Ep 2968The Trump Effect on the Global Climate Agenda - The Climate Realism Show #144
President Trump has struck the Biden administration’s climate and energy policy like a hurricane – from increasing energy exploration and extraction, to letting 1,000 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency know they could be fired at any time, to taking all mentions of climate change from the website of the Department of Agriculture, and more. But what will be the Trump Effect on the global climate agenda? Will the dedication to reorder the economies and societies of the world to “save the planet” being to crumble? And if so, which country will give up first?President Trump has struck the Biden administration’s climate and energy policy like a hurricane—ranging from increasing energy exploration and extraction to informing 1,000 Environmental Protection Agency employees that they could be fired at any time, to removing all mentions of climate change from the Department of Agriculture’s website, and more. Ep 2967Is DOGE Breaking Washington, or Fixing it? - In The Tank #482
The Trump administration's efforts to dismantle the status quo continue, causing the right people to worry about their next paychecks. Nations around the world are coming to the negotiation table on subjects no one thought they would, while some very unstable individuals are attempting to incite violence in retaliation against Trump's efforts. The Heartland Institute’s Linnea Lueken, Jim Lakely, and H. The Heartland Institute’s Anthony Watts and Jim Lakely blow holes in that absurd political stunt and also discuss other recent to abuse the courts to push climate alarmism. Also, Lee Zeldin has just started his first week as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, and already the environmental left is terrified that the days of considering human emissions of carbon dioxide are coming to an end. Ep 2963Trump’s YUUUGE First 10 Days - In The Tank #481
It’s an understatement to say that Donald Trump hit the ground running to start his interrupted second term. The speed and precision with which he has canceled nearly every achievement of the Biden nothing this country has ever seen before. It is simply breathtaking, and happening at such a frenetic pace it is difficult to keep up.The Heartland Institute’s Linnea Lueken, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo will do their best, though. Trump has issued hundreds of executive orders on all sorts of policy areas. On immigration, he closed the border, sent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) across America to round up and deport criminal illegal aliens, and even suggested he’ll use Gitmo to house them until flights back to their country of origin can be arranged. And he also declared that the federal government will no longer put up with “sanctuary” cities and states harboring illegals.Trump froze all federal grants to assess whether they are worth continuing or canceling because they are wasteful or harmful to America. He demanded the federal workforce actually show up in the office again, or be fired or resign with severance. He’s frozen all foreign aid to determine its wisdom. Trump has allowed America’s energy sector to go full ahead again, and even fired the alarmist scientific advisory board at the EPA. What have we left out? Who can keep up? We will talk about what is nothing less than the most-transformative first 10 days a president has had in American history. Ep 2962Serpent in Eden: Foreign Meddling and Partisan Politics in James Madison's America (Guest: Tyson Reeder)
Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Tyson Reeder, assistant professor of history at Brigham Young University, to discuss his new book, Serpent in Eden: Foreign Meddling and Partisan Politics in James Madison's America. They chat about the espionage, shadow diplomacy, foreign scheming, and domestic backstabbing in the formative years of the American republic, and how an infant nation adjusting to rancorous partisan politics, aggravated by the untested and imperfect new tools of governance and the growing power of media, was exploited by foreign powers to advance their own agendas. Ep 2961A New Golden Age For America - In The Tank #480
The Heartland Institute’s Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo present episode 480 of the In The Tank Podcast. At the beginning of his inaugural address, President Donald Trump declared "The golden age of America begins right now." And within hours of this statement, Donald Trump began signing a series of executive orders, taking the first steps toward fulfilling this promise. On this week's episode, the ITT crew is taking a look at these executive orders and the promises made by Trump to help determine if we are back on track to once again achieve greatness in the United States of America.SHOW NOTES:TRUMP'S INAUGURATION White House - The Inaugural Addresshttps://www.whitehouse.gov/remarks/2025/01/the-inaugural-address/DAY 1 EXECUTIVE ORDERSNYT - Trump's Executive Orders: Reversing Biden's Policies and Attacking the 'Deep State'https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/20/us/politics/trump-executive-orders-list.htmlNYT - Trump Signs Orders to Promote Fossil Fuels and End Climate Policieshttps://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/20/climate/trump-emergency-oil-gas.htmlA TIME OF UNITY OR DIVISION?NBC News - Trump says his inaugural will be about unity. Ep 2960Making Climate Policy Sane Again - The Climate Realism Show #142
President Trump wasted no time after his inauguration on Monday reversing all of his predecessor’s executive orders that made climate alarmism and “green” energy the focus of American government. He didn’t just reverse bad policies, and pull us out of the Paris Climate Agreement, he went farther than he did in his first term to ramp up American energy production and rein in an Environmental Protection Agency that regulated far beyond its mandate. Among at least 47 climate- and energy-related EOs signed in the first 24 hours of his swearing-in was one tackling what has long served as the keystone of limitless environmental regulation: the “endangerment finding” for carbon dioxide emissions. May we finally see the end of the EPA’s abuse of its regulatory power? The Heartland Institute’s Anthony Watts, Sterling Burnett, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely are joined by special guest Myron Ebell, who was on President Trump’s EPA Transition Team for his first term to break down what these reversals of radical climate and energy policy will mean for America and the world. We will also cover some of the Crazy Climate News of the Week.DONATE: https://donate.heartland.org/campaign/599325/donate In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Richard Carwardine, Emeritus Rhodes Professor of American History and Distinguished Fellow of the Rothermere American Institute at Oxford University, to discuss his new book, Righteous Strife: How Warring Religious Nationalists Forged Lincoln's Union. They chat about how the tensions surrounding the moral quandary of slavery cracked the United States in half, and even formed rifts within the North itself, how Lincoln proclaimed more days of national fasting and thanksgiving than any other president before or since, and how these pauses for spiritual reflection provided the inspirational rhetoric and ideological fuel that sustained the war.Get the book here: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/24975/righteous-strife-by-richard-carwardine/ In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2957Trump’s Climate Cabinet - The Climate Realism Show #141
Senate committee rooms on Capitol Hill were buzzing with activity this week as many of President Trump’s picks for cabinet posts were underway. Three of the key hearings on climate and energy policy were Lee Zeldin for EPA, Doug Burgum for Interior, and Chris Wright for Energy. We hope you caught Heartland’s two three-hour long “watch parties” with gavel-to-gavel coverage this week, but there’s still more to examine. What did the hearing performances of Trump’s picks say about how they will serve in their roles? Which federal agency of the three needs the most work to change its purpose? And can these appointments succeed in carrying out Trump’s agenda in the face of a deeply entrenched federal bureaucracy that is opposed to almost all of Trump’s major climate and energy goals? The Heartland Institute’s Anthony Watts, H. Sterling Burnett, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely will dive deeper into that topic. Plus, we’ll review some of the Crazy Climate News of the Week, including a deep freeze that’s on the way for most of the continental United States. Ep 2956LA Fires NOT Caused by Climate Change
Historic wildfires have destroyed thousands of homes and businesses in Los Angeles County. Many homes of the rich and famous in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Pasadena have been reduced to rubble and ash. Entire neighborhoods were completely destroyed, and the fires have been blamed for at least five deaths. The speed at which the fires spread caught firefighters and residents off guard. Fed by hurricane-strength Santa Ana winds, embers were flying through the air seemingly everywhere and with no let-up. Climate alarmists have pinned the blame on human-caused climate change, but that is not truth. On Episode #140 of The Climate Realism Show, The Heartland Institute’s H. Sterling Burnett, Anthony Watts, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely welcome U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) and CFACT’s Chris Martz to cover the LA fires and some of the “Crazy Climate News of the Week.” There’s been some fascinating news since our two-week hiatus, some of it good. Blackrock and JP Morgan are the latest financial giants to drop out of the Net-Zero Banking Alliance, Michael Mann experienced his first-ever setback in his lawfare against climate realists, and Biden tries to tie Trump’s hands on drilling while also trying to ban some tankless water heaters on his way out of the White House. Ep 2952Human CO2 Emissions Are a GOOD THING - The Climate Realism Show #139
It’s a fact that humans are increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. But does it follow, as we’re constantly told, that this increasing of CO2 is poisoning the planet? What if the opposite is actually the case? This week’s guest, CO2 Coalition Executive Director Gregory Wrightstone, is going to explain why it’s not true that more CO2=Bad.On Episode #139 of The Climate Realism Show, The Heartland Institute’s H. Sterling Burnett, Jim Lakely, and Wrightstone will also cover some of the “Crazy Climate News of the Week.” An op-ed in The New York Times says climate change should make you rethink home ownership. Remember when an iceberg off Antarctica in 2017 was supposed to freak you out? Well, never mind. And the World Economic Forum says you should wash your clothes less to save the planet. They suggest washing jeans once a month and pajamas just once a week. Is there any aspect of our lives that the climate scolds will ignore? Ep 2948Is Elon Musk Now a Climate Realist? - The Climate Realism Show #138
Elon Musk’s latest fortune was built on his Tesla electric vehicles, helped in no small measure by federal tax credits so more people could afford to buy the luxury items. For years, he’s marketed them as a way to help wean the world of oil and stop the imminent “climate change meltdown.” But The Washington Post reports that Musk’s abandonment of left-wing, trendy, virtue-signaling political views not only eventually led him to Donald Trump, but maybe out of the Climate Cult, altogether. And if Musk makes it OK to leave, will more prominent business leaders and cultural trend setters soon follow? On Episode #138 of The Climate Realism Show, The Heartland Institute’s H. Sterling Burnett, Anthony Watts, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely will cover that story, as well as some of the “Crazy Climate News of the Week.” Did you know the Chinese Communist Party is sending lots of money to “green energy” groups and support energy groups and universities in the United States? The UK’s obsession with reaching “Net Zero” is putting its military in danger on the battlefield. As Donald Trump prepares to take office in 2025, President Joe Biden is riding out his last days in the Oval Office. But instead of just focusing on the orderly transfer of power, Biden seems like he may be trying to sabotage Trump's upcoming term before it can even start. The latest annual United Nations climate conference, COP29, is about to wrap up in Baku, Azerbaijan – the second year in a row it has been held in a “petro state.” Add in the election of Donald Trump just before they convened, and it was a pretty grim affair if you are a global climate alarmist. Ep 2937Maple Syrup and Hot Air: Debunking Canada’s Climate Hype – The Climate Realism Show #135

We talk to guests Ron Davison of the Friends of Science Society and Tom Harris of the International Climate Science Coalition. On Episode #135 of The Climate Realism Show, we welcome the co-authors of Energy & Climate at a Glance: Canadian Edition, which outlines why the climate plans of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s climate plans will cause economic hardship in Canada and will do nothing measurable to improve the global climate. Ep 2936Everything Has Changed – In the Tank #473
Since Election Night, doesn’t everything feel different now? Not just our politics. but the whole mood of the country. Yes, some of our fellow Americans are in a very sad state. Clips of people filming their misery and sharing it with the world are everywhere. But for the majority of the country, is feels like a major societal and cultural shift has occurred. And there are a lot of people walking around with a new spring in their step. Our media has changed, with the legacy media’s corruption being its undoing. Our pop culture feels about to change, too, moving away from leftist moralizing and back to producing entertainment with broad appeal. It just feels like the politicization of everything is over, and we’re waking up in a new era in which leftism is no longer going to be the dominant force in American life.In a special Episode #473 of the In the Tank Podcast, guest host Jim Lakely welcomes The Heartland Institute’s Linnea Lueken and CFACT’s Chris Martz to discuss whether they share Jim's feeling that everything has changed. Ep 2934Trump Causes Climate Activists to Melt Down - The Climate Realism Show #134
Donald Trump’s massive landslide victory in Tuesday’s presidential election has climate activists around the world melting down. Trump called measures to control climate change “one of the great scams” of the world, and said at one of his final rallies “who the hell cares?” if the sea levels rise. Trump will immediately get America out of the Paris Climate Agreement, and promised in his acceptance speech this week to get as much “liquid gold” out of ground in the United States as possible. Climate Clown Michael Mann is apoplectic, of course. Climate activists in the UK vandalized the US embassy in London with orange paint. And X, formerly Twitter, was full of climate loonies losing their minds. We’ll go over all of that, and have a little schadenfreudic fun at their expense. On Episode #134 of The Climate Realism Show, we welcome the Carbon King, Jason Isaac CEO of the American Energy Institute to discuss the future of climate and energy policy in the restoration of the Trump administration. Trump has been elected as the 47th President of the United States. Ep 2931"Not So Fast," on Coal Closures, Its Still Vital To America (Guest: Matt Mackowiak)
"Not So Fast," is a campaign to make it obvious to the general public, regulators, and legislators alike that coal still plays a vital role to play in the U.S. electric power supply and in industrial production, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. It is way too soo to put it out to pasture and doing so could be dangerous, putting our economy and national security at risk. The push to quickly end coal's use and rapidly expand the use of renewables will harm the U.S. and won't impact climate change, especially when one realize the industrial production of wind and solar use coal as well. Ep 2930Climate Change Policies, Killing the American Dream
Climate change policy is often framed as a challenge to personal freedoms and choices, especially when policies seem to impose strict limits on individuals’ lifestyles and economic options. For example, regulations that mandate renewable energy or limit fossil fuel use can feel like a direct restriction on the American dream—the idea that with hard work, anyone can achieve prosperity and a higher standard of living. These policies sometimes require sacrifices that may impact businesses and workers in traditional energy industries, as well as limit consumer choices in cars, appliances, home energy sources, and travel options. Additionally, many people worry that climate policies prioritize environmental goals over economic growth, which can restrict innovation, hinder job creation, and raise costs for families. Critics argue that climate policy, especially if it involves heavy-handed government intervention, reduces personal choices by dictating what types of products, energy, and resources individuals can access. For many, this perceived loss of choice challenges core values of independence, opportunity, and personal freedom, which are at the heart of the American dream. Ep 2927Why War? (Guest: Richard Overy)
Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by renowned historian Richard Overy to discuss his new book, Why War? They chat about why has war been such a consistent presence throughout the human past, and indeed in the human present, and what are the major drivers and motivations for war, how each has contributed to organized conflict, and whether humanity will ever evolve away from organized conflict. They also discuss the impulses embedded in human biology and psychology, the incentives to conflict developed through cultural evolution, and how competition for resources, or conflicts stirred by the passions of belief, the effects of ecological stresses, the drive for power in leaders and nations, and the search for security all contribute to this phenomenon that is unique human.Get the book here: https://wwnorton.com/books/9781324021742Show Notes:The Telegraph: James Holland – “Why humanity’s appetite for war will never be sated”https://www.telegraph.co.uk/books/non-fiction/why-war-richard-overy-review/Times Literary Supplement: Edward N. Ep 2926Rhetoric and Reality - The Politics of Climate Change
The whole world seems to be nervously awaiting the outcome of the presidential election, which is just 10 days away — perhaps no group more than the global climate cabal. Climate and energy policy is a topic barely mentioned on the campaign trail, and in the debates. But voters are going to decide in November whether America keeps spending billions to be a “leader” in global climate action schemes or pull out of the scam altogether ... and maybe for good.On Episode #132 of The Climate Realism Show our guest is Steve Milloy, publisher of Junkscience.com, senior fellow at the Energy & Environment Legal Institute, and member of the EPA transition team for the first Trump presidency. The Biden-Harris administration has pledged billions of US tax dollars for “global climate action.” Would it be too late to get a refund on that if Trump is elected? Would a second Trump administration get even more aggressive with producing oil and gas? Could he end the taxpayer-subsidized and failing “green energy” industry with the stroke of a pen? And what will the next four years of climate policy look like if Kamala Harris wins?Heartland’s Anthony Watts, H. Sterling Burnett, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely will also cover some of the Crazy Climate News of the week and take your questions in the chat. Join us LIVE at 1 p.m. ET this Friday and every Friday. The Heartland Institute’s Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo present episode 470 of the In The Tank Podcast. When Elon Musk expressed interest in purchasing Twitter and making it a bastion for free speech, he simultaneously put a target on his back for the political elites. In a recent development, leaked documents appear to show advisors to the Kamala Harris campaign have plans to "kill Musk's Twitter." Elon Musk's response? "This is war." Also, has the media completely lost it? Ep 2924Climate Alarmist Education - The Climate Realism Show #131
America’s educational system used to cover the “three Rs” — reading, writing, and ’rithmetic – but that has long been abandoned from elementary school through college and even medical school and replaced with ideological indoctrination. Now the University of California, San Diego is requiring students to take a class in “climate change” to earn a degree. Classes such as “The Astronomy of Climate Change”, “Gender and Climate Justice”, “Indigenous Approaches to Climate Change,” and “Environmentalism in Arts and Media” are on offer. What is driving the push for shoving climate alarmism into every academic subject under the sun?On Episode #131 of The Climate Realism Show, we invite Steve Goreham on to discuss. Steve is the executive director of the Climate Science Coalition of America and author of four books, including “Green Breakdown: The Coming Renewable Energy Failure.”Heartland’s Anthony Watts, H. Ep 2923Public Health Emergency Authority Act (feat. Kendyl Turner)
Welcome to the Emerging Issues Show - the show where we talking about topics that are popping up on the peripheries of society and public policy.Today, we dive into what should be a very controversial piece of proposed legislation that could grant governors immense emergency powers over society, circumventing individual liberty in the name of “public safety.” Seems pretty crazy, but the craziest aspect to it all is the same reason why you probably haven’t heard of it.Our guest today is Kendyl Turner, a fellow in the American Journey Experience Freedom Rising Fellowship program and author of the article “This bill would turn governors into tyrants, no legislature needed.” In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2921When Progressives Squash Progress - In The Tank #469
The Heartland Institute’s Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo present episode 469 of the In The Tank Podcast. Over this past week, we witnessed an engineering breakthrough from Elon Musk's SpaceX. The successful launch and recapture of the SpaceX Starship booster marks a pivotal moment in the future of space travel, showcasing advancements in reusability and cost efficiency. SpaceX is paving the way for a new era where space access becomes more routine and affordable, pushing the boundaries of what is possible beyond Earth's orbit. But remember, Elon Musk is frowned upon by the political elite. Instead of commemorating this occasion and encouraging this innovation, government bureaucrats have instead chosen to stifle Musk by denying his request for additional rocket launches. Also, we are another week closer to the election and it appears Kamala Harris is getting increasingly desperate.Elon Musk's Starship BreakthoughSpace - SpaceX plans to catch Starship upper stage with 'chopsticks' in early 2025, Elon Musk sayshttps://www.space.com/spacex-starship-upper-stage-chopstick-catch-elon-muskEconomist - Starship will change what is possible beyond the Earthhttps://www.economist.com/leaders/2024/10/16/starship-will-change-what-is-possible-beyond-the-earthProgressives vs. ProgressNYT - California Rejects Bid for More Frequent SpaceX Launcheshttps://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/12/us/spacex-launch-california.htmlLA Times - SpaceX sues California regulators, alleging anti-Musk bias in rocket rejectionhttps://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-10-16/spacex-political-bias-coastal-commission-lawsuitKamala's Bret Baier InterviewFox News - VP Harris to sit down hours from now with Bret Baier for first Fox News interviewhttps://www.foxnews.com/politics/vp-harris-sit-down-hours-from-now-bret-baier-first-fox-news-interviewKamala Is Getting DesperateReuters - Harris could join Joe Rogan podcast in hunt for male votes, sources sayhttps://www.reuters.com/world/us/kamala-harris-could-join-podcaster-joe-rogan-an-interview-sources-2024-10-15/Yahoo - Harris-Trump polls tighten, but PredictIt and Polymarket tell a different storyhttps://finance.yahoo.com/news/harris-trump-polls-tighten-predictit-173916471.html In The Tank broadcasts LIVE every Thursday at 12pm CT on on The Heartland Institute YouTube channel. Ep 2920To Run the World: The Kremlin's Cold War Bid for Global Power (Guest: Sergey Radchenko)
Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Sergey Radchenko, Wilson E. Schmidt Distinguished Professor at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, to discuss his new book, To Run the World: The Kremlin's Cold War Bid for Global Power. They chat about how the Soviet struggle with the United States and China reflected its irreconcilable ambitions as a self-proclaimed superpower and the leader of global revolution, and how this tension drove Soviet policy throughout the second half of the 20th Century. They also discuss whether Soviet foreign policy was motivated more by Marxist-Leninist ideology or by traditional Russian imperialism and security concerns. Ep 2919Breaking Down Hurricane Milton - The Climate Realism Show #130
After a slow start to the 2024 Hurricane Season, it seems like Mother Nature wants to make up for lost time. First Helene hit the Florida Panhandle and caused a disaster in Appalachia. And this week, Hurricane Milton struck an area of the Florida Gulf Coast that hadn’t be hit with a storm this strong in more than 100 years. On Episode #130 of The Climate Realism Show, The Heartland Institute’s H. Sterling Burnett, Anthony Watts, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely welcome back Stan Goldenberg, one of the nation’s top hurricane experts, to break down Hurricane Milton. Was this actually and officially a “major” hurricane by the time it made landfall? We will also cover some of the Crazy Climate News of the Week, including Bill Nye saying if you need to vote for Kamala Harris to stop hurricanes, Al Gore exploiting hurricanes for fun and profit, and the seemingly unsinkable and ridiculous notion that humans are able to seed and even steer hurricanes.
