Out of Site - Embiid is the MVP ... and the Sixers Steal Game One in Boston

It is all good in the Philadelphia 76ers neighborhood! Joel Embiid was named the MVP for the 2022-2023 season (in an unexpected runaway), and the Sixers stole game one of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the Boston Celtics 119-115. James Harden pulled a magnificent performance out of his bag to the tune of 45 points including the dagger three with 8.4 seconds left. Embiid was named the MVP getting 73 of the first place votes (15 for Nikola Jokic; 12 for Giannis Antetokounmpo) to get his first MVP trophy after being the runner up for the last two seasons. Vindication! The Process worked. Adio and David talk about that as well as thoughts about game one looking ahead to game two on Wednesday night. Follow Adio on Twitter. Follow David on Twitter. Out of Site - Sixers Break out Brooms ... as Boston Looms

The Philadelphia 76ers have dispatched of the Brooklyn Nets in (not so) dramatic fashion sweeping them after their 96-88 victory in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. The big news going into round two (likely) against the Boston Celtics is the same as it usually is this time of year: the health of one Joel Hans Embiid. We're in the torture chamber, again, Sixers fans. Embiid has an LCL sprain in his knee which is a one to two week recovery, so his availability against the Celtics is looking doubtful for game one on Saturday (if the Celtics close out Atlanta tomorrow night). All is not doom for the Sixers, however. Tyrese Maxey played like he's absolutely ready for this moment. Tobias Harris has looked good (in round one, anyway). Is James Harden ever going to look like the Harden that was getting All-NBA consideration just a few months ago? Those are the questions headed into round two as we break it down early in the week before any round two games are even scheduled. Out of Site - Sixers on to Brooklyn up 2-0

Your Philadelphia 76ers are up 2-0 on the Brooklyn Nets in their first round playoff matchup after a 96-84 win at the crib in South Philadelphia! Sixers fans were treated to the Tyrese Maxey Playoff Experience as he dropped in 33 points. After the hot shooting in game one, things went a little cold in game two. It looked a little weary as the Sixers were down five at the half, but a 20-5 run to start the second half erased that. Now, the Sixers travel to the Barclays Center for games three and four later this week. Sean Kennedy joins Adio Royster on the podcast to discuss the happenings of game two as well as what the Sixers can learn (if anything) from the Nets as they likely will face the Boston Celtics in round two. Out of Site - Post Bucks Loss, Pre-Celtics Tip-Off

The Philadelphia 76ers have entered the final week (or so) of the season, and things did not get off to the best start after losing to the Milwaukee Bucks last night at the Fiserv Forum 117-104. Joel Embiid continues to try and make his case for MVP, but Giannis Antetokounmpo was not having any of the Sixers gaining ground putting up 33 points and 14 rebounds. Now, the Sixers return home to the Wells Fargo Center to face the second of two-straight games against the top two seeds in the Eastern Conference -- the Boston Celtics. Adio Royster and David Early go over what went wrong in the Bucks loss last night and preview a Celtics matchup that might be vital for the Sixers (loosely) from a health and load management persepective not to mention further MVP candidacy. Out of Site with Adio Royster and David Early: Kyrie to Dallas!?! That's Good for us, Right?

It has been another weird seven days for Philadelphia 76ers Nation. The Sixers had been winners of 20 of their last 24 games, climbing the Eastern Conference, and solidifying their position as a top-four team in the East. They looked like a true force to be reckoned with, and while they still do on any given night, losses to the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks made them look tired. Thankfully, the NBA All-Star Break is approaching. Joel Embiid and James Harden were not named All-Star starters. Embiid was named as a reserve, but is it possible that our dynamic duo could use a rest. That will be discussed by Adio Royster and David Early on this episode of “Out of Site”. Speaking of dynamic duos, there is a new pair in Dallas as the Brooklyn Nets traded All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and draft picks. How does this trade make the Brooklyn Nets look both now and when Kevin Durant returns from injury. The Nets are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference. While they are still formidable with Durant and a good supporting cast (cast members who will be available on most nights unlike Kyrie), how much of a threat do they pose? All that plus some bet ideas on Super Bowl 57 between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. #GoBirds! Peace, love and Sixers! Learn more about your ad choices. Talking About the Sixers starting their road trip off right in San Antonio

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that was certainly the case for the Sixers' second quarter in San Antonio, as Philadelphia put up 47 points in the frame, their highest total in a quarter this season. The Sixers would go on to defeat the Spurs, 137-125, led by 33 points from Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey's 25 points off the bench. In this Talking About Podcast post-game episode, Sean Kennedy and Dave Early discuss the strong effort from the bench, with Shake Milton and Georges Niang also joining Maxey in double digits. They then cover James Harden egregiously being left off the All-Star team, and the latest drama in Brooklyn with Kyrie Irving requesting a trade. Learn more about your ad choices. Emergency Podcast! All Things MVP

Emergency pod, Sixers beat Nuggets! Joel Embiid dominates Nikola Jokic. Rivalry week is going pretty well in Philly as Embiid just goes absolutely ballistic, willing his team back from a 15 point deficit in a bit home win. James Harden played a masterfully efficient 17 point 13 dimes 0 turnover game. P.J. Tucker earned all his salary today, playing his best game as a Sixer despite almost nothing to show for it in the box score. Tobias Harris must've had some amazing orange slices at the half as he came out the break cooking and finished with a clutch three and steal on Joker. Georges Niang and Shake Milton had a little scrum. The MVP debate has to see a bit of a swing now. Greg argues Jokic should give one of his trophies to Joel. Is it time to give Doc Rivers his praises or nah? Then, we talk about our NFL gut feelings. Where do the Eagles stack up with this Final Four? Learn more about your ad choices. On the latest episode of the Talking About Podcast, Sean Kennedy and David Early discuss the Sixers' intense, playoff-atmosphere win over Brooklyn, the team's sixth straight as they've moved up to second place in the Eastern Conference. What is Brooklyn to do about Ben Simmons? Was Joel Embiid trying to do too much? Does the Sixers' defense have a prayer of slowing down the Nets if everyone is healthy? Out of Site with Adio Royster and David Early: Philadelphia 76ers go West Coast Swinging!

One. Two. Three, four, five in a row! The Philadelphia 76ers went a perfect 5-0 on their trip out west with wins over both Los Angeles teams (Lakers, Clippers), the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trailblazers and Utah Jazz. They did this with the usual performances from Joel Embiid and James Harden, but the bench has also come through as well as Embiid and Harden both missed the game against Sacramento. Speaking of the bench, Tyrese Maxey has been coming off the bench the last few games versus being in the starting lineup. Is this the kind of rotation flexing that Doc Rivers was talking about, and what do Adio Royster and David Early think of it. After talking about the bench, your hosts give their thoughts on the Sixers win streak and then play a little “Rotation Trust Level” with a column written by Josh Grieb. After the break, there was a report that Sixers owner Josh Harris was looking to buy the Washington Commanders. How does that play into numerous reports that the Sixers are looking to avoid paying a repeater luxury tax? With the trade deadline looming, does that limit the types of deals that General Manager Daryl Morey is able to make – like a Doug McDermott trade (that Adio is going to celebrate maybe a little too hard if it comes to fruition). Talking About the Second-Place Sixers and Joel Embiid’s Dominance

The Sixers are in (a tie for) second place! With the team having won the first four games of their five-game West Coast road trip, and 17 of their last 21 games overall, Philadelphia has moved to 29-16 on the season, in lockstep with Milwaukee for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. On this week’s Talking About Podcast, Sean Kennedy and David Early cover whether this recent run of success has changed their outlook on the ceiling for this Sixers’ team. With the second seed much more there for the taking than a few weeks ago, should the team’s view on load management be adjusted at all? How much more optimistic are they about the Sixers’ postseason success given the recent on-court synergies between Joel Embiid and James Harden. Plus, Embiid is up to 3rd on the MVP Ladder and putting up historic numbers. Why do people still insist on criticizing his playing style? (Looking at you, Hakeem!) Learn more about your ad choices. With Giannis struggling and Durant hurt, can the Sixers overtake the Bucks and Nets in the standings? Out of Site podcast: With Adio Royster and Dave Early.

The last three games have been a bit confusing for your Philadelphia 76ers. They started by getting beaten by 19 at the crib in South Philadelphia at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder. After that embarrassment, they traveled to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz, where they almost lost due to Jordan Clarkson going off for 38 points. Amazingly, they won the game, so it looked good heading to California. That’s when the Los Angeles Lakers (with no Anthony Davis, just LeBron James) almost won THAT game since LeBron threw down 35 points at Staples Center. These are not the performances you’d like to see from your Sixers, given that the Brooklyn Nets (sans Kevin Durant) and the Milwaukee Bucks (what’s up with Giannis) are catchable in the standings. The Sixers have upcoming games against the Los Angeles Clippers (Kawhi Leonard, Paul George), Portland Trailblazers (Damian Lillard), and Sacramento Kings (De’Aaron Fox, Kevin Huerter, Malik Monk), who all have guards capable of torching this Sixers defense similar to Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and Jordan Clarkson. Adio Royster and David Early talk about the possibilities of Doc Rivers tinkering with his starting lineup (finally) and look ahead to those games along with the two big ones: at home versus the Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets. After the break, Adio and Dave expand more on Doc Rivers’s alleged proposals to change the starting lineup and look ahead to the NBA Trade Deadline with a name you may not have been contemplating before David’s column last week. Injuries are impacting the Sixers and Nets with Joel Embiid and Kevin Durant getting hurt. How does this impact the East? Out of Site: With Dave Early.

The theme of today’s Out of Site Podcast on the Liberty Ballers Podcast Network seems to be “the injury report”. Adio Royster and David Early start the program with the news that Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant will be sidelined for a few weeks due to an MCL sprain. The Nets will re-evaluate him after a few weeks. (There’s a familiar phrase, eh, Sixers fans?) The Philadelphia 76ers are not without their own injury issues, however. Joel Embiid (who has been upgraded to questionable at the time of this recording) could miss Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons along with PJ Tucker (who is probable, currently). There is a plan of action that would serve Embiid and the Sixers best when the team begins their west coast road trip this weekend at Utah to play the Jazz followed by games against the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers. Injury news isn’t all negative. Since returning from a fractured foot, Tyrese Maxey has looked very good in games three and four. The Sixers split those two games, but Maxey appears to have returned to form to be a crafty spark plug in the Sixers' offense. After the break, Adio and Dave discuss the desire for Matisse Thybulle to get more minutes. In his piece (which was retweeted by Bill Simmons, by the way), Dave explained how much better the Sixers are in the plus/minus column when Thybulle is on the floor and how he should be used in certain matchups – something Adio has been asking for … for some time, now. To close things out, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Georges Niang has an interest in being a participant in this year's three-point contest at All-Star Weekend in Utah. This would be a great honor for him (as he said in interviews) and a great moment for this Sixers team. There is the concern of a drop-off or slump in shooting that befalls most participants (i.e. Patty Mills last year), but is it worth it for the recognition. We discuss that and more on this podcast. No Embiid, No problem. Without the big man, Sixers beat Pacers in OT. Talking About Podcast: With Sean Kennedy and Dave Early.

Without Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers looked to be on their way to a low-stress win at home against the Indiana Pacers. Then, they blew a double-digit fourth-quarter lead and suddenly found themselves down four with under a minute remaining in regulation. Fortunately, a pair of huge steals from Tyrese Maxey and James Harden allowed the Sixers to tie the game and force overtime, where they ultimately prevailed, 129-126, to move to 23-14 on the season. Joel Embiid drops 42 points and grabs 11 rebounds to help Sixers beat Pelicans. Out of Site podcast: With Adio Royster and Jovan Alford.

The Philadelphia 76ers opened their 2023 calendar year with a rematch with the New Orleans Pelicans at the crib in South Philadelphia. After being torched by Pelicans guard CJ McCollum in a loss in New Orleans, the Sixers did a better job of limiting his production. McCollum only scored 26 points, and the defense stepped up in a 120-111 win on Monday night. Zion Williamson had 26 points, six rebounds and seven assists before leaving in the third quarter. With Zion out, the Pelicans did not have enough firepower to keep the Sixers from getting their first home win of 2023. Joel Embiid finished with 42 points and 11 rebounds. James Harden had 27 points and 8 assists, and Georges Niang continued his blazing shooting pouring in 15 points off the bench (5/9 from three). Tyrese Maxey played his first game on the home court, and he looked to be getting back to form with his transition play and finishing ability – which is even more good news for this Sixers team. As the Sixers look forward to the next week and a half, Adio Royster and Jovan Alford of Total Sports Live (filling in for David Early) look to see how the Sixers can rack up wins prior to their west coast road trip in the middle of January followed by two pivotal games at the end of the month against the Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets. In part two of the podcast, Adio and Jovan get into the New Year’s spirit with some “New Year’s Resolutions” that they would like to see the Sixers employ going into the next few weeks and months before the All-Star Break. Happy New Year, Sixers Nation. The year is started off right, so let’s keep it tight! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Tyrese Maxey returns, but the Sixers come up short against Pelicans. Talking About Podcast.. With Dave Early.

In this episode, Dave Early joins Sean to recap the Sixers' 127-116 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. The vibes were positive for the Philadelphia 76ers heading into Friday night’s contest in New Orleans, as Tyrese Maxey made his long-awaited return from a fractured foot. Meanwhile, New Orleans was missing Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones, but those absences did not slow the Pelicans one bit. Led by a career-high 11 three-pointers from CJ McCollum for 42 points, and 36 points from Zion Williamson. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Gastroenteritis Blues: (151) Sixers Finally Lose & Discussing all things Harden with Fox Sports' Yaron Weitzman

E

On tonight's episode of The Gastroenteritis Blues, Steve, Dan and Emily discuss the Sixers' eight game winning streak which came to an end this week as the team fell in predictable (but frustrating) fashion to the Wizards in Washington. What did they make of the loss, or the previous two games -- a Christmas day fun win over the Knicks in MSG or a come-from-behind win-of-the-year against the Clippers? They talk lots about the tremendous play of Joel Embiid and James Harden, plus P.J. Tucker's dead hand and Tyrese Maxey's imminent return. In the second half of the pod, the Gastro Gang welcomes back to the show Yaron Weitzman of Fox Sports. The Tanking to the Top author most recently published an excellent, in depth exclusive interview with Harden, and he was kind enough to sit down to talk about how the piece came together and what Harden was like throughout their meetings. They touch on Harden and Embiid's relationship, his answer about Game 6 against Miami from last season's Playoffs, the recent report that he may prefer to head back to Houston this summer, and much more. Out of Site: The Sixers are one of the hottest teams in the NBA after winning eight in a row, is this team a legitimate championship contender? With Dave Early..

Christmas time has passed. Christmas time has passed. (Just assume your hosts are singing that like in the beginning of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.) The Philadelphia 76ers have won eight in a row after their 119-112 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day. The boys in red and white (very Christmassy, by the way) were fueled by performances by Joel Embiid (35 points, eight rebounds), James Harden (29 points, 13 assists) as well as some hot shooting from De’Anthony Melton and Georges Niang – particularly from the “Mini Van” in the fourth quarter. Things are going good. So, something has to happen to change the mood, right? Well, the mood is improved even moreso thanks to a report from Jackson Frank that says that Tyrese Maxey could be returning to the lineup THIS FRIDAY against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Sixers commented that Maxey might be put on a minutes restriction to start since he is returning from a fractured foot. With Maxey’s return, Adio Royster and David Early try to figure out what kind of boost the young 22-year-old guard will bring to a team that is surging. The pendulum swung the other way with a report to dampen moods a little. Before the game against the Knicks, a report from Woj suggested that James Harden is interested in returning to the Houston Rockets in the off-season. We don’t know where the report came from. We don’t know what purpose the report serves, but as always, it is worth unpacking because we’ve seen this playbook from Harden in the past. Another report from Ian Begley hints that the Knicks have discussed internally about the prospect of trading for Tobias Harris. Is that transaction even possible? Do the Knicks have anyone the Sixers would want to get the team to the NBA Finals? Lastly, Adio adds a new title to his list of many responsibilities at Liberty Ballers. Rex Chapman may have cornered the market on the “block or charge” debate on Twitter, but who’s doing it ON actual podcasts. Well, Adio is with his “Yams Defender” segment towards the end of the pod.
