JobandTalent Goes Full Viking

E

Hangovers and jet-lag be damned! The show must go on. That's why the boys connected after the conference in Ostend this week to chat a little Euro news and breakdown the week in Belgium. Adecco was in the news for bringing on a new CEO. Losing 50 percent of its stock value probably wasn't a good thing for the guy he's replacing. Jobandtalent has embraced acquisitions as a way to spend its hundreds of millions in investment. This time, a Norwegian staffing firm is on the menu. And yes, as promised, the boys wrap-up the conference with takeaways, teaching and teases for next year. Enjoy, and pass the Alka-Seltzer while you're at it.

LinkedIn Loses Again!?!

E

Recording live from Ostend, Belgium, ahead of the House of HR conference, the boys are in the kind of zone only a pint of Chimay can inspire. LinkedIn loses again and Comparably says it’s probably time to stop thinking Glassdoor is vulnerable (and chalk up another acquisition where terms aren’t disclosed). The boys then play a little buy-or-sell with BarRaiser, Valence and Pando “Don’t Call Us Logical.” Nike vs. Airbnb wraps up the show making us question which WFH policy will rule the future (hint: it rhymes with “hairbnb”). Oh yeah, and you gotta about the boys wild Amsterdam adventure with sponsor Textkernel. Cheers!

Beamery Me Up, Scotty

E

Beamery me up, Scotty, and get that Delorean to 88 MPH! This show is heavy, and not because there's something wrong with the earth's gravitational pull in the future. No, it's because we have an acquisition of some company called Flux and an update on the HiQ / LinkedIn legal drama. Plus, Predictive Hire is changing its name and the boys play a little Buy-or-Sell with Crafty, Beatrust, and Vivian (sounds like a party we attended back in '94). S2 Ep 67White Hot Walk of Shame

E

What is the limit in asking for favours? Clients who always want something for free or friends who need help moving - again. Money seems to draw the line in both, perhaps we are just too Canadian and cant say no. White Hot brand A&F takes the walk of shame having the most sickening hiring practices. Worse yet is the fact they documented everything. Nothing like leaving a trail of evidence. They’d never survive in the age of social media. .Freshii locations in Toronto outsource their cashiers to a call centre in Nicaragua. Nothing to see here, this too will flop under the microscope of social media. $3.75 USD an hour just isn't a good look for any corporation according to Shelley but Serge sets her straight by doing some research and realizing that's double the average wage in Nicaragua. There’s an app for that. Don't waste your time creating 50 personalized in-mails that only 5 people may respond to. Over 50 and choosing not to work. With better health than previous generations, 50 is the new 40? Face facts, if the labour shortage is real, it seems ridiculous to overlook older workers. Who’s with me?

Ep 431Ep 431: Talent Density

The challenges of 2022 are causing many organisations to think very differently about talent. The employers who are getting it right are looking holistically at talent acquisition, development, retention and attrition to create the opportunity to build a talent dense organisation. So what does this look like in practice, and how can your company get there? My guest this week is Taylor Roa, Director of Talent at Wistia. Wistia is a growing technology company with an incredible culture and a big focus on talent density. They also use video as their superpower to showcase their unique employer brand. In the interview, we discuss: Recruiting challenges at Wistia Meaningful work and culture versus cash and compromise Using video to represent the company culture authentically. Tired of hearing about unicorns in the recruitment space? Ep 429Ep 429: Open Hiring

Some of my favourite conversations in the last six months have been around inclusive hiring. Many people are doing brilliant work to support people from marginalised groups into the workforce, and I've learnt a lot from talking to employers like Timpson and organisations like The Bridge of Hope. In this episode, we're going to explore what happens when an employer removes all screening, all background checks and all education and experience requirements from their hiring to be more inclusive. What are the advantages, the challenges, and the results? My guest this week is Nykeba King, Global Head of Inclusion at The Body Shop. A few years ago, The Body Shop created an Open Hiring program to ensure they were being as inclusive as possible. It's a strategy that has produced some amazing results, and it is now giving them a unique competitive advantage in today's challenging talent markets. In the interview, we discuss: Recruiting challenges at The Body Shop What is Open Hiring, and how does it work? No background checks, no screening, no education requirements How Open Hiring is helping The Body Shop in the current talent markets Making recruiting more purposeful with "Targeted Recruitment."
