Jami was previously known for her award-winning photography and her involvement in raising service dogs for the handicapped for Canine Companions for Independence. Direct Download Angie's Gardens, headquartered in Texas, was born from the founder's love of helping others. She first learned the power of herbs when her husband suggested their daughter drink some lemon balm tea with honey to feel better from a possible oncoming cold. She drank the tea and felt better. When the goat becomes tangled to a tree and you need to untangle her, never place your finger between the tree and her chain. I thought I had crushed the bone… When leading the goat on her chain in the morning to her first grazing spot, hold the chain with both hands and lean way back as if you are on a ski rope tow. Each morning, when letting the goat out of her barn, you open the door then wait until she brings her head back before skiing to her first browsing spot. Similarly - release the hook with her tether from the barn gate BEFORE you open the latch to the gate. In the evening when moving the goat to her barn, all you need to do is un hook it from her tether location and she will drag the chain back with her - holding the chain while she does this is a bad idea. Each day in the morning, you must wait for the obligatory peach tree leaf munching before leading her to her first grazing location. Then walk he from this location to that asking her which plants she prefers to eat today. The more trees there are near the tether location, the more times she will wind and loop the chain around things in a crazy way. Similarly - the harder the terrain is that she is on, the more winding up of the chain she will do in order to improve the chances of pulling you off your feet when you come to move her. Don't tether the goat where she can get up on things - particularly the poultry corn barrel. Make it a great week! GUYS! Most people probably don't consider me typical anything. Farming and homesteading were not something I ever planned to do. But I am now glad I get to do them. Growing up, I enjoyed a varied diet of video games, cartons, and processed foods. Dental decay, seasonal allergies, and constant sickness were the inevitable result – a result that doctors and other denied was connected with my family's food and lifestyle choices. In my early 20s, I was waylaid by duodenal ulcers, my body's final warning that some things were dreadfully awry. Thankfully, I listened. Over the course of a year, my fiancee (now wife) Jessica and I completely changed our understanding of food – what is food? How should it be raised? How should it be prepared? S4 Ep 220Episode 220: Lifestyle Freedom and Liberty with Jack Spirko
EToday we speak with one of my favorite people, a mentor and friend, Jack Spirko from The Survival Podcast about lifestyle freedom and liberty. I first found Jack years ago while canning tomatoes. I wanted something to listen to while doing this messy job that would not require me to restart the next podcast. I searched for a podcast on wild edible plants and found Jack and I was hooked. Since that time, I have watched in amazement as he manages to mentor hundreds of thousands of people as they develop lifestyle freedom, survival skills, cooking techniques and more - but we will dive more into that later in the show. Show Resources The Survival Podcast Live tracking for Kurt DarkHorse450 Fundraiser Main content of the show Jack Spirko is founder and podcaster at The Survival Podcast, a daily show about self sufficiency and self reliance in the modern world. He "conceived and created this podcast because over the years I have come to realize how fragile the human condition and the United States economy really is." But the podcast is much more than a "prepper show." Jack focuses on helping people develop stability, prosperity and lifestyle freedom into their lives. Before launching the podcast he had successful careers in sales and marketing, and business development. When Jack drops a piece of business advice, it is usually spot on. S4 Ep 219Episode 219: Flight for Combat Veterans
Today we have a quick update conversation with Kurt Dugger about his Dark Horse 450 flight (that is 450 miles) with a paramotor across Tennessee. Because the weather is so very important to flight success, Kurt has decided to start tonight in the hopes of beating the rains that may come toward the end of the weekend. This flight is to raise awareness of the issues facing combat veterans when they return and face the challenge of reintegrating into normal society and he is hoping to raise $6,000 for the Dark Horse Lodge so that they can get closer to completing their retreat for veterans and begin the hosting process. Direct Download When asked why the retreat is so important this morning in the Mewe chat, I handed the mic over to the Tactical Redneck because he is a returning combat veteran himself and know much more about this topic than I do. Here is what he said: "Most vets feel alone because they can't talk to other people about what they've been through. Speaking from experience, it's nowhere near as hard to talk to another vet." Then I was talking to Jack Spirko from The Survival Podcast this morning and he explained that his three years in the Army were all overseas so he found it really hard to do simple things, like stand in line at the grocery store because he had gotten very used to being mostly on very small and remote military bases. And as he tried harder to reintegrate, simple things began to make him feel angry so he took a long walk on the Appalachian Trail to get his mind back into the right place to be back home with his loved ones. Places like the Dark Horse Lodge are one way that space can be made for our returning combat veterans and that is why I made a donation to them today in support of both the lodge and of Kurt's flight (which is not costing the Lodge money). Would you like to help too? Here are some ways to do so: Follow Kurt's progress and meet him at one of his stops. He could use encouragement, and probably food and beverage though his wife is meeting him along the way as well. Flight Plan Live tracking (When a link is available I will put it here) Offer Lodging if he ends up overnighting near you (See resources above to track Kurt!) So I cashed out my retirement, bought some land, build a small house and lived for a few years growing all my own food taking odd jobs. I started building alternative buildings and had the opportunity to build every type of alternative structure. Eventually I found AirCrete, or cellular cement as it's know in the industry. I fell in love with it. AirCrete let's a comfortable structure be build in any climate affordably with the enormous amounts of labors required by typical alternative construction or expensive machines. Today I have something that is near and dear to my heart: I have been seeking something to support to help combat veterans who come home carrying a heavy burden.
