“The Gift” (How to Keep Christmas Happy) | Sunday Message
Help us share the gospel in 2024! Pastor Greg Laurie points out that we often don’t appreciate the gifts we receive enough—including our God-given gift of salvation. He talks about what this gift brings, and how we should respond. Notes: Matthew 2 The gift that God gave to us. The gift that we give to God. The gift we give to others... The gift that God gave to us. Christians carry this gift in their hearts. It is salvation, the gift of eternal life. “The gift of God which is eternal life through Jesus Christ.” Romans 6:23 The gift God has given us is more valuable than any earthly gift; it’s called justification. Romans 5:1–2 The word justify speaks of the forgiveness of our sins. God takes our sin and forgives and forgets them! “God hurls our sins into the sea where they sink like a stone.” Micah 7:19 “For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:34 Do not choose to remember what God has chosen to forget. Justification means, “just as if it never had happened.” Justified means, “to put to one’s account.” Acts 13:38–39 The gift that we give to God. There is nothing we could ever give to God that would equal what He gave us. Read: Matthew 2:9–12 Gold, because Jesus was a King. Frankincense, because Jesus was our high priest. Myrrh, because Jesus came to die for our sin. “In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.” Proverbs 23:5 You are sitting in someone else’s sacrifice. The gift we give to others. The key to having a happy Christmas is not receiving but, rather, giving. A 10-Step Solution for Depression: Step 1: Do something for someone else who has greater needs than you. Step 2: Repeat Step 1 nine more times. 3 John 1:4 The only real happiness you will find is in Christ, not in Christmas but in Christ. “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself because it is not there. There is no such thing.” —C.S. Lewis --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Reflecting on the Past, Preparing for the Future | Sunday Message
Pastor Greg Laurie delivers important points on God’s faithfulness and our faith in Him. Notes: Two words stand out in our 50-year history: Faithfulness and faith. The faithfulness of God and our response of faith to His calling. Jesus promised to the church: “The gates of Hell shall not prevail against us.” God has remained faithful to lead, protect, and guide us each step of the way. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. I have a beautiful inheritance.” Psalm 16:6 “Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 Faith is not just intellectual ascent; it is also action. Faith is belief plus action. Faith is a living, restless thing; it cannot be inoperative. What saves is faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone. How does faith come? By listening, studying, and immersing yourself with the Word of God. Romans 10:17 Theology without apology. Worshiping Evangelizing Learning Loving Faith can make the difference between something happening and not happening. Faith sees what could be; a believer sees invisible things. Read: Matthew 14:28–31 Faith is the refusal to panic, and it has no back door. When you have a lapse of faith, call out to Jesus! Matthew 14:30–31 “Little faith” is one word in the Greek. With Peter’s eyes back on Jesus, “little faith” walked back to the boat. Matthew 14:32 We should never believe our doubts and doubt our beliefs. We should believe our beliefs and doubt our doubts. “Your faithfulness continues from generation to generation.” Psalm 119:90 Teach God’s Word faithfully. Invite people to come to Christ. What to Do When the Odds Are Against You | Sunday Message
We have to remember that God's perspective is different than our own. As Pastor Greg Laurie says, where we see weakness, God sees potential. Where we see the past, He sees the future. We see a lump of clay, He sees a beautiful sculpture... More on that in this episode! Notes: “In those days, Israel had no king, so the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” Judges 17:6 Israel was living in despair, but they finally called out to God to deliver them, and He did. Jeremiah 33:3 Read: Judges 6:12–14 “Why has all of this happened to us? And where are all the miracles we heard about in days gone by?” So, he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel?” Judges 6:15 God uses people who are humble. We see weakness, but God sees potential. We see a lump of clay, but God sees a beautiful sculpture. We see a lump of coal, but God sees a sparkling diamond. If you want to be used by God, be faithful in the little things. Judges 6:27 The hardest people to reach will always be your own family. As Jesus said, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own town.” Your family will never be reached by you compromising. This is what Lot did, trying to fit in with the culture around him. You can never reach a person by sinking to their level. Read: Judges 7:2–3 God wants the glory for the work He does. There is always God’s part, and there is our part. The Red Sea parted, but Israel had to still march through. Fear is contagious. Read: Judges 7:4–5 We, too, are in a spiritual battle, and God is looking for men and women today who will let their light shine in a dark place. Jesus made radical statements about commitment that caused thousands to leave because He knew these fickle multitudes were simply fair-weather followers. There are many in the church today that follow God in the sunshine, but when hardship or tragedy comes, they lose their faith. The faith that cannot be tested is the faith that cannot be trusted. The Lord is looking for some men and women who will blow the trumpet and are willing to take some chances and obey God, taking a stand first in their own homes. Nicodemus had a weak beginning but a strong finish. Better that than a strong beginning and a weak finish! --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Angels and Demons | A Deeper Look at Angels
The sum total of what many people know about angels came from a movie . . . or a TV show . . . or a book . . . or social media. But whether it came from a screenplay or a novel, it was fiction. Someone made it up. And it may have left real angels rolling on the floor laughing. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us to the authoritative source on angels. We’ll read the words of the Creator of angels with Scripture. It’s from the series called “Timeless.” Listen on harvest.org --- Learn more and subscribe to Harvest updates at harvest.org . Most pilots follow an unwritten rule: if they flip a certain switch and the plane suddenly starts going crazy, they switch it back. Pretty basic. Give Me This Mountain! | Sunday Message
Pastor Greg Laurie delivers a message on spiritual growth from Joshua 14. He reminds us of Caleb, a man who started and ended his spiritual race well! Notes: “What has been the greatest surprise of your life? ‘The brevity of it,”’ said Billy Graham. Philippians 3:13–14 Keep moving forward spiritually—the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. “The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.” Psalm 16:6 It doesn’t matter if we’ve held first for the first laps; we must finish! Acts 20:24 Caleb started and finished well, never losing his spiritual edge! We are to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We are to pray that both Palestinians and Jews will come to Christ. Joshua 14:11–12 Where did Caleb get this strength, stamina, and longevity? Read: Joshua 14:7–8 We must wholeheartedly follow the Lord (six times in the Bible we learn that Caleb wholeheartedly followed). The majority group did not see God for who He is, only problems. The minority group (Joshua and Caleb) saw God for who He is, and also saw the obstacles and challenges, but they also saw opportunities and great victories if they would attack. To have spiritual longevity and finish well, you don’t follow the crowd. Caleb, who wholeheartedly followed the Lord, had principles … being more concerned with God’s approval than mans! To have spiritual longevity, you must take God at His Word! Remember that God’s delays are not necessarily His denials. To have spiritual longevity, you must fight to the very end, as the Christian life is one of constant growth and learning. It is taking on new challenges and looking for new opportunities. Spiritual battle rages to the end of your life. “I (Caleb) am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me.” Joshua 14:11 It was the first love Caleb maintained, causing him to not lose his first strength. “Give me this mountain!” Joshua 14:12 Jesus Christ is coming again, so let’s be busy doing the Lord’s work. The Secret to Spiritual Success | The Power of the Scriptures
Our minds have a cruise control function, it would seem. We can be driving down afamiliar road, paying only a modicum of attention, and wonder when that last mile went by. The Holy Spirit & You, Part 2 | Allowing the Holy Spirit to Lead
Some believers wish there were a tried and true formula for bringing someone to Christ. Memorize these verses, rehearse these statements. If they ask this, you say that. Well, preparation is good . . . but sometimes people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out the Holy Spirit is the One who draws people to Christ. Don't Make Deals With the Devil | Sunday Message
Sometimes we like to justify sin as a "little" sin, but that "little" sin can continue to grow until it takes us over. Pastor Greg Laurie addresses this issue in the Christian life, encouraging us not to give the devil even an inch. Notes: The devil is looking for vulnerabilities in our lives. The Bible tells us that Satan can take many forms: he can come in open wickedness as the devil of Hell and a fiery dragon, or he can masquerade as an angel of light. Read: Joshua 9:3–6 The spiritual battle never stops. You are being attacked because you are a threat to the devil and his kingdom. People come into the church and say they are seekers, but sometimes they are sneakers. Judas was an affective actor, and no one suspected he was the betrayer. Do not make deals with the devil; you will be the loser! “Don’t give place to the devil.” Ephesians 4:27 If you give the devil an inch, he will take a mile! God can intervene if we have made a bad decision. Abortion is never an option … ever! We do not control what hand is dealt to us in life. We need to pray about things before we decide. Joshua 9:14 Always start with Scripture! God speaks to us through His peace. Colossians 3:15 God’s peace can act as an umpire in your life. Don’t be crippled by your past; learn from it! You cannot sell your soul; it’s not yours to sell. On the cross, Jesus broke all deals with the devil. Colossians 2:15 --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. The Holy Spirit & You, Part 2 | Responding to the Holy Spirit
In our natural bodies, there are many things inside that keep us alive, although we’ve. never seen them. Antibodies, clotting agents, intestinal flora, white blood cells. Now, spiritually speaking, there are invisible forces at work that want to help us and save us, although other forces want to destroy us. The Holy Spirit & You, Part 2 | What Does the Holy Spirit Show Us?
Few of us buy products to solve problems we don’t have. Why would you buy a flea collar if you don’t have a pet? But there are many people who have a problem they’re not yet aware of. They’re afflicted with the “good enough” syndrome. They’re convinced they’re good enough to get to heaven.
