I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. The NBA is going to release the first-half of the season tomorrow and I hope it's in pencil. Think about it. Where are the Sacramento Kings, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors going to play. If the San Francisco 49er's can't play at home outside, is the Governor really going to let the basketball guys play... indoors? What will the NFL say about that? Interesting right? Look, I really like Buddy and you'll hear more about that in today's rant but Monte McNair, Sacramento Kings General Manager says all is good. I don't think so. Covid is beginning to rear it's ugly head in the NBA just weeks before the season is supposed to start and some of the players are complaining about having to play. Buddy wasn't happy about playing off the bench last year but that strategy was working. NBA players need to pay attention to what's going on around them. Fans are frustrated, stretching to buy or keep their tickets if they choose to continue to keep them. Some are tired of multimillionaire athletes complaining while they have to scrape together are few bucks and skip a meal to attend a game. And then there's the Sacramento Kings doing what they do so frequently. Starting over. Again. New GM, fairly new coach and staff and a new mix of players now looking at a different strategy. Or not. Today I have the incredible privilege of interviewing Gerry Davis, Major League Baseball Umpire extraordinaire. 39 years behind the plate and on his way to 5000 games. Unbelievable. He's only 43 games away. 2021 should get him there. What's equally unbelievable are the stories he can tell from that many years. I mean think about it. What he's seen. Here we go again. I would rather not have to be ranting on this but is it not predictable? The Miami Herald is reporting on an incident where Antonio Brown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or I should say Tampa Bay Bradys, wide receiver had a bike throwing incident a couple of weeks before signing with the team. No police report was filed as the security guard was afraid of retaliation. (Perfectly understood!) The team acknowledges they were aware of it as well. Uh oh. Seriously, the NBA draft is today. And many reporters and sports news outlets are going to grade the picks and trades. Right? Who the heck knows what some player coming out of college is really going to do? Think of all the A+ grades that were given to players that aren't even distant memories any longer. That headline says it all. So the NFL's New Orleans Saints are going to get fined and punished for the players not having masks on in the locker room after the Tampa Bay game. Think about that for a minute. A huge penalty for not wearing masks in the locker room with the guys on your very own team. After three hours on the field, sweating, coughing, spitting, touching, bleeding with another group of guys that aren't even from the same state! So, for all the world to see, a confirmed Coronavirus case named Justin Turner intentionally goes out on the field to celebrate a World Series victory hugging and kissing after being pulled from the game for a positive test. Nearly as bad are the moves by the Tampa Bay Rays for their apparent reliance on what appeared to be analytics vs common sense and solid coaching in decisions made that likely cost them the game.
