And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us to the dramatic moment when Jesus had a confrontation with the Devil himself. It was the moment the Savior of our souls crossed paths with the accuser of the brethren. Pastor Greg Laurie continues covering The Beatitudes, where we see what the actions of happy people look like. Notes: Matthew 5 The Sermon on the Mount is only for Christians Happy are the humble Happy people are "unhappy" people A happy person will be a meek person A happy person passionately desires a righteous life Read Matthew 5:7 Point #1: Happy people are merciful people Extend God's mercy toward you to others; forgiven people should be forgiving people Read Matthew 5:8 Point #2: A happy person will be a holy person Pure in heart = whole being is directed toward God. Faith 101 | Fighting Victoriously
If there’s a war raging, and someone mistakenly stumbles into the middle of it, the warriors don’t suddenly stop and say, ‘Hey, wait a minute, fellas, this guy isn’t part of it. A pilot said, “the basics of aviation are really quite simple. How to Be Happy, Part 1 | Sunday Message
Some people look for happiness in relationships, money, or shopping. Where do you look? Hint: If it's not to God, that's the wrong place! Pastor Greg Laurie reminds us that true happiness can only be found in a relationship with our Creator. Notes: "God cannot give us happiness and peace apart from Himself because it's not there." —C. S. Lewis Happiness comes from who you know, not what you have. "...Joyful indeed are those whose God is the Lord" —Psalm 144:15 The Christian faith is a happy faith. God wants you to be happy, contrary to popular belief. Angels brought good news that brings joy (Luke 2:10). God Himself is happy. Christians will still face tragedy. God's definition of happiness is different than ours. Biblical world-view: The Bible should change the way you see things. Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1). Jesus gave it to His disciples, not the multitudes; only Christians can live by this sermon. First 4 beatitudes deal with our relationship with God, the other 4 deal with our relationships with others. Blessed = happy. Read Matthew 5:2–9. Point #1: God wants you to be blessed and happy. Point #2: Happy people are humble people. Point #3: Happy people are "unhappy people." Point #4: A happy person will be a meek person. Point #5: A happy person passionately desires a righteous life. The only way to be a happy person is to know God. Not by chasing happiness, but by knowing God. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Give Me This Mountain | All In
During Jesus’ earthly ministry, He didn’t restore sight to just one eye. He didn’t feed most of the 5,000. He didn’t calm the storm on only half the Sea of Galilee. And He didn’t give part of His life on the cross to pay for some of our sins. As someone has said, “Sin had left a crimson stain, and He didn’t wash it light pink.” Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how Jesus gave His all . . . and the only appropriate response is from us is to give our all. Overcoming or Overcome | Standing with the Lord
Kids learn early on the playground that if a bully is bigger than them, it’s good to have a friend who’s bigger than the bully. A bully who has met his match is no longer a threat. As the Bible says, "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4 NKJV). Our adversary is no match for our Almighty God. We stand in victory when we stand with the Lord! Evangelism Jesus-Style | Winning Souls, Not Debates
In scholastic debates, they keep score. It’s a competition, and each side wants to win big. All too often, believers think sharing their faith is some kind of competitive debate. If they can score enough points, they win . . . and the other person automatically comes to Christ. But that approach can suddenly end the conversation, and even end the friendship. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how we’re to win souls, not debates. Good encouragement coming today. How to Live a Meaningful Life | Having A Spirit of Generosity
Wouldn’t it be a remarkable world if everyone tried to out-give one another? If we saw someone in need, we automatically took care of it. We were always looking for ways to help. God's Solution to Man's Problem | Sunday Message
Pastor Greg Laurie describes the theme of this message as “what happens when we don't follow the warning?” He takes us into Adam and Eve's story, where we get important takeaways on mankind's shortcomings. Notes: Genesis 4 The theme of this message is, “What happens when we don't follow the warning?” Genesis 3:6 Every temptation in life fits into three categories. 1 John 2:15–16 The Lust of the Flesh: Things that feel good. Genesis 3:6 The Lust of the Eyes: Things that look good. Genesis 3:6 The Pride of Life: Things that make you feel and look good. Genesis 3:6 The pride of life is an obsession with self. The world with its allure is the eternal foe. The flesh with its evil desires is the internal foe. Satan with his enticements is the infernal foe. Mark 2:21 God called out, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:10–13 Adam blamed God for what he himself had done. Genesis 3:12 We play a role in our own temptation and sin. Jeremiah 17:9 Because of Adam’s sin, we all suffer. Romans 5:12 Read: Genesis 4:1–7 The book of Genesis can be divided into three sections: Chapters 1–2: Generation, Chapters 3–11: Degeneration, and Chapters 12–50: Regeneration. Mankind wrecks everything he touches! Being exposed to truth does not guarantee you follow it. The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart! Hebrews 11:4 God wanted confession because that is the way to forgiveness! God gave Cain a warning. The Devil is always looking for trouble. Job 1:7 Ephesians 4:26–27 Sin is crouching at our doors, too! Shakespeare called envy the “green-eyed monster.” Jealously and envy are powerful and destructive sins we often underestimate. Envy has been described as a small-town sin that breeds in proximity. “The wicked envy and hate; it is their way of admiring.” —Victor Hugo Genesis 3:14–15 The Bible tells us Jesus was, “slain from the foundation of the world.” --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Some people come to Christ instantly, as soon as they hear the Gospel. It’s the miracle of a moment. Others resist that decision for decades, until one day they realize their need for Christ. How to Resolve Conflict | The Bible's Guidance on Conflict Resolution
In so many arguments, as one person is making her point, the other person is formulating his response. He’s not really hearing her point, he’s preparing his counterpoint. How to Resolve Conflict | The Role of Grace and Humility
Disagreement and conflict is almost inevitable in human relationships. When that happens, some people put up their fists . . . others call up their lawyer. Others look up the Proverb that says a soft answer turns away wrath. In the big picture, those moments can either undergird our efforts to share Christ, or undermine them. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us deal with everyone in a spirit of grace and humility. We’re in Acts chapter 15. Trouble In Paradise | Sunday Message
In Genesis 2, we get a close look at the events that occurred in the Garden of Eden. We get to focus on the relationship between God and man. Pastor Greg Laurie shares valuable points from this book today. Notes: Genesis 2/Genesis 3 Elohim is the appropriate word to portray God as the Majestic Creator. Yahweh is the personal name God uses when dealing with humanity. Read: Genesis 2:7–9 God created man and breathed life into him. The word, “breathed,” is warmly personal. Genesis 2:7 Eden means, “delight.” God placed man in a real place called, Eden. Eden was hand-made by God Himself, untouched by sin and death, perfect. Adam was tasked with naming the animals. Genesis 2:20 Read: Genesis 2:18, 21–25 God created woman and brought her to the man. The word, “helper,” does not imply inferiority; it’s the same term God uses to describe Himself as a helper to His people. God establishes the family and the home: A man and a woman. To have a successful marriage, you must both leave other relationships. Genesis 2:24 To have a successful marriage, the couple must cleave together. Cleave means, “to glue, to cling.” Marriage is a picture of Christ and the church! 1 Corinthians 7:32–33 Our greatest needs are not fulfilled in marriage but in Jesus! Read: Genesis 3:1–9 The devil undermines in four ways. Satan questioned God’s Word. “Has God, indeed, said?” Satan added to God’s Word. Genesis 3:3 God never said, “Neither shall you touch it.” Satan questioned God’s love. Satan denied God’s Word. Satan substituted his own lie. Every temptation can be resisted and overcome. James 1:12 Genesis 3:8 God wanted Adam to admit to and confess his sin. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org.
