Kevin Hovde is entering his third season as a Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach at the University of Florida in 2024-25. Hovde, who has worked alongside Gators’ Head Coach Todd Golden for nine seasons, helped Florida get back to the NCAA Tournament in 2024. The Gators posted 24 wins in 2023-24, their most since 2016-17, and advanced to the SEC Tournament championship game for the first time since 2014.Hovde came to Florida after most recently helping Richmond to the second round of the NCAA Tournament following an Atlantic 10 Tournament championship. Kevin joined the Richmond staff as an assistant coach in May 2021, returning to his alma mater after five seasons at the University of San Francisco, where he served as the team’s associate coach on Golden’s staff from 2019 to 2021. Prior to San Francisco, Hovde was on the staff at Columbia for five seasons, two alongside Golden. He joined the program as the director of basketball operations in 2011 and was promoted to assistant coach the following season. In 2015-16, his final season at Columbia, the Lions finished 25-10, setting a school record for wins, and won the postseason CollegeInsider.com Tournament.Hovde first joined the Spiders in 2006 out of Unionville High in Kennett Square, Pa. as part of Chris Mooney’s first recruiting class at Richmond. He appeared in 99 games over four seasons, scoring 195 total points. The Mustangs won the Greater Cleveland Conference in her second season posting an overall record of 21-3. Gray Thomas is the Research Lead for Transforming Basketball. Gray is also a PhD student at the Center for the Ecological Study of Perception Action in the Ecological Psychology program at the University of Connecticut. Gray’s interests and expertise include applying the principles of ecological psychology to analyze basketball and drive skill acquisition. Mason Padgett is currently entering his first season as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach at Calhoun Academy in St. Matthews, South Carolina. Ben Witherspoon is entering his first season as a Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach at Mercer University. Previously, he was an assistant coach under Johnny Dawkins at the University of Central Florida for two seasons beginning in 2022. Kamal Assaf was a 4 year varsity high school basketball player at The Bishop's School in La Jolla, California who went on to play in two college basketball programs at UC San Diego and Whittier College. For the past 32 years, Coach Assaf has worked with basketball players at all levels including middle school, freshman, junior varsity and as a Varsity assistant coach. Mike Martin recently completed his 12th season as the Men's Basketball Head Coach at Brown University. He is the 31st head men’s basketball coach in the program’s 117-year history. Martin launched his Brown career in 2012-2013 as the fourth youngest head men’s basketball coach in Division I. Martin is the winningest head coach in Brown men's basketball history with 148 victories. Martin began his coaching career at Brown on head coach Glen Miller’s staff as an assistant coach in 2005-2006. He was an assistant at Penn from 2006 – 2012 under both Miller and later Jerome Allen before returning to take over the program at Brown in 2012.As a player, Martin was a four-year starter at Brown and was part of the winningest class in the Bears' basketball history, posting a 63-45 four-year record from 2000-2004. He also helped the Class of 2004 to a school-record 39-17 Ivy League mark during that period -- the best by an Ivy League team other than Penn and Princeton since 1970. He also helped the Bears to a school-record four straight winning seasons. When he graduated, Martin ranked third all-time at Brown in career treys (143), ninth in career steals (113), and tenth in career assists (232). Krista Phillips is the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio. On this episode she is joined by two of her graduating seniors Dasha Shishkina and Khady Leye. Krista was the starting center for Team Canada at the London 2012 Olympics, and spent six years playing with the Canadian National Team. Prior to her time with Team Canada, Krista spent four years at the University of Michigan as a Wolverine. As a senior, Krista received an All-Big Ten conference honorable mention, as well as awards for Athletic Achievement and Rebounding. She started all 35 games in her senior year and became Michigan’s 20th 1,000 point scorer. After college, Krista continued her basketball career professionally playing in Italy, Spain, Australia, and Prague. Upon retirement, Krista spent many successful seasons coaching high school basketball. Joe Burke has been the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Skidmore College since 2010 amassing an overall record of 200-147.Under Burke, Skidmore has won five Liberty League conference championships (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2019) four Liberty League regular season titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019) and made six NCAA tournament appearances (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019). Mark Downey recently completed the fourth season of his second stint as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Arkansas Tech University and his ninth season overall at Tech in 2023-24 which saw the Wonder Boys go 25-7 in 23-24 and lose to eventual national champion Minnesota State in the DII NCAA Tournament. Downey’s first stint at Arkansas S was from 2006-2010.In 2010 Downey returned home to his alma mater to become the head coach at the University of Charleston. He remained at Charleston for three seasons before moving on to become the head coach at the University of West Alabama for the 2013-14 season. Jarren Dyson is a men’s basketball assistant coach at Army West Point. Prior to Army he helped Christopher Newport University win the D3 National Championship in 2023 as an assistant to Head Coach John Krikorian. Dyson previously spent 5 seasons at Lafayette College as an assistant where he served as the program's recruiting coordinator and was involved in player development.Before joining the staff at Lafayette, Dyson had his first stint at Christopher Newport University where helped lead the team to back-to-back conference championships and a run to the program's first-ever Final Four appearance in 2016. The Captains recorded a 99-19 record and three conference championships during his first tenure. Prior to his time with the Captains, Dyson was an assistant at Tabb High School for two years, leading the Tigers to the state quarterfinals both years. As a student-athlete at Emory & Henry, Dyson started all four years, serving as a team captain for his final two seasons. He remains fourth all-time in assists at his alma mater and was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player following the 2009-10 season. Kent Washington made history by becoming the first American to play professional basketball behind the Iron Curtain. In his memoir, Kentomania, he recounts his journey from grade school, when he was known as Peanut, to become the first Black American to play professionally in the top league in Poland.Kent began to tap into his talent as a basketball player in junior and senior high school in New Rochelle, New York. His obsessive work ethic started to pay dividends as he elevated his game and became a college player at Southampton College in Long Island. During a basketball tour of communist Poland with his team in May 1976, Kent took the country by storm and became an overnight sensation.After finishing his education, he returned to Poland under contract to play professionally. Brooks Miller is the Men’s Basketball Head Coach at Trine University where he led the Thunder to the 2024 Division 3 National Championship finishing with a record of 29-4. Miller has compiled an overall record of 226-116 at Trine in his 13 seasons as head coach.Prior to arriving at Trine, Miller worked as an assistant men's basketball coach for three Hall of Fame coaches that amassed seven National Championships throughout their careers. Miller began his collegiate coaching career working for Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame Coach Ed Douma (one National Championship) whom he previously played for at Hillsdale College. In 2007, his career took him to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he served as a graduate assistant coach to Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight (three National Championships). In 2009, he became the Head Assistant Men’s Basketball coach and National Recruiting Coordinator at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas for Junior College Hall of Fame Coach Steve Green (three National Championships). Miller's started his collegiate playing career at the University of Toledo finished at Hillsdale College. At Hillsdale in 2003, Miller was selected team captain, Academic All-Conference, and team "Defensive Player of the Year." Brittney McNamara is the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Midview High School in the state of Ohio. She took over the Midview program in 2021 and led the Middies to the state Final Four in 2023.She previously served as the Head Coach at Berea-Midpark High School for two seasons. Prior to her first head coaching job with the Titans, McNamara was a varsity assistant coach for four seasons at Trinity High School. She began her coaching career as the junior varsity coach with Mayfield High School in 2014.McNamara is also active on the AAU circuit where Brittney’s father, Kevin, runs the successful AAU program MAC Basketball in northeast Ohio.McNamara was a two-time All-Ohio standout and the 2013 Lorain County Player of the Year while a student at Elyria Catholic. The Panthers basketball team made it to the OHSAA Final Four during her sophomore year.
