HOPE Talks

Lenora Fowler joins us on today's broadcast of Hope Talks to share part 1 of her testimony we will have part 2 of her testimony on next Sunday's broadcast. Lenora shares about how despite losing her mom to cancer when she was 10, losing two babies and also losing her husband Al to suicide God has brought hope and healing in her life in seemingly hopeless circumstances. One of the places where Lenora found hope and healing was continuing to serve in children's ministry with the four and five year old's at church.

James 3: 10 says "Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. Surely my brothers and sisters, this should not be." Also we talk about the importance of our word's especially to non-believers. Nathan Carr is originally from Tennessee where he was born and raised. Nathan is the leader of the men's addiction group for Celebrate Recovery here at Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg. Nathan joins us today on Hope Talks share about a new ministry that he is helping with called Open Table where they are ministering to men that have been Incarcerated.

On today's broadcast of Hope Talks Pastor Margaret Michael and Grayson Willis talk about the importance as Christians of being salt and light to those around us. Also we talk about the harvest and what Jesus says about it.

Growing up in a family of 9 kids, Vladimir Prokhnevskiy didn’t get many gifts and food was a luxury. One harsh winter in Kiev, Ukraine, Prokhnevskiy and his siblings rode a bus and then a tram to get to the church where shoeboxes were handed out. The brightly colored gifts stood out immediately! He was so excited about his gift that time seemed to stand still for a brief moment. Prokhnevskiy’s favorite items were candy and toys, but he remembers “brushing” his teeth with floss to enjoy the minty flavored string and now having a toothbrush of his own! The shoebox represented to Prokhnevskiy unconditional love that heals everything, allowing him and his siblings to forget their struggles for a moment and just feel loved.

Charlie was born and raised in Elkton where he still lives today. He started attending Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg about ten years ago with his wife Odessa. They now part of our East Rock campus for Church of the Nazarene in Elkton. Charlie joins us on Hope Talks today to share his testimony.

Wanda Herald was born and raised in Woodstock, Virginia and moved to Harrisonburg when she was 18. Wanda joins us on Hope Talks today to share about how God has delivered her from addiction to drugs and how he is now using her to serve him though Hope Distributed as well as helping cook meals for the homeless for Open Doors.

Today Pastor Billy Logan; the Pastor of Discipleship at Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg; joins Hope Talks to talk about the importance of discipleship, being apart of a Christian community and doing life together in a life group/small group setting, as well as breaking bread together and praying for each other.

Bo Hammond was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley. He when to Virginia Tech and now lives in Augusta County. They have two daughters Jillian and Addison. Bo works in the forest products industry and he joins us on Hope Talks today to share his Testimony.

Pastor Roger and Vickie Dove join Hope Talks today to reflect back over there years of ministry both as lay servants as well as full time employees for Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg. Pastor Chris grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia and has served alongside his family in ministry since 2011. He graduated from Northwest Nazarene University in 2021 with Bachelor of Art degrees in Multicultural Leadership and Christian Ministry. He joined the staff of COTN shortly after graduation. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary. Pastor Chris joins Hope Talks today to share his testimony with us.

Rebeca joins us on Hope Talks today to share her testimony. Rebeca was born and raised in the Shenandoah valley. She recently started her freshman year of college at JMU and is studying elementary education.

Today we are joined on Hope Talks by Rachel Hinz. Rachel grow in a farm family in eastern Pennsylvania. She came to the valley to study at Eastern Mennonite College at the time. Rachel met her husband; who is originally from Germany; in the valley on a group hike and have lived in the valley ever since. Rachel has three grown children and joins us today to share her testimony with us.

Best Week Ever took place June 27-July 3rd. We did service projects in Harrisonburg, Elkton and Rockingham County. Some of the nonprofits that that we served were Open Doors, Habitat for Humanity, Stone Haven, Hope Distributed, Kids Harbor, EAUS, The Boys and Girls Club in Elkton, Skyline Literacy, First Responders and Law Enforcement as well as some schools in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

Joel Ballew is the Executive Director at Open Doors. Open Doors is a non-profit that ministers to the homeless in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
