Ep 1036Brad Fischer - University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Women's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 1036

Brad Fischer is in his 13th season as the Women’s Basketball Head Coach of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Fischer has won more than 265 games in his 12 plus seasons and guided the Titans to the NCAA Division III Championship nine of the past ten tournaments. Under Fischer’s guidance UW-Oshkosh reached the Elite Eight in 2022 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2024 in addition to numerous second and third round appearances.Fischer earned 2014 and 2021 Central Region Coach of the Year honors from D3hoops.com as well as being named WIAC Coach of the Year four times. Fischer has helped UW-Oshkosh win 4 WIAC regular season titles in addition to 6 league tournament championships.Fischer has led UW-Oshkosh to at least 20 victories during each of his 11 full seasons. His 260 wins entering this season ranks sixth on the WIAC’s all-time coaching list while his .785 winning percentage is fourth best among conference coaches with at least 70 wins.Previously, Fischer spent five seasons (2006-11) as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division II UW-Parkside. He also was an assistant for the UW-La Crosse women’s basketball team from 2003-06 after beginning his coaching career at Western Wisconsin Technical College from 2000-01 and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School from 2001-03.Mike & Brad discuss the steps that were necessary to turn around a struggling Oshkosh women’s program into a competitive force in Division III basketball. With over 265 wins in his tenure, Fischer emphasizes the importance of building a strong culture and instilling confidence in his players. Ben Betts is the Head Coach of the Boys’ National High School Basketball team at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina. Betts has accumulated 34 years of experience as a college coach. After beginning his coaching career at South Carolina State, Betts has been an assistant at College of Charleston, VCU, Oklahoma, Tennessee State, IPFW, Georgia Southern, Western Carolina, and Winthrop. Additionally, he was the head coach of South Carolina State for a three-year stretch from 2003 to 2006 where he directed the Bulldogs to the MEAC regular-season crown in 2004 . While at Oklahoma from 2006-2011 he mentored 2009 NBA No. 1 overall pick Blake Griffin and helped direct the Sooners to the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2009.Betts was a four-year basketball letterwinner at Roanoke College where he helped propel the team to the NCAA Tournament.On this episode Ben & Mike discuss the unique environment and opportunities available at Combine Academy for aspiring basketball players. Heidi Messer is in her third season as the Women’s Basketball Head Coach at NAIA Oklahoma Wesleyan University.From 2017 until joining the Oklahoma Wesleyan staff, Messer was an assistant coach and the women’s basketball strength and conditioning coach at Northeastern State in Oklahoma. She spent two seasons at the University of Montevallo from 2015 – 2017 and was an assistant coach and the Senior Woman Administrator at Manchester University from 2012 -2014. Heidi also served as a graduate assistant coach at Georgetown College (Ky.) for two seasons.Messer played four years of college basketball. She attended Sinclair Community College for two years before attending Grace College, where she played two years and served as team captain during her senior season. Chris McMillian is the Men’s Basketball Associate Head Coach at Central Michigan University. He joined Head Coach Tony Barbee’s staff as an assistant coach in May of 2021 and was promoted to associate head coach in August 2024.Prior to Central Michigan, McMillian spent two seasons at Idaho State (2019-21), after serving as the Director of Player Performance at Illinois-Chicago for four years, overseeing the design and implementation of the Flames' strength and conditioning program.McMillian's resume also includes stops as an assistant coach at the College of Southern Idaho (2014-15) and at Hawaii (2010-14), where he served first as the strength coach and video coordinator before being promoted to the director of basketball operations. Ep 995Jake Diebler - The Ohio State University Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 995

Jake Diebler is the Head Men’s Basketball at the Ohio State University. He has been with the Buckeyes for a total of eight seasons. He was a video coordinator with the program from 2014-16 and then returned as an assistant coach prior to the 2019-20 season. He was promoted to associate head coach before the 2021-22 season and then was named interim head coach on Feb. 14, 2024. The first Ohioan to be Ohio State’s head coach in 35 years, Diebler led the Buckeyes to a 6-2 record in his time as the interim head coach. Following the Big Ten Tournament, Diebler was named the full time head coach and led the Buckeyes to the quarterfinals of the NIT. Overall, Diebler amassed an 8-3 record as head coach at the end of the 2023-24 season. Jake began his coaching career at Valparaiso with Bryce Drew from 2009-2013. He also worked for Drew at Vanderbilt from 2016-2019. As a player Jake holds the all-time Ohio high school career records in both assists (835) and steals (578). Ep 993Todd Simon - Bowling Green State University Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 993

Todd Simon is entering his second season as the head coach of the Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball program in 2024-25. In his first season with the Falcons, Coach Simon orchestrated one of the quickest turnarounds in program history. In his first season, the Falcons tallied 20 wins for just the 10th time in the program's MAC era, becoming one of 10 teams in the nation to go from 20 losses in 2022-23 to 20 wins in 2023-24. Simon joined the Falcons after spending seven seasons at Southern Utah as the head coach of the Thunderbirds. Under Simon’s leadership, Southern Utah went 118-96 with three straight 20 wins seasons from 2020-2023.Prior to arriving at Southern Utah, Simon was named interim head coach of the UNLV men's basketball program in January 2016 and was in his third year as associate head coach with UNLV.Before his time as a Runnin' Rebel, Simon served Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada for seven years in both head and assistant coaching roles. Ep 992Melissa Jackson - Youngstown State University Women's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 992

Melissa Jackson is entering her first season as Youngstown State's Head Women's Basketball Coach in 2024-2025. She is the ninth head coach in the history of the Youngstown State University women’s basketball program.Jackson previously spent 15 seasons at Akron and the most recent campaign at Cleveland State. Her final five seasons in Akron were as the Zips’ head coach, and she is the only coach in the program’s history to have a winning record. Jackson held three different positions over her 15 seasons at Akron from 2008-23 and was part of the Zips’ best period in program history. She was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on Jodi Kest’s staff from 2008-12, and she was elevated to the role of associate head coach alongside Kest from 2012-18. Jackson’s role in Akron’s success under Kest helped her earn a promotion to Akron’s head coach before the 2018-19 season, and she helped the Zips assemble a 72-69 record and 40 MAC victories in her five seasons. Jackson spent the first four years of her coaching career at Delaware from 2004-08 after graduating from the University of Richmond where she was a 4 year basketball student-athlete. Stephen Halstead is entering his fifth season as a men’s basketball assistant coach at NAIA Grace College in Indiana. Halstead served as a graduate assistant for his first two seasons, leading Grace's junior varsity squad while assisting with the varsity.In 2023-24 Grace was ranked as the No. 1 team in the country for much of the season. The Lancers won the regular season and postseason championships in the Crossroads League and were the overall No. 1 seed in the NAIA tournament. Grace then enjoyed its deepest run in the NAIA Div. I tournament era, reaching the Final Four. Halstead was a four-year member of Grace's basketball squad. He played from 2014-18 and finished his career with 151 made 3-pointers. Over the course of his 115-game career, he shot 42 percent on 3-pointers and 83 percent on free throws.
