Lakers Lounge: Kyle Goon on what happened to the Lakers' culture of competition
This week, Anthony Irwin and Harrison Faigen welcome Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register to discuss how insane the last 19 months have been. Could he see the way this season went coming because he went through some of that experience personally? How ridiculous are the takes on the Lakers having it easier last season because of the bubble? From there, they discussed the concept of promised roles and how it seemed to fly in the face of the culture of competition Rob Pelinka spoke of when initially promoted. Anthony Irwin Show: Howard Beck on how wrong Anthony was about, well, everything
On this week's episode of the Anthony Irwin Show, Anthony welcomed Howard Beck of Sports Illustrated to look back on the season that was. Where did it go wrong? Is there anything they would've done differently last offseason? How hilariously wrong was Anthony about the caliber of team the Lakers could've been compared to years past? All that, plus a wider landscape view of the NBA after this grueling season and that time Taj Gibson checked in on Beck because of the giant knee brace he was wearing at the time and how it got there. Lakers Lounge: The Lakers have figured the Suns out
On this week’s episode of “The Lakers Lounge,” Harrison Faigen and Anthony Irwin first laughed at the fact that they named a show most people are listening to in the morning after a bar. Whoops. From there, they jumped into the chippiness exhibited by both Devin Booker and Jae Crowder late in the Lakers' Game 3 win that led to both their ejections. While neither Harrison or Anthony think they will or should be suspended, they do both believe this is going to have an impact on the next game as the referees assigned will likely go out of their way to control any such stupidity right from the tip. Given Crowder’s (and Chris Paul’s if we’re being honest) proclivity for dirty play, this is probably a good thing, even though it might cost the Lakers a couple fouls early. Once they turned their attention back to the game, they had some fun with how much Andre Drummond seems to love being a Laker, and how he feels like our look into what it would be like if a fan had access to the insane acts of athleticism LeBron James and Anthony Davis are capable of on that kind of regular basis. Lakers Lowdown: Doesn't matter who plays next to Anthony Davis when he plays like that
Anthony Irwin recaps a frustrating loss to the Phoenix Suns in game one of the first round series, and while much of the focus might be on who plays next to Anthony Davis, if he plays like that for the rest of the series, we might be heading to the offseason a lot sooner than originally planned. Irwin discusses those two points, as well as how they might've taken your attention away from how slow LeBron James looked. There is reason for optimism, though, so he ends the show with that. Lakers, Explained: Why ending up in the play-in could be a good thing
LeBron James is set to return soon, possibly as soon as Tuesday, according to the latest reports. When framed in conjunction with the Lakers destroying the Phoenix Suns — their potential first-round playoff opponent — without him on Sunday, things appear to be looking up for the purple and gold, even if it looks increasingly likely that they’re headed for the play-in tournament. The team itself has continuously maintained that they don’t want to end up in the potential double-elimination scenario, but it also could result in an easier side of the playoff bracket, if the Lakers take care of business. On today’s episode of “Lakers, Explained” — a podcast by Silver Screen and Roll — co-hosts Harrison Faigen and Anthony Irwin dove into the format, and why it could be a double-edged sword for Los Angeles. Then, after discussing all that, Harrison and Anthony wrapped the show by briefly discussing LeBron's return, and listing the names they most want to see interviewed for the upcoming Hulu docuseries about the Lakers. Postgame Show: Play-in, here we come
The shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers fell against the LA Clippers on Thursday night as they continue to barely hold on to their spot in the standings, and on the latest episode of the Silver Screen and Roll postgame show, hosts Anthony Irwin and Harrison Faigen broke down the blowout loss, and what their biggest takeaways are from such a resounding defeat. While the Lakers may not have been at full strength for this one, there still may be some things to think about following this matchup, maybe most of all that it might be seriously time to worry if this team has enough time to get healthy. Then, with the Lakers as close to a play-in game as they’ve been all season, Harrison and Anthony discussed which possible play-in opponent they’d see as the biggest threat to the purple and gold if they do end up in the potential elimination games. Because if they lose against the Trail Blazers in Portland on Friday, that’s where they’re headed. Finally, Harrison and Anthony wrapped up the show with a headwear-related attempt to try and break the curse that’s been following the Lakers all year. Learn more about your ad choices. The 30: LeBron James will miss the next two games, the Lakers' commitment to being healthy for the playoffs and who should get a bulk of the minutes at center? With Anthony Irwin.
In this episode, Anthony and Jas kick things off by discussing the news that LeBron James will be out for at least the next two games while he deals with some ankle soreness. The Lakers are hanging on to the sixth-seed by a thread, but is it more important to avoid the play-in tournament? or get into the postseason as healthy as can be? With the unprecedented changes to the schedule this season, could the Lakers actually benefit from LeBron and Anthony Davis missing so much time? Anthony and Jas share their thoughts on those questions and talk about why the Lakers are still in a great position going into the playoffs. Following the break, the guys get into which of the play-in teams poses the biggest threat for the Lakers if they wind up finishing as the No. 7 seed. After that, Anthony and Jas discuss head coach Frank Vogel's dilemma on what to do at center and why Marc Gasol might be the best option playing the 5 next to Davis. Learn more about your ad choices. The Lakers finally put together an energetic performance against the Nuggets Monday, but one lively effort wasn't enough for Sabreena and Anthony to forget the malaise that the team has been in for much of the regular season.
