Here are the deets of what this episode is all about: Etsy is investing over $50 million in 2023 to ensure that the platform remains safe and special for its community as it grows. Key areas of focus include clearer policies, removing counterfeit items and listings, easier appeals, transparent communication with sellers, and reducing fraud. These efforts help maintain a marketplace where creativity, authenticity, and diversity thrive. In 2022, investments in automated technology helped remove more than four times as many listings violating the Handmade Policy compared to the previous year. The Etsy Reporting Portal was launched to make reporting intellectual property violations easier, and cases were resolved more quickly. Etsy also invested in its support teams to offer live chat support 24/7 for most topics. As Etsy continues to progress, updates will be shared with the community. Money is tight, and running an Etsy business does require coinage as they said back in the 80s. With that being said there are things you can do to run your business lean so you can squeeze out as much profit as possible. Here are the top tips I cover in this week's podcast: Keep inventory low. Handmade sellers should have little or no inventory until they know what sells. Vintage sellers need more inventory but make sure you're buying what is selling. Use eBay for comps. Do not buy postage at the post office or UPS. Use etsy or third-party shippers such as pirate ship. Buy packaging in bulk online, not locally. Amazon or supplyhut.com are good places to start. Use a thermal printer. It's a bigger cost up front but there will be tons of savings long term. Do everything yourself, and outsource later. If you outsource from the onset you'll always have to rely on someone else. Don't run ads… right away. Use your smartphone and not a fancy camera. Making money online, specifically on Etsy may seem easy or at least that's how it's often presented. How do you determine what to sell? Do you have a strategy to help you find and create products for your niche that will be successful? Today I want to throw you a lifeline and give you the 3 step process I use to find products to sell in my niche that will have the BEST chances of success. Step 1: There are 3 types of products you should be focusing on. They are new (to your shop), seasonal/holiday, or similar. Decide what type of product you want to sell or at least have a few keywords in mind or subject matter in mind. Preferably have at least 3 ideas. Step 2: Do product/keyword research. Use the Etsy search bar or Alura. Alura will give you valuable sold stats and more information than the search bar. Step 3: Pick the idea that is performing the best according to sales/search volume. Create the product and get it listed. Doing these steps will give you the BEST chance that your new product will sell.
