've done (discount for you guys in the show notes) is the wonderful and down to earth Dr Sandeep Gupta. Dr Gupta's work as a Dr Shoemaker old protocol trained physician is wonderful and he always explains things in such a simple way.I hope this episode helps anyone out there who's perhaps been suffering a long time and not explored chronic inflammation as a possible diagnosis - whether it's from mold or other things such as parasites / Lyme disease / Epstein Barr. This information was truly life changing for me, and I urge you to share this episode with anyone you know who's chronically unwell with bizarre symptoms that don't make sense. Ep 54Show #54: You did WHAT for your health? With Guy Lawrence

My guest this week is Guy, who I met when we were both speaking at a conference interstate. Guy, who's been in fitness and health for many years, having founded 180 Nutrition, is not just about the high quality protein… Turns out he has explored some seriously challenging ideas when it comes to optimising the body and mind, including ayahuasca (which comes with warnings in the show notes), the WIM HOF method where you explore the power of thermogenesis (freezing cold) on the body and mind, and a retreat with Dr Joe Dispenza, famous for his work in helping us rewire our brains. If way out retreats are your thing, you'll get an insight into what goes on and if they're not - it's so interesting to hear about people's experiences of such things, regardless. Enjoy the show, and for show notes with all your resources and sponsor offer details, head to https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. If there's anyone who can make you feel at peace with your food choices and get excited to get into the kitchen, it's Jude. She tells the story of her fashion days and how food came to call her to change careers, and shares so much wonderful wisdom to direct us away from the extreme options presented so often in media and online, bringing to the fore the emphasis of pleasure and deliciousness around food and how confidence in the kitchen means everything. There's so much covered I couldn't possibly put it all here, so you're just going to have to listen, m-kay? Enjoy the show, and for show notes with all your resources and sponsor offer details, head to https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Show #52: Electro Magnetic Radiation with Building biologist Nicole Bijlsma

There are so many stores behind why people pivot on their careers. Nicole's is one of the most poignant I've ever heard. From being a clinical naturopath she moved into researching all that she could on Building Biology - how our homes can help or hinder our health, becoming a pioneer for education in this space with globally recognised certified Advanced diploma certified courses allowing many to be trained in identifying homes for systemic dampness, mould, EMR levels, dirty electricity and more.In today's chat we focus on a topic that causes people great confusion: Electromagnetic radiation / electromagnetic fields. By the end of today's show, you'll feel more empowered than confused; more able to put great and simple things in place, than continuing to wonder how you can do anything in our built, tech-driven world.Enjoy the show, and for show notes with all your resources and sponsor offer details, head to https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Show #51: Food Confusion Clarity with Cyndi O’Meara

One day I was researching rice bran oil for our Low tox community. I didn't have to look far when I found Cyndi's research on it and over the years since, Cyndi and I have met and exchanged like minded chats on food industry motive, back door deals done to skew our understanding of what makes a healthy food mix, and I knew there was no one better to invite onto the show to share our listener's biggest food confusion issues today. We talk about fats, sugars, wheat, meat and more in a serious debunking session to leave you clearer on what ‘eating healthy' really means. Cyndi is a nutritionist on a mission to help people live healthy minus stress and shame.Life's too short for all that, so enjoy the show and bring your note pad - it's one of those! Show #50 A look back at Year 1 of the Low Tox Life

In this show, I wanted to reflect on our first 50 shows. This is going to be a great show for newer listeners to get an idea of which shows they might want to prioritise when back cataloguing, but it's also a chance for us all to reflect on the incredible knowledge that's been imparted with us over this first year, and perhaps revisit some of the shows that are just so packed with information that - if you're anything like me - you want to make sure you didn't miss anything.Enjoy the show as I talk about my favourite aspects of each show and celebrate the collective knowledge shared so far.Thank you so much for joining me so far and see you in September after a month's break in August! Alexx.Resources:For the show notes and more information on the Real Food Rockstars e course I mention: Head to the show notes https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Show #48: How food SHOULD be with scientist Fran Murrell

Fran Murrell was just going about her science degree in the mid 90s, a new mum horrified by pesticide use and its implications concerning our health in the long term. She decided to do a thesis on how these new GM crops back then, were going to be these amazing developments that would allow farmers to use minimal to no pesticides. What she found in her research was quite the opposite and in today's episode, we share her deeply personal realisation as both a scientist / researcher and a parent as well as a beautiful chat FULL of nuggets on just how simple it is to change the world from our homes and daily choices. You are guaranteed to leave this week's show feeling a whole lot more positive about the future and I hope you enjoy the chat as much as I did.For the show notes and further resources, head here: https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Show #47: A practical guide to getting more organics in your mix, with Alexx Stuart

A solo show today to follow on from last week's sobering exposé by Profession Michael Antoniou on pesticides, namely those containing glyphosate with his ground breaking lab study on low level exposure and the damaging effects.Rather than freak out today's show helps you do the opposite. Freaking out is SO not the vibe of living low tox, where KEY is positive, delicious change rather than being paralysed fear, doom and gloom!  So, stop feeling guilty about what you've done up until now, start feeling excited about what you can change and let's talk about how to incorporate more organic foods into your day today in such a way that won't break the bank and will lower toxic load in an impactful way. Sound good? Show #46: Genes, GMOs and Glyphosate with Professor Michael Antoniou.

We hear about genetically modified foods now and then in the media but do we REALLY hear unbiased information, whether it be farmers that use them or manufacturers that tout their ability to ‘feed the world' or whether it be on blogs and natural health click bait sites warning that they are the root of all evil, bringing the world closer to impending doom?Alexx met Professor Antoniou at his King's College London lab at Guy's hospital (yes that's the kind of visit Alexx likes to make on holidays overseas!) to see first hand the test he was carrying out on what the effects of low level every day residue of pesticide, specifically glyphosate used heavily in GMO agriculture, might do to the body. They talk about that study and much more in this not to be missed episode for anyone seeking clarity and a deeper understanding of the GM concerns and effects of glyphosate based herbicides. For the show notes and his published studies, head to https://www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
