Ep 124Hannah Brown, Olympic Archery Official

Might Alison have found a distant relative? We're talking archery with Hannah Brown, the chair of officials for the Tokyo 2020 archery tournament. She tells us how an archery tournament is set up, and what she remembers from tournaments (hint: It's not who wins). She did the test event too, so she describes the Tokyo venue and how you can "have a go" if you have tickets to any of the archery dates at the Olympics. [If you do go, and you hear massive cheering for the officials, Jill's in the stands.] Also, this week's slice of TOFU with DeAnna Price, Clare Egan, Erin Jackson and Laura Wilkinson. Several countries have released their Tokyo 2020 team uniforms, and we have thoughts. Tokyo's got great plans for the Paralympic flame, and Tahiti has the French waves. Ep 121Book Club Claire on "The Suspect"

Book Club Claire is back! We've got a rousing discussion of "The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, the Media, and Richard Jewell, the Man Caught in the Middle" by Kent Alexander & Kevin Salwen. The book covers the story of the bombing during the Atlanta 1996 Olympics and how the rise of the 24-hour media cycle contributed to getting the story wrong. Claire also talks with Andrew Maraniss, the author of our next selection. Find out more about that book on our Book Club page. Be sure to follow Claire on Twitter! Our Team Olympic Fever Update, sponsored by PinCollector.com, features Samantha (Achterberg) Schultz, Clare Egan, and the newly christened bobsled stud Josh Williamson (we did not come up with that, honestly!). We also delve into the International Olympic Committee Athlete's Commission's new guidelines on Rule 50. Rule 50 prohibits advertising—with some exceptions—but it also prohibits protests. We talk about what that could mean for Tokyo and beyond. DISCLAIMER: OLYMPIC® is a trademark of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee ("USOPC"). Ep 114Team Canada Chef de Mission Marnie McBean

We often hear the title "chef de mission" mentioned during an Olympics, but what is it that a chef actually does? We get the scoop from Team Canada's chef de mission to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Marnie McBean. Marnie is a multi-medal winning Canadian Olympic rower who competed at Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, winning 3 gold and 1 bronze. A back injury sidelined her while at Sydney 2000 and led to her retirement. Tokyo 2020 will be her 10th Olympics – she's gone as an athlete, as a member of the media, and as part of Canada's chef team. With so many Olympics under her belt, she definitely has some great stories! You can follow Marnie on Twitter and Insta, and be sure to visit her website. Some of our Team Olympic Fever members have been published recently. Congrats to MCamp for his article in Sport Business Daily and Dr. Micheal Warren for his book review in the Journal of Sport History and new Team NZ blog post. Also, Team Olympic Fever aerialist Emily Cook has taken a job with Classroom Champs, and the dulcet tones of Jason Bryant are announcing an Olympic trials this weekend. The IOC Executive Board meeting took place this week, which means we have another chapter in the maranovela. The group made a lot of decisions together, and we've got the news on that. There's no new news in the Paris 2024 hotelnovela, but there is a new development about the frontrunner to host the surfing competition. This is good--if you can't have another chapter in the hotelnovela, this development is definitely a good substitute. Keep this item in mind until....oh.....about September 2023. Plus, we've got word on the 2030 and 2032 Olympic bid timeline. Thanks, as always, to our TOFU sponsor PinCollector.com – it's the best site to catalog your Olympic pin collection, buy, sell and trade! It's free to join and transaction fees are low. Ep 104Olympian Joe Maloy on Triathlon

Rio 2016 Olympian Joe Maloy talks with Jill about what makes a successful triathlete (hint: think mental game). Joe is currently working for USA Triathlon as its Collegiate Recruitment Program Coordinator. You can follow him on Twitter and Insta. Some shocking news: Russia's worried about getting banned from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics because the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) found some inconsistencies in the samples the Russian Anti-Doping Agency handed over. Inconsistencies?! From RUSADA? Who would've thought! Our Team Olympic Fever update is full of weddings, babies, bobsled results (yep, it's winter sports time again) and an update on the traveler of the month. Plus, the Tokyo 2020 organizers have announced what the furniture in the Olympic Village will be--they're sticking with their sustainability initiatives and have come up with something pretty innovative. We have opinions, of course. Also, from seemingly out of nowhere, TBach unleashes an expertise we'd never guess he had. Thanks so much for listening, and until next time, keep the flame alive! Ep 101Reporter Karolos Grohmann on the Olympics' Rule 40

Olympic athletes rely on sponsors to help them earn a living--but during the Olympics, the most important time a sponsor can benefit from this partnership, they often can't market it. Why? The International Olympic Committee's Rule 40. We talk with Associated Press sports correspondent Karolos Grohmann to learn more about this controversial rule. Follow Karolos on Twitter--he's a great resource if you want to keep up on the IOC. Plus, a Team Olympic Fever Update featuring Dr. Victoria Jackson, Shiva Keshavan and Lindsey Mayo. Ep 100Lightning Round with Interpreter Grace Hahn, Researcher Dr. Micheal Warren and Sports Historian Dr. Victoria Jackson

This week, since it's the long Labor Day weekend in the US, we're bringing you a Lightning Round, featuring our Team Olympic Fever interpreter Grace Hahn, our Kiwi Connection Dr. Micheal Warren and our sports historian Dr. Victoria Jackson. Our team members have been busy since they've been on the show. Grace Hahn has a new ebook about being a global traveler/remote worker. You can also get tips and guidance on travel and remote working from her website. Dr. Micheal Warren, aka our Kiwi Connection, has been busy writing blog articles for Team New Zealand. Check out his latest one about canoeing! Sports Historian Dr. Victoria Jackson recently recently published an op-ed she co-wrote with Andrés Martinez in the LA Times on how to improve the World Cup. She's also had some exciting projects happening at the start of the semester, so follow her on Twitter. Thanks so much for listening, and until next time, keep the flame alive! Ep 99LEXI Founder Giles Long Explains the Paralympic Classification System

It's one year until the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games! As we start to prepare to watch these Games, one thing stood out in our memories from watching Rio 2016: What's up with all of those classifications? Along with doping tests, para athletes have to undergo classification tests so that they're placed into competitive groups that all have similar limitations. Unfortunately for the casual viewer, they seem to be random letters and numbers that don't make much sense, particularly when you're watching four different finals of the same distance race. We wanted to learn more about this system, so we talked with Giles Long MBE. Giles is a seven-time medalist Paralympian in swimming, including three golds. Giles also heard people's frustration with understanding the classification system, so he created LEXI, a graphical system that quickly explains what each class is so that you can better enjoy the competition at hand. You can learn more about Giles at his website or follow him on Twitter and Insta. If you've wondered whether para athletes try to work the classification system in their favor, Paralympics Australia recently released a mandatory online course for its para athletes about this very topic! It doesn't happen often, but there's certainly a concern that someone would do this in order to win. Ep 98Sport Development Officer Tim Yount on Olympic Triathlon

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic test events are well under way, and this weekend they're testing the triathlon course. We know that triathlon is swim-bike-run, but it's really more than that. Luckily for us, the USA Triathlon 2019 Age Group National Championships, which feature both a sprint and an Olympic distance were recently held in Cleveland, so Jill hopped on her bike and headed to Edgewater Park to have a chat with Tim Yount, USA Triathlon's Chief Sport Development Officer -- and race announcer -- to learn more about the sport and what to look for in Tokyo. During this interview, we have a first for the podcast, as worlds collide within our Team Olympic Fever. Which of our TOF members does Tim know? You'll have to listen to find out (or watch this video)! From Tokyo 2020, some updates on the heat and how it's affected some test events. Our TOF member Roy Tomizawa attended the rowing test event and had this to say from the spectator perspective. And there's more fun from Italy, as the Italian government has proposed taking control of its Olympic committee. That's a big no-no with the IOC, because as you know, sports and politics do not mix, so we talk about the potential repercussions....and how the USOPC might face the same music. Ep 97Olympian/Film Producer John MacLeod

We're excited to have Olympian John MacLeod*, producer at WitNit Productions, with us this week. John's been working on a fascinating project called "Beyond Bronze, Silver and Gold," which is a series of documentary films that share Olympians' untold stories. You've got to see the previews of his first two shorts -- they're riveting, and really well-told. John's working on the post-production portion now, and he's got a Kickstarter going to help fund that effort so they can get done and in front of audiences sooner. You can support his efforts here - you don't have much time left to do so, though! The drive ends on August 15. We also have a small slice of TOFU for you this week, as well as some legacy news. You know how much we love talking about Olympic Host City legacies. This time it's because Lake Placid is investing a lot of money into renovations of some of its facilities ahead of hosting the 2023 Winter Universiade. Good on you, Lake Placid! We're always impressed at how this town has done such a good job of reusing its facilities. On a different part of the spectrum is Rio. Not the other end, perhaps, but just a different part. The International Olympic Committee released a statement about what was going with the Rio venues, and we spend some time reading between the lines of the press release to figure out what it actually means. Thanks so much for listening, and until next time, keep the flame alive! *Or John MacLeod, OLY if you prefer. Ep 96Superfan Sarah on Olympics Preparations & Tokyo 2020

We're less than a year away from the Tokyo Olympics, which means there's not that much time for fans to prep. Never fear--Superfan Sarah is back to give us some tips on what we can do now. Plus, she's also spent a good amount of time in Tokyo, so she's got tips on how to beat the heat, different food to eat, how to get around and more! We always love it when Sarah's on because there's so much to talk about. She fills us in on what the mood was like at the recent U.S. Classic gymnastics event that she and Listener Meredith attended. We also take the first of what will likely be many "What Sport Are You?" quizzes. This one is based on your Myers-Brigg personality types.....and it was really written for a recent Commonwealth Games, but it's been floated around now too (in case you wonder why "your sport" isn't in the Olympics--if that's the case, how do you match up in terms of shoes?). Of course, there's always more news from the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee. Check out its plans for WATERFRONT CITY and a commemorative coin! Ep 95One Year to Tokyo 2020!

IT IS ONE YEAR UNTIL THE TOKYO 2020 OLYMPICS!!! With all of the celebrations and ceremonies happening in Tokyo and with National Olympic Committees around the world, we couldn't be more excited. We wanted to get some perspective on what it's like on the ground in Tokyo, so we asked Roy Tomizawa to come on our show and give us some insight. Roy's the author of the blog The Olympians: From 1964 to 2020 and the new book 1964: The Greatest Year in the History of Japan – How the Tokyo Olympics Symbolized Japan's Miraculous Rise from the Ashes (spoiler alert: This will be our book club selection in the run-up to the Tokyo Games, but Roy probably wouldn't mind it if you got your copy now. Neither would we). Naturally, we have a lot of Tokyo 2020 news, including releases of the volunteer uniforms and the medals. We also learned something about Summer Olympics medals design guidelines that we hadn't realized. A number of Tokyo test events are underway, so we decided that we should also run our own fan test event -- test out your viewing situation and send us pictures on Twitter, Insta or our Facebook group with #OFtestevent. We want to know: How comfortable is your chair/couch? What's your snacking strategy? How many screens are you watching? Will you have a uniform? Plus, we discuss the possible sites for the Paris 2024 surfing competition (including some choice diplomatic words from TBach himself). And it wouldn't be an episode without some doping news, this time from the world of wrestling, courtesy of the dulcet tones of Jason Bryant. Ep 94Episode 94: Auction-Worthy Olympic Collectibles

Ever wonder what happens to Olympic medals and torches? Some go to museums; some go to auction and to a collector's collection. This week we're talking to Jon Becker, Olympic auction consultant for RR Auction, who tells us the type of items that go up for auction and how much they can be worth (you'll be surprised to know how much Jill has held in her hand). RR Auction's July Olympic auction is ending, but it will have another one in January. You never know what you'll find, so if you're in the market for Olympic collectibles, check it out. Jill also has a BIG update on her Tokyo 2020 ticket buying woes, but the OS Tokyo 2020 tickets site tracker is worth every Eurocent. In this edition, we've got sports psychologist Dr. Kristin Keim, Team USA's "Team Mom" Sherry Von Riesen and gold medal diver Laura Wilkinson. Who hooked Kristin on the Olympics? Ep 91Episode 91: Five Rings of Fun

Hope you had a great Olympic Day! Alison did some sport climbing; Jill did elements of a triathlon, and we both participated on Team Olympic Fever for Team USA's Virtual Race (we're currently sitting in 3rd place--wooo!). We loved seeing everyone's celebrations -- if you haven't gotten your participation certificate, send us your proof of participation. We'll get a certificate to you! It's that time of year when the International Olympic Committee members get together for their semiannual IOC Session, and this one was a big one! First up, the big decision: Who will host the 2026 Winter Olympics? Spoiler alert (in case you haven't heard the celebrations all the way where you are): It's Milan-Cortina. Jill watched the bid presentations, and boy, did Stockholm-Åre have a sound plan guided by the IOC's New Norm/Sustainability push. However, as Alison pointed out, Milan-Cortina had more support the whole way through, and they had the government guarantees. What do you think matters more to the voting members? Also at the session, The IOC celebrated its 125th anniversary by inaugurating its brand new headquarters, the Olympic House. Speaking of sustainability, the IOC could not stop talking about how sustainable the building is--and we have to say, it is pretty cool. Check it out here. And check out the fancy guards here. The additional sports for Paris 2024 are one step closer to being added to the program. They are: Skateboarding Surfing Sport Climbing Breaking While we'll get to experience the first three at Tokyo 2020, Breaking will be a first--and sure, everyone's talking about that dance sport now, but what really grabbed our attention was where the surfing competition could possibly take place. We've learned many other things during this IOC Session, including: The bidding process for hosting the Games will change again The IOC has its own broadcasting awards AIBA, while not running the boxing tournament at Tokyo 2020, will be putting together the pool of officials. Anyone see a problem there? WADA is going through the RUSADA samples they finally got a hold of. It's not going to be pretty. Tokyo 2020 tickets are on many people's minds right now. Jill and Contributor Ben snagged a few of the ones they requested. If you didn't get everything you want to see, there will be more opportunities. One way to stay on top of them is to subscribe to this bot, which will email you whenever a flash sale occurs. Also, the U.S. Olympic Committee has officially changed its name to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. This is a big, visible step to becoming a more inclusive organization--hooray! Ep 90Episode 90: Prepping for Sport Climbing at Tokyo 2020 with Josh Levin

Team USA sport climber and Team Olympic Fever member Josh Levin is back on the show to talk about his involvement with the sport since age 4 and training for the Tokyo Olympics. He also tells us which countries to watch out for at the Games. One of the other topics we talked about was moving up from the junior to senior ranks, and Jill was surprised to hear that Josh thought it was less stressful for him once he moved up. Josh also lays on some good wisdom about assessing your involvement in the sport and having an identity beyond your sport. Follow Josh online: Website Twitter Facebook Insta LinkedIn In our Team Olympic Fever Update, we mentioned that the dulcet tones of Jason Bryant have a new audio series called "Countdown to Nur-Sultan," consisting of 2-minute profiles of 100 wrestlers you'll see at the Senior World Wrestling Champs (held this year in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan). Jason told us that many of these people will also be at Tokyo 2020, so this is a great way to get to know the athletes (and hey, it's the dulcet tones of Jason Bryant--why else would you need to listen?). Ep 89Episode 89: Ken Hanscom on Traveling to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

It might still be a year away, but it's not too early to start planning your trip to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This week we're talking with Ken Hanscom, COO of Ticket Manager and a recognized expert in ticketing, corporate sponsorships, traveling to and experiencing the Olympic Games. Ken tells us about the ticketing process, when to start looking for flights and hotel rooms and what else you can do in Tokyo during the Olympics if you don't happen to get tickets (three word clue: Heineken Holland House). We'll have Ken back on the show closer to the Games for some more Olympic travel tips. You can also follow him on Twitter and Insta, and his company is on Twitter as well. Ken mentioned a Facebook Group for people traveling and offering tips. It's called Tokyo 2020 Olympics Planning - Summer Games - July 24 - August 9, 2020. As we mention in our Tokyo 2020 Update segment, some cruise lines will have ships docked in the area and will be renting them out like hotels. If you stay in one, we'd love to hear about it! Don't forget that Olympic Day is coming up! In the US, you can find activities near you through the US Olympic Committee's dedicated webpage. Everyone's invited to take part in the USOC's Virtual Race. We're doing it -- we'd love to see you sign up too! You can also choose to do something sporty, take a photo of yourself doing it, use the hashtags #OFOD and #OlympicDay and post it on social or in our Facebook Group. We'll send you a classy Olympic Fever participation certificate via email! Thanks as always to our Patrons -- listener financial contributions help keep our flame alive. We spend about 20-25 hours on each episode, and patron donations ensure that we can continue this effort and have the resources to do even more as we get closer to Tokyo 2020. Ep 88Episode 88: Milan-Cortina vs. Stockholm-Åre for the 2026 Winter Olympics

At the International Olympic Committee Executive Board meeting a couple of weeks ago, the IOC Evaluation Commission for the Olympic Winter Games 2026 presented a report of its site visits. This large presentation shares details about each bid and sums up some of the important areas the IOC membership should consider when voting for a city (or in this case, region) to host the Games. In the first corner, we Milan-Cortina, Italy. They're passionate! They've got the backing of multiple government entities that have promised the money! They've got experience hosting a lot of winter sport World Cups and Championships! They also have no sliding track for bobsled, skeleton and luge. In the opposite corner, we have Stockholm-Åre, Sweden, a regional bid that includes the sliding track in Latvia (so they don't have to spend the money to build one) and a huge tradition and love of winter sports, but--and this is a big but--they aren't getting any government funding, and they haven't signed the Host City contract, which could be a very big deal for a group that abides by protocols. This week we attempt to figure out which way the IOC will go. Will they choose passion (and perhaps an over-budget Games), or will they choose a bid that could be solid, but isn't quite as enthusiastic? We'll find out on June 24, at the next IOC Session. We've also got some Team Olympic Fever updates from Jacqueline Simoneau and John Nabor. Plus, some news for Olympics fans who live in Pittsburgh: The TV show "Manhunt: Lone Wolf," about the 1996 Olympic bombing, is looking for extras. Find out here how you can be cast. Ep 87Episode 87: Gender and Sex in Athletics with Dr. Victoria Jackson

Recently, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that women who compete in the 400m, 800m and 1500m in athletics (track & field) may not have testosterone levels above a certain limit. This limit seemingly targets runner Caster Semenya, a South African Olympic gold medalist in the 800m, who is a woman with elevated levels of testosterone and runs these exact 3 races. Any woman who's been around a while knows this certainly seems like another way your gender is being kept down. So we decided to have a historian on to talk about this case and other ways gender and sex have been discriminated against throughout Olympic history. Dr. Victoria Jackson, a lecturer at the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University joins us to talk about the gender parades of the past; the line of thinking that believes extra testosterone only helps runners in these 3 races and no other track & field events; and the recent media discussions of elite athletes not being paid by sponsors when they have children. Dr. Jackson also understands the world of athletics well, as she's a former NCAA champion in the 10,000m and competed professionally. She still holds Arizona State's record in the 5000m, which she set in 2006. Follow Dr. Jackson on Twitter! Some of the articles we talk about (or don't quite get to, but are great reading for this topic): "The Decadelong Humiliation of Caster Semenya" - Dr. Jackson "Starfish Girl" by Maureen McHugh - This is a sci-fi story about body altering in gymnastics "How Should Officials Decide When Cutting-Edge Medical Interventions for Athletes Cross the Line?" - Dr. Jackson's response to this story "I was sore about losing to Caster Semenya. But this decision against her is wrong." - Madeline Pape The Caster Semenya case isn't over though--as we drop this episode, she's appealing the CAS decision with the Swiss Federal Tribunal. We'll keep an eye on this. In other Olympic news, the IOC Executive Board is going to recommend that the Tokyo 2020 Olympics should have a boxing tournament -- but that the embattled, scandal-ridden AIBA not be the federation in charge of it. We've got the details on this ongoing saga. Thanks, as always, to our Patreon patrons for making this episode possible. You too can become a patron and voice your support for the show! Ep 86Episode 86: The Olympics and New Zealand's National Identity

We love the fact that we have listeners from all over the world, and while we do love Team USA, we are also really happy when we can bring a different country's perspective to our show. Today we're talking about New Zealand and what participating in the Olympics means for its national identity. Our guest is Dr. Micheal Warren, an adjunct research fellow at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. We talk with Micheal about New Zealand's place in Olympic history--and it has a pretty prominent one for being a small country--how the stance "politics and sport don't mix" changes at one's convenience, and how a "disastrous" Olympic performance has changed the way the government funds athletes. We also talked about the cultural elements within Team New Zealand and its "Earn the Fern" program. Micheal gives us some things to notice about Team NZ during an Opening Ceremonies and explains their symbolism. And we get into haka talk. A haka is Maori war dance that's used in ceremonies, celebrations and as challenges. Most notably, the All Blacks, the national rugby team, are famous for their pre-match hakas. You might see them at the Olympics too -- Micheal tells us when to look for them. He mentions how Kiwi fans performed a haka for gold medalist Sarah Ulmer at Athens 2004. You can see her reaction here. Now, Jill loves a good haka, so this episode has encouraged her to go down a YouTube rabbit hole. Here are some of her favorites (excuse her while she grabs a Kleenex--she gets pretty emotional watching them): A haka for Queen Elizabeth II An epic All Blacks haka The farewell haka for Mr. John Adams New Zealand vs. USA at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup New Zealand men's rugby at Rio 2016 If you've got a favorite haka, send it to us! We're at [email protected] (just don't send that wedding one -- that one really makes Jill cry). But back to our guest. Micheal's dissertation about the Olympics and national identity is a great read. You can find it here. You can also follow him on Twitter to keep up with the news on New Zealand's Olympic efforts. Ep 85Episode 85: How Horses Get to the Olympics

We've been working on getting into equestrian events and thought, Well, why don't we start with how horses actually get to the Olympics? In this episode we're joined by Martin Atock, Managing Director at Peden Bloodstock, the firm that's been transporting horses to the Olympics since Montreal 1976. Martin tells us the incredible amount of logistical work that's involved and what it's like for a horse to fly on an airplane. You can learn more about Peden Bloodstock at its website, and its Facebook page has great videos showing them in action with the horses. This episode is also chock full of fun facts, including Taiwan government ministers making promises of snacks if Taiwan gets 4 golds in Tokyo. We don't get it either (we obviously missed an earlier story that explains more), but we'd certainly be in line for them if it happens. Alison's on snack watch! We also talk legacy -- Jill's got another Olympic swimming pool to put on her list, and we discuss what responsibilities international federations have in ensuring the legacy of Olympic venues. Ep 84Episode 84: Team USA's "Mom" Sherry Von Riesen

The US Olympic Committee's training facility in Colorado Springs plays hosts to hundreds of athletes every year. Some spend a week or two on campus for special training; others live there year round. To make sure the athletes are getting everything they need, the USOC relies on Sherry Von Riesen, athlete services coordinator -- or better known as Team Mom. In honor of Mother's Day this weekend, we learn more about how she helps the athletes become their best. We've also got a lot of Team Olympic Fever news on the docket and some Tokyo 2020 updates (hint: Some International Federations aren't happy with what's going on). Ep 83Episode 83: "The Second Mark" with Book Club Claire

It's time for another Olympic Fever Book Club episode, which means a great conversation with our friend Book Club Claire! Today we're talking about "The Second Mark: Courage, Corruption, and the Battle for Olympic Gold" by Joy Goodwin. This book documents the judging scandal around the 2002 Olympic pairs figure skating competition, which resulted in a whole new system of judging. If you want to see these pairs' programs from Salt Lake City 2002, we've got them right here: Salé & Pelletier - short: https://youtu.be/h_Zsq2uwND0 long program: https://youtu.be/BjY_LtNtVDc Berezhnaya & Sikhardulize - short: https://youtu.be/dAJUcgMZMO4 long program: https://youtu.be/E4S7c9s56A4 Shen & Zhao - short: https://youtu.be/FXZayW_DFYg long: https://youtu.be/iIdqjryYbQI Here's Berezhnaya & Sikhardulize's Chaplin program. And, for good measure, we've got some "Battle of the Blades" action -- both Jamie Salé and David Pelletier were on the show on "Battle of the Blades," which is coming back to TV this fall! Speaking of scandals, there's a new development in the Russian doping scandal, so we bring you up to speed on that and learn about an opportunity Jill could be uniquely qualified for. We also have some exciting updates on our Team Olympic Fever members Meagan Duhamel, Jacqueline Simoneau and Nick Cunningham. Our next Book Club book will be Shirley Babshoff's Making Waves: My Journey to Winning Olympic Gold and Defeating the East German Doping Program. We're excited to have the opportunity to explore the East German doping scandal (speaking of doping scandals....), so we're looking forward to this read. Ep 82Episode 82: Olympic Lightning Round 3

The Lightning Round is back! We pose the same questions to our guests; you'll be fascinated by their answers. This time we're joined by the dulcet tones of wrestling announcer Jason Bryant, sustainability expert Matthew Campelli (or, as we prefer to call him, MCamp) and U.S. Olympic Committee archivist Teri Hedgpeth. We also have some information on tickets for Tokyo 2020.....or at least a sympathetic article on how confusing the process is. That said, if you're living in Japan, your ticket lottery application opens on May 9. For the rest of the world, tickets will be available through an authorized reseller in June. The Tokyo 2020 website has more info on that whole process. If you like the show, share it with a friend. We're always looking for more Olympic fans to add to the fold. Ep 81Episode 81: Sports Agent to Olympians Jesse Lichtenberg

Professional athletes make a boatload of money, right? Well, not most American Olympians. They rely on agents like this week's guest Jesse Lichtenberg, founder of JL Management, to help them get exposure to their sport and their endeavors -- and hopefully land some deals that will lift them above the poverty line. Jesse talks with us about being an agent to sliders--luge, bobsled and skeleton--and what you need to be a successful agent (hint: killer negotiating skills are just part of the puzzle. Sharpies and peanut M&Ms are also key). You can find more information about Jesse's company, at JL Management, and follow her on Twitter. Also in this week's news, the event session schedule for Tokyo 2020 has been released -- and some events really benefit the US prime time TV viewers. Ep 80Episode 80: Olympic Sustainability with Matthew Campelli

This week we wondered just how well the IOC is doing in its sustainable initiatives -- they talk the talk, but are they walking the walk? To help us understand the issues better, we're joined by Matthew Campelli, editor of The Sustainability Report, an online publication that looks at sports and the ways major events and teams are adding sustainable elements to combat climate change and improve working conditions around the world. Matthew tells us when the IOC's and various Games Organizing Committees sustainability efforts really got off the ground and shares some of the interesting ways the Olympics is trying to have less of an impact on the earth. Be sure to check out The Sustainability Report on Twitter and follow their continued coverage of this topic. You can follow Matthew on Twitter as well! We're less than 500 days away from the start of Tokyo 2020, so we thought it would be fun to look back at the last Games held in Tokyo and compare the two. Tokyo 1964 was special for many advances, both for the Games and for the country of Japan–it's interesting to note those changes and wonder how we'll experience with the next Summer Games. Plus, we have a lot of TOFU (which includes Jill, surprisingly), as well as other Olympic news, including this Kickstarter about a Munich 1972 design book.
