S3 Ep 138138. Maternal Mental Health: What I Want Every Parent To Know

As a recap to the previous three episodes aimed at building awareness of maternal mental health, Allison is sharing what she thinks every expecting and new parent should know in the hopes of helping other new and expecting parents who may struggle or are struggling postpartum. Given her own experience, the work she does with parents and the previous guests she's interviewed, Allison believed she had a robust understanding of the challenges of maternal mental health. S3 Ep 128128. Sleep To Get By Or Sleep To Thrive? Sleep For 3 to 10 Year Olds

Studies clearly show that getting the optimal amount of sleep improves a child's impulse control, emotional regulation, and learning retention. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children 3 to 5 years old get 10-13 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period and that children between 6 and 10 years old get 9 to 12 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. These are big ranges and it can be difficult to determine the sweet spot of optimal sleep for each child. Allison believes that many children can get by on the lower end of these ranges, but will really thrive on the higher end. Listen in to hear the details of her own personal experience and many of her clients' experiences that have led her to this conclusion. S3 Ep 114114. How To Use A Timer to Help With Bedtime

If you have a toddler or preschooler who has become a master at stalling before or during their bedtime routine, this episode is for you. Allison is sharing the benefits of using timers to help your child start and get through their bedtime routine. And even if you've tried timers in the past and didn't think they helped, we encourage you to listen. There are a couple mistakes that parents often make when using timers. With easy tweaks, you may find the timer is your friend after all. Some children really struggle when moving from one activity to another - transitions are hard! Timers can be a helpful tool during these transitions, even if your child has said they don't like the timer or has ignored the timer in the past. Three transitions where Allison finds timers to be particularly helpful are to help end dinner, to help with moving into the beginning of the bedtime routine, and to indicate when it's time to get out of a fun bath. Listen in as she walks you through her strategy with timers, the exact language to use with the timer during these three specific transitions, and what type of timers she feels work well with children. S2 Ep 102102. Sleep SOS - Sudden Dropped Nap

What do you do when your child suddenly decides to stop napping? We've got the answer for you today in this Sleep SOS episode. Earlier this week, Allison asked her Instagram community to submit questions about their child's sleep. Jessica, a mom of a 4.5 year old boy, is questioning how to address the fact that her son suddenly dropped his nap. You may know from following Allison that the ideal transition away from napping is a gradual one. Jessica's question highlights one issue with that ideal situation - the fact that the closer your child gets to 5 years old, the higher the chance that they may suddenly drop their nap and not go through the preferred gradual drop. In this episode, Allison provides her personalized suggestions for Jessica, and addresses how you too can handle this if you're faced with a similar situation. Allison refers to Episode 64. S2 Ep 9292. Understanding The Growth Chart with Dr. Stephanie Grice - Summer Pediatrician Series #2

This episode is the second in our three-part Summer Pediatrician Series with Dr. Stephanie Grice. In this episode, Allison and Dr. Grice are discussing the growth charts pediatricians use to track a child's growth. The way a child "scores" on the growth chart can often cause anxiety for parents. Dr. Grice addresses this concern and explains why your child's placement on the growth chart isn't nearly as important as their overall growth trajectory. She also shares how the chart can help providers assess if a child is maintaining a healthy weight for their height and when it's appropriate to stop night feedings with infants. S2 Ep 9191. A Simple Bedtime Routine That Takes 30 Minutes Or Less

Consistent bedtime routines are a key component to healthy sleep habits. Allison believes that bedtime routines should be short and sweet, completed in 30 minutes or less. In this episode, she's detailing the steps of her ideal bedtime routine. This is a routine you can implement with your infant, and then follow as your child grows into a toddler, preschooler and then early elementary age child. There are only minor shifts to make as your child grows, and Allison outlines these in this episode as well. Allison mentions these previous episodes: 1. My Case for an Early Bedtime 65.
