During that time, he's lived and worked in seven major financial centres from London to Sydney, building the kind of network that many others can only dream about. He began his career in the Japanese equity market in the mid-1980s before a three-year posting to Tokyo ensured he had a ringside seat as the twin bubbles in equities and real estate burst simultaneously and spectacularly at the end of 1989. After a short stint back in London, Grant relocated once again, this time to New York, where he spent 7 years. Subsequent postings have taken him to Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, and the Cayman Islands. Currently, he is a senior advisor to Matterhorn Asset Management AG in Switzerland, and a portfolio and strategy advisor to Vulpes Investment Management in Singapore. Back in 2014, Grant's ambition to bring the most intelligent, engaging, and original people in finance to a wider audience led him to co-found Real Vision, an on-demand internet-based financial media platform. Grant's twin Real Vision interview series, In Conversation With… and On The Road raised the bar for financial content – engaging and educating viewers in equal measure and helping them learn the secrets behind a group of extraordinary investors' success. Long before Real Vision, however, Grant was guiding people around the fringes of finance with his regular newsletter, Things That Make You Go Hmmm…, a publication which, from humble beginnings as a daily note to a few friends and colleagues, has grown into one of the most widely-read financial publications in the world. __ Host: Ben Mumme Twitter: https://twitter.com/mumme_ben Medium: https://benjaminmumme.medium.com/ YouTube: https://bit.ly/3fAcFrt Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3DBkSWv Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/livingyourg... __ Guest: Grant Williams Website: https://www.grant-williams.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ttmygh

#94 Ben Mumme: Five Writing Prompts For a Transformative New Year
Ben Mumme is the founder, curator, and podcast host of the Living Your Greatness Podcast. The purpose of the podcast is to inspire millions of people across the world to achieve greatness and enhance their overall personal well-being. Living Your Greatness is becoming the go-to resource that CEOs, elite athletes, professional coaches, and entrepreneurs rely on to upgrade themselves. The podcast helps you master the best of what other people have already figured out. __ When the new year comes around the corner, we are more inclined to ask ourselves and others about our new year resolutions, instead of questioning "what lessons did we learn this year?" In other words, we prospect before even introspecting. Pragmatic prospection is the process through which one thinks about the future by imagining what one wants to happen, while also considering the obstacles, so as to map out and guide the actions that would bring about desirable outcomes. The problem is, however, that when we prospect before first introspecting—when we plan for what's ahead before reflecting on what has already passed—we're doing ourselves enormous disfavor by not allowing ourselves to process our emotions and thoughts. Introspection is a process that involves looking inward to examine one's own thoughts and emotions. Also known as experimental self-observation, the term was used to describe a research technique that was first developed by psychologist Wilhelm Wundt, which involved training people to carefully and objectively analyze the content of their own thoughts. That's why, the best thing you can do for yourself around this time of the year is to create a comfortable space to sit in, put on some relaxing music, prepare yourself a hot beverage, let go of all expectations, and journal through some introspective and prospective questions. The idea is simple: Prepare and plan for the year ahead by first working through and assessing the one that just passed. By reflecting on the year, you surface your successes, sorrows, and any behavioral and thought patterns that hold you back. By planning for the year ahead, you step into it with full confidence, along with the knowledge that you're much more intentional about your life and in control of it. #93 Ben Mumme: The Science Behind Value-Based Goal-Setting
__ In this episode, Ben explains the science behind value-based goal setting. What if we based our new year's resolutions not only on what we want but on why we want it? What if we let go of our perception of societal expectations and made our New Year's resolutions based on what really makes us tick - our values? Research suggests that doing so will not only make our resolutions more successful, it'll boost our health and well-being. Science has something interesting to say about values and successful goal-setting. Value-based goals are not only more successful than those created to meet extrinsic societal expectations, but they're also healthier. We attach meaning and significance to pursuing value-based goals, which give our lives a sense of purpose. Increasing the feeling of purpose in your life through activities like value-based goal-setting can increase your resilience to stress, promote healthy behaviours, and improve mood and overall well-being. In other words, linking a resolution to a value connects it with purpose, makes it more likely to change the way your brain is wired and will have subsequent sustainable and consistent effects on your behaviour. Two steps for creating value-based goals: Catalogue your values Link your values to your goals Value-based goal setting infuses your day-to-day activities and behaviour with your "why" or the things that make you tick. Positive health benefits aside, nothing is more motivating and empowering than fuelling your goals with your "why." When you find your "why", embrace it. Live it. Be it. __ Host: Ben Mumme Twitter Medium YouTube Instagram __ Let's Connect👇 Drop a review and me know what's resonating with you about the show! #91 Ben Mumme: Making Your Fitness Routine a Sustainable Habit
__ In this episode, Ben explains how to make your fitness routine a sustainable habit. One of the biggest barriers to starting or maintaining a fitness routine has to do with fitness resistance; the reluctance to welcome fitness into our lives in the form of a sustainable fitness routine. It's human nature to simply revert to the comfort of our existing routines. This means making fitness a sustainable habit requires a bit of conscious effort and some willingness. The first thing to note is that if you're going to start an exercise habit, an incremental approach works better than going big right out of the gate. One or two workouts that leave you feeling exhausted and sore aren't enough to achieve your goal, and they might just discourage you from getting into a fitness routine. Instead, to fall in love with fitness you will need to create a habit loop. Any habit is essentially a feedback loop of four phases: cue (make it obvious), craving (make it attractive), response (make it easy), and reward (make it satisfying). The goal is to train your brain to crave the reward and therefore, the new fitness routine. When you stick with this routine, over time you will create great habits and sustainable results. When it comes to building a long-term fitness habit, there are many ways to increase your chances of success. Ben talks about nine ways that you can create a fitness routine that you will love to do: Set a realistic starting point Build your workouts into other routines Understand your why Create SMART goals Set short-term tasks Keep a workout journal Expect setbacks Keep yourself accountable Find a workout you love __ Host: Ben Mumme Twitter Medium YouTube Instagram __ Let's Connect👇 Drop a review and me know what's resonating with you about the show! As children are naturally curious, George explains how we can respond to a child's natural curiosity and help empower them to wonder, explore and become forward-thinking leaders.
