We'll also talk about our first impressions of the new season of The Legend of Vox Machina and our hopes for the final season of Star Trek: Picard.

E159 - End of the OGL Controversy?
FullRoll a Wisdom Saving throw. 11? Oof. As a result of that fail you buy five more D&D source books. FullWhat does it look like when a corporation roles a Nat 1? It looks a lot like the last few weeks that Wizards of the Coast has had. Welcome back to the Galactic Driftwood Podcast! This week we're taking a look at the evolving situation resulting from Wizard of the Coast announcing changes to their Open Gaming License. Don't know what that is? We'll talk about what it is, why its important, and why creators in the Dungeons and Dragons space are up in arms. This is a developing situation, so everything we talk about is "at the time of recording".

E157 - Wednesday

E156 - Violent Night
FullYou better watch out. Santa Claus is coming. Welcome back, fellow Drifters, to the last episode of the year! And what a better note so send 2022 off than with an After Dark Podcast! This week, the valiant crew of the Galactic Driftwood gathered around a burning Yule Log (joined by our good friend Stu Burns) and watched Violent Night. Think if Die Hard and Miracle on 34th street had a perfect, flawless baby. Now, I gotta warn you, we're gonna be talking about some spoilers, so if you want to go in clean, go see the movie and then join us for the discussion. But if you just want to spread some holiday blood... I mean cheer, pull up a chair and join us! JOIN US! Also, like, subscribe, and leave a comment with your favorite kill or we'll leave you a lump of coal!

E155 - Dear Santa
FullHe's making a list. Checking it Twice. Gonna find out who's naughty and nice. Meeeeeeeerrry Christmas! Ho ho ho! If you're looking for gift ideas this is the episode for you! Our fondest dreams both monetary and immaterial will be laid bare for the whole world to hear! So, grab some wassail, some cookies and settle in for a short winter's episode!

E154 - 1899
Full1889... no wait, 1899! Welcome back, Drifters, for another transmission from the good ship, U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood! This week we're staying sci-fi but going to the past with a look at 1899, a new show that's streaming on Netflix! It's spooky! It's got mystery! It's got horror! We've got you covered this week! Beware, there's spoilers and if you're scared of them you should watch the series and THEN listen to the episode. But, either way, you should listen because spoilers or not, you know we're having fun.

E153 - Grab Bag Stories!
FullI am the night! I am vengeance! I. Am. BATMAN! Welcome back, Drifters! The good ship, the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood and her crew are in your orbit again. This week we're talking about a variety of things, but we're starting off with discussing a bit of bad news, with the recent death of Kevin Conroy, most well known for his portrayal of Batman and Bruce Wayne in the 90's Batman: The Animated Series. We also talk about Cosmic Film studios located in Lyons and some news about Dungeons and Dragons! Let us know what you're playing in the comments!

E152 - Werewolf by Night
FullAwooooooooooooooooo! Welcome back, Drifters! Sure, Halloween has been done for a month but it's never too late to keep the spooky train rolling. E151 - Cabinet of Curiosities
FullWe all love a good spook... weeelll most of us. Welcome back to another episode of the Galactic Driftwood Podcast! Even though we've moved past spooky season we're not quite done with it. There were too many good shows and stories that came out this year and now we've got a bit of a backlog. This week we're going to be talking about the Cabinet of Curiosities, an anthology show collected, (and a few episodes directed) by Guillermo del Toro, now airing on Netflix. We'll go through most of the episodes, so if you haven't seen it yet and don't want to be spoiled, consider this your warning. Overall, we have to say you can't sleep on this show... and then you won't be able to sleep after you watched it! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

E150 - Anime Nebraskon 2022
FullTime for an away mission! Welcome back, Drifters (the Captain has given our listeners a name) to the Galactic Driftwood Podcast! This week, we're going to be talking about Anime Nebraskon 2022, which enjoyed over 7000 attendees this year and happens right here in Omaha, Nebraska (Council Bluffs, Iowa, but only barely.) The con asked if we'd like to attend and cover the con, so we sent Chris, one of our resident anime experts, to check it out, take photos and video! Give us a listen or a watch! If you like what you see maybe we'll run into you at next years con!

E149 - She-Hulk
Full"HULK SMASH!" Greetings fellow "Drifters" (yeah, that's a thing now, I guess) The good crew of the Galactic Driftwood are sliding back into your local orbit to sample more of your fine pop-culture wares. This week, we're talking about She-Hulk, streaming on Disney+. This is another show that started a disagreement, a friendly one, among the crew. Warning, we're gonna be talking about spoilers, so if you haven't seen the show, go watch it and come back... or just tune on in and get SMASHED with spoilers!

E148 - Titane
FullWhat in the heck did we just watch?! Welcome to another After Dark episode of the Galactic Driftwood Podcast. Every now and again, the captain lets us out on shore leave and we make some questionable decisions. Like letting our good friend and frequent guest, Benito Garcia choose the movie. That necessitates some sampling of your local intoxicants to help us deal with the experience. This time we subjected ourselves to Titane an ... interesting horror movie. Really, you just have to hear us talk about it. Warning, we're going to spoil things, so if this is a movie you had on your list, watch it before listening!

E147 - The Haunted Argo Hotel
Full"Who ya gonna call?!" It's a dark and stormy night, the lights have long since gone out, but the crew of the Galactic Driftwood can't sleep with all these ghosts around. Welcome back for part two of our away mission to Crofton, NE and the haunted Argo Hotel! Stu Burns is back to help us talk about our experience spending the night in the Argo Hotel itself! We spoke with the proprietors and they had some stories to tell us about their personal experiences. Did we have any close encounters of our own? The only way to find out is to listen!

E146 - Bones in the Ash
Full"Look at all the bones! ... That rabbit's dynamite!" Greetings, Earthlings! As anthropologists, we understand that your primitive culture has a time of year that's more special than any other. Decorations come out, special treats are everywhere, and it truly is the happiest time of the year. In honor of your quaint Halloween customs, the crew has decided to go on an away mission, led by the Pastor of the Church of Nebraska Tourism and show favorite, Stu Burns! This is the first part of our two part trip to Crofton, NE to spend the night in the haunted Argo hotel! But that's the destination, and this episode is all about the journey! Specifically, we wanted to check out a couple sites on the way. This week we're talking about what we saw in Ashfalls, NE, a paleontological dig site where animal bones were preserved (after being killed by) ash from a super volcano eruption over 10 million years ago! We also visit the ghost town of Venus, NE. Don't worry, we've got the photos so check it out on YouTube!

E145 - Thor: Love and Thunder
Full"...if they be worthy, they shall possess the power of Thor." We're baaaaaaaaack! The U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood is sliding back into your local orbit with another episode, and this week we're discussing Thor: Love and Thunder, which is out of theaters and currently streaming on Disney+. This movie has our hosts divided, but no one has drawn phasers over it yet. While we're sorting that out, we'll also talk about Arcane, streaming on Netflix.

E144 - Things got weird
Full“As much of a tangent as we’ve gone on, I think we’ve gotten to a dark dark zone.” I think we might have been out in space too long. Captain Bill is starting to have some dark thoughts and Lt. Cmdr. Chris is along for the ride. Ostensibly we’re talking about the new Star Wars series Andor… but we’re gonna go down some rabbit holes. Some weird weird rabbit holes.

E143 - Look, we didn't read the Silmarillion
Full"There is only one Lord of the Ring. Only one who can bend it to his will. And he does not share power." The U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood is sailing through some rough space this week! In this episode we'll be talking about the new Lord of the Rings show on Amazon Prime and we are without a resident Tolkien expert. Turns out we know just enough about LotR to be wrong about a lot of stuff in what we've seen so far. For a fun game, get in the comments and let us know everything we got wrong. We'll also be taking a look at House of the Dragon, on HBO Max! Which show is your favorite?

E142 - The Sandman
Full"Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream..." Even in the sci-fi future that the crew of the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood needs to sleep every now and then. This week we watched and talked about the Sandman series, as airing on Netflix but originally written by Neil "Fucking" Gaiman. Unfortunately, there's some division in the crew as to whether or not this show rocks but thankfully, no one got pocket sand thrown in their face. Which would have been thematically appropriate but our matter replicators don't make sand anymore after the last "incident". Still, if you're on the fence, tune in and find out what the discussion is all about. Also, as usual, spoiler warning.

E141 - She-Hulk First Impressions
Full"You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." Welcome back to the bridge of the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood. Unfortunately, Captain Bill and Commander Linda are out on an away mission in Las Vegas, but the rest of the crew carries on in their absence, scanning and documenting all the latest nerd-culture your quaint world has to offer. This week, we're taking a first look at She-Hulk, Disney+'s newest Marvel show. Did we love it? Did it make us... angry? The only way to find out is to listen (or watch and subscribe on YouTube!)

E140 - Viva Star Trek Las Vegas!
FullCaptain's Log, stardate... uh, actually, we don't have those on Earth yet. So let's call it Earth-date, August 28th, 2022. Number One (aka Linda) and Number Two (aka Josh Caito) and I beamed into Bally's hotel and casino in Las Vegas for Creation Entertainment's "56 Year Mission" Star Trek convention. Our last trip to this "Kahn" (as attendees like to refer to it) was in 2019, before COVID, and thus a lot of things have changed! To start with, Creation Entertainment is no longer a member of the Federation (read: no longer the Paramount officially licensed conventioneer for Star Trek). So, what did that mean for this years Kahn? Stream this week's episode for a full report live from the convention site! Also, learn about a new, little-known, must-see scifi attraction near the heart of the Las Vegas strip.

E139 - Prey
Full"If it bleeds, we can kill it." Welcome back aboard the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood! We're back for another pass through your planet's newest movies and this week we're talking about Prey, the latest entry in the Predator franchise, currently streaming on Hulu! Unfortunately, none of us have any direct experience with Predators... so it's probably best you hear what we have to say about the movie.

E138 - Nope
Full"...to boldly go where no one has... wait. What's that?! NOPE!" Though delayed by a freak solar wind storm, the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood has slid back into your relative orbital trajectory! We had something of a scare during the storm, so we're going to be sampling something that gives you terrans a scare: the new movie from Jordan Peele, Nope. We're happy to have Jenna back on the crew, along with recurring guest Stu Burns! Consider this your Spoiler warning tho, because we're going to be talking about plot points in the movie.

E137 - Magic: The Gathering
Full...or how to lose your friends for only all of your money. Bad news, everyone. During one of their planetary expeditions the entire crew of the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood has come down with a really bad case of Collectible Cardgame-itis. The specific strain is Magic: The Gathering, or M:tG for short. Everyone's doing well, and learning how to handle their new mental compulsions (casting spells, buying sleeves, wondering what the hell that new mechanic is, attacking, blocking, and, of course, losing to the person who spent the most money on their deck). If you've never heard of this disease before, check the episode out! We'd love to infect some new... uhhh, create some new players! If you're already infected / playing, also give us a listen and go back in time to when you were a noob too!

E136 - Dungeons and Dragons (2000)
Full"I cast Magic Missile!" Greetings from the bridge of the USS Galactic Driftwood! There was a lot of entertainment news coming out this week, including a trailer for the new Dungeons and Dragons movie: Honor Among Thieves. In honor of the new movie coming out, we decided to go back 22 years to the first Dungeons and Dragons movie and ... wow. There's some speculation about why aliens haven't contacted earth yet, but I'll go ahead and spoil it for you: it's this movie. So, join us as we talk about a real stinker of a movie and all the ways it ISN'T like D&D.

E135 - One Cut of the Dead
FullWhen hell is full... you know that the crew of the Galactic Driftwood will be back to watch everything from a safe distance. That distance being orbit. Thankfully, hell still has room left and you can book your vacation now! In the meantime, we'll be talking about a film one of our friends and frequent guests (almost a host himself) Stu Burns turned us onto, One Cut of the Dead (Amazon Instant Video). This is a unique film that you're definitely going to have to watch for yourself, and stick with until the end. Trust me. Or, listen to this week's episode where Stu joins another frequent guest and expert in horror films, Benito Garcia (of GoRPGs fame) where we talk about this movie and hopefully don't spoil too much! Still, spoiler warning.

E134 - Inner Worlds
FullInner Worlds are colliding this week on Galactic Driftwood as we interview the writer, producer, and actor Katie Otten, and fellow actor Tim Mantil, from the new web series Inner Worlds. Inner Worlds is a story about a group of characters that are starting a Dungeons & Dragons campaign together but, unlike the majority of D&D series out on the Internet where people just record themselves playing their characters in a game, this is a story about a group of players themselves and how playing the game affects their lives and relationships in little ways and ultimately changes them as people over time. Come and listen to the creatives involved discuss their work on the project and how they are bringing this story to life!

E133 - Herogasm

There’s a lot to discuss, so get a firm grip on your towel and prepare for a super discussion on some of the top revelations and most over-the-top moments from this season. The crew also discusses the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and a deep dive into episode 9 “All Those Who Wander” and parallels in the episode to the first Alien movie and share some comedic memes related to Pike’s Peak.

E132 - We're #33!!
FullWe will, we will, rock you! The crew of the Galactic Driftwood was honored this week to find out one of your planets ranking systems has placed our broadcasts in "The Top 50 Fiction Podcasts!" We understand your planet uses many ranking systems for various things, but we're happy to be recognized by your primitive internet. While we mention it, that's not what we're talking about this week! This week we're going to be talking about the end of Season 4 of Stranger Things! We learn things about Vecna! Murray can do kung fu! Hopper is an international man of adventure! Find out more on this week's Galactic Driftwood Podcast!Check out the 50 best fiction podcasts list here: https://blog.feedspot.com/fiction_podcasts/

E131 - Fragile Fans
FullJust let me enjoy my space-wizards with their pew-pew swords. Here on the good ship Galactic Driftwood, we take notice when things start to go awry on our home world. This week, we'll be talking about the sad trend of attacking actors and shows on social media for being "too woke" or whatever people are complaining about. So, I guess consider this a warning, if you think that a lesbian couple in a Pixar movie is "controversial" this episode probably isn't for you.

E130: Fresh
Full"You saved the breast for last!" The crew of the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood is entering your local orbit again and this time we're sampling some of your finest human mea... I mean your finest horror movies. Oh, who are we fooling. This week we're setting our replicators to "long pork" and reviewing Fresh, a horror movie currently streaming on Hulu. If you haven't guessed from my many hints, this movie involves eating people, so you've been warned. And if you don't want to spoil your food (or your movie) you might want to head over and check it out. Either way, you should tune into the show this week and leave us a comment about who... I mean what your favorite food is.

E129 - Strange New Love and Thunder
Full"... to explore Strange New Worlds, new life, and new civilizations..." It's finally time to talk about something that the crew of the Galactic Driftwood has been looking forward to for quite a bit: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It's no secret we've got some fans of the original series on the ship so this return to "classic" Star Trek has been something that a bunch of people have been excited for. If you're not into Star Trek, don't worry, we've got some other nerdy content to cover, including Thor: Love and Thunder! Leave us a comment and let us know what you're looking forward to seeing and why!

E128 - New Show Buffet
Full“Fear is the path to the dark side … fear leads to anger … anger leads to hate … hate leads to suffering.” - Yoda. Lately, the crew of the Galactic Driftwood has been a little overworked. Your planet is producing too much nerdy entertainment for every member of the crew to review. This week, on the Galactic Driftwood Podcast, we'll be selling each other on the different shows that we're watching and will probably do a full episode on when more member can get caught up. This week, we're again sampling trailers that we've found on the internet and talking about the upcoming projects. Leave us a comment and let us know if there's something we missed and should have our eyes o

E124 - Picard Season 2
FullTea. Earl Grey. Hot. Greetings from the bridge of the U.S.S. Galactic Driftwood. Most of the crew was out on away missions this week so we're a bit short staffed. Still, we had enough people around to talk about the end of the second season of Picard (Paramount+). We were also going to talk about the first episode of Strange New Worlds, but there was just so much to talk about with the end of this season. Be warned! Resistance is futile. Your cultural and techno... oops. Uhhh... spoilers ahea

E122 - The Stream Wars
FullThis week on Galactic Driftwood we ask the question, "How much can you actually eat?" when every restaurant is an all-you-can-eat buffet? Well, we don't actually ask that exact question but dance around it. We've talked before about how the proliferation of streaming services impacts us, but now the grand-daddy of streaming, Netflix is having some troubles so it bears talking about again. Join us for a discussion on what we're watching, what services we have and what we might toss away. Warning, Seth's audio levels are a little high at the start of the episode. If you listen with headphones, be aware.
