LIVE from Chicago it's RAWtalk #125
ELast week we invaded Chicago for a sold out Mobile RAWtalk at Stage 773!!! A big thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket as well as to Squarespace who sponsored this Mobile RAWtalk. Without the support of Squarespace we wouldn’t be able to take RAWtalk on the road. If you have not tried Squarespace I suggest you give it a try. It is what I personally use for JaredPolin.com. To get a FREE 14 day trial please go to Squarespace.com/fro if you decide it’s for you please use code FRO to get 10% OFF your first month or year. If you are a student you can first go to that link followed by Squarespace.com/students and get 50% OFF your first year if you have a .edu address. I have to tell you that this show felt like the funniest show we have done to date. I don’t know if it was the combo of the sold out crowd or it was the one drink I had but it was funny. Enjoy the show. Intro: 00:00:16 Chicago Recap: 00:01:24 Photo News: 00:19:12 Flying Solo: 00:46:34 Outro: 01:50:12

Why did we shoot on ALL Canon's this week? RAWtalk #124
ECan you tell what is different this week? If you are watching the video playback you will see that we are not at the RAWtalk table. The reason being is I have been filming for the last 7 days the next video guide, the FroKnowsPhoto Guide to Video Editing. The crew would leave each night and all the gear would stay in place. The set was set along with the lights and Canon cameras so all we needed to do was turn the cameras on and shoot. Before I jump into telling you about the interview with Todd Wolfe this week I have to tell you we had some slight technical issues. It tuns out for whatever reason the ZOOM gave us a corrupt audio file from that interview. The strange thing is we filmed the interview first before filming the main intro with Stephen. Thankfully that audio was fine but I have to apologize for the camera audio that we used for Todds portion of the show. I guess the silver lining is that fact that you can hear how important quality sound is and why we use the RODE Broadcaster microphones. This weeks show was sponsored by AudioBlocks.com/go/fro and VideoBlocks.com/go/fro . We have been doing a lot of DSLR video coverage since so many people have been venturing into it. AudioBlocks and VideoBlocks are pretty much a must have for content creators and video editors. Todd, Stephen and I have been utilizing their service for the last few years and have recently work out a sponsorship agreement. If you are interested in checking out their service you can sign up for their 7 day trial which does require a credit card. Here is the trick, before the trial ends and they charge you full price for the service cancel it. They will send you an e mail offering it to you for only $99 a year opposed to $79 a month. Enjoy the show and sorry for the poor audio. Intro: 00:00:16 Photo News: 00:11:17 Todd Wolfe Interview / Editing Guide Discussion: 00:51:01 Gear of the Week: 01:16:01

KICKSTARTER FAIL: Apparently it's RAWtalk #123
EWelcome to Episode #123 of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. This week I started off the show with a look back at a video I recorded somewhere around 2008. It showcases me attempting to make a video but failing every which way I tried. The reason I posted the video is to show you that I have not always been this good in front of the camera. And if I can go from that guy sitting there fumbling words with no personality than there should be nothing holding you back. This weeks PLUGGY Mc Plugerson is brought to you by ATOMOS who sent us out the brand spanking new Shogun to sniff test and play with. For those who don’t know about the Shogun it’s pretty much the only way you can currently record 4k footage out of the cameras on the market. For example the Sony A7s can’t even record 4k internally, it needs the Shogun to save that footage. For more information on the Shogun and other Atomos products please click here http://bit.ly/1waSi9t We are off to Chicago for a Mobile RAWtalk curiosity of Squarespace on March 17th. If you would like to pick up a ticket for that show you can do so right here. http://bit.ly/1NyGa7V Stephen graces us with his photo news that brings up the subject of the failed “trigger trap” kickstarted. It’s time to lay the smack down on kickstarted so I guess you could call this a mini rant. Flying Solo this week was filled with a ton of solid questions that I hope you find informative. Finally if you listen to RAWtalk on iTunes could you please leave a review as well as your start ranking? That will help the show grow on iTunes and show up ahead of those other boring podcasts. 00:00:16 - Intro 00:00:45 - RANT: If Jared can do it YOU can do it 00:08:11 - Gear of the Week: Atomos Shogun 00:14:19 - Chicago RAWtalk 00:21:45 - Please Rate RAWtalk on iTunes 00:22:15 - Photo News 00:38:26 - RANT: Jared on Kickstarter 00:56:16 - Flying Solo 00:58:40 - Sutter Kindergarden Flashback 01:37:47 - Wheel of Fro

An interview with a Photographer who has more Sports Illustrated covers than me : RAWtalk 122
EThis week I sat down with former Sports Illustrated staff photographer Al Tielemans. I first met Al when I was 17 or 18 where we shot together in the dugout of Veteran stadium for a Phillies game. I invited Al in because he is one of the best sports photographers of our time and I know he would be able to shed some light on the industry for us all. If there is one thing I took out of this interview it’s a statement that Al made about “practice”. He mentioned during his off days form assignments he would go out and shoot to keep his skills tight. You can not become a better photographer if you don’t get out there and shoot. Do you want to win some of the $200,000 in prizes that RODE is giving away during its second MyRodeReel.com compettion? That’s right the contest is back and this time bigger than ever. In all honesty there is no reason not to at least try and enter this contrast. It is FREE to enter and you never know what will happen, maybe your video is the feather that tickles somebody’s fancy. Be sure to check out MyRodeReel.com for contest rules. http://www.rode.com/?utm_source=FroKnowsPhoto&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=FroKnowsPhoto Stephen hits us with photo news including a discussion about the just announced Nikon D7200. Don’t miss why I have 46 Terabytes of hard drives on the table during this weeks “gear of the week” segment. To check out Al Tielemans website please click here. http://www.altielemans.com/

This is How Much YouTubers Make: RAWtalk 121
EOne of the biggest mysteries on the internet is “How much do YouTubers make?”. Well, I am one of those YouTubers so I share what I know to try and shed some light on this age old question. Be sure to check out the 47:58 mark and find out the answer to the question. The whole reason I bring up YouTubers and how much they make is there was a change of the terms of services for what YouTubers can promote in their videos. This change is going to effect some of the biggest names on YouTube and as of now the new rules are pretty vague. I took a look at these new terms of service to try and decipher what you can and can’t do. Did you see Inspector Dale Cooper aka Stephen Sutters Hedgehog? Isn’t he so cute with he pricklers and cute face? I asked Jaleel King to stop back into the loft to update us on what he has been up to over the past few years and what the next year has in store. If you missed the first time Jaleel was on you can check it out right here on Episode #18 http://froknowsphoto.com/rawtalk-18-bumping-wheelchairs/ PLUG ALERT. If you make videos online than you know how important quality royalty free music is. If you have been looking for a solution I have one in the way of AudioBlocks.com/go/fro which you can get for $99 for one year. Todd has been using them for the last two years and I have been a paying customer since early 2014. Thank you guys for listening week in and week out. 00:00:16 - Intro 00:00:23 - Meet Inspector Dale Cooper! 00:07:40 - Photo News 00:47:58 - How Much Youtubers Make Rant 01:09:04 - Jaleel King Interview 01:26:35 - Gear Of The Week 01:30:48- Wheel Of Fro

The RANT that had to be CUT: RAWtalk Episode #120
EThe plan for this weeks show was to have on a special guest who ended up having to cancel last minute. Of course this tends to happen and is out of all our control when their child is running a fever, it's also totally understandable. Alas the show must go on and it ended up being another fantastic show packed with great photo news, random discussion, DVDA and Flying Solo. This weeks pluggy mc plugerson was brought to you by ATOMOS. The NEW Atomos Showgun has sliced its way into filmmakers bags and soon will land on my doorstep. If you are looking to record 4k video into something THIS IS THE DEVICE that does it. Not only can you record 4k from the Sony A7II but with pretty much all DSLRS you can record full 1080 up to 60 FPS. All I can say is we use the Atomos Ninja Blade as our main center angle recording device. Everyone always asks how do you get longer recording than what the DSLRs allow us to do? The simple answer is get an ATOMOS. Thank you to Atomos for being supportive of our show for the last year+. Please enjoy this weeks show and don't forget subscribe to the podcast on itunes.

The TRUTH about making money on the Internet
ELast month I gave a completely uncensored talk at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus. I spoke to a group of students in a creative thinking and business entrepreneurial class... I told the group we could talk about whatever they want and I would literally tell them anything about me and my business. Naturally how I make money in my business was a big topic during this 1.5 hour talk but there's a lot of great information and the students asked some great questions. This was a completely open and candid discussion and I pulled the curtain back on my business, answering EVERY single question they had. This is the only way I know how to be, completely open and honest. I have nothing to hide and want to share everything I know to help as many people as possible. You need to know there are no secrets to being successful. Sometimes you get lucky but I firmly believe that you make your own luck. I know this is a long video but if you take just one nugget of information and do something with it than it was well worth while. You have nothing to lose, go for it, make it happen. To see the VIDEO please go here. http://froknowsphoto.com/the-truth-about-making-money-on-the-internet/

Is Canon Back in the game? RAWtalk 119
EThe huge news this week centers around Canon releasing not one not two but four new DSLR’s and an Ultra WIDE zoom pro lens. Does this put Canon back in the game or were they ever really out of it? I personally don’t think Canon was anywhere near out of the game. They have the 5D Mark III along with the 1D X as well as a lot of adapted professional lenses. This is what happens in the photo world, Nikon has something new for a while then Canon has something new so on and so forth. So one or the other is always on top for a period of time. As a little side note, at the time of recording we did not have all the official specs. But I chose to discuss the camera after my inside source was able to verify the validity of information that was out there as fact. I tried something new for Flying Solo where I put up a video on Facebook asking for your flying solo questions. It looked like it worked because over 200 questions came in which is more than double what we usually get. I chose 30 of the questions to feature on the show and moved at a pretty brisk pace to make sure I got to them all. This weeks show was sponsored by RODE Microphone. As you know we use the RODE broadcaster Mics both in the loft and on the road. They sound fantastic and I think we have one of the best sounding Podcasts around because of them. Remember if you don’t check out RODE’s site this week our friend Scott over there’s son may grow up to have blonde hair!!!! Scott Kelby UNLEASHED and Uncensored: RAWtalk 118
EScott Kelby is not only one of the biggest names in online education but he has written over 60 books and sold millions of copies over the 15 years. As many of you know I was asked by Scott to come down and be on his show the GRID. While there I took the oppurtunity to sit down and conduct a very candid interview. The interview took place in Scotts office which is part of a brand new facility that Kebly Media has just moved into. This was an unbelivable facility housing studio after studio of recording spaces as well as 91 employees. When I conduct interviews I don’t come up with questions based on what I think people may want to hear, I ask questions based off of what I am most interested in hearing. In the case of this interview with Scott I was most interested in where he started and how he built the business to such a place. There is one part of the interview where he talks about the “moment” that one decision that set the ball rolling to allow him to be sitting where he is right now. And i must tell you I had shivers go down my spine when he told the story. You can hear and see the passion throughout this 40 minute interview. When we finished Scott told me the questions I was asking were not what he was expecting but in a good way. That is what I love to hear after an interview, that the questions were unique and brought out the best stories possible. Enjoy this interview and learn as much as you can from it. The interview starts at 52 min. As always we have Photo News with Stephen along with fantastic discussions leading up to the interview above. Gear of the Week this week was the Sennheiser Lav Packs that were are testing out and probably replacing the Sony’s that have served me well. Don’t forget Wheel of FRO and all the companies who are on it, thank you. This FREE Show is only possible because of the select few sponsors we choose to work with and who choose to work with us. Thank you to RODE, ATOMOS, Squarespace, AllensCamera.com, VideoBlocks and everyone around the Wheel Of FRO. Without them there the show would not look like it looks today. So please take a minute to check out what these sponsors have to offer and thank them for allowing us to create this show. LIVE from USFSP in Florida it's Mobile RAWtalk Episode #117
EComing to you LIVE…. (to tape) from the University of South Florida St. Pete it’s another Mobile RAWtalk. That’s right, we were in Florida for the latest RAWtalk because I was invited onto the GRID by Scott Kelby. A HUGE thank you goes out to Nathan for helping set up everything on the campus and to Sam Hamberg for helping rest the cameras and more during RAWtalk. This weeks Episode is Sponsored by ATOMOS. We used the Atomos Ninja II to record for over an hour and a half without having to rest the camera. That right there is worth the price of admission. You know how you are limited to only 29:59 of record time on most DSLR’s? The way around that is to use an ATOMOS which not only lets you record none stop but gives you an even higher quality video to work with than the camera itself. Atomos has units that fit in the pocket to the latest and greatest the SHOGUN which will record 4K, for more winning!!! For more info please check out Atomos.com There was a RANT, fun with the people in attendance, laughing, crying, earmuffs and who brings their toddler to one of my shows? Stephen has his photo news and we still spun the WHEEL OF FRO. Be sure to follow me on Snapchat at FroKnowsPhoto. Don’t forget to subscribe to the Podcast on iTunes to be the first to get each and every new episode. Enjoy the show.

Your Marketing, Branding and Business Questions CRUSHED: RAWtalk Episode #116
EThis week show takes us back into the LOFT for the second show of the year. I honestly never know what direction the show will go when we hit record but this week took a turn into Business territory that you will not want to miss. Before I dive deeper into the show I want to thank RODE for being this weeks featured sponsor. They just released a new accessory for the SmartLav and + called the SC1. The SC1 is a 20 foot extension cable which will really come in handy when you need to stay behind the camera and monitor audio. Be sure to check out everything RODE right here http://bit.ly/1IYHITB We discussed the killer video Stephen whipped together from CES that left me wanting to watch even more. We outlined why I am going to Florida and where the next mobile RAWtalk is going to be on Tuesday January 20th. If you are on SnapChat be sure to add me as a friend “FroKnowsPhoto”. Flying solo this week has to be one of the most candid discussions I have had to date about business, marketing and branding on a RAWtalk. I let you in on how I advertise on Facebook, what I target, how much I spend and the reasons for doing so. Generally I don’t want the show to go almost two hours but the amount of solid questions this week lead us down that path. In all honesty you don’t have to be a photographer to learn something about business, branding and marketing from this weeks Episode. I spent a good amount of time discussing Audio and Video Blocks a service that I have been paying for for almost two years now. People have been wanting to know where do we get royalty FREE audio and video to use in our videos. The answer is simple we use Audio Blocks and Video Blocks. You can get a 7 day free trial by going here http://audioblocks.com/go/fro for Audio Blocks and Here http://videoblocks.com/go/fro for Video Blocks. Both services go for $79 a month but if you sign up for the FREE trial than cancel your subscription they will send you an e mail with an offer for $99 a year for either service. That’s exactly what I did when I signed up.

LIVE From my Hotel Room in Las Vegas: RAWtalk Episode #115
EWelcome to Episode #115 which so happens to be the very first one of 2015. The reason I went out to Vegas this time was for CES 2015 which is one of the largest tech shows in the world. I figured we are here we might as well set up a mobile RAWtalk and invite some readers. But the question became where would we film it? I thought it would be fun to invite a handful of readers to join us in our hotel room at the Excalibur. I got an e mail from a reader asking me to promote is gofundme campaign because he just had all his gear stolen out of his car. I get these e mails all the time and asked two simple questions. One did you have insurance and two did use lens tag for your gear. The answers to both were not that they are always very careful with their gear. Look, gofundme is not a place for you to basically ask friends, family or strangers to act as your insurance plan. I feel bad for the person for having their gear stolen but they are partly to blame for not having insurance. CES 2015 was packed with a couple hundred thousand people and Stephen and I braved the crowds to bring you guys what we think are the coolest and strangest items from the show. We give you our recap as well as our run in with Kazamm. After Photo News I opened up the hotel room floor to the fro readers in attendance to ask Flying Solo questions. A big thank you to Squarespace who allows for Mobile RAWtalks to actually happen. They foot the bill for the travel and other expenses that surround filming and production. Please help me by checking out Squarespace.com/fro and signing up for a FREE 14 day Trial of the service. Don’t forget to subscribe across the board to be notified of NEW episodes. Please find me on Snapchart at FroKnowsPhoto

This is the LAST RAWtalk....of the year: Episode #114
EIt’s that time of year again, by that time of the year I mean the end of the year. This is officially the last episode of 2014 and I know some of you may be upset but it’s only for a few weeks. This week we have Christmas followed by Stephen going away for the end of the year and than we head to Vegas for CES. We know how much you guys love waking up every Monday to a new RAWtalk but we will be back very soon with new episodes in 2015. Show days can be interesting days depending on which side of the bed I woke up on. I have those mood things, the ones where you can be down or you can be up but on show days the show must go on. I think this week I was a little thrown off by my gmail not working properly which turned out to be an issue with Gmail and not with my e mail which was a relief. Regardless of my mood, once we get into the flow of the show I am ready to go which ever way the news and questions take us. Speaking of Photo News am I wrong with my little rant on the mini Teleprompter kickstarted? I got to fly solo one more time to end 2014 with some challenge questions and others infuriating but that comes with the territory. The NEW Wheel Of FRO got one more SPIN to take us out on a high note with a nice prize as always. What a cool addition to RAWtalk the Wheel Of FRO has become. To finish the year I want to thank each and every one of you who enjoy RAWtalk every week. Wether you watch it on YouTube, your TV, listen to the audio podcast or enjoy it any other way, THANK YOU. Thank you to Stephen for coming on board this year and taking RAWtalk to the level of quaintly it has attained. Thank you to Sutter for taking on a little sidekick ROLL over the last six or so months. And finally thank you to RODE and Atomos for believing in the importance of organic advertising. Having you guys understand the importance of letting me have fun with your plugs makes the readers and listeners more apt to listen to our message. Happy Holidays and have a Happy and Healthy New Years from all of us here at FroKnowsPhoto. By all of us I mean the Stephens and I.

David Bergman gets the ACCESS we all wish for: RAWtalk 113
EHe has shot 13 Sports Illustrated covers, 11 Super Bowls, World Series’s, Presidents and 200 shows in 30 countries with John Bon Jovi. David Bergman has earned the access he receives with amazing photos time and time again. I had the chance to sit with David at the loft to discuss everything from what it’s like to get an SI cover to flying in a private jet as Bon Jovi’s tour photographer. That interview starts at 50:18 second and in my opinion is another fantastic discussion with an amazing photographer. His stories along with his advice are enjoyable and really worth a listen. If you have been waiting to see who WON the Atomos Ninja Star contest you can see the 7 finalists right here. http://froknowsphoto.com/atomos-ninja-star-contest-finalists/ We discus our upcoming Vegas trip and if you are in Vegas and know of a location for a RAWtalk or work for Excalibur please e mail me at jared at froknowsphoto dot com. Stephen hit’s us with the weeks Photo News which you can find starting at 13:34 Finally we did something new this week with the Wheel Of FRO where I selected 12 names and placed them on the smaller wheel. I gave it a spin and the persons name it stopped on got to SPIN the BIG WHEEL!!!! A big thank you goes out to Atomos because without them we wouldn’t be able to record continuously with a DSLR that only lets us shoot 20 minutes at a time. Thank you to RODE, Squarespace, Allens Camera and everyone else who has a spot on the Wheel Of FRO.

RANT Ken Rockwell says "pros only shoot in Pro mode, that's why it's called Pro mode - RAWtalk #112
EWelcome back to another fun filled week of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk where I occasionally curse, scream, sing, rant and talk photography. This week I did not plan on ranting I only planned on sharing a few direct quotes from a certain someones website. Now I know you are asking yourself why do you read that guys site and my answer is because I want to see what he will say next. Now that that’s out of the way what did he say this time? First there was a quote about a camera being free but it costs $1,250 followed by “some people have this idea that pros only shoot in manual exposure mode”. All I can say is skip to 36:48 put your earmuffs on and get ready to be frustrated. This weeks show sponsor was RODE microphone and I featured their Invisilav which honestly will come in handy when I need to put a lav mic under my shirt. The truth of the matter is we currently just use gaff tape to stick the mics to my chest. In reality we should be using the invisilav which we are going to start doing. You will notice I had a little bit of trouble getting the included tape to stick and I have verified that it’s because it’s skin safe. My solution to this is use wig tape or gaff tape and you will be good to go. Stephen brings us the last two weeks in photo news from the new Sony A7 II to the rumor of GoPro manufacturing their own drones. Check out the photo news starting at 08:05 . Don’t forget to subscribe to the Podcast on iTunes or your iPhone to automatically have the new episodes sent right to your phone.

Fro's Favorite Things 2014 Special RAWtalk
ENormally we record RAWtalks on Thursdays but this week it was Thanksgiving so we recorded something a little different on Monday. In honor of the holidays we decided to record a show called "Fro's Favorite Things". The Stephens and I decided to bring in and discuss different low cost items and some higher cost items that help us with our photography. We have everything from small camera phone stands to the updesk and everything in-between. I want to make it perfectly clear that no companies knew beforehand that we were featuring their products. There are no sponsors of this weeks episode. Listed below are all the items we discussed. If one of them interests you simply google what it is to find more information or where to purchase from. For a full list of all the items we discussded in this weeks Episode please follow this link. http://froknowsphoto.com/frosfavoritethings/

The "Secret" to making it as a photographer revealed - RAWtalk 111
EEvery few weeks I ask for Flying Solo questions and this weeks line of them had a recurring theme. The majority of the questions had to do with how do you make it as a photographer. How do you get more Facebook interactions. How do you do better SEO. How do you get more people to want to pay you. No one said photography was going to be easy but there is one surefire way to get people to pay attention and that is to do quality work. Quality work trumps all!!!! If there is one so called Secret Rule to being successful at photography it would be that Quality Work Trumps ALL. Everything starts with quality work. If your work is subpar it will not resonate with people. So no matter how much SEO, Facebook advertising, begging and pleading you do, if your work is not quality you will not get the job. Please do not be scared away by that statement because for the longest time I myself was doing subpar work. The first few years I was shooting no one would hire me not because of my age but because my work was not up to par, yet. Yet is the key word there, it took me a good 8-10 years of shooting to actually start producing “Quality” work. If you thought the jobs would just show up a few months after starting you are mistaken. There are always those few that bust through quickly but for every one of those there are thousands who have to take the long road. One of the questions I posed to you guys is would you like me to put together some sort of guide to help you navigate the business side of photography? Like I said in RAW talk this guide won’t tell you the “secret method to being a success” as I don’t think anything like that exists. But what it will do is give you the tops and tricks I personally use day in and day out to try and make it as a photographer. The FroKnowsPhoto 2014 Holiday Contest and SALE is in FULL SWING and you can take advantage of that right here http://bit.ly/fro2014sale . All t-shirts are on sale for only $11.99 each and each order will come with a Wheel Of FRO Scratch off card for your chance to WIN one of 47 prizes valued at over $7,000. As always we had Photo News, Gear Of the WEEK and the Wheel Of FRO. Thank you to RODE Microphones, ATOMOS, everyone on the Wheel Of FRO and you guys for your support.

EARMUFFS What a FANTASTIC Eye Opening and Inspiring Interview with Amelia Davis RAWtalk Episode #110
ESome of you might know the work of Jim Marshall others may have no idea who Jim was, but I can guarantee you that you all have seen his work knowingly or not. I never got the chance to officially sit and interview Jim before he passed away. But when I ran into Amelia Davis at Photokina I knew the next best thing to an interview with Jim would be to interview Amelia. When Amelia mentioned she would be doing a book signing of “The Haight”, Jim’s latest book, I jumped on the opportunity to set up an interview. What a FANTASTIC interview it was. Amelia was so open and honest and the conversation just flowed. We learned so much about Jim’s past and what made the man tick from someone who was very close to him for more than a decade. Sit back and get ready to laugh, smile and be inspired by the stories that Amelia Davis shares with us. Did you get a chance to see the nude photo Keira Knightley posed for? Well if not I took it upon myself to replicate the photo almost to a t, sans the beard. Find out why she posed nude and why I decided to spoof it. What would you like to see on sale in the FroKnowsPhoto Store for the holidays? If there is something in particular please be sure to let me know via twitter, Facebook or YouTube. Photo News with Stephen is fun as always, get caught up on last weeks photo news this week a whole week after it was actually news. For gear of the week we showcased a slider by a company called Cinevate who make some really killer well thought out and built video products. The show ends with some Wheel Of Fro where I decided to spin it twice and twice it landed on the same thing, oh well. For all the Photo News Stories and more please go to http://FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-110 A big thank you goes out to RODE Microphones, Atomos, Allen’s Camera, Cinevate, all the companies on the Wheel of FRO and you guys for continuing to support the show.

If you didn't change this in your camera yet, you better do it now? RAWtalk Episode #109
EI could not figure out why I did not sleep until my alarm on Sunday and than I realized why. The clocks here in the US and part of Canada were supposed to be changed aka FALL back. That brings up one of the biggest mistakes many photographers make and don’t realize it until weeks or months later. They forget to change the time in their camera and wonder why they are off by an hour. If you haven’t changed your time stop what you are doing and go change it. Have you entered to WIN the Atomos Ninja Star yet? We have been running a contest and you have until the end of this month to get your entry in. You can see the full contest rules right here. http://froknowsphoto.com/atomos-ninja-star-contest/ Right now we have under 10 entires so you have a better shot at winning this if you simply try and don’t wuss out. Stephen and I discuss our trip to NYC for the annual PPE Show. We chose not to shoot any content up there since we already did our show coverage from Photokina in September. We hit you with the weeks Photo News recap followed by FLYING SOLO the one thing that the world can agree on that they like, well maybe. I hope you enjoyed the show. The show would not be possible if it wasn’t for good people like you as well as the shows sponsors who fork over the money to allow us to continue to bring you bigger and better content. Thank you RODE Microphones, Atomos, Allen’s Camera and all the companies on the Wheel Of FRO, we greatly appreciate your help.

Hundreds of solid questions came in and Todd and I take the RAWtalk to answer them in as much detail as possible. Some people may say this is simply a marketing video to bring awareness to the FroKnowsPhoto Guide To DSLR Video, well it is. But I can tell you something, we do not hold back any information in this 1 hour 30 minute video. If someone had a hard hitting question we gave it an equally hard hitting answer with as much information as possible. Even if you are not interested in the new guide I think you will learn something new that you can put into practice today. If you would like to to purchase the FroKnowsPhoto Guide To DSLR Video at a special 50% OFF Launch price please click here http://froknowsphoto.com/dslr-video-guide-2/

RANT ALERT If you're a guest at a wedding LEAVE YOUR CAMERA AT HOME!!! RAWtalk Episode #108
EI will explain the title in just a second but first I want to thank everyone for their condolences on Lil’s passing. We had the funeral on Monday just a few days shy of her 104th birthday. Can you imagine what she saw in her life? From 1910 on she was part of one of the largest technological advances in known human history. May she rest in peace and not be forgotten. Now onto the title of this weeks Episode. I was attending my cousins wedding and a family member had a 5D Mark III with a flash on it sitting front row closest to the center isle. Every time someone walked down the isle they were snapping three or four images. The main photographer was down the isle trying to get the pictures and all I could see was the guests flash every single time. I did not bring a camera to the wedding, it wasn’t my job. There was a photographer who was paid very well to capture the moment and they do not need guests with cameras getting in the way. The moral of the story is if you are not shooting the wedding leave your camera at home and enjoy the event. More on this RANT during the episode. PLUG ALERT PLUG ALERT - RODE is giving away a Stereo VideoMic X or a K2 Tube Microphone and all you need to do is take a two second survey to get entered. Go to rockro.de/survey for your chance to win. You have until Nov 10th to get entered. Stephen brings us his news stories of the week and Sutter decided to shave his hipster head for some reason. Gear of the week is pretty ICEY and cold and FLYING SOLO get’s cranking with solid questions. Thank you to Atomos for their killer NINJA that we use on our center camera. Thank you RODE for the Broadcaster Microphones. Thank you to everyone on the Wheel of FRO and thank you to YOU GUYS.

RAWtalk Episode #107 - LIVE From Allen's Nikon-A-Palooza
EWe took RAWtalk Mobile this week to the parking lot and tent of Allen’s Nikon-A-Palooza. This is the second year of the event and this year we had an even larger turn out than last year. We had people drive in from as far away as 10 hours and as close as 2 minutes. Nikon was there to show off any gear you wanted to play with as well as doing FREE sensor cleanings. Allen gave away a Nikon D7100, there were other prizes and really sweet in store offers. But we all thought it would be great if we extended the special offers from the event for ONE DAY ONLY, Monday October 27th from 9:30am - 6pm EST you can get the deals listed below if you call 215-547-2841. You can get 20% OFF select Tripods and 20% OFF Camera Bags. Also online at AllensCamera.com you will get 5% OFF all used equipment. Remember this is US Only and will be live from 9:30am EST to 6pm. Please call the store for more details. This was our first time filming a show outside and the sun definitely gave us some exposure issues so please excuse those if you see them. Stephen took his photo news segment mobile to bring us the latest information on what is new in the world of Photo News. We had some extra special guest stop by this week. There was Allen, DigiRichie, Pasqual, Stephen Sutter and my dad who took over a microphone for a little while and a lot more. The show was wrapped up with a killer LIVE Flying Solo portion as well as the WHEEL OF FRO. You can not miss the wheel of FRO this week, you have to see where it lands. A big thank you to Allen’s Camera and Nikon for sponsoring the event. Rode Microphones for the Broadcasters and arms we use. Atomos for the Ninja we use when we are in the studio. And finally F and V lighting for supplying the lights for Mobile RAWtalk, LED Pannels.

RAWtalk Episode #106: An interview with the first Photographer I ever looked up to, Bruce Bennett
EMy first official photography class was in 1997 when I was in 10th grade. I recall a rack of photography magazines being near the teachers desk and one magazine always caught my attention. On the cover was this Einstein looking guy holding a really cool “white” lens standing on the ice in front of the net. The photographers name was Bruce Bennett and he has the destination of being the first photographer I ever looked up to. I consider him to the most recognizable photographer in NHL history. There wasn’t a week that went by where I read and re read the article in “Unique Photo” magazine where Bruce talked about being a hockey photographer. From that point on I knew I wanted to be a Hockey Photographer and that Bruce was the one I wanted to emulate. Well this week I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Mr. Bruce Bennett. The interview takes place on the Philadelphia Flyers bench at the Wells Fargo Center before the opening night festivities. This interview ranks up there with one of my favorite to this point. Bruce and I share a love for photography and hockey and you will hear us tossing around random hockey knowledge and facts. The interview starts at 32:23 Do you know what Kerplunk is? If you don’t we start off the show with a quick game of Kerplunk. What other vintage games do you recall playing when you were a kid? Stephen brings us all the photo news stories of the week that you just might find interesting. Stories include 2 million dollars worth of camera gear was stolen, a video time lapse with stacked video that will blow your mind, the donut selife is introduced and much much more. Be sure to check the site for all the photo news stories and more. We take a quick look at a new photo book that was just released by Danny Clinch called, Danny Clinch. What a solid collection of images. If you love music or love candid images for that matter this book is going to give you a thrill. I am working on setting up an interview with Danny so if you can tweet at him and say you would like to see him on FroKnowsPhoto RAW talk that would be appreciated. @danny_climch We wrapped up the show with Gear of the week and the Wheel Of Fro!!!! A big thank you goes out to Rode Microphone, Atomos, Allen’s Camera, all the companies on the Wheel Of Fro and you guys.

Episode #105 - RAWtalk Episode #105: What To Do When Your PHOTO GOES VIRAL, REAL Bleeping VIRAL
EI have never had a photo go "VIRAL" but this weeks guest Amanda Brewer who isn’t a professional photographer now has that experience. As you know I am very careful to call things viral but when your photo becomes the most “liked” photo ever for GoPro’s Photo Of The Day it earned that moniker. Tune in at 48 Minutes to hear Amanda explain how her photo went bonkers. On top of everything else by submitting an image to GoPro for photo of the day you are giving them usage rights to your image for EVER, my thoughts on the episode. Stephen gets his photo news on with some stories about Leica, Android Apps, Drones being shot down and more. Will you be joining us for Allens Nikon-A-Palooza on Saturday October 18th, I certainly hope so. We are doing a LIVE RAWtalk and Allen will be giving away a Nikon DSLR for FREE. The address is 4401 New Falls Road Levittown PA. I have never heard the term 8 to 2’er but after a fro reading high school student sent in a question I know I don’t like it. Find out what his question was and who I ended up yelling at. For more information and all the photo stories please go to FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-105

That is the BIGGEST glASS I have ever seen - RAWtalk Episode #104
ENo only is this week episodes jammed packed with stories, photo news, flying solo, a spinning wheel and some singing, it also has some of the biggest pieces of GLASS that I have ever seen. Rode hit’s us with a new microphone that is made of this new space aged material called Alu-mini-um, totally mind blowing…. We dive into wether or not the new GoPro’s are worthy of the price tag. The Atomos contest get’s a correction being that there are only 30 days in November. If you bought a D750 you must return if right away because of Wifi Gate, people can steal your images without you even knowing. But don’t return it just yet, I have a simple solution for that. What type of salesman would I have been if I didn’t sell cameras years ago? My thoughts on alternative schools such as Montessori school and much much more. Someone gets to spin the Wheel of FRO is it you? Thank you for listening to this weeks Episode. Please join us for the next Mobile RAWtalk on Saturday October 18th at Allen’s Camera in Levittown Pa.

RAWtalk #103 - Tindering my way through Europe and ATOMOS Ninja Star Giveaway
EWE ARE BACK and what a trip we had. First we made our way to Poland where we stayed in Warsaw followed by Krakow before flying to Germany for Photokina 2014. Poland was a personal trip where we toured the Warsaw Ghettos and got educated on so many different aspects of WWII. We also used the time in Warsaw to do a hands on with the Nikon D810. There were so many people and street performers out that it made for great street photography. As another part to the personal journey we went and toured Auschwitz which was a profound experience. My goal was not to take pictures but the few images I did capture really told a very somber story. Next up was Krakow for the evening where the TINDER scene was off the hook. I have never seen so many good looking girls as I swiped right and rarely left. And for the record I did not meet any of them thank you very much. We did run into one pretty scary issue on our way to Germany. Our flight from Krakow to Germany was CANCELED at the last min leaving us stranded for 8 hours in Krakow. But it also lead to one of the most stressful and funny stories of the entire trip. Hear that story at 41:11 to laugh your ass off. Photokina 2014 – Photokina happens ever two years and this year we were able to make the trip thanks to BlackRapid. Without BlackRapid being the sponsor we probably would not have been able to bring you the coverage that we were able to. My goal with the show was to bring you one solid piece of content opposed to chopping it up into 20 videos. Our show recap can be seen below in one consumable video, enjoy.

SPECIAL EDITION RAWtalk - The 100 Episodes Recap Show
E100 Episodes of anything is a pretty monumental feat. Now I know not everyone has heard the early days of RAWtalk, the days when I used to throw poker chips across the table to award points for solid comments or statements. That honestly did not last to long because I always forgot to give them out until the very end. Fro reader Doug Peters asked if he could compile episodes 1-100 with funny moments, solid tips and all around RAWness. I said sure, go for it. The results are two hours of a compilation of moments from the first 100 episodes of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. I hope you enjoy the look back and don’t forget you can download each episode of RAWtalk as an Mp3 going all the way back to Episode #001. The Video portion did not start until somewhere around Episode #17 where we used one gopro angle. You will also notice how the audio quality of the show continued to get better and better when Stephen Eckert joined the team. I have to say a HUGE than you to him for taking the initiative to take this show to places I could not have taken it on my own. Thank you to everyone out there who has listened, comments, submitted questions or just enjoyed!!!

RAWtalk Episode #102 - The TRUE Reason I Went With Nikon Is Revealed
EI sat down with my very first photography mentor (Matt Ciao) to take a walk down memory lane. He does not hold back when he talks about how annoying I was when I was 15. We also talk about what was given to us by one of our teachers in college that goes in your wallet next to the condom. But the big reveal came when Matt divulged the reason behind me deciding to purchase my very first Nikon SLR. Was Stephens’s sister’s wedding photographer a bust or did he end up kicking ass? If you recall episode #100, Stephen’s sister found out two weeks before her wedding that the photographer she hired would no longer be shooting her big day. Instead, he was sending someone else she had never met or seen their work. What in the world did RODE send us this time around. Hint, it does not require power and can be yours for 50% OFF with code “ISHOOTRAW”. I first thought I was going to hate what they sent me but it turns out that it was pretty cool. There is not a lot better than giving surprise gifts to people. Stephen got to unwrap his very special gift live on the show, find out what it is. Stephen hits us with a solid select of photo news stories. From Cannon pro lens price drops, to a photographer who has a 0.02% success rate on a project to how one guy barely saved his DJI Phantom from taking a swim in the lake. All of this and more can be heard or seen on this weeks FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. Oh yea, we find out what and who is DigiRichie.

RAWtalk Ep. 101 Photography Podcast: The No Singing No Interruption Episode (may include singing and interruptions)
EI love when I ask for solid questions and you guys deliver them for the flying solo potion of the show!!!! We are prepping to hit head to Poland And Germany thanks to BlackRapid who has sponsored the trip. I hope to be announcing some meet ups in Poland and Germany shortly. We probably won’t be doing mobile RAWtalks from those ares just yet but a fun hangout will be just as fun. Stephens Photo News like always is filled with ZERO disruptions and zero singing. If you believe that I have a bride I would like to sell you. We wrap up this weeks show with solid solid flying solo questions as well as Top 5’s that you guys submitted. Keep an eye out for when I request the flying solo questions come in. Thanks to RODE Microphones, Atomos, AllensCamera.com and all the sponsors on the Wheel Of Fro!!!!

RAWtalk Episode 100 - We Have Reached a MILESTONE
EWe have made it to the 100th Episode of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. What started as an idea to have a roundtable discussion each week has morphed a few times to get to where it stands today. When it started we did not record video, just audio. But something always told me that audio alone is not enough, we needed to add video. When I started to record video it was done with a static GoPro camera with the audio running into it. The quality was fine but nothing over the top. I wanted better audio, better video and a show that stood out above the other photography podcasts. The missing piece to the puzzle was Stephen Eckert. I knew Stephen had audio skills, so i asked him to help me out with recording each week. Right away he said I should add more camera angles and that he would edit them. Talk about grabbing the balls by the horns, he took initiative. Quickly we added Stephens Photo News where he started at the table then went back off to the side to run the audio. But more and more I would toss questions back his way and he ended up at the table the entire show. And now he is officially part of the show. What Stephen did was make himself indispensable to the show. He didn’t wait for me to give him anything, he simply showed that without him the show wouldn’t be as good. And that’s the reason he is now full time with me. Last but not least I have to thank all of you for sticking with the show. I know it must have been tough at the beginning while I discovered what the show could have been but your questions and support certainly helped. Now together we have something that is real, fun, enjoyable, informative and sometimes over the top. Thank You!!!! PS. I can not forget to thank RODE Microphones for their continued support of the show. We use the RODE Broadcaster microphones each and every week. Atomos, what can I say, they allow us to record our main angle continuously without having to reset the cameras every 20 minutes. We LOVE these little guys and know you will too if you record video. AllensCamera.com: Without your support from day one I would not have been able to get as far as I have. And finally everyone on the Wheel Of Fro for buying into how much fun this little game could be.

RAWtalk Episode #098 - You Have To Put Yourself Into Situations To Be Successful
EDo you know how important it is to just put yourself into situations? Now I am not talking about putting yourself into situations that you know you shouldn’t be. I am talking about putting yourself into situations to be successful. You never know who you are going to meet or the opportunities that may arise when you get out of the house. This happened to me recently when I decided last minute to purchase a ticket for the Billy Joel concert. I had no expectations that I would come out of it with possibly shooting a show for Billy in the future. Well, that’s exactly what happened and I discuss it in more detail during this weeks episode. The moral of the story is put yourself in situations where you can be successful, you never know what will come out of it. If you are a Polish or German fan we have some good news for you. Stephen and I will be making our way to Poland and Germany in the middle of September. Stephen hits us with his photo news once again and I did not interrupt him once. Finally we rap up the show with something a little different. Instead of regular flying solo questions, I answer the rapid fire top 5 questions that were submitted. Thank you to Atomos for being this weeks main sponsor. Please check out Atomos.com and keep an ear out for the full contest rules to WIN a Ninja Star. Thank you to AllensCamera.com, Rode Microphone and all the people on the Wheel of Fro.

RAWtalk Episode #097 - I Hate When Bands Don't Credit Me
EHow many of you out there have ever had a band, business, client, family member or anyone else not give you photo credit? Don’t think that this is just new for the online world. I can think back to a few times where magazines were supposed to run my photo credit only to see if did not get printed. I would get the we’re sorry, we will get it right from here on out. Man that answer is really lame. Well recently a band used my images, with permission I might add but they did not credit it the way I asked to be credited or at all for that matter. Did I flip out and go all social media on their asses, NOPE. I simply took the it must have gotten lost in translation approach and contact the band directly along with their management. Be sure to listen to the full episode to hear how it all turned out in the end. A FRO reader sent Postman FRO a very nice gift in the way of a USPS Safari hat. You will need to see the video to check out how Sutter looked wearing it the entire show. Stephen Eckert hit us with some photo news including one story about a woman who PEES on her film to get interesting results. Yea, I think I have some reactions to go along with that story. Finally we go Flying SOLO with more of your questions that get submitted on Facebook. Enjoy the show and don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes. A Big think you to AllensCamera.com, Atoms, RODE Microphones, and all the companies on the Wheel of FRO.

RAWtalk #096: This Is For All The Hobbyists, a 2+ HOUR Show
EWe have to start off with a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stephen Eckert who's birthday was on Thursday. There is a large portion of you guys out there who consider yourself a “Hobbyists”. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a hobbyist who loves photography and may or may not be looking to make some money with their photos. Before the show I put out the call for hobbyists to ask me all the questions on their mind. The response was insane with over 350 questions coming over night. Many of them were very basic and others though basic were pinpointed at a specific topic which is great. There were so many fantastic questions this week that I know will help a lot of you out there. I knew this RAWtalk was going to go overtime but I wanted to make sure I answered as many questions as possible. So sit back, learn and enjoy this 2+ Hour edition of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. To get your FREE “See The World” card and Bag Tag please go to info.plasticprinters.com/fro and fill out the form. Remember this is US only. SAN FRAN MOBILE RAWTALK INFO. I have decided that the RAWtalk will be on Saturday August 16th possibly starting at Noon in Santa Rosa. As of now I don’t have a sign up page but you can e mail me at jared at FroKnowsPhoto dot com with subject line SAN FRAN RAWtalk and I will keep you posted.

RAWtalk Photography #095: I Am SO EMO Right Now
EIsn’t it always nice to get home from being away? I know a lot of people love being away but for me, I don’t like being away for to long. The key to my happiness is never stopping, when I stop, I become less happy. Many of you know I was out in Seattle on CreativeLIVE putting in 15-18 hour days and still it felt like a vacation to me. Well, now we are home at the loft and crushing another RAWtalk Episode. I must say, when we finished this weeks show we all sat there and said that was a good one. Of course you never know how it really went until you release it into the wild. Are you in London or Cologne Germany and can help with Mobile RAWtalk? If so please e mail me at Jared at FroKnowsPhoto.com with the subject line Mobile RAWtalk Help. I am looking for help in finding the locations, helping with the show and someone to correspond with people who are signing up. In my opinion there are a million different tripod companies all of which are creating pretty much the same tripods. Recently when I was at AllensCamera.com they had in stock the BENRO tripods and video tripods. I decide to try one out and liked it. When I like something I call the company to see if they will send me a test unit so I can see if I should recommend it to you. In this case I really liked the video monopod for the price and functions that it offered. Stephen hits you right in the face with more photo news before we CRUSH the flying solo questions that came in this week.

LIVE FROM SEATTLE It's FroKnowsPhoto Mobile RAWtalk #094
EYes you read that right, Stephen and I recorded our very first Mobile RAWtalk in front of a LIVE Studio Audience. Forty handpicked guests crowded into Studio A over at CreativeLIVE to listen to Stephen and I record a RAWtalk. I must say that having a LIVE Studio Audience made the show a million times better. The interactions with the studio took everything to an entirely new level. The best part is when I tell a joke and people actually laugh or on the flip side you say something that falls totally flat and you hear crickets. We ran the show pretty similar to how we run it here at the loft which means Stephen broke out the Photo News and I spent the time interrupting him. We did gear of the week which was the NEW Atomos Ninja STAR which is only $299 and will be finding it’s way into our mobile RAWtalk kit bag. Being that we don’t have a mobile Wheel of FRO we decide to pre record the wheel spinning and played it back on a TV for the entire ROOM to see. This weeks spinner was our new friend Trevor who acted as our Sutter this week. He reset the cameras and passed out the microphone for the Flying Solo Portion where members of the audience could hit me with some Q and A. Oh yea, the wheel landed on……. Stephen and I can not thank everyone who drove from near and far to join us for the very first FroKnowsPhoto Mobile RAWtalk. A huge thank you goes out to CreativeLIVE for allowing us to use their studio and a special thanks goes to Aaron from CreativeLIVE for busting is hump to make sure we had everything we needed. My goal is to take RAWtalk mobile as often as possible. I think you may all agree that this was the BEST RAWtalk EVER!!!!!

You've Just Been TinTyped: RAWtalk Photography Episode #093
EWhat goes into capturing images like it was 1850 all over again? I’ll tell you, a whole lot of knowledge, caustic chemicals and a lot of practice. I had photographer Giles Clement in to the loft this week to talk about his love affair with tintype photography. How he got into it, how he learned what he has learned and his thoughts on the future of the medium. Yes, I asked if it is being ruined by the easy access to everything that is needed to make tintype images. Giles knows his stuff and I asked him to stick around for a 5 Min Portrait using one of his 8x10 view cameras. That video was a lot of fun to make and I can not wait to share it with you. If you would like to contact Giles for his services you can contact him on his Squarespace site http://www.gilesclement.com/ . This week was loaded with a ton of Photo News stories that Mr Stephen Eckert brought to life. There were some interruptions, some singing and a whole lot of fun. Don’t forget I will be heading to Seattle to be on CreativeLIVE to teach a class on Low Light Photography starting Thursday July 10th until July 12th. This is a FREE class as long as you tune in to the live broadcast. While in Seattle we will be attempting our very first Mobile RAWtalk with a LIVE studio audience. I hope you will be able to join my class. I want to thank AllensCamera.com for their continued support, RODE Microphones for the killer audio gear we use, Atomos for our digital recorders and you.

RAWtalk 092: Sometimes the BEST questions are the hardest to answer
EI often put the call out for “Flying Solo” questions and generally a large portion of them have something to do with camera gear. Those questions do have place but I think the hard hitting questions tend to be the best ones. Sometimes the best questions are the hardest to answer. Questions that make me think or challenge something are the ones that bring out the best answers. Asking vague questions like “when do I know it’s time to go pro” are not exactly hard hitting. Whereas the more pointed questions have a better chance of getting answered. I am sure you are curious as to what those questions would sound like. You won’t have to wait to long as I made sure to select some of the harder hitting questions this week. Please keep the questions coming when I put out the call, your questions are helping not just me but other readers who probably are thinking the same thing. Just remember that I probably won’t be answering the questions related to "what lens should I buy" or “how do I make money”. But if you think it out and it’s hard hitting and to the point, there is a better chance it will get answered. Stephen came to the table this week with a fully loaded arsenal of photo related stories. We showcased the NEW DJI Phantom 2+ as our gear of the week. And we unveiled the NEW Wheel Of Fro graphics that a FRO reader was kind enough to send designs over for. There was also a little side step question that related to “What makes a good business card”. Sam Green was here and showcased his “Plastic” business card that he picked up at http://www.plasticprinters.com/ which I am in the process of testing out as we speak. I want to thank RODE for the microphones and arms that we use each and every week. I also want to thank http://www.Atomos.com for their continued support and finally AllensCamera.com for being there since day one. Don’t forget to ask for the FroPrice when you give Allens a call. Thank you guys and enjoy the show!!!

Going from a day Job to shooting the BIGGEST Musicians In the World: RAWtalk Photography #091
ESpringsteen, Alicia Keys, Kanye, Rihanna are just a few of the musicians that Michael Zorn has had the pleasure to work with. I asked Michael to join me at the loft to discuss how he was able to go from working a day job to shooting some of the largest bands in the world. You will be surprised to find out that Michael has only been shooting professionally since the mid 2000’s. His resume would tell you otherwise but his hard work and bridge building has set him up for success. Coming fresh off another year at Bannaroo Michael shares with you the inner workings of how he has climbed the photographic ladder. He does not hold back on anything, which means there is a ton of unfiltered information to glean from our conversation. Of course we can’t forget the Photo News with Stephen who hit’s us with the week in review. Don’t forget to check out the FroKnowsPhoto limited edition Talking Bobble Head at FroKnowsPhoto.com/bobblehead. To download this weeks show or check out the video and photo news review please go to FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-91

The Business Of Photography: RAWtalk Episode #090
EPhotography can be many things, it can be fun, it can be an obsession, it can be a release from the world and it can be a business. Chances are if you are following my Podcast and website you are looking to become a better photographer and in many cases make money with your photography. The business of photography is not easy. So many people think that being a full time photographer is the most glamours job in the world. Il be the first to tell you there is nothing better than to get paid to take photos. On the flip side I don’t spend as much time as I would like actually shooting. Business, branding and marketing is where my time as a photographer gets spent. With all of that said, I asked you guys to ask me business related questions so I can try and shed some light on the business side of photography. I answered more questions than I have on any other podcast. I also wanted to make very clear that there are no secrets to being successful. Not everyone will succeed at being a full time photographer but there is no reason why you can’t make good money at being one. All I can say is keep on shooting and fighting. If you want something bust your ass for it. Work harder then you have ever worked before. Be smart, take calculated risks but don’t over step before it’s time. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Atoms who is releasing very soon the Nijna Star which is a $299 tool that may just change how we all record video. For the full news stories and more please go to FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-90

I Was DENIED ACCESS Because Of My I SHOOT RAW Shirt and An Emotional Interview With My Dad: RAWtalk Photography #089
EBefore I jump into my RANT on the theme park Six Flags I want to talk about my very special and emotional interview of my father. I have wanted to sit down and interview my dad for a long time. I finally got the chance a few weeks back and wanted to save this interview for Fathers Day. This interview really means a lot to me but the hardest thing is coming up with questions to ask. Once we got past the first few minutes our conversations started to flow as if we were out to dinner and no one was recording it. You are going to get a look at things that no one really knows about me. I highly encourage you to sit down with your parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters for an interview. Ask them questions, record it, share it with your family and enjoy it. You never know when that chance will pass you by leaving you to never speak with them again. I kind of had a feeling this interview would take an emotion turn and it did. Before it ends I think many of you guys may be reaching for a box of tissues to wipe away some kind of tears. I know this is a personal interview between my dad and I but I am sure it will resonate with you all. Next up I was denied access to Six Flags Great Adventure which is a theme park in New Jersey because of my I SHOOT RAW Shirt. I was told that my shirt was inappropriate for their “family friendly” park that is on private property. I was honestly taken back with being told that I could not come into the park with my shirt. I have been wearing them for four years and have traveled the world with not one issue. When I asked what was inappropriate they would not tell me, so I chose to take out my phone to film me asking the question. I included the entire interview un-edited. I did not want to cut anything from it so you could hear and see the exact conversation. I was not happy that they would not tell me what about my shirt was inappropriate. I fully understand my shirt has double meaning but to not get an explanation is pretty infuriating. The one thing my brother was told was that my shirt could have double meaning. That may be true but you should SEE the shirts they sell in their stores that are even worse than mine. I have the images posted on the website. Now that that is out of the way we jump into Photo News which was loaded this week. We have Apple Photo News, Kickstarter projects and much much more. Zip Zap Zop???: RAWtalk Photography Episode #087
EWhat in the world is Zip Zap Zop any way? Well, I decided to sign up for an Improv class and it’s one of the opening exercises they make you do. When I say make you I mean it’s like a bootcamp to break down your walls. We spent the first few minutes of this weeks podcast talking about Improv and if you have one in your area I highly recommend you check it out and possibly sign up for a class. It really does have a photographic application as it helps you be quicker on your feet with clients and may help you speak better. Stephen gets you caught up on your photo news for the week which includes some interesting stories. We learn that Stephen Sutter’s mom just gave him the birds and the bees talk and much much more. For gear of the week we had some more Wassab batteries. I asked them to send me out some for Stephens 5D Mark III as well as for the Nikon D610’s. Like I have said in the past, I have not been a big fan personally of third party batteries but a lot of people have said they like these wassabi products. Do you use them, have you had any issues with them or do you think they work just fine? FLYING SOLO is back with 19 of your questions and one of the ones I read got to SPIN the Wheel Of FRO!!!!!! Question for you guys. If I were to take RAWtalk on the road to different cities would you purchase tickets to see us record live and be apart of the show? I was thinking I would find places where we can have an interactive show but the ticket sales would go to paying for the travel expenses. Let me know what you think with a tweet @FroKnowsPhoto or Facebook Message.

The BEST Trip I Ever Had + Ziv Koren Interview: RAWtalk Photography #086
EMy trip to Israel was the best trip I have ever had and I don’t mean drugs. After spending eight days in Israel where I ate some amazing food, met some amazing people and saw some amazing places I wanted to share my experiences with you. First things first this was a FREE trip, I did not have to pay a thing. The organization called Vibe Israel brings bloggers from around the world in different topics to help discover and talk about Israel. I am in no way obligated to say or do anything I do not want to do. You guys know I only talk about things I truly believe in anyway. Their goal is to show people that Israel is more than just WAR and what you see on tv which is generally conflicts. Now this is something that I know because I have been there before but so many people don’t know that Israel is more than just religious jewish people. Stephen and I discuss the entire trip on this weeks show. While I was in Israel I met Photojournalist Ziv Koren who has put himself in harms way when photographing the Israeli conflicts. His work is extremely powerful, it’s sometimes hard to find words since his images are so strong. Ziv is a Canon Ambassador which means he helps test out new gear before most people even know it’s real. But beyond everything else he is one hell of a person. I truly enjoyed getting to sit with him and spend time at his office talking photography. Thee is nothing I enjoy more than talking shop with like minded people. Stephen get’s us caught up on the photo new stories from the past few weeks before we jump into the interview and wheel of fro. I want to thank Atomos for sending us out Blade back so we could use it this week. Man oh man the screen on that thing is amazing. What a major difference from the one we were using before. Thank you to RODE Microphones, AllensCamera.com and everyone who hooks us up with prizes on the Wheel Of Fro. Enjoy this weeks show, you can find all the photo news stories at FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-86

Something A Little Different: RAWtalk Photography Episode #085
EAs many of you know I am in Israel from May 5th-13th and since I am out of the country I am not able to do a RAWtalk. But have no fear I still have an episode for you this week even though it’s something different. This week you get to hear me being interviewed by Photographer and founder of the Photo Brigade Mr Robert Caplin. I liked Roberts style of interview so much that I had to ask him for the audio so I could share it with you. His questions were spot on and not the typical ones I am used to hearing. He was able to pull information from me that not many other people have. I really hope you enjoy something a little different this week as I would rather give you this interview than leave you hanging with no RAWtalk. Being that this was an interview for Roberts podcast there won’t be any video but I will still post it on YouTube as well as have the MP3 available for download at FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-85 See you all very soon on the next RAWtalk.

All My Bags Are Packed: RAWtalk Photography Episode #084
EAll My Bags Are Packed: RAWtalk Episode #084 All my bags are packaged I’m read to go, I’m standing here outside your door, I’d hate to wake you up to say goodbye…… Yup my bags are packaged and I am on my way to Israel. At the time of this release I am hopefully in the air and a few hours into my 11 hour flight to Israel. Adam will be joining me there along with four other photographers from around the world. We will be in Israel thanks to an organization called Kinetis who’s goal is to try and show you that Israel is more than just WAR. Well, Israel is part WAR, part history and part tech and I will be capturing a little bit of everything when I am there. There will be a meet up at Google HQ in Tel-Aviv on Monday May 12th at 9:30 AM which is FREE to attend. All you have to do is e mail [email protected] and let them know how many people you will be attending with along with a phone number. They will e mail you back starting Thursday the 8th with all the information you will need for the meet up. Stephen brings us his photo news stories with fewer interruptions than ever, maybe. Scientist Sutter talks about setting up the DJI Phantom with the 3 axis gimbal and how he needs to have his tonsils taken out. Do you know how important it is to set up your employees for success? What I mean by this is setting them up with the tools to make their job easier which in turn saves time which saves money. See what I ordered Stephen to help him with editing. Gear, gear, gear, we have a lot of gear on the table for this week as I showcase some of the items I will be taking with me to Israel. Finally we strike hard with Flying Solo and Wheel of FRO. A BIG THANK YOU to RODE Microphones, ATOMOS, AllensCamera, Nikon for the three D610’s that we use to record each week and last but not least YOU!!!!!

Adam Elmakias FRO VS No FRO: RAWtalk Photography Episode #083
EThis week I had Adam Elmakias into the loft to sit down for an interview. If you are not familiar with Adam he is the guy behind the original lens bracelet and a touring music photographer. He has built a huge following on Intagram and Twitter and he sat down with me to share some of his stories on how he has built his following. There was a flurry of news stories relating to concert photographers that we touched base on. I had an interview with one of them who asked a band to credit him and use his original image but they refused in an unbelievable fashion. The second was a tour manager ranting about photographers and how it’s a privilege to shoot their bands. For this weeks Gear of the Week I broke out some new bags and another flying thing to discuss. We wrapped up this week with the Wheel of FRO where Jesus Chueca got to give it a spin. Don’t forget for more detail on this weeks Photo News stories please be sure to check out FroKnowsPhoto.con/rawtalk-83 Thank you to Atomos, RODE, AllensCamera.com and YOU for your continued support.

KEN Rockwell is Dangerous to Photography: FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk #082
EI have not RANTED on Ken Rockwell in a long while for a few reasons. But after reading his latest so called “educational” set up for the Nikon D3300 I finally had enough. You will find out what he said during the podcast but in my option it’s poisonous and dangerous to new photographers. The information he is giving is going to leave many beginners blaming their cameras for bad pictures since he says “the Nikon D3300 can’t take a bad picture”. Keep an ear out for the rant. My new Herman Miller chair has landed and all I can say is go take a look on their website to see the types of chairs they have. As photographers a majority of our time is spent in front of the computer yet we generally have crappy chairs to sit in. We spend good money on quality gear why skimp out on the chair we sit in. Did you photograph the blood moon? I guess I kind o front on an article named The 30 Best Instagam Blood Moon Photos. You know how people say it’s not the gear is the photographer well that’s not true when you are trying to shoot the moon. I had a chance to watch the Vivian Maier documentary and I do recommend that if it’s playing in your city that you take some time to check it out. We round out the show with FLYING SOLO and a spin of the Wheel of FRO!!!! I want to thank AllensCamera.com, RODE Microphones, ATOMOS, Herman Miller and YOU.

What's In The Box??? RAWtalk Photography Episode #081
EOh how I want to tell you what’s in the box right now. But if I did that it would spoil all the fun of listening to RAWtalk. This week there are two surpasses in store that both so happened to be waiting for the Stephens in the Elevator. The one for Eckert is just because but the one for Sutter is a belated birthday present since hipsters don’t celebrate birthdays. There was some major gear introductions last week because of the NAB show in Vegas. Atoms struck with two very cool NEW devices, one of which will capture 4K from the NEW SONY A7s which sounds like a beast. We also can’t forget DJI releasing the Phantom 2 Vision+ with a three way gimbal head. These three times get a few extra minutes this week. I can’t forget to tell you that this week I received three Nikon D610’s thanks to NIKON to record our three main camera angles for RAWtalk. We honestly didn’t test them out, we simply set them up and hoped for the best. I may have to warn you know that there is just a small singing section, not to much but just a little. Stephen hits us with the weeks Photo News Stories and I go into some discussion about Trey Ratcliff putting up 500 full res images for people to do anything but sell them. All of this and more on this weeks RAWtalk Episode #081. I want to thank Atomos, RODE, Allen’s Camera and you for making this show what it has become.

How To Get 30,000 YouTube Subscribers in 8 Months: RAWtalk Photography #080
EIt’s one thing for me to tell you that “ANYONE” can grow a following on YouTube but it’s another thing to see someone else actually do it. On this weeks show I have on Matt Beck who has started a YouTube channel dedicated to cutting hair. Yes you heard that right, his channel is called Free Salon Education and he posts four to five videos a week. You would think that he has a photography or video background but he does not. He knew nothing about photography a few months ago when a friend told him to check out my channel. You are going to hear how Matt followed the methods I talk about time and time again to start building his YouTube following. Matt dropped me a few e mails a while back with some samples of his videos. I decided to give him a call to drop some pointers that he actually took and used in future videos. Matt had a few more questions so I asked if he would like to come onto RAWtalk to ask his questions and tell his stories. So if you think that it can’t be done and you need to know everything about filming a video you are wrong. Matt is not a photographer, he is a hair stylist and business owner who decided he wanted more, and now he has more. If you are looking to get motivated this episode is going to do it. Before we jumped into Stephens Photo News I came clean about the April Fools Joke. Yes, the video about Nikon doing away with RAW in future cameras was a complete fabrication on my part. Some people fell for it others were not sure and some of you knew it right off the bat. It is always interesting to see peoples reactions. I had two pieces for Gear of the Week this time around including the DJI Phantom 2 Vision and an APC Battery Backup for my computer. This weeks Episode is brought to you by RODE microphones. Be sure to check out MyRodeReel.com to enter for your chance to win up to $70,000 in PRIZES!!!!!
