Episode #350: If you Know the Way Broadly, You Will See it in All Things

When I launched this show I remember looking at other podcasts that had published over 300 hundred episodes and thinking that was truly insane….and here we are 3 and a half years later with 350 episodes. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening.  In this installment of Fast Fix Friday, we unpack Japanese swordsman and philosopher, Miyamoto Musashi's famous maxim, "if you know the way broadly, you will see it in all things". --- Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #349: From African Royalty to the Bronx with Remi Adeleke

Remi Adeleke is many things, former royalty, an ex-Navy Seal, an author, entrepreneur and producer. But most of all, he’s a symbol of perseverance. Having gone from Nigerian opulence at the age of five to drug-dealing on the streets of the Bronx as a teenager, Remi knows a thing or two about tough times, and how to overcome them with nothing but sheer tenacity and hard work.  Remi is the author of Transformed: A Navy SEAL's Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds; the title a play on words on his most recent acting credit in Transformers.  Expect to take lots out of this conversation, including: 1 - Remi’s fascinating story of going from rock star to rock bottom and back again 2 - Why it’s often darkest before the dawn; and 3 - Why if you know the way broadly, you will see it in everything.  We also geek out on early 90s hip-hop wars and the Eddie Murphy classic, Coming To America. But this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what we explored in this conversation, so strap yourself in for an hour with the one and only, Remi Adeleke.  Topics Discussed: Losing his father and the throne at the age of 5 Growing up in the Bronx Running scams and dealing drugs as a teenager Starting his first record label The East-West hip-hop wars of the early 90s The crack epidemic of the late 80s / early 90s Hitting rock bottom Joining the Navy Making it as a Navy Seal Hell Week The benefit of having people believe in you What Remi learned about himself in the Navy What leadership means to Remi How to get the best out of your people The challenges of becoming an author and writing his first book Becoming a Hollywood actor Why what stands in the way becomes the way How to deal with and overcome adversity If you know the way broadly, you will see it in everything Remi’s morning routine Show Notes: 1: Get the book: https://amzn.to/2J8Dnaw 2: Instagram: @remiadeleke 3: Twitter: @remiadeleke 4: LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/remi-adeleke-56900075/  5: Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/pg/Remi-Adeleke-129399157227652/ ------ Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #348: What Cobra Kai Teaches Us About Empathy

Self-awareness is a hot topic nowadays. You can hardly open a business or psychology book without coming across numerous mentions of emotional intelligence, EQ or self-awareness. The theory of objective self-awareness goes back to 1972, when it was published by Shelley Duval and Robert Wicklund. Daniel Goleman’s definition of self-awareness, immortalized in his best-selling book Emotional Intelligence, simply puts it down to “knowing one’s internal states, preference, resources, and intuitions.” I’ve written previously that we probably shouldn’t trust our intuitions, because they are a byproduct of evolutionary programming, genetics, fetal conditions, infancy and upbringing, past experience, microbiome activity and our current environment. Given this, there is immense value in being self-aware. Knowing that a feeling in our gut willing us not to do something we really need to — like make an important presentation in front of a large audience — is really just evolutionary programming which is trying to mitigate our chances of being ostracised from our tribe so that we can survive. Perhaps that made sense thousands of years ago — when we relied upon our tribes for survival — but no so much today. With self-awareness, we are better able to navigate the world without always falling victim to involuntary reactions that serve to sabotage us, rather than serve us. ------ Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #347: Don't Defer Your War

Niccolo Machiavelli’s ‘The Prince’, written in the early 16th Century whilst living in exile, was a gift to Lorenzo Medici — defacto ruler of the Florentine republic — arguably as a means to earn his place in society as a statesman again. The Prince is to this day considered one of the earliest works of modern philosophy, and indeed of modern political philosophy, and is the book that spawned the use of the term Machiavellian to refer to cunning and unscrupulous, especially in politics. However, the book, which only numbers some 120 pages, is full of lessons that one can apply in leadership roles, in business and more broadly, in life. This installment of Fast Fix Friday unpacks one such lesson. ------ Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #346: The Introverted Founder

When most people think of a successful entrepreneur, typically they think of a charismatic, outgoing, and brilliant leader; Jobs, Bezos or the flamboyant Richard Branson might come to mind. Rarely is introversion conflated with entrepreneurial success. This is because society has a cultural bias towards extroverts, according to Susan Cain, and also because an entrepreneur must interact and influence numerous people — their team, their customers, their partners, and the media. Having said that, there are several significant advantages that introverted founders — let’s call them intropreneurs — have over their extroverted peers. ------ Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #345: Writing and Bitcoin Billionaires with Ben Mezrich

With a writing career spanning 19 years, Mezrich has authored twenty books, with a combined printing of over 4 million copies, including the wildly successful Bringing Down the House, which spent sixty-three weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List, and sold over 2 million copies in fifteen languages and was adapted into the #1 Box Office movie 21. His book, The Accidental Billionaires was adapted into the movie The Social Network which was #1 at the box office, won Golden Globes for best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best score, and was nominated for 8 Oscars, winning 3 including Best Adapted Screenplay. Mezrich and Aaron Sorkin shared a prestigious Scripter Award for Best Adapted Screenplay as well. Ben Mezrich cracked the Hollywood Reporter’s annual hot list: Hollywood’s 25 Most Powerful Authors. This power list of authors touted to be “the industry’s most sought-after word nerds” is based on stats like Mezrich’s multiple movie deals in production such as Woolly, Seven Wonders, Once Upon a Time in Russia, and The 37th Parallel. Ben’s newest book Bitcoin Billionaires chronicles the second act of wonder twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss as they claw their way through Silicon Valley and come out on top as the first bitcoin billionaires after an unlikely-to-win battle with the omnipotent Empire–Facebook. This was a wide-reaching conversation with Ben, and we explored: Ben’s ascendancy to the top of the writing game, and numerous lessons learned along the way that anybody aspiring to great heights can learn from His new book Bitcoin Billionaires, in which we unpacked who Mark Zuckerberg and the Winklevoss Twins really are; and We talk about crptocurrency more broadly, and the role that tech companies play in our lives today  Ben rattled off countless value bombs in this conversation, so if you’re sitting down, grab a pad and pen, take some notes, and please enjoy, my conversation with the one and only, Ben Mezrich.  Topics Discussed: Ben’s upbringing How Ben got his start in writing Influences on Ben’s writing Originality, and where it comes from How Ben wrote 9 books during college, none of which were very good On having several published books perform poorly before gaining success with Bringing Down the House On developing a healthy relationship with rejection The role of luck and serendipity Writing to keep people’s attention in an age of attention deficit Bringing Down the House Accidental Billionaires Bitcoin Billionaires The more at bats you have, the more home runs you hit Early exchanges with Eduardo Savarin and an eventual restraining order On playing the long game, and maintaining energy and enthusiasm for work Tackling a blank page, and overcoming writer’s block How Ben chooses his projects How Ben gets into the flow state What makes a good story Introversion, and playing a role Who Mark Zuckerberg really is Who the Vinklewoss twins really are Cryptocurrency Big tech companies and our attention Show Notes: Books: amazon.com.au/s?i=stripbooks&rh=p_27%3ABen+Mezrich&ref=dp_byline_sr_book_1 Twitter: www. twitter.com/benmezrich Website: benmezrich.com This episode was brought to you by Blinkist - get your free 7-day trial at www.blinkist.com/futuresquared ------ Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #344: Why and How to Train for Adversity

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” — Calvin Coolidge, 30th US President The spirit of Coolidge’s quote has been echoed time and time again by high performers across many domains on my podcast, whether it was Robert Greene, Michael Shermer, Ryan Serhant, or Georges St Pierre; they all say that resilience is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, factor underpinning success. This is why venture capitalists invest in people first. Veteran Israeli VC Yossi Vardi, who has exited 30 of 86 investments, told CNBC that when he started investing he thought ideas were overrated — now he thinks they’re irrelevant. “It’s about execution and the personality of the people, rather than about the idea”. In sports, UFC legend Georges St Pierre told me that “confidence plus skill equals success”. Episode #342: Human Performance Optimisation with Lucas Aoun

From a very young age, Lucas Aoun became interested in the effects of certain foods and herbs on his own physiological and psychological performance. When he was playing soccer, he found himself monitoring his performance very closely and discovered that some supplements were having a drastic effect on reaction times, decision making and ability to the "read" the play. This then sparked a passion to spend copious amounts of his "spare time" to research various ergogenic aids. Having battled with his own health issues, he began to biohack his way out, getting to the root cause of his issues. Through relentless experimentation and research, he has optimised his baseline to consistently perform at a solid level. Today, Lucas’ purpose and mission is to assist and empower people to reach their fullest potential. He does this by being an information portal and teacher, giving others the knowledge that they need to manipulate their own physiology and behaviours.  We settled in for a wide-reaching conversation in which we ventured down many a rabbit hole, including: Naturopathy v western medicine Nootropics and cognitive enhancers The gut-brain connection Sleep Dopamine enhancement; and… Why men should ice their gonads. With that, please give it up for an up and coming star in the space of human performance optimisation, Lucas Aoun. Episode #343: Can an Employee be an Entrepreneur?

I recently concluded an intense but rewarding podcast tour in support of my now newish book, Employee to Entrepreneur. Having appeared on over 50 podcasts, I thought I had been asked just about everything on the topic of making the aforementioned leap. That was until I spoke with Erik Fisher of the Beyond the To Do List podcast. Erik took a different approach and asked me whether or not an employee can be an entrepreneur. I rattled off some initial thoughts that came to mind, but the first thing that comes to mind isn’t always the best, so I continued to ponder the question after the interview. --- Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #339: Trillion Dollar Coach - Lessons from the Book

Trillion Dollar Coach: The Leadership Playbook of Silicon Valley’s Bill Campbell was an absolutely gripping read about a legendary coach and business executive, whose mentoring of the likes of Steve Jobs, Larry Page, Eric Schmidt, and Jeff Bezos, amongst other tech luminaries, played a major role in the success of their companies. While Bill was a private person — he passed away in 2016 — who instead preferred to shine the spotlight on the entrepreneurs and executives he worked with, three of his mentees, Eric Schmidt, Jonathan Rosenberg and Alan Eagle, decided that his invaluable teachings needed to be shared far and wide, in order to have the biggest impact that they possibly could; so they captured his wisdom in this easily digestible 191-page book (a welcome reprieve after having previously ground through a series of 400–600 page books). Somewhat surprisingly, Bill took no cash, no stock…and no shit, and until I picked this book up, I didn’t realize people like Bill existed. The book was packed with value bombs and what follows are some excerpts from the book, and my own notes, which I thought I’d publish to, again, amplify the reach of Bill’s teachings. --- --- Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Andrew Tarvin is obsessed with efficiency. In fact, that's why he goes by Drew Tarvin, it's more efficient. As the world's first humor engineer, he teaches people how to get better results while having more fun. Combining his background as a project manager at Procter & Gamble with his experience as a stand-up comedian, he reverse-engineers the skill of humor in a way that is practical, actionable, and gets results in the workplace.   Through his company, Humor That Works, Dew has worked with more than 35,000 people at over 250 organizations, including Microsoft, the FBI, and the International Association of Canine Professionals. He is the bestselling author of three books, including Humor That Works: The Missing Skill for Success and Happiness at Work. Episode #332: What I Learned From Trying Standup Comedy

Try one new thing a month. This has been my mantra for several years now, and it has seen me try all manner of things, from rock-climbing and surfing to a barista course and learning the art of whisky making, to jumping out of planes and trying hip-hop yoga. I’ve found that trying new things to get out of your comfort zone helps keep your ego in check, strengthens your relationship with adversity, and above all, increases your appreciation of life. In retrospect, it’s not the comfortable times that we remember, the times we find ourselves sitting on the couch watching Netflix. No, we remember doing things that were marred by friction; we remember the uncomfortable — the long, painful hike, getting wiped out by a huge wave, or giving a talk in front of 500 people for the first time. Greatness is reserved for people who are comfortable with adversity, so the more comfortable you can get being uncomfortable, the more likely you will be to take the steps required towards said greatness. --- Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack   Hosted on Acast. Episode #331: Schedule time for Play.

How often have you caught yourself uttering these words? If you really enjoy what you do, and are aligned with its purpose, you actually look forward to getting stuck into things on a Monday morning and might lament that "there aren't enough hours in the day". And while loving what you do and deriving positive energy from it is a great place to be, carving out ample time for rest and play is fundamental to your sustaining your efforts in the office or wherever you happen to get sh*t done. Episode #329: The Uncensored History of SIlicon Valley with Adam Fisher

Adam Fisher grew up in Silicon Valley playing Atari, programming computers, and reading science fiction. He still lives in the Bay Area but now spends his time thinking about the future, tracing it's origins, and writing about it – for Wired, MIT Technology Review, and The New York Times Sunday Magazine. Valley of Genius is his first book A candid, colorful, and comprehensive oral history that reveals the secrets of Silicon Valley -- from the origins of Apple and Atari to the present day clashes of Google and Facebook, and all the start-ups and disruptions that happened along the way. So how did this omnipotent and ever-morphing place come to be? It was not by planning. It was, like many an empire before it, part luck, part timing, and part ambition. And part pure, unbridled genius… We explored a number of areas in this conversation, including: The origins of Silicon Valley and the influential role of Doug Englebart and the US Government Noel Bushnell and Atari The infamous XEROX PARC story What cities around the world can learn from SIlicon Valley in their own attempts to recreate the magic; and In an era where people are finally pushing back against big tech, and the economic tide is turning towards China and Asia, what lies in store for the Valley going forward It took us a little while to warm up in this conversation, but once we did, around the 20 minute mark, we unpacked some awesome insights on not only Silicon Valley, but on what makes a thriving ecosystem, anywhere. With that, I bring you my conversation with the one and only, Adam Fisher. Topics Discussed: What it took to cobble together a fluid conversational narrative from over 200 interviews The origins of Silicon Valley Government and DARPA Doug Englebart Atari and Noel Bushnell Kevin Kelly and Wired Magazine Apple, Steve Jobs and XEROC PARC Netscape The Startup Culture of the Valley Changing Tides and China The decentralisation of Silicon Valley culture and activity The Future of Silicon Valley  Show Notes: Twiter: @adamcfisher Get the book: www.valleyofgenius.com Amazon: Add amazon affiliate link --- Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack   Hosted on Acast. Episode #328: Stop Letting Push Notifications Ruin Your Productivity

Since our prehistoric ancestors used stone tools to start fires and hunt for prey, technology has made us more efficient and effective at what we do. It has brought us convenience, improved communication, and — relatively speaking — long and comfortable lives. However, any good thing taken to the extreme becomes bad. Aristotle knew this, proposing that to achieve happiness and success, people should cultivate virtues at intermediate levels between deficiencies and excesses. Sleep is good for you. Sleeping for 16 hours, not so much. The Buddha too was a proponent of “the middle path.” In the same way, technology usage left unchecked can also have a devastating effect on our productivity and well-being. --- HBR article: https://hbr.org/2019/03/stop-letting-push-notifications-ruin-your-productivity  Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/   GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack     Hosted on Acast. Episode #327: Beware of Digital Agencies Selling Innovation

Welcome back to Future Squared for yet another installment of Fast Fix Friday, although this one is another not so fast fix edition. In this episode, I aim to shine a light on the deceptive practices being carried out by digital agencies across the globe, and whilst I will be speaking specifically about practices pertaining to serving corporate innovation clients, the same set of practices are affecting young startups and entrepreneurs everywhere. I feel it my obligation, as somebody who works in the space of innovation and entrepreneurship, to ring the warning bell. If it means that one less person, or one less organisation, ends up not spending tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars on inferior applications that don’t serve to move the needle an inch forward, and in fact go on to compromise the individual or organization’s desire to bring something new into the world, then I will consider this a very worthy use of my time. Of course, not all digital agencies are created equal, just like not all innovation consultants, are created equal. There is good and bad in every industry, but having seen first hand through my work on too many times to count, digital agencies over-charging and under-delivering, I couldn’t sit idly by any longer. To make my point, I first need to take you back to the mid 19th Century to a rural town in the Australian State of Victoria by the name of Ballarat. --- Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack   Hosted on Acast. We touched on many a topic in this conversation, including: 1 - How Comstock went about shifting the culture from seeking perfection before releasing anything to the public to one that embraced the minimum viable product 2 - Roadblocks she faced in rolling out the Fastworks program and the leans startup methodology across GE insofar as policy and procedure was concerned and how to overcome this; and 3 - What really happened when she and longtime CEO Jeff Immelt resigned from the company on the back of activist investors pushing for change, and why she thought it happened Topics Discussed: Why change is hard at an organizational and individual level How to get buy-in internally Speaking the same language and translating messages Rolling out the lean startup at GE Why culture and process needs to adapt to support new capabilities Leading indicators versus trailing indicators Roadblocks and lessons learned What really happaned in GE’s executive shake-up Shorttermism and how it can plague innovation at listed companies How a long-term tenure in one organization (27 years in Comstock’s case) doesn’t need to come at the cost of creativity or learning The three buckets of innovation and how GE invested across the three Why marketing is what you do at the beginning, not at the end Why the lean startup can be applied to anything from engine turbines to medical C-arm devices Why short feedback loops are key to learning and moving towards product market fit for new ideas, and how bloated organisational procedures can sabotage this Show Notes: Get the book: https://www.amazon.com/Imagine-Forward-Courage-Creativity-Change-ebook/dp/B078LJW4G4 Web: bethcomstock.info Twitter: @bethcomstock --- Patreon: www.patreon.com/thesteveglaveski Employee to Entrepreneur book: www.employeetoentrepreneur.io Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts  goo.gl/sMnEa0 Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ ‍ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. We explored myriad topics in this episode, including: Why fat isn’t necessarily bad for you and paradoxically, how it can be good for you and what kind of food you should be eating A much more manageable alternative to 3 day-water fasts that has as many, if not more benefit Why cancer may have a lot to do, not just with damaged DNA, but also metabolic dysfunction, and how fasting and a ketogenic diet can help you live a longer, healthier life Joseph picked up a number of my own previously flawed beliefs in this conversation so I’m sure you will learn a thing or two, if not many more, to help you optimise your health and performance.    Our audio connection wasn’t the strongest so the conversation does drop in and out occasionally, but there is so much gold in this episode that I hope you’ll put up with it.                                    Topics Discussed: Joseph’s many books and his early inspiration How our food is making us sick Why (the right kind of) fat is good for you Is cancer a result of damaged DNA or metabolic dysfunction? The role of mitochondria How the Big Food lobby essentially pointed the finger at fat in order to sell more cheap carbs How dangerous documentaries like ‘What The Health’ may force people down an unhealthy line Exercise and fasting - when should you eat, and should you train in a fasted state? Bonus Episode: James McKinney interviews Steve Glaveski on The Startup Story podcast

Whilst I was in LA last month, or Orange County to be precise, I caught up with James McKinney, host of The Startup Story podcast, for a conversation on my transition from employee to entrepreneur. James previously has previously had the likes of the founder of E! Entertainment Larry Namer on his show who sold his company for 10 figures so I had to dig deep to bring it during this conversation. Fortunately, James asked really great questions and the interview has been hands down one of my favorites from my physical and virtual book tour so far, so much so that James was kind enough to let me re-publish it on Future Squared. Episode #312: The Mask and the Shadow

On a recent flight from Melbourne en route to Bangkok for the Innov8rs Conference, I was reading author Robert Greene’s new magnum opus, Laws of Human Nature. I had the honor of speaking with Greene on my podcast Future Squared recently and was struck by something he said during our conversation about the notion of masks and shadows. Greene says that each of us wears a mask in order to gain social acceptance. Episode #307: Fireside Chat with Steve Glaveski and Shay Namdarian

I’ve had a crazy whirlwind week this week with my book, Employee to Entrepreneur: How to Earn Your Freedom and Do Work That Matters, finally dropping, having done book launched events in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, an additional 12 podcast interviews and shortly, I’ll be catching a flight to San Francisco for the US leg of my book tour. Speaking of podcasts, I’ve appeared on quite a few in recent weeks, including Mixergy’s Startup Stories, Becoming Superhuman, No Ego, Productivityist and What You Will Learn. You can find those episodes wherever you get your podcasts and in the show notes to this episode. The book has officially sold out on Amazon, literally less than 24 hours after going on sale, which I will try and take as a good thing. However you can still order your copy online and find it at your local bookstore - and if they haven’t got it in stock, ask them to order it in. Of course, there are many ways you can support the launch, all of which are outlined over at employeetoentrepreneur.io/support Now for today’s episode, which is a recording of a fireside chat with my good friend and colleague, Shay Namdarian, as well as an audience Q&A, at the Melbourne leg of the Employee to Entrepreneur book launch. ---  Show Notes: Support the Book Launch www.employeetoentrepreneur.io/support  Podcast Appearances Startup Stories: https://collectivecamp.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c675fe6ab1a62dc586da0b61d&id=99ff1a93f1&e=366f85aef3 Becoming Superhuman: https://becomingasuperhuman.com/making-the-transition-to-becoming-an-entrepreneur-steve-glaveski/  No Ego: https://collectivecamp.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c675fe6ab1a62dc586da0b61d&id=6b44cde947&e=366f85aef3 Corporate Escapees: https://collectivecamp.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c675fe6ab1a62dc586da0b61d&id=d104a11604&e=366f85aef3 The Power of Bold: https://collectivecamp.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c675fe6ab1a62dc586da0b61d&id=0cdfadf9e8&e=366f85aef3 Grit & Hustle: https://gritandhustle.co/steve-glaveski/  The Hustle & Flowchart Podcast: https://collectivecamp.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c675fe6ab1a62dc586da0b61d&id=915fcb425e&e=366f85aef3 GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack   Hosted on Acast. It's Book Launch Day!

--- It’s book launch day! Today is the day...my brand new book, Employee to Entrepreneur: How to Earn Your Freedom and Do Work That Matters, is out now at bookstores, both physical and digital, all over the world. I’ve been celebrating the launch of the book at events across Australia’s eastern seaboard this week...kicking off in Brisbane on Tuesday night, Melbourne last night and Sydney this evening. Next week, I’ll be in San Francisco and Los Angeles - details for remaining book tour dates can be found at employeetoentrepreneur.io If you’ve been a long-time, or even a short-time, listener of Future Squared, and if you have gotten some value out of listening to this show, then I would absolutely love it if you could take a minute to give back and throw some support behind my book launch. You can help me make the book a success by doing one or more of the following four things: 1 - of course, you could pick up a copy of the book on Amazon and wherever good books are sold 2 - you can leave a review on Amazon 3 - you can share the book on social media; and 4 - you can tell your friends, colleagues and associates about the book If you do one or more of these things, tweet a screenshot to @steveglaveski and you’ll go into the running to win a 2 hour private mentoring session with me.
