Fresno Unified School District faces significant budget cuts, with at least 200 full-time staff positions at risk. However, Chief Financial Officer Patrick Jensen expects minimal job losses due to reassignments and seniority bumping. The districts current year deficit has grown to nearly $89 million, with next years projected at $55 million. Teachers union president Manuel Bonilla proposes using $81 million in discretionary funds to protect jobs, but Jensen argues the funds are already allocated. Hearings for eligible staff begin in April, with final layoff notices by May 14th. The districts reserves are dwindling, risking state takeover if they fall below 2% in two years. California Cities Fresno and Sacramento Rank High for Drunk Driving: A Deep Dive into the Causes and Consequences This podcast episode explores the alarming trend of drunk driving in Fresno and Sacramento, two California cities that rank among the worst in the nation for DUI incidents. Fresno has an average of twenty-one DUI deaths per year and a DUI rate of three point three one per one thousand drivers, while Sacramento averages sixteen deaths and a DUI rate of three point five five per one thousand drivers. Experts attribute this to Californias warm weather, limited public transit, and strict enforcement leading to more reported cases. Fresno County Selected for CARE Court Program Boost; California Allocates $291M for Mental Health Services California Governor Gavin Newsoms office has chosen Fresno County as one of ten spots in the state to receive extra assistance for launching the CARE Court program. This places Fresno in the CARE Improvement and Coordination Unit (CARE ICU), which provides hands-on support through targeted training and technical aid for local teams managing the programs rollout. The state is also distributing $291 million in funding for behavioral health services and housing directly linked to CARE Court efforts. The program focuses on individuals with untreated schizophrenia or similar psychotic disorders, connecting them to long-term care through a court-guided plan. Family members, first responders, or professionals can initiate the process by filing petitions. This initiative is part of a broader state effort to revamp the mental health system and combat homelessness, following years of inadequate support. Officials emphasize that the court process guides individuals towards help, not punishment. Support the show:Get a discount at https://solipillow.com/discount/dnn. Navigating Financial Risks: The Importance of Insurance and Estate Planning In todays volatile market, safeguarding your assets is crucial. Experts advise cutting unnecessary expenses and distinguishing needs from wants. Early detection of potential losses can significantly impact your financial well-being.
