19. Astrology as Praxis with Britten LaRue
What does 'astrology as praxis' mean? How do we invite our whole selves to learn and apply astrology in our lives? What does it mean to remember our participation in the cosmic body? In this conversation, Britten LaRue and I mused on the title of our upcoming year-long astrology learning container: Astrology as Praxis. We discussed how this concept came to us, why it feels so meaningful as two mystic-astrologers who came from long backgrounds of good ol' academia, and the ways that synthesizing astrological concepts into our daily lives as humans have helped us heal and dream new realities. We also discussed the implication of considering the concept of astrology as praxis on our facilitation style, and we break down the juicy subtitle of this course: Remembering our Participation in the Cosmic Body. We warmly welcome you to visit our course page to learn more about this offering and sign up to receive updates from us. Britten and I feel so thrilled and proud of what we’re co-creating, which is unlike anything we’ve seen in the astrological community. Our course will begin on September 10, 2022 and registration will open for a brief window of time on August 26-28, 2022. In the meantime, we will continue to weave conversations around this vast topic of Astrology as Praxis! 18. Astrology as a Living Being with Britten LaRue
What if we begin treating astrology as a living being? What if astrology is a wise elder or a trusted friend? How will that change the way we talk about challenging transits and moments in our lives? In this conversation, my dear friend, brilliant collaborator, and first astrology teacher Britten LaRue and I announce our very exciting new offering: a year-long astrological learning container we lovingly titled ASTROLOGY AS PRAXIS: REMEMBERING OUR PARTICIPATION IN THE COSMIC BODY.We sat down to talk about how each of us came into astrology, how astrology invites us into a state of wonder (which can feel very destabilizing), the joys and challenges of collaborating and co-creating, and we invite you to expand your perspectives beyond the narrow lens of how our capitalist, consumerist culture sees and uses astrology. We warmly welcome you to visit our course page to learn more about this offering and sign up to receive updates from us. 17. Verena Borell: Mercury & The Outer Planets
How can Mercury open the portal to the outer planets: Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto? What is Mercury’s evolutionary intent? How can we foster a collaboration with our Mercurial mind in our soul’s journey? My guest in conversation today is the brilliant evolutionary astrologer and my dear friend, Verena Borell. Our conversation revolved around the relationship and interplay between Mercury and the outer planets. When Verena suggested this topic, I noticed our shared energetic field lit up. It feels electrifying to pay tribute to our chart ruler (Verena is a Gemini rising, and I’m a Virgo rising) - to reflect on how our Mercurial curiosity assists us in our soul’s evolution, and how our analytical minds can serve as a bridge to accessing the pure intelligence of all creation.Verena also shared how she discovered Evolutionary Astrology and her journey in deepening her relationship with this wisdom tradition, the challenges in learning and sharing astrological insights, and what it means to embody Mercury in this lifetime. Here’s Verena’s bio:Verena Borell lives and works as an evolutionary astrologer, writer, creatrix and translator for cosmic energies in Munich but will move to Austria this summer. She offers 1:1 Evolutionary Astrology Sessions in German and English language and supports clients with “Cosmic Guidance“ over several months on their soul’s journey. To expand and deepen the wisdom school of evolutionary astrology, Verena started last summer to read the Akashic Records for herself and her clients, too. Blessed with gifted and wise teachers such as Sabrina Monarch and Ari Moshe Wolfe, Verena considers herself as an eternal student. Born with a strong Gemini and Sagittarius axis and a fully loaded 12th house, Verena has the deep desire to share the light, her learnings and experiences with other souls. She teaches her “Living Astrology Intensive Program“ in German language, gives astrology workshops and shares her astrological knowledge, intuitive insights and cosmic experiences on her Instagram channel @verenaborell, via her Mercury Messages Newsletter and her Mercury Dreams Podcast in German language.Verena considers astrology as a loving and living experience. For her, astrology and the planets are neither above nor detached from life but rather a part of an enchanted, wise and meaningful universe which includes nature, earth, the cosmos, humans, animals and also entities from other dimensions and extraterrestrial realms. Verena considers evolutionary astrology and the akashic records as powerful systems and magical tools to navigate our soul’s experience in this incarnation here in earth school and to connect with a higher Truth, Love and Source. Because of that, rituals, meditation and prayers to the planets, goddesses and gods are part of her astrological practice, soul’s path and heart work. You can sign up for Verena’s Mercury Messages newsletter either in English or in German, follow her on Instagram @verenaborell and visit her website. 16. Remembering Our Inherent Worth (Solo)
You may have heard the phrase "You are inherently worthy" floating around in the collective. But have we paused to consider the truly radical implication of this phrase? If we truly believe that our worth is inherent, what shifts are available in how we relate to ourselves, to our communities, and to the 'authorities'? What other portals might we open if we get into the practice of embodying this knowing of our inherent worth? What revolutions might be start if we believe ourselves to be children of the universe, rather than limited by man-made governing bodies?A few months ago, I channeled a workshop for The Wild Ones community's virtual retreat. In the past couple weeks, I've felt a nudge to update the content of this workshop and share it widely. When Roe v. Wade was overturned in the US this past week, I knew it's time for me to share a new offering that went a little bit deeper than the one I shared previously. While the previous version of this offering felt abstract and personal, I believe this is a rhizomatic offering. In engaging with this offering, you're beginning a ripple effect that can provide a powerful and potent shift in the collective. In this offering, I shared some perspectives that have blossomed and synthesized from my Akashic and astrology practice, as well as a guided meditation to infuse this knowing into your energetic body. If you feel called, I'd love to hear about any insights, messages, and realizations you experienced from this offering. Feel free to email me at [email protected]. It is my hope that this offering meets you wherever you are. That it will serve you even if you found it months after the release. This podcast is hosted, produced, and edited by Jonathan Koe. 15. Marika Hamahata Clymer: The Ecology of Healing
What does it mean to be a healer within a capitalist, colonial framework? How do we honor the complexity of our healing practice as complex humans? My guest in conversation today is my wise Reiki teacher, Marika Hamahata Clymer. Our conversation revolved around the idea of what it means to be a healer for ourselves and for our communities, how reigniting our relationship with the land is in itself an embodiment practice, and what it means to create a learning community while divesting from the model of the ‘guru.’ Marika shared how her journey as a farmer led her to create her year-long Reiki program, Foundations of Energetic Ecology, how to reimagine our bodies through ecological frameworks, and what it means to teach Reiki from an animist, Japanese perspective. Here’s Marika’s bio: Marika Hamahata Clymer (she/her) is a healer, teacher, birth attendant, and mother who inhabits Occupied Duwamish Territory - Seattle, WA. Of Indigenous Ainu, Japanese, mixed European lineages, Marika’s practice is emergent of her ancestral communities - including people, plant, animal, and land. You can find more about Marika’s program by visiting www.energeticecologynw.com. 14. Nick Kepley: Finding Wisdom at The Margin
My guest in conversation today is the brilliant Nick Kepley. We sat down for an open, expansive conversation about the margin. We explored what it means to be in a constant quest for the balance between deconstructing our subconscious replication of oppressive systems in our spiritual practices and creating beautiful personal and public practice that centers inclusivity.Nick shared profound insights they've gained from listening to the margin and how it's served as an invitation to question the philosophy behind the concept of archetypes. Nick also shared their current thoughts about what it means for them to hold the identity of a white practitioner - to embody the search without appropriation and extraction. Here's Nick's bio: Nick Kepley is a white, queer, non-binary Tarot anarchist who believes in the power of words and their complete inability to describe reality. Since 2011, Nick has been working as a Tarot facilitator, utilizing the cards as a reflective tool, and witnessing the conversations that take place between clients and their deeper knowing. In addition to this work, Nick is also the co-creator of the In Search of Tarot guided journal collection, the founder of The Searcher's Symposium for Tarot Education, and the host of the In Search of Tarot podcast. They are currently writing a book that imagines a new kind of mythopoetics for healing and reclaiming marginal identity. You can learn more connect with Nick by visiting manofthecards.com or by following them on Instagram @insearchoftarot. You can also listen to Nick's podcast, In Search of Tarot, and support the podcast's Patreon account. I was recently a guest on Nick's podcast. We discussed the idea of what astrology is, how we can work with archetypes, and healing our relationship to the idea of divination. It was probably one of the most powerful conversations I've been a part of. Listen to the episode here. 13. Liberating Our Unique Voice Through Podcasting (Solo)
Many of us struggle with sharing our creative projects. How do we move from the space of fear, of stuckness, of doubt into liberation, generous sharing, and, dare we hope, ease?In this solo episode, I took a walk down memory lane and shared the BTS (behind-the-scenes) stories of how I created this podcast - from its ideation to gestation to birth. 12. Britten LaRue: Emergence Astrology
I’m honored to have Britten LaRue as my partner in this conversation. Together, we explored Britten’s unique approach to the craft of astrology. She brilliantly coined the term Emergence Astrology to describe her practice and we traced the journey of how that concept crystallized for her as well as how her relationship with seeking answers has changed since her astrological journey began. We also discussed how to resource one’s self in order to steward creative ideas, how to compost your life experiences and the skills you learned from previous chapters of your life in order to build the life that feels resonant to you, and Britten’s experience stepping into the role of someone who helps others answer their calling to share their gifts with others - which required her to de-center herself in community while also allowing her gifts to assist others. Here's Britten's bio: Britten LaRue is a transformational life guide and magical business coach. 11. Sabrina Monarch: Pluto, Manifestation & Shadow Work
My guest in conversation today is one of my beloved astrology teachers, friend, and mentor, Sabrina Monarch. We sat down sometime in late 2021 to record a deep, honest, nuanced, and open conversation about Sabrina’s personal practices. Sabrina shared how our spiritual practices and spiritual lives can be a 360 degree practice - from finding ourselves reflected in an archetypal language to manifestation and visualization to allowing that to trickle down to more fully owning up to our Plutonic power on an embodied way. We discussed the very real, personal ways that astrology helped Sabrina through her own spiritual awakening, how true manifestation and shadow work are actually two sides of the same coin, and how Pluto relates to her embodiment practices. Here's Sabrina's bio: Sabrina Monarch is an author, evolutionary astrologer, and counselor/coach. She gained an unconventional education in creative writing by discovering an online writing community at age 12 and gaining dozens of mentors who would help her learn how to write for the next several years. She developed an interest in astrology at a young age as well, and took her craft deeper in her early twenties. She writes weekly forecasts at www.monarchastrology.com, is the host of a podcast about spiritual lifestyle and personal evolution called Magic of the Spheres, and she teaches astrology online, including an all-levels Evolutionary Astrology Intensive and advanced alumni courses. Sabrina is widely appreciated for her poetic voice and capacity to name subtle, abstract undercurrents of any particular astrological moment. She has an M.A. in Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness from the California Institute of Integral Studies and currently resides in Portland, Oregon.Connect with Sabrina on Instagram @sabrinamonarch, on Facebook, or through her website www.monarchastrology.com. Sabrina's Evolutionary Astrology Intensive is such a potent offering that brings together communities of curious and brilliant seekers together for a deep dive into a soul-centered astrological path, of which I'm a proud alumni. 10. Mallory Dowd: Love Notes to Capricorn
In today’s episode, I had a conversation with my friend Mallory Dowd. Mallory and I discussed the archetype of Capricorn - which we both feel can be quite misunderstood, or perhaps is up for a re-thinking, re-visioning, re-defining. We spoke to how Capricorn can be understood beyond the confines of our patriarchal, colonial, capitalistic framework as The Artist, The Mystic, The Ritualist, The Crone. Mallory also shared her beautiful love notes to Capricorn, some thoughts around how to work with the Capricorn energy when we feel like there’s too much of it in our system, and how Capricorn is personally meaningful to her when seen through the lens of her lineage. As Virgo risings, Mallory and I both have Capricorn ruling the 5th house of joy, creativity, pleasure, and self-expression in our birth charts. This conversation serves both as a devotional prayer and a critical study of Capricorn through the lens of our lived experiences and the infinite possibilities this archetype holds. Here's Mallory's bio: Mallory Dowd is a tarot reader, artist, teacher, theatre-maker, storyteller, and mystic. She has been holding space for over 15 years in varying roles as a clinical case manager, domestic violence advocate, support group facilitator, teacher, and tarot reader. As an artist, Mallory aims to enchant and awaken, casting spells with her words and urgently embodying the gifts of creativity, imagination, and play. As a reader, she holds warm and compassionate space in which to embrace the energies and invitations that linger on the edges of awareness, desire, and change. She currently resides in Seoul, South Korea.Connect with Mallory through her website and her Instagram @mallorydowd - where you can check out her blackout poetry and her profound musings on the tarot. Mallory offers both live and recorded readings, and I highly recommend you check out her very potent offerings. 9. Rebecca Padgett: Healing The Inner Child Through Art & Mysticism
In today’s episode, I’m joined by my friend Rebecca Padgett. As humans who identify both as artists and mystics, Rebecca and I wanted to explore the intersection between these two worlds. We discussed how artmaking and mystical practices can connect us deeper with our true selves and heal our inner child, ways to work with our inner critic (which is a topic we both know quite well as two Virgo risings), and how to honor our lineage through our personal and public practices. Rebecca also has a stellium of planets in Libra in her 2nd house, and she shared some incredible wisdom about the 2H that really helped me understand this astrological house better. Here's Rebecca's bio:Rebecca Padgett is a tarot reader, astrologer, visual artist, and dedicated student of divinatory and intuitive practices. She lives and works in a century farmhouse near Warsaw, Ontario. Her attraction to all things mystical began in childhood. From a young age, she felt a connection to something more than what she could see and feel in this physical world. As her intuition developed, so did her sensitivity to the energy of others here and on the “other side.” Inspired by her family lineage, she undertook an intensive period of study with a variety of internationally renowned teachers, astrologers, and tarot readers to clarify her own experiences, find her voice, and refine her ability to share her intuition with others. She takes great pride in being able to reflect that knowledge to each person who comes to her seeking answers and guidance.Connect with Rebecca on Instagram @mirroredmystic and read more about her offerings on her website www.mirroredmystic.comI’ve had the privilege of having Rebecca hold space for me in readings, and I marveled at Rebecca’s ability to dial into the most important issue that I presented while also staying very present. She is currently living and experiencing our global collapse from the shores of Paris, France. 7. Mary Schuch: Why Are We Obsessed with Cults?
In today’s episode, my guest in conversation and my partner in crime is Mary Schuch. As two survivors of religious trauma who are still #1 Fan of Spirit (TM), we explored Hierophant themes: cultish behaviors, why we engage in them, and how developing an awareness of power dynamics can lead us to new ways of being in teacher-student relationships. We also discussed Mary’s relationship to her inner teacher and how it’s shifted through being in voluntary learning spaces and committing to her own personal practices. Our conversation was fun, funny, wild, irreverent, and completely non-linear. Listening back, it feels brave to me - questions and ponderings were required and answers were optional. We spoke in metaphors and along the way, there were tons of laughters, detours, thinking on our feet, and, of course, cursing. Here's Mary's bio:Mary describes herself as someone who is committed to showing up for the experience of belonging in a human body.Informed by her upbringing as a homeschooled pastor's kid and the eighth of eleven siblings, Mary is reclaiming her right to exploration and education. She values meditative multidisciplinary living through her practices of writing, music, art, movement, breadmaking, astrology, and being outdoors. Through these avenues, Mary is joyfully emerging as an intuitive and comedic mystic.Mary has spent most of the last decade deep in thought in gardens, on a lobster boat, and more recently, an oyster farm. She is originally from the Chicago area and currently lives on an island in Maine.Connect with Mary on Instagram @maryschuch and book a reading with her. Mary always helps me gain new insights and perspectives, and she also makes me laugh - which is truly the best medicine. Mary also mentioned the book Writing the Mind Alive: The Proprioceptive Method for Finding Your Authentic Voice by Linda Trichter Metcalf, Tobin Simon.Sign up for my newsletter to read my essays and be the first to hear about new offerings here.If you've enjoyed and benefited from the podcast, I invite you to apply for private mentorship and coaching with me. 6. Natasha Levinger: Empowering Ourselves Through Energy Healing
In today’s episode, I had a conversation with Natasha Levinger, who’s an intuitive reader, inner child healing teacher, and energy healer. We discussed Natasha’s journey to finding this work, the difference between energy reading / energy healing and psychic work, the role of empowerment and imagination in her work; the relationship between creativity, perfectionism, and collaboration; and also some very nuanced discussions on love, light, and spiritual bypassing. It’s a conversation with lots of full-bellied laughs - and listening back I love how Natasha’s generous and kind energy really came through.CW: We discussed suicidal thoughts in this episode. Here’s Natasha's bio: Natasha grew up as a sensitive empath in a home where it was very challenging to be one. After she left home she became impassioned to know herself well enough to decipher what was her information or her feelings and what was coming from her family programming and trauma or other people. After years of self healing and education ranging from a B.A. in Human Development to a variety of disciplines of energy healing, she decided to make it her life’s work to help others.Using a mix of an energy reading and healing model that involves the chakra system and other modes of therapeutic models such as Inner Child Healing and Mindful Self Compassion, she has helped hundreds of people to heal past trauma. She also has a passion for animals and loves helping people connect and communicate to their animals with her help. Through her practice, Highest Light Healing, she looks forward to helping even more people through classes, sessions with her, guided meditations and more.Natasha lives in Asheville, NC with her husband, two children and (currently) 16 rescue animals!Connect with Natasha through her website, Instagram @highestlighthealing, her podcast with Tess Whitehurst Magic Monday, and her energy reports on MindBodyGreen. 3. Aliza Penelope: On Neptune - Coming Together and Dissolving
In today’s episode, I had a conversation with my friend Aliza Penelope. We spoke about Aliza’s very synchronistic and magical introduction to astrology and energy, her evolving relationship with the two modalities, and the language of dreams. At some point during our conversation, I felt like we entered another space and dimension - a world where personal storytelling, astrology, archetypes, and dreams all melt into a unified field. It all felt very Neptunian to me. At the heart of our conversation, Aliza and I were exploring what it means to be inherently contradictory beings, humans who are capable of experiencing deep connections and as well as challenges. Aliza and I are also both Virgo risings and I think you can sense this during our discussions on how to live in a world where things are always coming together and dissolving. Here's Aliza's bio: Aliza is a writer whose process circles around and through astrology, film, music, visual art, sociology, psychology and the dream-space. She values process and mistakes, vulnerability, intimacy, and imperfection. She is a searcher, and her holy grail is a deeper and deeper kindness.Connect with Aliza through her website charikloenergy.com to book chart consultation and remote energy sessions, as well as through her IG, @c_h_a_r_i_k_l_o to read her beautiful astrology writings. 5. Jenny Chu: The Spiral of Time
In this episode, Jenny Chu and I created a rich conversation on time that stretched beyond strict, societally-agreed definitions. We reached into relational, experiential exploration of how we can be with time, calling into question our perception of time, our sense of the spirit of time, our shared love for the work of the Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli, and how studying astrology has changed our relationship with time. Jenny has a truly brilliant mind and is a beautiful conversationalist so our discussion (spiralically) branched out in many different ways that feels very organic. In addition to the topic of time, we also explored the Buddhist idea of the Middle Path, the I-Ching and other forms of divination, and even how Evolutionary Astrology connects with Buddhism. All of these seemingly disparate topics are brought together in such a seamless way throughout this conversation. A little bit about our astrological birth charts - Jenny’s North Node in Gemini is in very close conjunction with my Moon in Gemini, and I think you’ll probably be able to hear it. This conversation feels lit up and connected with the energy of Gemini and Sagittarius in the best way possible. Here's Jenny's bio: Jenny M. Chu is a thinking artist and she's an older sister to a younger brother and raised by two immigrant parents by way of Saigon and Hong Kong. She has studied evolutionary astrology with Sabrina Monarch, embodied astrology with Renee Sills, and is currently in the Transits and Predictive Astrology Cohort led by Oak of Oak Astrology that centers decolonization and the BIPOC experience.Connect with Jenny through her Instagram account @AZN_Auntie_Astro. Jenny is currently offering 1-hour natal chart readings through AZN Auntie Astro. 1. Introducing Healing the Spirit (Solo)
There are two forces that I feel most palpably in my lived experiences thus far: creativity and connection to the numinous. On the surface, they appear contradictory. What does it mean to be a creative, agential being that's also connected to a larger network that one can't fully control? And what does that have to do with healing? In this episode, I welcome you to the podcast by sharing what I've learned from my own journey. From a position of continued learning, rather than expertise. From authorship, rather than authority. What does healing even mean and can we ever really know? What does that process look like? And how can the very human technologies of astrology, archetypes, and artmaking help us remember what it means to be the child of the cosmos?Have a listen and connect with me if you'd like to share your thoughts. 4. Sharon Koe: Embodying Radical Acceptance
In today’s episode, my guest in conversation is Sharon Koe. Our conversation here revolved around radical acceptance: what it means, how it applies to working with others in learning spaces, and how Sharon is working with radical acceptance in her work, which has been impacted significantly by the lockdown. Finally, we also discussed how systemic silencing impacts us on a somatic level. It was a rich and truly spiralic conversation full of metaphors. Here's Sharon's bio: Sharon is an educator, passionate (sometimes to a fault!) to free minds (and bodies) out of fear, and make a-ha moments a common experience. These days she does that through Pilates, and also through written and spoken words - if you let her talk, she just keeps going. She owes a lot of her a-ha moments through her forever teacher and guide, the host of this podcast (aka Jonathan!) :)Connect with Sharon through her personal IG account @sharonchristykoe for her Ramble Cure Project and new updates on what she's up to, as well as through her studio's account @bravespinepilates for her use of words to free bodies of fear.
