My guest this week is Sharawn Tipton, Chief People Officer at LiveRamp. Over the last few years, LiveRamp has developed a strategic and very intentional approach to onboarding, and Sharawn has a lot of insight and advice to share. S2 Ep 88False Hope
ECongratulations, you got the job! No one ever forgets the first time they heard (or read) those words. So happy to report that Shelley’s GenZ is officially employed. BIG SHOUT OUT to David Smith at ENMAX for making the referral. Insights This Week Recruiter Abuse. Some candidates can be down right nasty and the keyboard becomes their weapon of choice. Don't put up with a disgusting response from a candidate, make your HR Manager deal with them. LinkedIn triumphantly proclaims they are helping to solve DEI by alerting recruiters with Diversity Nudge. It only applies to male/female ratio, so….. the balloon just popped. At least they are trying. Post the pay range. Colorado led the way, so let's hear what happened 18 months later when you compare them to a state without pay transparency. 7 deadly sins of interviewing. These examples are cringe worthy yet we’ve all been witness to what happens when hiring managers are let loose with no interview guide. Crying on LinkedIn; the ultimate in employer branding.

Chatbot Evolution w/ Sumit Gupta
EYour life really isn't complete until you've gotten a complete breakdown of the past, present, and future of recruiting chatbots. That's why we asked PandoLogic CTO Sumit Gupta on the podcast to get a breakdown. Turns out, that chatbot may not be the correct label, considering job seekers have interviews with virtual Brad Pitt and Darth Vader to look forward to. Yeah, really. You gotta listen to this episode if you want a real taste of the future of recruiting. Or at least one company's vision of it.

What the hell does that mean? The boys dig into his theses and tackle a wide variety of high frequency hiring issues plaguing so many companies these days in the process. Entelo & Pymetrics Panic Sale?

This episode could be called "Three Acquisitions and a Vendor Who's Lost Their Damned Mind!" Silkroad Technologies acquired Entelo, Harver bought pymetrics and Mitratech gobbled up TalentReef. Can you guess which acquisition we like? Gotta listen. Then we take a trip to Crazy Town, where old-timey job distribution service provider eQuest has made the mother of all pivots, and the boys can't quite make sense of it (but want a hit of whatever they're smoking'). Oh, and Home Depot ends the show with a bit of sanity and common sense. Enjoy!

Next on the horizon is social media checks; time to clean up your ancient twitter account. If you want a salary increase, you have to quit. You are losing money if you stay. For those who don't know Tim, he was also the search engine optimization brains at Indeed back in the 00s. It's fair to say Indeed wouldn't be Indeed without Tim, which is why we rev-up the "way back machine" and pull back the covers on the early days of Indeed, as well as what the future may hold. For those who aren't students of history, don't worry, we spend plenty of time talking about the current state of recruitment tech and the future.

Oh hell, you'll just have to listen if you're not following. What else? Job.com goes shopping and its CEO gets salty with the media. Glassdoor may not be as anonymous as it wants you to believe and we play a little Who'd Ya' Rather with HireArt and InternMatch. Now, put that in your Barbacoa Bowl and smoke it!
S2 Ep 84Turning a Blind Eye
EHRTech - Serge and Shelley are going! The update on what our millennial is encountering in her job search; empty promises and crickets. Getting that first job is tough, willing to work but no experience. The struggle is real. Recruitment Insights Shopify, the Canadian tech darling is reducing their workforce and you guessed it - recruiting is hit along with customer support and sales. They are putting a big blanket around their product building teams - no surprises there. The biggest bust of illegal workers in Canada, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts take the walk of shame, hiding behind their statement of ‘we did our due diligence’. It's unlikely they got 3 bids on that contract. Can anyone find a trace of the temp agency One Team? They vanished faster than water in the desert. The blame game continues, employers complaining, “no one wants to work anymore”, trace that statement back to 1894! The research confirms it, out of 1,000 hiring managers, ⅔ admit they are failing to fill their vacant positions because they are forced to only hire candidates with a degree. Some sectors like tech and healthcare are rethinking it - certifications might be as relevant as degrees for entry level jobs.

S2 Ep 82The RecFest Effect
EThe only thing better than being at RecFest, which was a mind blowing experience, would be if Serge could have been there with Shelley. Meeting all the global influencers in TA and those who supported TRF’s from day one was certainly a hilite. AND Hung Lee needs a better photographer - his picture does not do him justice, he’s much better looking in person. Insights this week Behind the bold claim of every university on how many of their graduates find work; the fact is they never say how many found work in their field of study. We throw the curtains back to reveal 34% of grads could have landed the job they had without a degree. Reunion Squad: Honeit's Nick Livingston
EMost reunions suck. You have to pretend to look younger, more successful, and skinnier than you really are. And then there are those stupid name tags with your senior picture on them. Don't even get me started. Anyway, other reunions - like Firing Squad reunions - are awesome! Assessment Witchcraft w/ Caitlin MacGregor
EFor as long as employee assessments have been around, they're still largely a mystery to most employers. Sort of like witchcraft or a pagan ritual from the Middle Ages, most companies enter the assessment game with a lot of confusion and fear. That's why we invited Plum's Caitlin MacGregor co-founder and CEO on the podcast to make sense of it all and relieve listeners from the pain assessment tests can sometimes bring. We're talkin' death of resumes, threats to employer branding, and being stuck in World War II technology. Don't worry. It'll all make sense, and you'll feel a lot better if you're in the market for assessment solutions. Plus, Caitlin is Canadian, which means her commentary goes down as smoothly as a cold Moosehead or a warm serving of maple syrup. You're welcome, eh.

Insights this Week The phone screen is an outdated concept for hiring millennials, like we had to point this out to you? Using simple tech shows you aren't out of touch. A shout out to @Aritizia for doing this well. Big companies really don't want top talent, they want obedient rule followers. Job ads that say remote work but really are not. There’s no law against false job advertising but the real consequences are being discussed all over the internet. Dumb move Roe V Wade and the long term consequences to the world of work.

Ep 448Ep 448: Proving The Business Value Of Talent Marketing
Measuring the impact of talent marking in a way that aligns with the rest of the business and demonstrates value for the c-suite has always been challenging. TA leaders often find themselves judged by measures and outcomes they don't fully control, which are impossible to translate into business value. So how do you prove the business impact of recruitment marketing and employer branding, particularly in such volatile times? My guest this week is Nick Thompson, Global Talent Marketing Leader at IBM. Nick and his team have been working on this issue for a while and have devised a way of measuring the value of talent marketing that resonates with the C-Suite and provides a laser focus for optimisation and improvement. In the interview, we discuss: The scale of recruiting at IBM The current state of the global market for tech hiring The shortcomings of existing talent marketing metrics Speaking the same language as the rest of the business Measuring where you have ownership and control What is the time to apply metric, and how was it developed? What insights does time to apply enable? Mapping onto business value The reaction The levers that reduce time to apply Removing the reasons why people don't click apply The role of employer branding Advice to TA leaders Listen to this podcast on Apple Podcasts
