Ep 2859Can America Escape the European Union's ESG Scheme?

The other day, Donald Kendal, director of the Socialism Research Center at The Heartland Institute, joined The Shaun Thompson Show to talk about the European Union's new ESG scheme. The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive would mandate a whole host of ESG-like guidelines on businesses and industries in the EU. More importantly, because of the way the legislation was crafted, businesses, both large and small, here in the United States would be subject to the CSDDD mandates, too. Have a listen. Ep 2858Attacks on Actual Temperature Data – The Climate Realism Show #113 (Guest: Tony Heller)

The Heartland Institute has issued a report exposing the US government’s official land-based temperature stations as hopelessly corrupt and compromised. The study, conducted by Heartland Senior Fellow Anthony Watts – an update on a previous examination of temperature stations in 2009 – was the subject of a hit-piece by Scott Waldman of E&E News and POLITICO titled “Climate denial group wants to subvert NOAA data with its own: The Heartland Institute seeks to build da nationwide network of temperature-monitoring stations.”Well, yes we do. And we’re doing it because too many of NOAA’s historic stations are either captured by sprawl and the urban heat-island effect, in such terrible shape that they should not be relied upon for accurate data, or not even operable at all or broken – and in those cases, NOAA just makes a guess as to the temperature. That is problematic, to say the least, since temperature readings from these crappy stations is used to panic the American people, continually, by telling them that last week or this year was “the hottest ever” and that warming is happening dangerously fast. The mystery is why the corrupt media is attacking the setting up of up state-of-the-art temperature stations with data that can be checked in real time. We will tackle this subject, as well as go over the Crazy Climate News of the Week. Tune in LIVE for the stream at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT) to watch the show and leave your own questions in the chat with host Jim Lakely, panelists H. Sterling Burnett and Linnea Lueken, and our special guest Tony Heller. In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2856Ill Literacy, Episode 145: The Myth of Left and Right (Guest: Hyrum Lewis)

In Episode 145 of Ill Literacy, Tim Benson talks with Hyrum Lewis, co-author ofThe Myth of Left and Right: How the Political Spectrum Misleads and Harms America. Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Hyrum Lewis, associate professor of history at Brigham Young University-Idaho, to discuss his new book (co-authored with his brother, Verlan), The Myth of Left and Right: How the Political Spectrum Misleads and Harms America. They chat about how, the book declares, there is no enduring philosophy, disposition, or essence uniting the various positions associated with the “liberal” and “conservative” ideologies of today—there is nothing other than tribal loyalty holding together the many disparate positions that fly under the banners of "liberal" and "conservative." They also discuss how the political spectrum came to the United States from Europe in the 1920s, and how the left and right have evolved in so many unpredictable and contradictory ways.Get the book here: https://global.oup.com/academic/product/the-myth-of-left-and-right-9780197680629?lang=en&cc=usShow Notes: Acton Institute: Jonathan Leaf – “Getting Beyond Right-Wing and Left-Wing”https://rlo.acton.org/archives/124983-getting-beyond-right-wing-and-left-wing.htmlDeseret Magazine: Hyrum Lewis – “The myth of left and right”https://www.deseret.com/2024/1/15/24002083/the-myth-of-left-and-right-politics/The Public Discourse: Andrew Busch – “The Tribal, and Philosophical, Basis of the Left and Right in American Politics”https://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/2023/05/88878/Reason: Jesse Walker – “The Left-Right Spectrum Is Mostly Meaningless”https://reason.com/2023/05/21/the-left-right-spectrum-is-mostly-meaningless/The University Bookman: Lee Trepanier – “Essentially Lying About the Left and Right”https://kirkcenter.org/reviews/essentially-lying-about-the-left-and-right/Washington Examiner: Oliver Traldi – “Busting the myth of Left and Right”https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/education/2573215/busting-the-myth-of-left-and-right/ In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2844Defending Populism To Defeat The Elite? - In The Tank #449

The Heartland Institute’s Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, Justin Haskins, and Chris Talgo present episode 449 of the In The Tank Podcast. Is Populism a threat to Democracy? U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi believes so. Pelosi recently took part in an Oxford Union debate on this very subject where she made the case that populism has become synonymous with ethnonationalism and right-wing extremism. Arguing against this position was Winston Marshall, a former member of the musical group, Mumford & Sons. What role does Populism play in American politics? Ep 2842Ill Literacy, Episode 141: Christendom (Guest: Peter Heather)

In Episode 141 of Ill Literacy, Tim Benson talks with Peter Heather, author ofChristendom: The Triumph of a Religion, AD 300-1300. Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Peter Heather, chair of medieval history at King's College, London, to discuss his new book, Christendom: The Triumph of a Religion, AD 300-1300. They chat about how a small sect of isolated and intensely committed congregations became a mass movement centrally directed from Rome, the Church’s chameleonlike capacity for self-reinvention, and how nothing was inevitable about Christianity’s rise and dominance in Europe. Ep 2827Save the Whales, Kill the Turbines – The Climate Realism Show #104

On episode 104 of The Climate Realism Show, we explain that to save the whales we need to kill these growing large-scale offshore wind projects. These so-called “wind farms” are much larger and do much more environmental damage than most people realize. Covering an area the size of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined, one project off the Mid-Atlantic poses an existential risk to the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. That is just one of many ocean mammals harassed and killed by these projects that will, at best, provide unreliable and expensive energy. Remember when “save the whales” was the cry of the environmentalists? Now they are fine with a spike in dead whales washing up on our Atlantic beaches as long as the “green energy” agenda continues apace. The Heartland Institute is part of a lawsuit to stop to a major wind project in the Atlantic and save the right whale. We will talk about that effort with Craig Rucker and Terry Johnson of CFACT, who are also part of the suit. Join them and host Anthony Watts, H. Sterling Burnett, and Linnea Lueken to talk about that, plus the Crazy Climate News of the Week. In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2824Renewable Power Costs More and Delivers Less

In this enlightening episode, Isaac Orr from the Center of the American Experiment delves into the complexities of renewable energy and its impact on power grids across the United States. Orr argues for a reevaluation of what we consider 'renewable' energy, arguing the term 'renewable' might be misleading, suggesting a shift towards labeling these energy sources as 'unreliable.' He sheds light on the hidden costs and inefficiencies of renewable energy sources, pointing out that, despite significant subsidies, they prove to be more costly and less efficient than traditional energy sources.Orr illustrates how states heavily invested in renewable energy—from California to Texas, traversing through Ohio to the Northeast—are experiencing increased instances of power emergencies, including blackouts and brownouts. This episode not only challenges the prevailing narrative around renewable energy but also explores the broader implications of these energy policies on our daily lives and the environment. Join us as we navigate through the controversial and often misunderstood realm of renewable power, its economic ramifications, and why speaking out on these issues might attract unwarranted attention, as experienced by the Center of the American Experiment. The other day, The Heartland Institute's Chris Talgo, Editorial Director and research fellow at our Socialism Research Center, was a guest on "Unleashed with Marc Morano" on TNT Radio. Chris was on to talk about the how regular election laws, designed to make it secure, were thrown out in the 2020 election. He talked about the poll Heartland and Rasmussen Reports released late last year in which one in five of Americans who mailed in their ballots admitted to at least one form of illegal voting. We have to make sure election integrity is paramount in the 2024 election, and not let cheating and illegal balloting happen to the level it happened in 2020.See the poll, as well as analysis and media coverage of that poll: https://heartland.org/who-really-won-the-2020-election/ In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Climate Change Roundtable is now The Climate Realism Show. The same great climate news and analysis from The Heartland Institute’s world-class climate and energy experts, but a snazzy new name that gets right to the heart of what it is about. On episode 103 of The Climate Realism Show, we welcome Tom Nelson, producer of the new film “Climate: The Movie.” The film exposes the climate alarm as an invented scare without any basis in science. It emphatically counters the claim that current temperatures and levels of atmospheric CO2 are unusually and worryingly high. In fact, we are currently in an ice age and there is no evidence that changing levels of CO2 (it has changed many times) has ever ‘driven’ climate change in the past. The Heartland Institute’s Anthony Watts is host, H. The Heartland Institute’s Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo present episode 441 of the In The Tank Podcast. For many years now, we have heard about big tech censorship and the role government may have played. Thanks to investigations like "The Twitter Files," we have gotten some insight into the coercive pressure put upon social media platforms to remove certain content. Well now, the Supreme Court is hearing a case on this very matter. At what point is the government overstepping the protections of the First Amendment in an effort to curb "misinformation?" Businessman and author Jon Pepper has written a series of books that explores the trials and tribulations of the energy industry in a highly politicized age, the newest of which, "Missy's Twitch," explores a young woman's passage from indoctrination and climate alarm induced spasms, to awareness of the lack of compelling evidence for climate alarm, and the toxic politics surrounding the issue. The book is at turns hilarious and disturbing in the picture it paints of the current state of energy and climate politics, along the way presenting some caricatures of politicians and business interests who even the casual reader should be able to identify from real life, mocking them appropriately.Get the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Missys-Twitch-Fossil-Feuds-Pepper-ebook/dp/B0CKM4VJFB In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2811Electric Vehicles Worse For The Environment - In The Tank #439

The Heartland Institute’s Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo present episode 439 of the In The Tank Podcast. The electric vehicle industry can not catch a break.
