Episode 638: The Wellness One: Acupuncture Explained with Boris Bernadsky (City of Oaks Acupuncture)
When I thought about putting together this wellness series, I knew I wanted to bring on my acupuncturist, Boris Bernadsky. Boris is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist at City of Oaks Acupuncture. He focuses on pain, neurological, and autoimmune conditions and was inspired by his own healing journey. His practice combines traditional Chinese medicine with ongoing study of physiology to provide personalized, effective care. I first started seeing Boris in May for bursitis in my foot and Achilles tendonitis. I also asked if he could help with a strange itchy-arm condition I’ve dealt with every summer for over 10 years. Since then, he’s supported me not only with those issues, but also with nervous system regulation and anxiety. In this episode, Boris explains what acupuncture really is, what it can help with, and how it fits into traditional Chinese medicine. You’ll hear about herbs, dry needling, nervous system regulation, and why even a simple monthly visit can feel restorative. Topics we cover: My personal path to acupuncture and what has changed for me Acupuncture within traditional Chinese medicine: the core branches How needles work today vs historically, and what “qi” actually means Nervous system regulation, rest and digest, and ear points Herbal medicine: warming vs cooling herbs and customizing formulas Common conditions acupuncture treats well, and when PT or other care is better Dry needling compared to acupuncture What a session feels like: environment, cost, insurance, and community models Boris’s marathon training, fueling, and love of running Tea, coffee, and nervous system effects Choosing the right acupuncturist and the role of moderation in health Media and resources mentioned City of Oaks Acupuncture: cityofoaksacupuncture.com Books: He Who Fights With Monsters; Born to Run; Running with Sherman YouTube: “Ran to Japan” channel following Jake’s pro-running journey in Japan Events: Bolderthon marathon; Leadville burro race Fuel and gear mentioned: Tailwind, Huma gels, NOOGS, Brooks Tea site: Path of Cha (pathofcha.com) Support our sponsors: Eternal Use code another10 for 10% off at checkout at eternal.co and book your performance physical today. Episode 637: Amanda Vestri on Her Marathon Debut at NYC and What’s Next After ZAP Endurance
I was so happy to welcome Amanda Vestri back on the show! She’s one of my favorite athletes to follow—and one of the sweetest people—and I’m thrilled to watch her make her marathon debut this fall at the New York City Marathon. In this episode, Amanda shares the behind-the-scenes journey that led to this moment: from the disappointment of the canceled World Half Marathon Championships to choosing New York over Chicago for her debut, and how she’s embracing the challenge of the unknown. We talk about what it’s been like closing the chapter with ZAP Endurance (her training group), navigating training without a permanent team, fueling and long runs, and how the marathon is already helping her grow as an athlete. Amanda opens up about her strengths and struggles, what she’s still chasing on the track, and how she’s approaching this next step with a mindset of curiosity and joy. If you’re a fan of process-oriented training, women’s distance running, or just rooting for good people doing big things, this one’s for you. She’s also a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, certified nutrition coach, and endocrine consultant for Eternal (the sponsor for this series!). Episode 634: The Wellness One: Small Habits, Big Life With Dr. Heather McKee
Hey friends! I’m kicking off a brand-new 10-part series on I’ll Have Another called The Wellness One, supported by our friends at Eternal. I wanted a space to look at whole-person health for runners and athletes — beyond splits and workouts — and bring in experts who can actually help us live, train, and feel better for the long haul. Today I’m joined by Dr. Heather McKee, a behavior change specialist who helps people “find joy in their healthy habits.” We get into why many motivated runners (hi, us!) still struggle with the “extras” like strength, mobility, recovery, nutrition, and medical check-ins — and how to finally make those stick. Heather explains how to connect habits to your own why so the motivation is “sticky,” what a minimum viable habit looks like in real life, and how to use flexible scaling instead of all-or-nothing thinking. We talk about “goal dilution,” the power of habit stacking, and how to become a “habit detective” using cues-routine-reward to bend unhelpful behaviors. I even share my own fidgety tendencies, and Heather offers a super practical re-route I’m going to try immediately. We wrap with three takeaways you can use today: Start with why — what does this change contribute to your life. Choose your minimum viable habit — the smallest version you’ll actually do. Scale flexibly — define 1–10 versions so the habit survives real life. Topics Discussed: What The Wellness One series is and why I’m doing it What Eternal offers and where it’s available Runners over-indexing training while neglecting recovery, strength, nutrition, and medical factors Intrinsic (“sticky”) motivation — starting with your personal why Minimum Viable Habit and consistency (the “one tooth” flossing idea) Goal dilution and focusing on one specific change at a time Flexible scaling (defining 1–10 versions so habits survive busy seasons) Habit loop: cue → routine → reward; becoming a “habit detective” Habit stacking and environment design to reduce friction Bending unhelpful habits (fidgets, nail/hair picking) and practical replacements Media Recommendations: Good Habits, Bad Habits — Wendy Wood Atomic Habits — James Clear Unreasonable Hospitality — Will Guidara Meditations for Mortals — Oliver Burkeman Support our sponsors: Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Eternal Use code another10 for 10% off at checkout at eternal.co and book your performance physical today.
Episode 633: Krissy Gear on Confidence, Boundaries, and Showing Up When it Counts
Today on the podcast I’m talking with Krissy Gear — 2023 U.S. steeplechase champion, road mile champion, and fresh off a win at the NACAC steeplechase. She’s lining up for the Fifth Avenue Mile this weekend, so the timing of this conversation is perfect. I first met Krissy at the Sir Walter Mile in Raleigh, and I knew right away I wanted to have her on the show. She’s fun, curious, thoughtful, and one of the biggest cheerleaders for the people around her. In this conversation, Krissy opens up about her journey from Furman to Arkansas, how she found her way into the steeplechase, and what it’s been like to train on her own after leaving NAZ Elite. She talks candidly about navigating confidence, nerves, and the mental side of racing — plus what she’s learning about setting boundaries, keeping perspective, and building trust in herself. You’ll also hear some lighthearted stories — about her dog Miss Oat, her boyfriend Michael, running with her Flagstaff crew, and even playing Fortnite with friends. Krissy is genuine, honest, and refreshingly open about both the highs and the challenges of professional running. I know you’ll enjoy getting to know her just like I did. Topics Discussed: Miss Oat the dog and how having a dog in college shaped Krissy’s routine College experience during COVID and transitioning from Furman to Arkansas NACAC steeplechase win and what the small field was like Sir Walter Mile experience Relationship with her boyfriend (meeting story, running goals, Whole Foods job, RBF stereotype) Running history: pole vault beginnings, high school mile and state titles, progression to steeplechase Transition from NAZ Elite to training independently with Hayden Cox, contract structure, and HOKA details Mental side of racing: therapy, nerves vs. excitement, building confidence, and her sunflower timing quote Support our Sponsors: Tailwind Nutrition Use code “Another20” at checkout Shokz Use code “ANOTHER” at checkout for a discount on your order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order
Episode 632: US Marathon World Championships Women’s Team; Susanna Sullivan, Erika Kemp & Jess McClain
Hey friends! I’ve got such a fun episode for you today. I’m joined by all three women who will represent Team USA in the marathon at the World Championships in Tokyo — and the coolest part is that they’re all sponsored by Brooks. Erika Kemp, Jess McClain, and Susanna Sullivan are each incredible athletes and returning guests to the show, and it felt so special to have them all together before they line up in Tokyo. We talk about their training, how they’re preparing for this world stage, and what it means to them to wear the Team USA kit. All three women bring such unique stories to the table — Erika with her breakthrough in Houston, Jess coming off her 2:22 at Boston, and Susanna balancing teaching with elite training. Their PRs are all within a minute of each other, so it’ll be exciting to see how the race plays out and if they can run together. The women’s marathon takes place on September 14th — mark your calendars so you can cheer on Erika, Jess, and Susanna! I can’t wait to watch and celebrate these finish line moments with them. Episode 631: Rachel Tomajczyk – From NCAA All-American to Chasing Podiums on the Trails
Hi friends, welcome back to another episode of I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein. Today I’m talking with Rachel Tomajczyk. Rachel is a trail and mountain runner, and before that she was a standout steeplechaser, a six-time NCAA Division I All-American at Baylor University. After college, she ran professionally with ASICS Furman Elite, spent some time in Flagstaff training with Ryan Hall, and even coached in Lynchburg, Virginia. Now Rachel calls Williams, Arizona home, where she lives and trains. She’s sponsored by Merrell and has already built an impressive resume in the sub-ultra trail world, with multiple podium finishes including winning the USA Half Marathon Trail Championships in 2021. She’s also been second at the USA Mountain Championships, the USA Mountain Classic, and the USA Mountain Vertical Championship. Rachel brings so much positive energy and grit to the sport, and I can’t wait for you to hear more about her story, her training, and what’s ahead for her career. Episode 630: Sage Hurta-Klecker: Making Her First World Championships Team
I was so excited to have Sage Hurta-Klecker back on the show, this time fresh off making her first U.S. team in the 800 meters. This has been a long time coming for Sage, who’s been one of our top middle-distance runners in the U.S. for years and has been heartbreakingly close to making teams in the past. We talked all about that thrilling lean for third place at USAs, her mindset and tactics during the race, and how she handled the nerves and physical risks of running in such a tightly packed field. Sage shared what it meant to finally have that “checkmark” moment in her career, while still staying grounded in knowing her worth as an athlete beyond team selections. We got into the differences between the 800 and 1500 for her, why she’s excited to explore the 1500 more in the future, and how races like Sir Walter Miler have helped her bounce back from setbacks. She opened up about the emotional recovery from missing past teams, what her training looks like with teammates like Josette Andrews, her pacing experiences (including Faith Kipyegon’s world record), and how she’s preparing mentally and physically for Tokyo. It was such a fun, honest conversation, and I can’t wait to see what Sage does on the world stage. Topics Discussed: Making her first U.S. team in the 800 meters The lean at the line and race tactics at USAs Managing nerves and risk in crowded 800s Differences between racing the 800 and 1500 Training alongside teammates like Josette Andrews Pacing experience, including Faith Kipyegon’s world record Shifting focus toward the 1500 in the future Bouncing back from missing previous teams Mental and physical prep for the World Championships in Tokyo Support from family and what this moment means in her career Media Recommendations: Book: The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green Book: Paper Towns by John Green Book: Turtles All the Way Down by John Green TV Show: The Gilded Age (HBO Max) Support our Sponsors: Tailwind Nutrition Use code “Another20” at checkout Shokz Use code “ANOTHER” at checkout for a discount on your order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans! Episode 629: Lexy Halladay-Lowry – From NCAA Runner-Up to USATF Steeplechase Champion
What a thrill it was to watch Lexy Halladay-Lowry become your 2025 USA steeplechase champion this past weekend — and I’m so pumped to bring you this episode with her just days later. Lexy is fresh off a breakout season: she took second at NCAAs this spring while competing for BYU and is now officially Tokyo-bound to represent Team USA. She’s coached by Diljeet Taylor (who also coached her at BYU), and she’s already clocked a 9:08 steeple. In this episode, Lexy breaks down the entire race — how it unfolded, what was going through her head, and how it feels to make the U.S. team. We also talk about her progression in the event, her relationship with Coach Taylor, and what she’s most looking forward to this season. If you haven’t watched the race yet, I highly recommend pausing this and pulling it up — search 2025 USA steeplechase championships women’s final and enjoy watching Lexy totally crush it. Episode 628: Christina Henderson – Event Director at The Running Event
I loved getting the chance to sit down with Christina Henderson, the event director for The Running Event (TRE). If you’ve been paying attention to the run specialty world over the last few years, you’ve probably noticed how much buzz TRE has been getting, and Christina has been a huge part of that growth. TRE is North America’s premier conference and trade show for run and outdoor specialty retail. It’s a B2B event where retailers connect with brands, learn about new products, and have bigger conversations about the future of our industry. Christina has helped transform TRE into more than just a trade show – it’s become a community hub for meaningful conversations around business, culture, and shared values. Christina is also an incredible runner herself, with a marathon PR of 2:56. We talked about the generational shifts happening in the running retail space, the challenges the industry is facing, and how TRE continues to evolve to meet the moment. I left this conversation so inspired by Christina’s passion for this community and her vision for the future of our sport. I think you’ll really enjoy hearing her perspective and getting to know her better! Topics Covered: Christina’s journey to becoming event director at TRE How she got her start in event planning and running-focused roles The evolution and growth of The Running Event over the past decade TRE’s role as more than just a trade show and its impact on the running industry Building community and supporting run specialty stores Emerging trends in run specialty retail and consumer behavior Success stories of brands like Hoka and Vuori that started small at TRE The importance of run clubs and community engagement for retailers The decision to move TRE from Austin to San Antonio Christina’s personal running background and love for the New York City Marathon Recommended books: Untamed by Glennon Doyle City of Thieves by David Benioff Support our Sponsors: Tailwind Nutrition Use code “Another20” at checkout BitchStick Go to Bitchstick.com and use the code “Lindsey” for 20% off your order Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans! Episode 627: Allie Ostrander: Steeplechase, Storytelling, and Owning Her Path
Allie Ostrander is back on the show, and this conversation was such a joy. Allie is one of the most multifaceted athletes I know—she’s a steeplechaser, trail runner, mountain runner, and content creator on YouTube, and she’s doing it all in a way that’s authentic to who she is. I admire how she’s leaned into the things that light her up instead of feeling boxed into one lane. We recorded this episode right before Allie raced the Stumptown Twilight meet, where she ran a 9:35 in the steeple—her fastest season opener yet—and took the win. She was tuning up for the U.S. Championships, and we talked about her mindset and training going into that race. We also looked back on her time at Boise State (three-time NCAA steeplechase champ!), her transition into the pro scene with the Brooks Beasts, and now her current chapter with Oiselle. I loved diving into how she balances training with her YouTube channel and how she uses her platform to speak openly about her experience with an eating disorder, aiming to help others coming up behind her. We also got into some fun stuff—like what shoes she’s into right now and her recent leap into longer distances, including her debut half marathon in 71:10. Allie is hilarious, honest, and such a strong voice in the running space. I’m always inspired by how she’s evolving and staying true to herself in the process. I know you’re going to love this one. Hey friends! I’m so excited to welcome back a longtime friend of the show, Colleen Quigley. Colleen is a 2016 Olympian in the steeplechase, a national champion, and one of the first professional runners I ever interviewed on the podcast! It’s been a while since we’ve caught up on the show, and Colleen has so much going on in this next phase of her career. In this episode, Colleen shares all about her newest venture: launching Meridia, a pro training group built by athletes, for athletes. We dive into why she started the team, what makes it unique, and how she’s approaching this next chapter in her running career. I love Colleen’s entrepreneurial spirit—she’s always been someone who thinks creatively about her path as an athlete, and you’ll hear that shine through in this conversation. We also talk about the Meridia Mile, a virtual one-mile race happening on August 9th. This is such a cool way to support Meridia as they get their team off the ground. She also talks about her continued partnership with Lululemon, her work with Runna, and how much she’s grown since first stepping on the professional running scene with Bowerman Track Club. This was such a fun catch-up, and I hope you enjoy hearing from Colleen as much as I loved chatting with her. If you do, it means so much if you leave a quick rating and review! What we talked about: Why Colleen launched Meridia and the journey to building an athlete-led pro team The meaning behind the name “Meridia” and how the team’s identity came together Breaking the mold: how Meridia allows athletes to choose their own coaches and sponsors The vision for Meridia as both a team and a media company amplifying athlete stories Building community through events like the Meridia Mile and their weekly newsletter How Colleen balances entrepreneurship with her own professional running career Her evolving relationship with running, navigating injuries, and finding joy again A refreshingly honest discussion about nervous system regulation, mental health, and the physical toll of sport Why Colleen stepped away from the steeplechase this season to focus on the 1500 and 3k What’s next for Colleen with racing, coaching connections, and future Meridia growth Favorite podcasts and books about the business of sport, healing, and mind-body connection Links: Sign up for the Meridia Mile: colleenquigley.org – use code “another” for $5 off Follow Colleen on Instagram: @steeple_squigs Books and Media Recommended: Second Nature Podcast The Mind Body Prescription The Cure for Chronic Pain Podcast Support our Sponsors!! Episode 625: Bailey Hertenstein – Going for the 5K World Standard this Weekend
Today on the show, I’m talking with Bailey Hertenstein! She’s a pro runner for Nike who has had such an exciting year making her debut on the pro scene. Bailey competed at Indiana University and then finished her collegiate career at Colorado—where she became a four-time All-American and placed fifth at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships. This past spring, she took second place at the USATF 5K Championships, finishing right between Josette Norris and Courtney Frerichs. Pretty incredible. She’s now coached by Pete Julian, lives and trains in Boulder, and is heading into the Sunset Tour in LA this weekend to chase that world standard in the 5K. In this conversation, we talk about what she’s learned transitioning to the pro world, how she’s built back confidence, what motivates her now, and how she’s grown both as an athlete and a teammate. She also opens up about the hard stuff—leaving Indiana on bad terms, navigating team dynamics, and what it’s taken to move forward. I loved this conversation with Bailey. She’s sharp, driven, honest, and someone I think we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the years to come. Make sure to go follow Bailey on Instagram at @baileyh_. Topics we discussed: Transition from IU to CU Owning past mistakes and personal growth Choosing to transfer to CU Signing with Nike and staying in Boulder Adjusting to the pro running world Imposter syndrome and mental challenges Breakthrough race at USATF 5K Champs First 10K experiences (track + Mini 10K) Final message on character and kindness Support our sponsors: Shokz Use code “ANOTHER” at checkout for a discount on your order Maui Nui Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey Geist Half Race Series Go to geisthalf.com and use the code “Another10” for $10 off any race distances. Episode 624: Rachel Entrekin – Two-Time Cocodona 250 Champion & Course Record Holder
Hey friends! Welcome to I’ll Have Another — I’m so glad you’re here. Today I’m talking with Rachel Entrekin, the 2025 Cocodona 250 champion AND course record holder! She ran 63 hours, 58 minutes, and 15 seconds this year to not only win but also break 70 hours for the first time in the race’s history. She’s now a two-time winner, and the first person to win Cocodona back-to-back. In this conversation, we get into Rachel’s story — her love for the trails, her life in Colorado, her work as a physical therapist, and how she’s built the strength (mentally and physically!) to take on 250+ mile races. I was blown away by her passion and the way she approaches this sport with such joy and reverence. She’s been called the Queen of Cocodona — and honestly, that title fits perfectly. Another amazing stat? She finished fourth overall this year — up from 11th overall in 2024 — taking 10 hours off her time from last year. Just incredible. This episode is a reminder of how cool running is. From 100-meter sprinters to ultrarunners covering hundreds of miles, there’s room for everyone in this sport. I’m so excited to bring you the another episode in the Behind the Mic series today — I’ve loved hearing your feedback on this series, and it’s been such a joy connecting with other podcasters who love this space as much as I do. Today’s guest is someone I’ve been incredibly inspired by: Dominic Schlueter, the host of The Running Effect podcast. Dominic started his podcast back in July 2020 — and get this — he was only 15 years old at the time. I actually looked back through some old emails and found pitches from him from over five years ago asking me to be a guest on his show! He just turned 20, and his growth and hustle are next-level. In 2023, he became the youngest person ever to land on Spotify’s podcast charts. Dominic is incredibly well-researched, thoughtful, and passionate about our sport. He’s had everyone from elite athletes to a member of Congress on the show. He recently interviewed Aleksander Piotr Lingauer, who ran 61 marathons in 61 days with just a backpack — the kind of story that makes you stop and reflect on what it means to chase something real. That’s what The Running Effect is all about: inspiring people to turn their what ifs into reality. Dominic is also putting in the work behind the scenes — he’s been on-site at events like the the Brooks PR Invitational and he’s consistently putting out high-quality content (we’re talking two Instagram posts a day!). I’m excited to see where this journey takes him. Let me know if you’re enjoying this series! You can email me at [email protected], leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (and shout out your favorite guest!), or share the episode on social. You can tag me @lindseyhein626 and Dominic @therunningeffect. Thanks for listening — I hope you enjoy this conversation with Dominic Schlueter! Episode 622: Erika Kemp – Making Her First World Champs Team & Joining the Relay Podcast
Hey friends! I’m so excited to bring you this conversation with Erika Kemp on the podcast this week. Erika is a two-time U.S. Champion (15K and 20K), a marathoner who ran a 2:22 in Houston earlier this year, and—most recently—a first-time World Championships team member. She’s also the newest co-host on the Relay podcast team, which I’m thrilled about! Erika has been on the show twice before—once in 2021 when she was chasing the Olympic standard with the BAA, and again in 2023 when she was building toward her Boston Marathon debut. In that race, she made history, running the fastest marathon ever by an American-born Black woman. In this episode, we talk about the evolution of her marathon career—how she shaved over 10 minutes off her Boston time in less than a year—and what that Houston race actually felt like behind the scenes. Erika shares how she’s approached training and racing under her coach Kurt Benninger (Molly Huddle’s husband!), her experience making her first World Champs team, and what it means to her to be a mentor and voice for representation in distance running. We also dive into what it’s been like joining the Relay crew and what you can expect from her as a co-host moving forward. I’m so pumped to have her on board and to share this deeper look at her story. Thanks for listening and supporting the show! If you’re not already following Relay, be sure to check it out—new episodes drop every Tuesday. Enjoy my conversation with Erika Kemp! What we talked about: 5:30- Her partnership with Brooks and being coached by Kurt (Molly Huddle’s husband) 16:40- Confidence gained from her PR in Houston 29:30- Her experience at the Olympic Marathon Trials 36:00- Making her first World Championship team 47:00- Joining the Relay Podcast and thoughts on current running news 58:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: The Circle The Ever Sponsors: Maui Nui Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order
Episode 621: Behind the Mic with Believe in the Run
Today I’m joined by my friends from Believe in the Run — Thomas, Meaghan, and Robbe! If you’ve been around the running world for any amount of time, you’ve likely come across their gear reviews, seen their shakeout runs at major marathons, or tuned into one of their podcasts (The Drop or Fuel for the Sole). These three are such a fun crew and bring so much energy and connection to the running community. We dive into how Believe in the Run got started, how they approach reviewing shoes and gear, what it’s like to create content in the running space, and how they’ve built a brand that so many runners love and trust. It’s a casual, fun conversation — I hope it feels like you’re just listening in on a group of friends chatting about all the things we love about running. What we talked about: 1:45- Catching up with Believe in the Run team 5:35- Diving more in the trail scene this year 11:35- Their branding and the focus on that 16:00- Favorite part of the work at Believe on The Run 41:00- Favorite shoes 43:00- Guests outside of the running community they have on the podcast Show notes: The Heart in Winter The Creative Act: A Way of Being Life’s Too Short In a Men’s World Support our Sponsors!! Episode 620: Allie Wilson – Olympian 800m Runner Breaks the News About Her New Coach!
Hey friends! I am so excited to welcome Allie Wilson to the show. She’s someone I’ve wanted to have on for a long time, and I just knew this conversation would be a great one — and it totally delivered. Allie is an 800m specialist and became an Olympian last year when she placed second at the U.S. Olympic Trials and competed in Paris in the 800. She’s also represented Team USA at the World Indoor Championships and is the 2024 U.S. Indoor Champion in the 800. Her resume is seriously impressive, but beyond all that, she’s just a joy to talk to. In this episode, we talk about her journey to the Olympics, the transition she made from soccer to track, her time training with the Atlanta Track Club under Amy and Andrew Begley, and the coaching change she’s making now — which she shares here! Allie has recently moved back to New Jersey and is taking a new approach with her training, and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings. She also shares a bit about racing the 1500 more in the future, her mindset in training and competition, and how she’s grown through the ups and downs of elite running. I absolutely loved this conversation and think you will too. If you’re enjoying the podcast, it means so much if you leave a quick rating or review wherever you listen — or support the show on Patreon for ad-free episodes and bonus content (pareton.com/lindseyhein). Thanks for being here! Episode 619: Behind the Mic with The PR Project
Hey friends! This episode of the Behind the Mic series is such a fun one. I got to sit down with my friends Tommie, Aaron, Gary from the PR Project — a running-focused media crew that’s all about amplifying culture, community, and conversation in the run space. You may know Tommie from the Relay podcast, which I also co-host, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him over the years. He brings such a creative energy to everything he does, and this whole PR Project is a great example of that. Two years ago, Tommie pitched the idea of bringing the PR Project to The Running Event (TRE) to do live interviews with athletes and brands — and it’s been growing ever since. Tommie and Gary are both sub-3 marathoners, and Aaron is chasing down that same goal, so you know there’s plenty of passion and drive here. But beyond the stats, this is just a super casual conversation among friends — a look behind the scenes at what they’re building, how they approach content creation in the running space, and what it’s like to grow something from the ground up. Right now, they’re gearing up for their Summer of Speed series, which is sponsored by Puma, and I’m so excited to see what they do with it. Hope you enjoy listening in on this one! Episode 618: Olin Hacker: USATF 5K Champion, 5th at World Indoors, and NAZ Elite Pro
On this week’s episode of I’ll Have Another, I’m joined by Olin Hacker! Olin just won the USATF 5K Championships in Indianapolis—such an exciting race to witness, and I was lucky enough to be on the mic announcing it. He’s got an impressive range of PRs: 13:08 in the 5K, 3:36 in the 1500, and a 3:56 mile. He runs professionally for HOKA NAZ Elite out in Flagstaff. We talk about what that win in Indy meant to him, how he’s navigating his professional career, and what it’s like training with a team like NAZ Elite. Olin also shares stories from his time at Wisconsin, where he followed in the footsteps of his dad—also a national champion. And yes, every sibling in his family ran in college, so we had to talk about that running gene, too. We get into the mental side of racing, his experience at World Indoors where he finished 5th in the 3K, and what he’s working toward next. What we talked about: 5:15- Winning his first national title on the roads 10:00- His family’s running legacy 16:00- His decision to join NAZ elite 20:20- How his parents cultivated a success mindset 32:00- Olin’s season so far 36:45- Championship races and strategy 44:20- Being coached by Jack Mullaney 49:00- End of podcast questions Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Geist Half Race Series Prices increase June 25, so go to geisthalf.com to sign up and learn more.
Episode 617: Behind the Mic with Jason Fitzgerald
Hey friends! We’re back with another episode of the Behind the Mic series, and I’m so excited to bring you this conversation with Jason Fitzgerald. Jason is the founder of Strength Running and the host of the Strength Running Podcast—one of the longest-running and most respected running podcasts out there. Jason has helped so many runners of all levels chase down big goals, and one of his biggest focuses is helping people become well-rounded, injury-resistant athletes through strength training and smart programming. He also offers mental training courses and resources that go beyond the physical side of the sport. We talk about his journey into podcasting and coaching, what it’s like to be a content creator in the running world, and the values that guide the way he shows up for his audience. He shares about his background as a 2:39 marathoner, some of his favorite interviews, and yes—we get into his “Jesus Take the Wheel 5K” strategy, which had me cracking up. Before we recorded this episode, I actually listened to his most recent episode on The Strength Running Podcast all about creatine, featuring Brady Holmer. If you’ve been curious about creatine—what it does, how to take it, whether it’s worth the hype—I can’t recommend that episode enough. It’s super informative but also really easy to understand, and I even found myself rewinding to catch all the nuggets. Highly recommend checking that one out after this episode! Jason is smart, thoughtful, and has a really genuine presence in this space. I loved this conversation and I think you will too. And as always, if you’re loving the show, leaving a quick rating or review goes a long way—or you can support us on Patreon for as little as $3 a month at patreon.com/lindseyhein and you’ll get all of the episodes AD FREE! Thanks so much for being here! Enjoy my conversation with Jason Fitzgerald. What we talked about: 7:45- Jason’s history in running and podcasting 18:05- Injury prevention and rehab 32:00- Translatting marathon training to 5k fitness 40:20- The mental side of training 58:00- How his own running training has changed over the years 1:03:30- What Jason still wants to learn in the sport 1:14:20- End of podcast questions Show notes: Book recommendations: Range by David Epstein The Wolf of Walstreet Strong Men Sapien The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists Why We Run The 4-Hour Workweek Tools of Titans Support our Sponsors!! Episode 616: Live at Bayshore with Dakotah Lindwurm Popehn
Dakotah Lindwurm is one of the most beloved runners of our time. It’s been so incredible to watch her grow in her career over the last several years. Seeing her make her first Olympic team in 2024 was something we all celebrated. Dakotah placed 12th at the Olympics in Paris in the marathon and continues to compete with as much enthusiasm as she did all those years ago when she bet on herself and gave being a professional runner a shot. Her journey to becoming an Olympian is a bit unconventional. She ran at a DII school, wasn’t recruited to run pro but applied for a grant and started training hard. She placed 36th at the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials – making quite the jump in 2024 to 3rd. Over the years she’s won the Grandma’s Marathon twice and has a marathon PR of 2:24:40 which she ran at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. So much to celebrate and so much to look forward to! Thank you to the Bayshore Marathon and The Traverse City Track Club for having both Dakotah and I out for this event! It was so special to be a part of it for the second year! Episode 615: Allie Buchalski on Trusting the Process, Sports Psychology, and Running with the Brooks Beasts
Hey friends! I’m so excited to share this conversation with Allie Buchalski with you. Allie runs professionally for the Brooks Beasts, focusing on the 5,000 meters, and she’s someone I’ve wanted to have on the show for a long time. She’s incredibly down-to-earth, has a great sense of humor, and brings a thoughtful perspective to racing and training. Allie ran for Furman University, where she finished second at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5K. Right out of college, she signed with Brooks, and she just re-signed with them, continuing her training under coach Danny Mackey in Seattle. She recently placed fifth—just milliseconds out of fourth—at the USATF 5K Road Championships in Indianapolis, and we recorded this episode shortly after that race. Our conversation ended up being even more reflective and grounded than what we originally planned to chat about in person. We talk about how working with a sports psychologist has shifted her mindset in racing and how that’s changed her career trajectory. Allie opens up about her love for basketball, growing up in Georgia, and the unique way she approaches racing with both intensity and joy. She also shares a bit about her goals for this season and what it means to her to represent Brooks and compete at a high level. This was one of the easiest and most natural interviews I’ve ever recorded, and I can’t wait for you to hear it! Thanks for being here, and if you enjoy the episode, please consider leaving a rating and review or joining us over on Patreon to support the show. Happy listening! What we talked about: 5:00- Her race in Indianapolis at the US 5k Champs 14:00- Her mom’s diagnosis with cancer 21:10- What’s next on Allie’s racing calendar 22:05- Growing up and finding her passion and drive in sports 27:45- Running for Furman University 35:00- The decision to sign with Brooks Beasts 50:00- Focus on nutrition 57:40- Looking ahead to USAs 1:05:00- Working with a sports psychologist 1:11:00- Celebrating the small wins 1:13:00- Hobbies outside of running 1:18:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: The Book of Thorns Heart of a Husky Running For My Life Think Like a Champion Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order
Episode 614: Behind the Mic with Matt Chittim of the Rambling Runner
Today on the show, I’m talking with my good friend, Matt Chittim. Matt is the host of the Rambling Runner Podcast—a longtime favorite where he highlights amateur athletes and occasionally brings pros on as well. You might also know him from his Road to the Trials series, which was hugely popular and so fun to follow. Matt and I have really grown up in the podcasting space together, and he’s truly one of my biggest cheerleaders. But honestly? He’s that person for so many in this space—he supports and uplifts others in such a genuine way, and it’s just who he is. He’s also the brains behind Relay, the podcast I co-host with an incredible group of people in the running world. Matt dreamed it up, pitched us all on the idea, and brought it to life with so much heart. I’m proud to be part of it and grateful that he brought me along for the ride. Outside of podcasting, Matt is a dad of two, a former college fundraiser, and a true sports enthusiast—not just running, but across the board. I always love our conversations about other sports, too. In this episode, we get into all of that—his path into podcasting, building a community, what drives him, and what he’s dreaming up next. I hope you enjoy it—and if you do, it would mean a lot if you left a quick rating and review. And of course, be sure to check out Matt’s show, The Rambling Runner, and follow him over on Instagram at @rambling_runner. All right, let’s get to it. Please enjoy my conversation with Matt Chittim. Episode 613: Serena Burla – Wins Big Sur post retirement; 2:26 marathoner, cancer survivor & Mom of 3.
Hey friends! I’m so excited to share this conversation with Serena Burla. I recently had the opportunity to emcee the Big Sur International Marathon, and as I was checking out the leaderboard, I saw Serena’s name—and I thought, wait, I know that name! Serena is a retired professional runner, and sure enough, she was out there racing—and won the marathon in 2:49. A couple weeks later, we sat down to chat all about that experience and what it’s like to race a marathon post-retirement. Serena is a 2:26 marathoner who’s represented Team USA multiple times, including at the 2017 World Championships in London. She’s also a two-time cancer survivor. In 2010, she was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in her leg. She came back from that diagnosis to run some of her fastest races ever—and then faced a recurrence of the same cancer in 2017. Through it all, she’s continued to show up with strength, optimism, and perspective. In this episode, we talk about her incredible career, her mindset through some of the hardest moments, and what life looks like now as a mom of three. Serena isn’t on social media, so if you’ve followed her running journey in the past, I think you’ll really love this update. She has such a beautiful spirit and I walked away from this conversation feeling really inspired. Big thanks to the Big Sur International Marathon for connecting us—if you haven’t checked out that race yet, add it to your list! What we talked about: 4:00- Catching up with Serena and her recent race at the Big Sur Marathon 7:00- Reflecting on Boston 2018 9:10- Her win at Big Sur 17:00- Her family 23:20- Her cancer diagnosis and battle with cancer 38:00- Her faith throughout this process 39:00- Deciding to grow her family after her cancer treatments and after her marathon career 43:10- Training leading into Big Sur 54:10- End of podcast questions Show notes: The Rose Code Hotel Flamingo Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order

She had a great little indoor season running 14:44 for the 5K and also running a 3,000 PR. Josette runs with On Athletics and works with Coaches Dathan Ritzenhein and Kelsey Quinn. We’re taking a quick break from the Behind the Mic series this week to bring you something special—an episode all about the Bayshore Marathon! I’ll be emceeing this beautiful race on Saturday, May 24th, and whether you’re running it this year or planning ahead for the future, this episode has everything you need to know. Joining me today are three awesome guests with deep connections to Bayshore. First up is Zach Ripley, a multiple-time Bayshore winner and 2:16 marathoner who ran at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. He’s part of the A to Z Running duo (alongside his wife, Andi), and he brings a wealth of knowledge about this course and how to approach it. Next, you’ll hear from Sabrina Blank, known as @thatpsychedrunner on Instagram. She’s a PhD student, host of The Psyched Runner podcast, and a multi-time Bayshore finisher in both the full and half marathons. Sabrina will also be helping emcee our live podcast event on Friday, May 23rd, which I’ll be hosting with Olympian Dakotah Popehn (Lindwurm)—so it was great to chat with her about the race and all things Traverse City. Episode 609: Emily Venters on Breaking 15 in the 5K and Her Half Marathon Debut
Today on the show, I’m joined by professional runner Emily Venters. Emily runs for Nike, lives and trains in Utah, and is coached by her college coach Kyle Kepler. This past year was a breakout season for her—her first full year as a pro—and she’s been on an incredible trajectory ever since. Emily made her half marathon debut in Houston, running 68:48 and placing seventh, even after taking a hard fall at the start of the race. She followed that up with a fifth-place finish at the U.S. Half Marathon Championships and broke 15 minutes in the indoor 5K—something that had been a longtime goal of hers. Last fall, she placed second at the Road 5K Championships and won the Sound Running Cross Country Championships. Emily’s collegiate career included time at Boise State, the University of Colorado, and the University of Utah. She’s about to start nursing school while continuing to train and race at a high level, and she thrives with a full plate. In this episode, we talk about her move up to the half marathon, when she might make the jump to the full marathon, and what it’s been like adjusting to life as a professional athlete. We also dive into her support system growing up, including the role her parents played in her journey to becoming a pro. I loved getting to know Emily—her energy, determination, and humility really shine through in this conversation. She’ll be racing at the USATF 5K Championships in Indianapolis, and I can’t wait to see how she does. What we talked about: 4:00- Starting nursing school 6:55- Emily’s half marathon debut 12:30- The decision to focus on one event going forward 19:20- Her mental health over the past few years 26:20- Her college career and professional career so far 44:00- Her nursing career goals 47:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: Silo on Apple TV Severence Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Maui Nui Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey Anderson Maple Go to andersonmaple.com and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans HERE!

Today’s episode is especially fun because I’m introducing you to a brand-new show that’s officially joined the SandyBoy Productions Podcast Network—Miles with Moms! This podcast is for moms who run, by moms who run, and it’s all about making sure mother runners never feel alone—on the run or in motherhood. The show is hosted by four amazing women: Whitney Heins, Shanna Burchett, Tricia Denardis, and Olivia Garcia—all incredibly fast, inspiring, and relatable moms who are living the running-mom life right alongside us. Whitney is the founder of The Mother Runners, a VDOT-certified coach, and a 2:54 marathoner who ran both her marathon and 1:20 half PRs in her 40s. Shanna, known as @motherhood_running on Instagram with over 120,000 followers, is a mom of six and ran a 2:44 marathon after returning to the sport in 2022 following an 11-year break. Tricia is a mom of three and a pelvic floor physical therapist who now focuses on ultras. And Olivia, a mom of two and former paramedic, has chopped over an hour off her marathon time—running a 2:57. In this episode, I introduce each host and give you a behind-the-scenes look at how Miles with Moms came to life. You can find links to all four hosts’ Instagram handles and learn more about the podcast at sandyboyproductions.com under the Miles with Moms tab. Let’s give these amazing women a warm welcome to the network, and I hope you’ll check out their show. I’m so excited to have them on board—and can’t wait for what’s ahead! Episode 607: Charlotte Purdue on Overcoming Setbacks in the Olympic Year and Preparing for London
Today on the show, I’m excited to welcome back Charlotte Purdue! Charlotte is a professional runner from Great Britain who now runs for Puma, and this is actually her third time joining the podcast. She was first on in Episode 190 after becoming the third-fastest British female marathoner ever at the time, running 2:25 at the London Marathon. Then, in Episode 382, she came back after finishing ninth at the 2022 Boston Marathon. Since then, Charlotte has continued to make huge strides in her career, lowering her marathon personal best to 2:22 at the Berlin Marathon. She earned a spot on the British team for the Paris Olympics—a dream years in the making. Unfortunately, just a couple of weeks before the Games, she rolled her ankle and had to make the heartbreaking decision to withdraw. I still remember seeing her announcement and feeling so sad for her. In this conversation, Charlotte shares how she bounced back from that disappointment, what her recovery looked like (including getting a new puppy to lift her spirits!), and the new perspective she’s carrying into this next season. She’s running the London Marathon this weekend—her second race since returning from injury—and I can’t wait to see how she does. Charlotte has such a grounded, positive mindset about running and life, and it was so great to catch up with her. Thanks so much for tuning in—please enjoy my conversation with Charlotte Purdue! What we talked about: 4:35- Catching up with Charlotte 11:10- Charlotte’s heartbreak with the Olympics 19:50- Her comeback after injury and getting back to racing 23:25- Goals for the London Marathon 27:30- Being sponsored by Puma 43:00- Last thoughts ahead of the London Marathon Show notes: Fourth Wing Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Anderson Maple Go to andersonmaple.com and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off Register for the Bayshore Marathon at bayshoremarathon.org Indy Mini Go to indymini.com to learn more! Episode 606: Behind the Mic Jonathan Levitt of For the Long Run Podcast
Welcome back to this special Behind the Mic series on I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein, where I’m interviewing fellow podcasters and running media voices that I love listening to. Today’s guest is Jonathan Levitt, host of the For the Long Run podcast. If you’re already a listener of his show, you know it’s all about exploring the why—what keeps athletes going and how they keep growing, both in sport and in life. Jonathan’s had on some of the best in the sport, and his podcast dives into the connection between running, mindset, and life beyond the finish line. Jonathan and I have been friends in this industry for a long time. He’s been consistently encouraging, helpful, and supportive—and I have to give him a big shoutout for helping make this series happen. He even hustled to bring Boulderthon on board as a sponsor, and is personally sponsoring a few episodes through For the Long Run as well. So if you’re loving this series, you can thank him for that! In this episode, we talk about his own running journey, including what it meant to him to break three hours in the marathon—and even what it didn’t mean. He actually helped me work through some of my own feelings around that goal, and I think his perspective will resonate with a lot of listeners. We also get into the podcasting business, lessons from years in this space, and how he’s approached his work with InsideTracker and other ventures. Jonathan lives in Boulder, Colorado, and will be at Boulderthon this fall—along with some of your other favorite names in the running and podcast world. I hope you enjoy this conversation and come away with a little inspiration and insight into what keeps runners, and creators, going strong. All right, friends—please enjoy my conversation with Jonathan Levitt. What we talked about: 6:30- Catching up with Jon 7:30- His goals to have adventures with running throughout the summer 9:25- Marathoning history 24:25- His career in the podcasting space and beyond 37:00- Jon’s experience with ADHD and finding it to be a superpower 53:00- Jon’s podcast, For the Long Run 59:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: North: Finding My Way While Running the Appalachian Trail Parks and Rec Never Enough: From Barista to Billionaire Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein LIVE! at Bottleworks Boulderthon Use the code “hein20” for $20 off the marathon or half marathon Go listen to For the Long Run Podcast wherever you get your podcasts or at forthelong.run
Episode 605: Katie Asmuth on Grit, Comebacks, and the Power of Community on the Trail
Today on the show, I’m joined by Katie Asmuth, one of the co-hosts of the Trail Network podcast, which is part of the SandyBoy Productions family. If you haven’t listened to Trail Network yet—this is your sign. The show is hosted by four incredible women in the trail running space: Rachel Drake, Leah Yingling, Katie Asmuth, and Hilary Yang. Together, they bring to life the untold stories of magical moments on and off the trail—capturing the heart of trail running, friendship, and connection. A few standout episodes I’d recommend: episode 50 with Hillary Yang and Sarah Attar—who competed for Saudi Arabia in both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and is now a celebrated photographer—and episode 46, where Leah talks with Alexis Crellin about raising resilient kids while chasing big goals. That one really hit home for me. Now, let’s talk about Katie. She’s the mother of two, a nurse practitioner, and a professional trail runner for HOKA. Katie has three top-10 finishes at Western States—including a 5th-place finish in 2021, 9th in 2022 (which she shares more about in this episode), and 4th in 2023. She recently ran a self-supported FKT through Joshua Tree and is getting back to racing after overcoming some major injuries over the past couple of years. She spent several years with Saucony and is now part of the HOKA team, which she’s really excited about. Katie lives and trains in Mammoth Lakes, California, and if you’re not already following her, you should be—she’s @kt_asmuth on Instagram. This episode is short and sweet, but I left the conversation so inspired by her energy, grit, and openness. I hope it does the same for you—and I hope you’ll check out her podcast while you’re at it! All right, friends—enjoy my conversation with Katie Asmuth. What we talked about: 7:00- Living in Mammoth 11:40- Her running journey 18:30- The Trail Network Podcast 26:15- Balancing busy seasons in life 40:00- Her FKT at Joshua Tree 47:45- End of podcast questions Show notes: Majestica Listen to The Trail Network Podcast Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Indy Mini Go to indymini.com to learn more! Episode 604: Behind The Mic with Angie & Trevor Spencer of Marathon Training Academy
We’re continuing the Behind the Mic series where I’m chatting with fellow podcasters in the running space. I hope you’re enjoying these conversations as much as I am. Today, I’m talking with Angie and Trevor Spencer, the husband-and-wife duo behind Marathon Training Academy—truly one of the original running podcasts out there. They launched the show way back in 2010 (yes, seriously—2010), and they’ve grown a massive community and business through it. Angie and Trevor have traveled all over the world running races, hosting events, and supporting athletes through their coaching programs. If you’re looking for coaching, you can check out all they offer at marathontrainingacademy.com. Angie has run 72 marathons—including six ultras—with a PR of 3:19. She’s run a marathon in every single U.S. state and has qualified for Boston in all 50 states. She’s a USATF Level 1 and RRCA Level 2 certified coach. Trevor, who once hated running, now has 24 marathons, a 50K, and 27 half marathons under his belt. He’s run races in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, Japan, the UK, Slovakia—you name it. He’s passionate about using running as a way to explore the world and connect with people, and that comes through in everything he does behind the mic. Their podcast recently celebrated its 15-year anniversary (check out their April 2nd episode for that milestone!), which is absolutely incredible. Their longevity and consistency are a testament to their love for this sport and the community they’ve built. In this episode, we talk about their journey with the podcast and running, parenting three boys, and I couldn’t resist asking them for some tips on raising boys—since they’re a few steps ahead of me. I really appreciated their honest insights and the warmth they brought to this conversation. If you’re enjoying this series, a quick rating and review on iTunes or Spotify goes a long way—it helps more people find the show and lets me know what’s resonating with you. All right friends, please enjoy my conversation with Angie and Trevor Spencer. What we talked about: 4:00- Reflecting on the history of running podcasts 11:30- Their progression in the space 16:30- A look behind the scenes producing a podcast 29:00- Their marathon careers 43:45- Their favorite marathons that they raced 54:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: The Let Them Theory Building a Story Brand Blue Like Jazz Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein LIVE! at Bottleworks Boulderthon Use the code “hein20” for $20 off the marathon or half marathon Go listen to For the Long Run Podcast wherever you get your podcasts or at forthelong.run
Episode 603: Jess McClain on Racing With Perspective Ahead of the Boston Marathon
We’ve got Jess McClain on the show today! She’ll be running her fifth marathon in Boston next weekend—can you believe Marathon Monday is almost here? This will be Jess’s second time on the podcast; the first was shortly after the 2024 Olympic Marathon Trials, where she placed fourth and had everyone wondering, “Wait, who is this woman?” But Jess definitely didn’t come out of nowhere. She’s a former 5,000m standout, an All-American at Stanford, and a high school star coached by Dr. Jeff Messer—who, by the way, was on this podcast as part of our coaching series last year (check that one out if you haven’t – episode 578!). Jess took a break from professional running during COVID but was previously training with the Brooks Beasts. She’s now back, stronger than ever, and her fourth-place finish at the Trials came with a four-minute PR—running 2:25:46. Since then, she’s gone on to place fourth in both the 10,000m at the Olympic Trials on the track and the USA Half Marathon Championships. Fourth place again and again—but what stands out about Jess is the grace she shows after each race. In this episode, she shares how she’s taken the pressure off chasing podiums and learned to embrace racing for more than just the result. Jess ran her first major last fall in New York, where she placed eighth in 2:27:19. Now she’s headed to Boston for her second major, carrying lessons learned and a fresh mindset. She also won the USA 10K title last year at the Great Cow Harbor 10K and has been back on the track—something she didn’t think she’d return to. In addition to running professionally for Brooks, Jess works full-time with the Love Up and Love Pup Foundations. The Love Up Foundation supports children in foster care and spreads love and kindness in the community. Her energy is incredible, and I just love celebrating all that she’s doing in and beyond the sport. Can’t wait to see what she does in Boston! What we talked about: 5:00- How training for Boston has looked 16:45- Finding peace in the results 30:45- Breaking 31 in the 10k alongside Emily Infeld 37:00- What it has looked like in her return to professional running 54:50- Running for Brooks 58:00- Thoughts on Grand Slam Show notes: Episode 578 with Dr. Jeff Messer (Jess’ high school coach!!) Episode 602: Ali Feller – Behind the Mic with the Voice Behind Ali on the Run
Today we’re continuing the Behind the Mic series, and I’m so excited to share this conversation with my friend Ali Feller. I know for a fact that almost every one of you listening right now probably tunes into her podcast too—the Ali on the Run Show. Like Tina Muir and I, Ali and I grown up in this podcasting space together. She’s been a consistent voice in the running community, but her influence goes back even further. Before launching her podcast, Ali built a huge following through her blog, writing about running, Crohn’s disease, and life in New York City. That loyal audience followed her to the podcast, where she’s built a truly massive show and an incredibly supportive community. Beyond the podcast, Ali is a race announcer, live podcast host, and has done broadcasting work with major events. She works closely with the New York Road Runners (NYRR) and the Boston Athletic Association (BAA). A few years ago, Ali was diagnosed with breast cancer and shared her journey so openly with her community. She continued to work through it all, and the love and support she received from her friends and listeners really lifted her up. We talk about that journey in this episode, along with her career, motherhood, and what it’s like to be on the other side of the mic for once. Ali is also the announcer for the Boulderthon this fall—one of the fastest growing races in America, ranked a top 10 fall marathon by Runner’s World and USA Today. Think big city energy meets small-town charm, with a gorgeous Pearl Street finish. If you’re planning to run, don’t wait—spots are filling fast! The race is September 28th, and you can save $20 on the half marathon or marathon with the code HEIN20 at boulderthon.org. If you enjoy this series or anything we’re doing on I’ll Have Another, please consider leaving a quick rating and review. It makes a huge difference. Episode 601: Grant Fisher on Making History with Two Olympic Bronze Medals
Really excited to bring you another track star on the podcast—Grant Fisher joins us today! Grant had the year of his life in 2024, bringing home two bronze medals from the Paris Olympics in both the 5,000m and the 10,000m. He made history as the first American ever to medal in both of those events at the same Olympic Games. Pretty incredible. He also competed in the Tokyo Olympics, where he placed ninth in the 5,000m and fifth in the 10,000m. Since then, he’s continued to level up. Just this year, he ran three indoor races back-to-back-to-back: the 1500m, the 3000m, and the 5000m. In the process, he broke two WORLD RECORDS—in the 3000m and the 5000m—two weeks in a row. Grant runs for Nike and is now gearing up for the Grand Slam series. You’ll catch him in Kingston this weekend, followed by the Miami Slam and the Philadelphia Slam, all leading into USA’s and hopefully the World Championships later this season. It was a blast to get to know Grant—not just as an elite runner, but as someone who grew up in a super athletic family. He ran for Stanford and has two siblings who also compete at a high level, though in soccer. I’ve wanted to have him on the show for a long time, and if you heard my interview with Kara Goucher and Des Linden earlier this year, you might remember me saying, “I really want to interview Grant Fisher.” Well, here we are! Episode 600: Behind the Mic with Podcaster Tina Muir
Welcome to the running podcaster series! I’m bringing you a collection of conversations with fellow podcasters in the running space—people I know you already love and maybe a few new voices you’ll be excited to discover. My hope is to link arms with these wonderful humans and share their stories and perspectives with you. You might listen to some of them every week, but don’t often get to hear them on the other side of the mic. I think that’s going to be a fun shift for you. We’re kicking things off with my friend Tina Muir, host of the Running for Real podcast. If you’ve followed her over the last few years—really since around 2021—you’ve probably noticed the way she’s used her platform as a vehicle for social change, especially in advocating for the health of our environment. Tina has raised the bar for major races across the country, including the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, the TCS New York City Marathon, the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, and the AJC Peachtree Road Race, helping these events improve their sustainability efforts. She serves on the board of directors for both Running USA and Earth Day 365. Tina is also the co-author of Becoming a Sustainable Runner: A Guide to Running for Life, Community, and Planet, which she wrote with Zoë Rom. If you’re interested in using running as a force for good, I highly recommend checking it out. She’s a former elite runner, a mom of two, and someone I’ve known since the early days of my own podcasting journey. When I first started, she was hosting the Run to the Top podcast. In 2017, she launched Running for Real, and we’ve kind of grown up in this industry together. It’s been so fun to watch her lean more and more into the things she cares deeply about. She’s still so connected—if not more than ever—to the running community, and she’s carved out a powerful space around sustainability and advocacy within that. Tina always brings a call to action when she speaks—not because it’s rehearsed, but because that’s who she is. She leads with her heart and shares what matters to her. More than anything, I hope you enjoy this conversation and that it kicks off this series in the best possible way—with someone who cares just as much about running as you and I do. Want to listen to this show ad-free? Head over to patreon.com/lindseyhein to support the show for as little as $3 a month and get all episodes without any ad interuptions. All right friends, please enjoy my conversation with Tina Muir. Episode 599: Brittany Brown – 2024 Olympic Bronze Medalist & 2019 World Silver Medalist in the 200m
My guest today is Brittany Brown, a standout sprinter who has made waves on the international stage. Brittany is our 2024 bronze medalist in the 200 meters from the Paris Olympics and a 200-meter World Silver Medalist from the 2019 World Championships in Doha. In 2023, she competed in the 100 meters at the World Championships and finished seventh. Brittany’s ran for the University of Iowa, where she earned 11 All-American honors. Most recently, she competed at the inaugural Athlos track meet in the fall, where she won the 200 meters, beating none other than Olympic champion and meet co-founder, Gabby Thomas. Brittany also raced in both the 100 meters that day. Looking ahead, she’ll be a key athlete in the highly anticipated Grand Slam Track series, which kicks off in Jamaica, followed by stops in Miami and Philadelphia. I can’t wait to see her race at these exciting meets! Brittany is coached by Boogie Johnson, and during this episode, we dive into her journey from her days at the University of Iowa to turning pro. She shares what it was like to run for Adidas for a while and how her transition to Nike has shaped her career. We also touch on some health challenges she has faced and overcome along the way. It was such a joy interviewing Brittany—seriously, I didn’t want the conversation to end. I’m officially a fan for life! Watching her race is a thrill, and with World Championships coming up this year, as well as USAs, it’s going to be an exciting time to follow her journey. While we usually focus on marathons here, track season is upon us, and I’m thrilled to bring you these conversations with some of our incredible track stars. Make sure you’re tuning into Grand Slam Track to watch Brittany in action! What we talked about: 7:00- Reflecting on her Olympic experience 24:25- Her coach and training setup 38:00- Brittany’s health complications 1:00:00- Emotions after winning her Olympic medal 1:02:45- Athlos and Grand Slam track 1:15:05- End of podcast questions Show notes: Brittany on Instagram Open by Andre Agassi A Completely Different Game by Emma Hayes Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Anderson Maple Go to andersonmaple.com and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus
Episode 598: Taylor Roe – 2025 USATF Half Marathon Champ in 1:07:22
I’m excited to bring you this conversation with Taylor Roe, who recently won the 2025 USATF Half Marathon Championships with an impressive time of 67 minutes and 22 seconds on a tough course in Atlanta. This victory was a personal best for Taylor, improving her time by over a minute. What makes this win even more remarkable is that it came as a surprise to many. Taylor has mentioned in several post-race interviews that her goal was to make the team, and winning the race wasn’t necessarily on her radar. But she made it happen. Along with Taylor, Emma Grace Hurley and Amanda Vestri—both of whom have also been guests on this show recently—secured spots on the team as well. This means we’ll be sending a very strong trio of athletes to the World Championships in the half marathon. Taylor is part of Puma Elite in the Raleigh-Durham area, which is exciting for me personally since I also live in the region. She’s coached by Alistair and Amy Cragg. Interestingly, Taylor debuted in the half marathon at the Houston half, and we get to talk about that experience, as well as her decision to race in the Half Marathon Championships. While Taylor loves the track, she’s currently focused on the 10,000 meters and gearing up for some races on the track. Taylor ran for Oklahoma State University, where she was an NCAA Indoor Champion, the 2023 Big 12 Champion in the 5,000 meters, and runner-up in the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She credits her college coach, Dave Smith, for playing a significant role in shaping her career. Last summer, she finished eighth in the 5,000 meters at the US Olympic Trials, and we all know that Taylor’s path will eventually lead to the marathon. But for now, she’s focused on maximizing her potential on the track before taking that step. It’s clear that an exciting career lies ahead for Taylor Roe, and I’m honored to have had her on the podcast this week. What we talked about 7:00- Recapping her win at the US Half champs and pro career so far 14:45- How she feels racing on big stages 18:10- Recapping how the race played out at the US Half Champs 30:00- The decision to join Puma 37:20- Where the world champs will be 38:25- What’s next for Taylor 45:00- Having Amy and Alistair as her coaches 47:00- Her college experience 53:30- End of podcast questions Show notes: Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order
Episode 597: Kenny Bednarek – Two-Time Olympic Silver Medalist, World Championship Silver Medalist, 10-Time Diamond League Champion
I’m beyond excited to bring a track athlete to the podcast today—two-time Olympic silver medalist and world championship silver medalist, Kenny Bednarek! He won silver in the 200 meters at the Tokyo Olympics, the Paris Olympics, and the 2022 World Championships. Not to mention, he’s also a 10-time Diamond League champion and runs for Nike. If you’ve seen the Sprint documentary, you’ll recognize Kenny, as he was highlighted in season two, which was really cool to watch. Aside from his incredible accomplishments on the track, Kenny is also an advocate for adoption. He is from Wisconsin. We talked about his journey, which includes running at the community college level for Indian Hills Community College and then turning pro after a year. One of the coolest parts of this episode was when I found out how excited my kids were about this interview—they were definitely more excited about talking to a sprinter than any long-distance runner I’ve had on. So, I made sure to sneak in a few questions from them, which was a fun twist! We also dove into a bit of football talk because Kenny actually used to play the sport. Fun fact: his high school team won both the state championships in track and field and football during his senior year. Kenny is also gearing up for the Grand Slam series as a racer—this is the new competition series that Michael Johnson’s team is putting on, and it’s going to be really exciting! The first event, the Kingston Slam, takes place from April 4th to 6th. Episode 596: Calli Hauger-Thackery – 66:58 in the Half Marathon Heading to the Boston Marathon!
Today on the show, we’re joined by the incredible Calli Hauger-Thackery, and wow, she’s definitely one to watch right now. She just ran a massive PR in Japan, clocking in a time of 66:58 for the half marathon, which placed her second. Recently, she also returned to the track for the first time in eight years, where she raced indoors. Calli’s versatility as an athlete is truly something to admire. She made her marathon debut at the McKirdy Micro Marathon in 2023, where she won with an impressive 2:22:17. That victory set the stage for an incredible year ahead. Not long after, she was selected to represent Great Britain at the Paris Olympics, although she had to DNF that race due to a variety of challenges. We dive into all of that in the episode. But Calli didn’t stop there. She came back strong, running a PR of 2:21:24 in Berlin, and then went on to win the California International Marathon (CIM) last year with a 2:24:28, including a thrilling sprint to the finish. She’s sponsored by Nike and coached by her husband, Nick, and she’s been crushing some truly fast times. We recorded this before the Gate River Run, but Calli went on the win that last weekend. She’ll also be running the TEN 10k on the track and is preparing for her first Boston Marathon in April. It’s going to be an exciting time for her, and she’s just such a positive presence in the running world, always bringing great energy and showing up alongside all of these amazing women running incredible times. Enjoy! Episode 595: Kellyn Taylor – New Chapter and Big Plans for 2025; Next Up: USA Half Marathon Champs This Weekend
Today, my guest is Kellyn Taylor, and I’m so happy to have her back on the podcast! Kellyn is a returning guest, and she’s been on the show multiple times over the eight years I’ve been hosting. Most recently, we had her on just before the Olympic marathon trials last February. Kellyn’s got some exciting races coming up. She’s gearing up for the US Half Marathon Championships this weekend, and she recently ran the Mesa Half Marathon, where she had an amazing race, finishing second with a time of 69:15. Right now, Kellyn is also training for Boston, where she’ll be running this spring. She’s also got the New York City Half on her schedule. So, lots of great races ahead! Kellyn ran for Hoka NAZ Elite for a decade, and we’ve all watched her and that team grow and achieve incredible things over the years. It feels like I’ve kind of grown up alongside her in the industry. But this past year, Hoka made the decision to drop Kellyn, along with Steph Bruce and Lauren Hagans, some of the team’s original members. We talk with Kellyn about how she’s processed that change over the last few months, what’s been going on in her world since, and what new shoes she’s trying out. We also dive into the topic of ageism, because as Kellyn puts it, nobody gets to decide when your career ends—only you get to decide that. Last year was definitely a tough one for Kellyn. I think she called it a “hard year but a decent year”—she says it in the episode, but it was a year of recovery after some injuries. Despite that, she managed to place 15th at the US Olympic Marathon Trials, and then she went on to place sixth in the 10,000 meters at the US Trials. After that, she placed 10th in New York, running a 2:27:59. That was actually her worst finish ever at New York, but it’s still incredible. She’s always been in the top 10 there, and it was her fifth time racing the course. I’m really excited for Kellyn and what’s ahead for her in 2025. She’s got big goals and is looking forward to trying new things this year. I’ll definitely be cheering hard for her. So, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Kellyn Taylor. What we talked about: 3:00- Catching up with Kellyn 5:05- Running the half marathon championships this weekend 12:50- The cuts from HOKA and reflections on her past few years 18:00- NYC Marathon 22:00- Looking ahead to the Boston Marathon 34:00- What’s exciting Kellyn in life and in running 37:45- Her kids and family 44:00- What shoes she is trying out 46:20- What her future with sponsorships looks like 50:00- Favorite memories over her career so far 52:00- Her plans to race trails 54:00- End of podcast questions Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Anderson Maple Go to andersonmaple.com and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off
Episode 594: Annie Frisbie – 2:26:18 Marathoner Heading Back to Boston!
In this episode, we’re sitting down with professional marathoner Annie Frisbie, who runs for Puma and has been with them since 2021. Annie made her marathon debut that same year at the 2021 New York City Marathon, where she ran an impressive 2:26:18 and finished in seventh place. I’m not sure why it took me this long to get Annie on the podcast, but I’m so glad we finally made it happen! Annie’s been recovering from a hamstring injury after the Chicago Marathon this past fall, where she ran a solid 2:27:52. But now, she’s gearing up for her second Boston Marathon, and I can’t wait to see how she tackles that iconic course a second time around. We all know how much we learn from our first time running Boston, so it’ll be interesting to hear about what she’s doing differently this year. Annie trains with the Minnesota Distance Elite team, alongside one of our favorites, Dakota Lindwurm, who’s also a great friend and training partner of Annie’s. Before her professional career, Annie ran for Iowa State, and we get into that a bit too. It was such a pleasure to sit down and chat with Annie, and I think you’ll enjoy getting to know her in this episode. What we talked about: 3:00- Gearing up for the Boston Marathon! 10:00- What her recovery looks like from injuries 21:45- Sub 3 project with Puma 23:40- What’s ahead for Annie 27:00- Her race tactics and workouts that she loves 30:00- Reflections on the Olympic Trials 34:00- Annie’s marathoning career 45:20- Training in Minnesota 49:00- Training plans for the winter Show notes: Books recommended Game of Thrones Series Open Shows recommended: The Boys The Bear White Lotus Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 30% off your order
Episode 593: Amanda Vestri – 67:35 in the Half Marathon in Houston
I’m so excited to share this conversation with Amanda Vestri, who is an absolute joy to interview. She’s got a lot to say about her goals with running and how her mindset has evolved over time. It was inspiring hearing her talk about how she views the sport and what’s ahead for her. Recently, Amanda ran an impressive 67:35 at the Houston Half Marathon, marking her second-ever half. Her debut was in Orlando, where she won and ran 68:12. She was initially supposed to run the Valencia Half, known for its speed, but due to an injury that popped up just weeks before, she had to pull out. Instead, she raced in Orlando and then in Houston, which led to an amazing result. At Houston, she finished as the second American behind Weini Kelati, and fourth overall. With the Half Marathon Championships coming up in Atlanta this March, it’s going to be exciting to see Amanda, Weini, and many other fast women battling it out. The field will be stacked! Amanda is sponsored by Brooks and runs with ZAP Fitness. She ran for Syracuse University after initially starting her college career at Iowa State. In our conversation, she reflects on her journey post-college and how it wasn’t quite what she expected. The path to finding the right team and sponsorship wasn’t smooth at first, but ZAP Fitness really gave her the opportunity she needed. And now she has a sponsorship with Brooks! Speaking of her sponsorship with Brooks, she shares a wild story about signing her deal just an hour before the Olympic Trials, which is something I found so interesting. Amanda also had an amazing result at the Olympic Trials in the 10,000 meters, finishing fifth while coming off a COVID recovery, which is an incredible accomplishment given the competition. She currently lives in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, where ZAP Fitness is based, and it’s always a pleasure to chat with her. I know when she runs her first marathon, it’s going to be something special. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! Thanks for being here and enjoy my chat with Amanda Vestri. What we talked about: 3:00- Reflections on her first year as a pro 9:45- Her recent half marathon success 25:10- How she is feeling walking away from Houston 29:50- Heading into the half marathon champs 35:00- Other upcoming races 43:00- Her partnership with Brooks 51:00- Her college experience and turning pro 1:10:20- End of podcast questions Show notes: Just the Nicest Couple Elin Hilderbrand’s books Mary Higgins Clark books Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Take on Barilla’s Protein Pasta Winter Energy Challenge on the Strava Fitness App Complete 10 days of movement for your Barilla Pasta reward! Episode 592: Hannah Dederick – Paralympian, Marathoner, and Trailblazer in Para-Sport
Today, we have Paralympian Hannah Dederick on the show. Hannah is a two-time Paralympian and a wheelchair athlete in the T-54 class. She competed in the Tokyo Paralympics at just 18 years old, making her the youngest wheelchair athlete at those Games. In Tokyo, she placed fourth in the 100 meters. At the Paris Paralympics, she competed in the 100, 400, and 800 meters, finishing sixth in the 100, fourth in the 400, and seventh in the 800, making it to all three event finals. In addition to her Paralympic achievements, Hannah is a three-time marathoner, having competed in the New York, Boston, and Chicago marathons. She also made history by winning the first-ever National Collegiate Wheelchair Championship in the 100 meters at Hayward Field. This was a major milestone, as it marked the first time there had been a National Collegiate Wheelchair Championship, alongside other events like basketball and tennis. Big progress is being made in the world of para-sport! Hannah’s story is truly incredible. Born in China with spina bifida, she was adopted at the age of four from an orphanage. She discovered para-sport at the age of 12 through her local Shriners Hospital, and from there, the rest is history. She has been competing in para-sport for over 10 years now, making her world stage debut at just 16 years old. Currently, she is studying at the University of Illinois. Hannah’s journey is remarkable, and I’m excited for you to hear her story. I hope this conversation not only inspires you but also opens your eyes to the world of para-sport. Episode 591: Emily Infeld – New Chapter with Brooks Running
I’m excited to share that my guest on today’s podcast is Emily Infeld. We all love Emily! She’s a regular here on the I’ll Have Another Podcast, and it’s always such a pleasure to have her back on. My favorite story about Emily goes way back to 2016, when I first started this podcast. I had this idea that maybe I could get some professional athletes to come on the show, and Emily was one of the very first pros to say yes. It’s been really cool to see how far both of us have come since then. As I’ve progressed in my podcasting journey, I’ve been able to cheer Emily on, watch her grow, and see all the incredible things she’s been doing in the sport. Not only has she achieved amazing things on the track, but she’s also become such a powerful advocate for mental health, which is something that resonates with so many people. Emily is one of the most real, authentic people I know in this sport, and I’m excited to share this conversation with you. For a little background, Emily is a 2015 World Silver Medalist in the 10,000 meters, and a 2018 Silver Medalist at the US Cross Country Championships. She’s represented Team USA six times, and she competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was with Nike for a long time (over 12 years!!), and just recently announced that she’ll be joining the Brooks Running team. Emily is one of those people who is so easy to talk to—kind, genuine, and you feel that authenticity in every conversation with her. It really comes through in this interview. So, please enjoy my conversation with the wonderful Emily Infeld! What we talked about: 3:15- Emily’s new partnership with Brooks 5:05- Emily’s goals going forward 12:55- Reflections on her Olympic Trials in 2024 19:50- Training with Team Boss 23:00- Max’s 5k streak 31:00- Emily’s new training setup 41:30- Reflections on her time with Nike and Bowerman 50:00- End of podcast chat! Episode 590: Weini Kelati – Another American Record in the Half Marathon (1:06:09)
Today on the podcast, I’m excited to share my conversation with American record holder Weini Kelati. She recently ran 66:09, breaking her own American record in the half marathon at the Houston Half Marathon, where she placed second. Weini is an absolute force in distance running, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. Can you even imagine what will happen when she finally lines up for her first marathon? There are so many exciting things ahead for her career. Weini was the 10,000 meter champion at the Olympic Trials last summer, and she went on to place eighth in the 10,000 at the Olympics. She’s an Under Armour athlete, coached and represented by Stephen Haas, and trains with the Dark Sky Distance group in Flagstaff. In 2014, when she was just 17 years old, Weini traveled from her home country of Eritrea to Eugene, Oregon, to compete in the 3,000 meters at the World Junior Championships. After the race, she made the decision to stay in the U.S. She found a place to live in Leesburg, Virginia, and went on to finish high school, all while running for her high school team, getting a job, and learning English—all completely independently at just 17. She then went on to run for the University of New Mexico, where she won the 2019 NCAA Cross-Country Championship. I have to say, this conversation is not long enough to cover Weini’s entire journey, but she’s been through a lot and has worked incredibly hard to get where she is today. I can’t wait for her to write a book one day because it’s going to be an amazing story. Anyway, I hope you’re as excited as I am to hear this conversation. Big thanks to Stephen Haas and his agency for making this happen. Enjoy the conversation! Episode 589: Dani Jones – Training Changes and Joining The Very Nice Track Club!
Today on the podcast, we’re excited to welcome back Dani Jones, a professional runner for New Balance. Dani has recently announced a significant change in her training: she’ll be joining the Very Nice Track Club, where she’ll be coached by Ron Warhurst and Sierra Willis. Before this move, Dani had been training with Team Boss and Coach Joe Bosshard since graduating from the University of Colorado, where she was a four-time NCAA champion. Dani reflects on her time with Team Boss and how incredible of a team environment they had there. In this episode, Dani shares her plans to experiment with different race distances. Last summer, she ran a personal best in the 1500 meters, running a time of 4:00 flat, and placed ninth at the U.S. Olympic Trials in both 2021 and 2024. Now at 28 years old, Dani is gearing up for the indoor season and looking forward to a new chapter in her career with this change in both her training environment and coaching team. With so much potential still ahead, Dani has a lot to be excited about. For those interested in hearing Dani’s first appearance on the podcast, our first conversation (episode 256!!) with Dani was back in 2020 when she had just turned pro and was navigating the strange times of the COVID era. It was great to catch up and hear about all the exciting changes in her career since then. Enjoy my conversation with Dani Jones!
