Out of Site: Without Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey steps up and leads Sixers to a win over the Wizards. With Dave Early.
On an all-new episode of the “Out of Sight” podcast, hosted by Adio Royster and Dave Early, the pair talk about the Sixers’ 118-111 win over the Washington Wizards. They didn’t have Joel Embiid, but it wasn’t a problem. Adio and Dave talk about how good Tyrese Maxey and James Harden looked leading the charge. And how there’s a general faith in this team that wasn’t there in prior seasons to win these no-Joel games. We give some credit to P.J. Tucker, Georges Niang, and Montrezl Harrell for that. And De’Anthony Melton played his best offensive game in the uniform, looking comfortable as a two-way player. Don’t forget to rate, review and subscribe to the Liberty Ballers podcast network. Talking About Podcast: Tyrese Maxey drops a career-high, leads the Joel Embiid-less Sixers to a big win over the Toronto Raptors. With Dave Early.
In this Talking About Podcast episode, Sean Kennedy and Dave Early discuss Maxey’s career-high 44 points. The 21-year-old shot 15-of-20 from the field, including 9-of-12 from three-point range, going a perfect 10-of-10 from the field and 7-of-7 on three-pointers in the first half. He became the first Sixer in franchise history to hit his first seven threes, and the first Sixer since Lou Williams in 2010 to sink his first 10 field goals. He now pulls without hesitation from 30 feet, while still having a swiss-army knife set of tools in the floater game and around the basket. The Gastroenteritis Blues: (141) James Harden is Back, Embiid is Struggling, the Sixers are 0-2
EOn tonight's episode of The Gastroenteritis Blues, Steve, Dan and Drew (no Emily, sadly) discuss the Sixers' disappointing start to the season after consecutive losses to the Celtics and Bucks. What has contributed to Joel Embiid's especially poor beginning to the season, and how much of a cause for concern should it be for Sixers fans? How much should fans read into Embiid's body language and moping on the court during poor shooting efforts like Thursday night against Milwaukee as bad omens for going forward or -- at the least -- something the big man needs to get in order quickly. Then, they get on to a much happier topic: James Harden. With the guard looking like his All-NBA self, the trio discusses the most heartening aspects of his first two outings on the season. Plus assorted thoughts on Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, Danuel House, P.J. Tucker, Montrezl Harrell and many more. Since this is the division the Sixers are a part of, it’s good to give a quick podcast of thoughts and ideas as far as where each team sits – using odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook. The Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks all have decent prop bets to lay some money on. Adio and David give some of their best opinions based on some of the value that you might be able to get. Out of Site: Tyrese Maxey shines in the Sixers' preseason win over Brooklyn Nets. With Dave Early.
The NBA season has begun. (The pre-season has begun, anyway.) Regardeless of that, the Philadelphia 76ers are back playing basketball outside of scrimmages and practices. It’s time to face other NBA opponents! The first of which was the Brooklyn Nets last night where the Sixers won in Brooklyn by the score of 127-108. Obviously, there’s a reason why this game had special meaning to it. It was the first time any of us got to see what Ben Simmons would look like playing with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. (Many Sixers fans made the trip up to Brooklyn, and kudos to you guys. Ya’ll are the real MVPs.) For the Sixers, neither Joel Embiid nor James Harden played to keep them healthy and fresh for the regular season. Among the regularly scheduled starters, Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris played a half of basketball each before being sent to the bench to rest for the second half. Maxey had an incredible first seven minutes scoring 14 points and adding three assists before exiting with 20 points. Harris looked okay scoring nine points with the time he was allotted (more on that idea in the second half of the podcast). Sixers fans also got to see a few new additions to the roster like Montrezl Harrell and De’Anthony Melton. How did everyone look? Adio Royster and Dave Early answer those questions as well as talk about the idea of summer chemistry leading to success in season. Joel Embiid is now an American citizen, and what kind of new facial gear should Embiid come on the court with this year. (His face isn’t broken. You’ll just have to listen to the pod to see what we mean.) Go Sixers Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Gastroenteritis Blues: (139) Training Camp Opens, Who Are the Sixers' Batmen?
EOn today's episode of The Gastroenteritis Blues, the Emily and Steve discuss a plethora of media day quotes from Monday, first. James Harden says he lost "100 pounds" and our hosts are inclined to believe him! Joel Embiid is giving Ben Simmons the Voldemort treatment, everyone loves PJ Tucker, there's a glimmer of hope for Matisse Thybulle (perhaps), and the Sixers' social media team did a cute thing with 'first day of school' photos. Then, training camp opened in South Carolina, and the hosts discuss the viral clip of Doc Rivers' sidebar conversation with Harden. What were the big takeaways? Paul Reed claims he's the only one who can guard Tyrese Maxey, folks seem bullish on Jaden Springer, and listen to hear what prompted Emily to say the following: "I think Joel moved to the suburbs." They discuss his new American citizenship, as well. Finally, Drew joins the show to shepherd Steve and Emily through a Most Likely game wherein they compete in naming the Sixers' versions of Swole Batman, Skinny Batman, and Fast Batman, shoutout Darius Slay. Out of Site: Recapping Sixers Media Day. With Dave Early.
Today’s Out of Site Podcast on the Liberty Ballers Podcast Network is all about the media! (It’s not in the way you may be thinking, however.) Monday was Media Day for the Philadelphia 76ers at the Camden, New Jersey practice facility. It was the first time all of the Sixers were in the same place since the addition after addition during the off-season. All of the major players were there: Joel Embiid, James Harden, Tyrese Maxey. They were joined by new Sixers P.J. Tucker, De’Anthony Melton and Danuel House. All of Sixers media were in attendance to get a sense of how the team is feeling going into this season with all of the new additions and (according to Joel Embiid) the loss of a large weight of drama. Speaking of weight, James Harden joked he had lost 100 pounds. Take from that what you will, Sixers fans. Hosts Adio Royster and David Early break down some of the major points about yesterday’s media day including the more “we” vs “me” attitude that seems to have taken hold of the locker room. They also talk about the revelation of P.J. Tucker’s arthroscopic surgery – which no one knew about prior to his contract being offered. The roster should be very competitive, so Adio and David discuss who has to work a little harder to carve out significant minutes. In part two of the podcast, your hosts are closing the book (for now) on Ben Simmons between what he had to say on the JJ Redick podcast as well as comments he made at Brooklyn Nets media day when a reporter asked if he was going to shoot any more than he had in previous years. The Gastroenteritis Blues: (138) Doc's Likes, Simmons' Podcast, Celtics' Turmoil
EAfter a week away from the mics, Dan and Steve are back on Gastro (Emily is away) to catch up on all things Sixers and NBA. First, they catch up on Doc Rivers,' uh, um, well, eventful day on Twitter which I am legally obligated to remind you that the Sixers have insisted was a result of his account being hacked. Anyway, listen to hear whether or not the guys think that passes the smell test. Then they discuss former Sixer Ben Simmons' first in depth interview since his infamous exit from Philadelphia on JJ Redick's podcast. What did they think of Simmons overall on the show? How'd they like JJ's line of questioning? What about the revisioning history of it all, especially as it pertains to the Atlanta series? They dissect some of Simmons' key quotes. They then dive into the bombshell news out of Boston: head coach Ime Udoka has been suspended for a full year by the team. They do their best to talk about the situation while acknowledging that many (likely ugly) details are still yet to emerge. Out of Site Podcast: The Sixers new alternate jerseys, and what happens to Matisse Thybulle with all the added depth this season? With Dave Early.
The Philadelphia 76ers have a leak – a jersey leak! The 2022-2023 City Edition jerseys were leaked on Twitter last week, and Harrison Grimm decided not to plug that hole. Adio and David give their opinions on the new “City of Brotherly Love” jerseys that the Sixers will debut along with the new look on the hardwood. Moving to the personnel aspects of the team, Adio and David give their opinion about the signing of Montrezl Harrell. With Harrell on the team, what role is he most likely to serve on this Sixers roster? The Sixers have been going “all in” with recruiting old Houston Rockets from the Daryl Morey days like Harrell, PJ Tucker, and Danuel House. In addition to those pieces, where will Paul Reed land in the rotation given so much more trusted (?) competition in the front court? After discussing the back court, Adio and David bring up a familiar topic – Matisse Thybulle. Thybulle is likely in a “make it or bust” season. He is a restricted free agent this year, and with other offensive options in the back court such as De’Anthony Melton and Danuel House, can there be a spot for Thybulle – who, as we know, has been more defense first than offense in his career. A wide range of topics is discussed as we approach training camp and the Sixers pre-season, and Liberty Ballers has you covered. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Out of Site podcast: Jonathan Macri of Knicks Film School joins Adio and Dave to talk Donovan Mitchell and where the Knicks will finish in the loaded East
It's a different day, but it is still the Out of Site Podcast on the Liberty Ballers Podcast Network. Over the past few weeks, your hosts Adio Royster and David Early have been spanning multiverses in Philadelphia 76ers history and lore with the special "What if ..." summer engagement series. This week, there is no travelling. They are staying in the current reality that can be just as torturous, sometimes. It's not a reality that torments just Sixers fans. New York Knicks fans have had a week full of hope and eventually heartbreak and turmoil. After being on the rumor mill to acquire Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz, the Knicks lost out on Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers. With that, Adio and Dave have welcomed Jonathan Macri of Knicks Film School to join them on the podcast this week. Adio and Dave talk with Jonathan about what happened with the trade. It's possible there was a slight lack of back-and-forth as far as staying at the negotiation table. Maybe the Knicks didn't offer enough according to the reporting that Jonathan brings up throughout the podcast featuring the likes of ESPN's Zach Lowe, Ian Begley and others. As it stands, the Knicks have fully committed to RJ Barrett after offering him a new four-year contract. What does that mean for the Knicks as they try to build a relevant team in an increasingly loaded Eastern Conference? Do the Knicks have enough talent to get into the play-in tournament or will there be another year of playoff-less basketball at "The Mecca" of Madison Square Garden? Adio, Dave and Jonathan discuss all of that and more on today's podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Gastroenteritis Blues: (137) Montrezl Harrell Is a Sixer and We Feel Meh About It
EOn today's episode of The Gastroenteritis Blues, Steve and Dan discuss the big news from the week that was: Montrezl Harrell is a Sixer. He signed with the Sixers on a two year deal, as the Sixers' front office could not help itself but to sign a veteran big man to steal some (all?) minutes from friend of the podcast BBall Paul. They take a look at every aspect of this signing, from Harrell's positives -- inside scoring, foul hunting, toughness, energy, fighting -- and his negatives -- defense, outside shooting, how much Doc Rivers loves him, etc -- before levying an overall verdict for how they feel about the signing at the end of the day. They also toss out a gentle reminder about who actually signs players to the Sixers. Also discussed: BBall Paul's tweeted-and-deleted response to the Harrell signing, Shams Charania's report about the In-Season Tournament, and an Eagles preview which took place prior the Birds' Week 1 victory over the Detroit Lions. Finally, the guys play a couple Sixers Sporcle games, which will both delight and infuriate you listening and home. Listen and play along, especially if you're a big Red Kerr fan.
