Ep 131We’d have taken a point before the game so let’s not complain too much...
Another assist and goal from Andi Weimann but the time added on curse strikes again to deny City all three points.Ian, Mark & DaveP discuss the game and Chris Martin's contract extension in a shorter episode than normal due to an error at Podbean Central! We'll be back after the international break but there may be another in conversation piece before that. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 130In conversation with ...... former City manager Alan Dicks
If you are over 60 you are of an age when you’ll be able to recall most of what former manager Alan Dicks has to say in this fascinating insight into his time at Ashton Gate. If you are younger then it offers the chance to hear tales from a man who took City to the top flight 46 years ago. When he became manager at City in October 1967 he was only 33 – that’s younger than LJ was and he’d not even had a no.1 role!In this interview you’ll hear Alan recount stories involving Jimmy Hill, Tommy Docherty, & Bryan Robson to name just a few. Also how Norman Hunter was never going to stay, Gary Collier leaving on freedom of contract and how, when his time at City came to an end, he wasn’t actually fired but instead rejected the chance to move upstairs and be finance director! Ep 129This season can’t disappear down the drain soon enough!
Ian, Mark & DaveP are joined on this podcast for the first time by Nigel Whittle whose erudite contribution is a pleasant antidote to the usual trip spouted by the rest of us.Quite honestly City were shocking tonight with the game as good as over after 20 minutes after the home side scored 2 goals, both from corners. No positives can be drawn from the night's performance which saw Joe Williams break down again 15 minutes after coming on as a sub for Scott. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 128At last a win on the road!
A much needed 3 points, an end to the dreadful away run and a clean sheet to boot.Ian & Mark go through the game with DaveP who was at Old Trafford yesterday to see a Renaldo hat-trick.Big question for Nige is does he recall Kalas for the trip to Oakwell on Tuesday?Credit to Weimann who looks on course to secure a 20 goal season for the first time in his career.Another match saving display from Bentley; I feared the worst as local hero Bradley Dack stepped up for his pen. Shout out for JDS who’s arguably our most improved player of late and on Cundy, maybe Ian has been right all along? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 127”We were crap....that’s life”
A fourth defeat in 5 games – we seem to be ending 21/22 in similar fashion to last season’s behind closed doors debacle. Ian, Mark and DaveP state the obvious in their analysis of the game, namely the side was set up wrong from the off with forward Sam Bell in a defensive role and being 0-2 down inside 15 minutes as a result. Scott’s goal at the start of the 2nd half offered hope but at no time did City really take the game to Birmingham after that. JDS had a good game but Williams & James were poor with Martin looking like he needs to find a larger pair of shorts. Whilst not accepting responsibility for the defeat Pearson pulled not punches with his “we were crap” assessment but his “that’s life” comment regarding Simpson continuing unavailable for selection deserves further scrutiny SORRY FOR LATE AVAILABILITY OF THIS EPISODE - PROBLEM WITH MAIN PODBEAN SITE Hosted on Acast. Ep 126City felled by the Trees!
2 points from the past 33 available on the road - it isn't great is it?City were back to their sad, bad old ways against Steve Cooper's side.Goal's either side of half-time secured victory for Forest who would have had a hatful were it not for Dan Bentley's heroics between the sticks.Do we have ANY right to expect more? Ian, Mark & DaveP discuss this and more including trying to fathom Nigel's abhorrence for the loan system - Spence, Davies & Garner are all loanees and were highly influential in Forest's win.Who are the Trees - a Derby County friend informed me long ago that this is the affectionate name they've given their neighbours! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 125”Excellent” despite the ending of a good home run
"Excellent" was the word used by Nigel to describe City's overall performance in the loss to the Sky Blues on Tuesday night.Perhaps it wasn't THAT good but most of the 19k crowd would have come away for the 2nd time in four days with the view that they'd seen a decent game of football.Despite another late goal it was an individual mistake that created it rather than the "collective anxiety", as Nigel put it [and we agree] in the defence as a whole.DaveFevs, Neil, Ian & DaveP review the match action and agree that the upswing, albeit erratic, in form is continuing, that HNM should have "taken one for the team" and maybe Kalas could have done more to prevent the winning goal. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 124Perfect Day
Ian, Neil & DaveP reflect on a thoroughly entertaining 90 minutes against a pretty good Boro side and how the tribute to the Ashton Gate 8 was staged immaculately to honour the 40th anniversary. You have to be over 40 to have a true understanding of what the AG8 did but the actions of Scott Davidson & Neil Palmer in particular has brought into focus what these guys did for a whole new generation of fans - we suggest what more can be done so the masses can say a true thank you. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 123Easy to blame Stroud on that pen. but that covers up the defensive frailties that define us
Weimann's 15th goal of the season was worthy of winning any match but once again poor, poor defending cost City dear.Never mind getting rid of players [not feasible as no-one would have the wastrels] how about making the ones we have operate better as a cohesive unit? Ian, Mark, Neil & DaveP have another Groundhog day discussion on City's pointless trip across the bridge Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 122Reading [H] reviewed ....
Three points on the board, probably just 10 more needed from 15 games to secure Championship status, this was not a great performance but no less than we deserved.DaveP is joined by Neil, Mark, DaveFevs & Ian in an hour of intelligent debate on the game and more!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 121After one step forward it appears two steps back
Neil, Mark, Ian & DaveP discuss a disappointing afternoon in wind & rain swept Blackpool as City's atrocious away record of 4 months continues. After quite a bright start City trailed by two goals at half time, both "avoidable" according to NP and creating a conceding record that hadn't been beaten since 1962!!The third goal on 48 minutes killed off any chance of a fightback with Nahki Wells strike merely a consolation. Is Reading a must win game?We also talk more on the Ashton Gate 8 and reflect on the contribution made by the new board of directors back then led by Deryn Coller and the late Ken Sage Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 120In conversation with ...... Rob Newman
With almost 500 appearances over the period 1982-1991 Rob is entitled to be regarded as a Bristol City legend.40 years ago this week as an 18 year old the departure of the Ashton Gate 8 meant he was handed his league debut against Fulham as the dawning of a new era began for the club. This chat with Rob was interesting and informative beginning with talk of how John Atyeo influenced the schoolboy Rob and through the 80s as he achieved two promotions [84 & 90] alongside many other highs during that period.Rob talks about how he never really wanted to leave City in summer 91 but in the years that followed at Norwich he was an integral part of a side that finished 3rd in the inaugural 92/93 Premier League season and a famous victory for the Canaries against Bayern Munich the following year.Rob talks about his move into player recruitment with Man City in 2008, naming his best find as David Silva and how in October last year he reunited with former City team-mate David Moyes at West Ham to lead player recruitment there. This is a truly fascinating listen for any City fan over the age of 45 who'll remember much of what Rob says and if you are younger it is good to understand how City came back from the basement of football in troubled yet often fun times such was the team spirit back then Hosted on Acast. Ep 119More ”time added on” heartache but positive signs continue
Another impressive display from City which was worthy of all three points.Ian and DaveP discuss a match that saw an opening 45 minutes rated the best since Pearson has been in charge. Two good goals, two stonewall penalties turned down, the growth of W-S-M as a potent threat. All we need to do is close out games better and stop conceding 2 goals a game!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 118City fall to former Gas man!!
Luton defender and former Rovers player Tom Lockyer scored one and made one for the Hatters as City fell to their 5th defeat in 7 matches and the continuation of their atrocious away form that has yielded one point from a possible 21.City were in quite sparkling form for the first 40 minutes before Luton took the lead but a fine strike by Weimann for his 14th of the season put them level midway through the second half. What proved to be the winner for Luton was another sloppy goal to concede but City had enough chances to take the point they deserved on the balance of play.Ian, Mark, David & Rob Pickles discuss the match action and much more Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 117Martin double gives City Severnside bragging rights!
Another 5-goal thriller at Ashton Gate as City's much improved home form saw them win 3-2 to complete a first double over the Bluebirds since 2003.Going behind on the half hour and losing Atkinson & King to injury might have signaled a meek surrender but Martin equalised within a minute, got his 2nd to put City in front midway through the 2nd period before another classy goal from Weimann, his 13th of the season put City in control. A late 2nd for Cardiff had the home fans groaning but Nigel Pearson's side, like him, appear to have found a level of resilience which bodes well for the future. In this episode Mark, Ian, Neil & DaveP discuss the action along with praise for Semenyo for his two assists, that Scott MUST play in midfield, JDS at RWB, Bakinson's departure, bottle throwing and FFP. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 116Semenyo brace the only positive as City are thrashed at the Cottage
We weren't expecting anything from this match against the free-scoring Londoners but when stunning goals from Semenyo twice gave City the lead at what has been a happy hunting ground in recent years there was some hope.Sadly that hope had gone as City were behind 5-2 at the break and the game was over. The power of Mitrovic had overpowered them and whilst one further goal came in the 2nd half the game was played out with hosts seemingly not eager to add to the 13 goals scored in their past two games.Ian & DaveP discuss the match action in their usual inimitable style!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 115A cup very much half full despite 3rd Round exit
Can you ever recall City losing 3 out of 4 successive home games with the fans having a general view that things are on the up?Whilst losing to effectively Premier League opposition City put in a display that on another day would have brought a comfortable victory were it not for so many missed chances. There were some interesting positional changes not least a Kalas, Atkinson, Pring back three but for me the introduction of Jay Dasilva as a RIGHT wing back gives City a new option well worth considering for the league game at Craven Cottage. In this latest episode we conduct our usual match analysis and speculate on a line up for next weekend's game. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 114City battle from behind to secure first win of 2022
A 3-2 win against the bully boys from London gave City the ideal platform to herald a much brighter outlook for 2022.A very young starting line up took the lead their early pressure deserved but two errors by the recalled Towler saw the visitors take an interval lead. A classy strike from Weimann then a third to complete his hat-trick were enough as City closed out the game without the typical Groundhog Day capitulation.Massengo was the difference after he came on at half time but overall it was a good 90 minutes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 1134Fs then FFS!!!
For the first 20 minutes of this game we saw the 4Fs that Nigel Pearson had promised us on his appointment: Fast, Front Foot Football! Thereafter it was a case, once again, of FFS: why no pen for Scott, why did Pring concede the spot kick, what was in Andy King’s head when getting a 2nd booking with over 30 minutes remaining, then OMG another goal conceded in stoppage time consigning City to another home defeat. The line up with 4 changes from the last game looked balanced and there was the surprise omission of Bentley. Semenyo missed a sitter and was denied by a good save – City could have been 3-0 up inside 15 minutes. In this episode we discuss the match action and speculate transfer window activity in the wake of the club’s latest financials. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 112Mid season review with Gary Owers
With over 600 league games under his belt [130 with City, 94-98] Gary Owers is perhaps more qualified than most to offer a playing perspective on City's form this season. In this final of our mid-season reviews Gary looks at recent team selections and in talk about the transfer window says not to rule out a cheeky bid for Alex Scott who he considers a more saleable asset than HNM.Hope you have enjoyed listening to these as much as I've done recording them.Merry Christmas everyone & thanks for listening Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 111Mid-season review with Richard Latham
DaveP speaks with Richard Latham in this latest episode reviewing the 21/22 season so far.Richard has been reporting on the fortunes of City on local media for over 40 years so his opinions should be taken on board, indeed, the conversation around the financial peril that the club finds itself in makes for interesting listening. The chat begins with DaveP & Richard reminiscing about the much missed days of Olympic Breakfasts and Jubilee Pancakes!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 110Half season review with Gregor MacGregor
In our 2nd half season review DaveP speaks with local media's Gregor MacGregor who gives his own candid assessment of how City are doing so far.Conversation reveals some positives and on transfer window speculation Gregor does not dismiss the idea of DaveP's fantasy signing. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 10921/22 Half season review featuring Chris Honor
Former player Chris Honor has built a reputation as a co-commentator on Radio Bristol for telling it as it is and in this the first of a series of mid-season reviews on City he pulls no punches in his assessment of the current situation at Ashton Gate.Speaking with DaveP the conversation looks at the positives of the season so far but then in depth at the areas of concern which seem to reflect current fan opinion on the various social media platforms Hosted on Acast. Ep 108We are what we are!
Normal service resumed at home with this 5 goal thriller against Huddersfield, we discuss the square pegs in round holes, the S82 morons who threw stuff on the pitch, inflated attendance numbers, the effect of Omicron and lots more Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 107City steal [?] a point from the Eye of the Tiger!
You can't really fault City for twice coming from behind to earn a point at the home of one of the form sides of the division, but was it a decent performance?Ian, Mark, & DaveP discuss the ins and outs of a display that would have earned more plaudits had the goals conceded not been shabby ones and the number of unforced passing errors been much reduced. We self analyse our criticism and ask if the current form of 8 points from 5 games represents some sort of turnaround and do we have it in us to secure an upper mid-table position.Talk switches, again, to the transfer window and a unanimous view that who comes in, if anyone, it is an absolute must that they are better than what we have. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 106Fortress Ashton Gate and who was Eddie Kavanagh?
Ian , Mark and DaveP are joined by Derby supporter Mike Stewart in discussing the 1-0 win vs. The Rams.On Saturday's EFL programme on Quest Colin Murray plagiarized what I had Tweeted 3 hours previously with my "Fortress Ashton Gate" comment as City extended their unbeaten home run to 4 and a first half pitch invasion by a Derby fan was reminiscent of Everton fan Eddie Kavanagh doing something similar at the 1966 FA Cup Final although he was brought to ground better than our stewards attempts on Saturday!!Mike gives his insight on Derby's financial woes we makes for a good listen and even Ian comes across in a relatively joyous mood!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 105What does a ”decent” January transfer window look like?
City put in a D- showing in the Sheffield snow where they went down 2-0 and, like so many games it could have been more.Ian, Mark & DaveP debate the match action and agree that even allowing for injuries the starting line up was destined to fail.Naturally Pearson's future is debated. Ian was of the view that his time could still be up but he's in a minority as talk moved to what a decent January transfer window looks like. Forget 5 new players we agree on three and that it should be two midfielders and a striker but with limited funds who is available that would be better than what we have. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 104Much to admire in a hard fought win - Stoke City [H] reviewed
When the 4th official signaled 9 extra minutes many feared the worst but in all honesty with a supportive crowd cheering them on there were no causes for concern as City secured the 3 points thanks to Bakinson's first half strike.A shaky opening could have seen the visitors put themselves in control but City got into the game and deserve a B+ for their collective efforts.Ian, Mark, DaveFevs & DaveP discuss the match action and look forward to Sunday's lunchtime encounter with the Blades. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 103Some improvement, a C+ performance
Had Wells header gone in late on would City have held on for a much needed win in the 11 minutes [inc. time added on] that remained? Based on their first half performance we would have said yes but the 2nd half was quite poor which is why we've only given them a C+ rating for this draw against Tony Mowbray's Blackburn.Injuries and changes meant it was an interesting line up with youngsters Scott & Benarous both starting and Williams returning to the midfield after injury - keep him fit & playing and we won't go down - he's that good.Ian, Mark & Dave P discuss the match action in our Centenary episode, look forward to Wednesday's home game vs Stoke and assess the fallout from Nigel's comments in the pre-match presser Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 102Keep Calm & Carry On, what else can we do?
The rumour mill was in danger of falling off it's spindle on Monday regarding Nigel Pearson's future as Bristol City Manager. Missing a third game of the season due to illness and the club's wretched run of recent form was he going to be binned off so early into the project?CEO Richard Gould followed up a Robins TV interview with an unscheduled but asked for [by the club] appearance on SOTC. Questioned by Geoff Twentyman City fans were left none the wiser about when Nigel would return and what contingency plans might be in place if his absence were to be long term.Ian, DaveFevs and DaveP made this unscheduled episode to give their views on the current situation which included whether LJ might return if he is relieved of his duties at Sunderland which is looking increasingly likely!!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 101City achieve a new low!!! Coventry [A] reviewed
Twice in front with a one man advantage for half the game City stumbled to a 3-2 defeat at Coventry with another performance that had relegation written all over it.Post-match coach Curtis Fleming called out the players for "lack of desire" and anyone watching could see the team again lacked any shape or imagination.Ian, Mark, Lezz & DaveP have a tense discussion in this latest episode and wonder whether it really is a time for Colin moment!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 100More of this and a whiff of relegation will become a stench!
Ian, Mark & DaveP discuss another fruitless trip to England's 2nd City and again it is the manner of the defeat giving most cause for concern. Were we OK for the first hour? Not really although some might argue otherwise. The 2nd & 3rd goals for the home side were down to weak defending and City played out the game in a manner akin to that look of being bereft of ideas, leadership that followed in the few minutes after Barnsley took the lead on Saturday.Nigel Pearson watched the whole game from the stand and questions are going to be asked about him remaining in charge with increasing voracity.Bottom line is can City win 10 from 30 to secure the 50 points needed to avoid the drop Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 99All hail the Austrian - Barnsley [H] reviewed
A brace, his third of the season, from Austrian international Andreas Weimann earned City the points to end their wretched run of home form.Drink up thee Cider was played to an emptying stadium for the first time in over 600 days but City were far from convincing against lowly opponents and if they had lost the game 2-4 it would have been a fair reflection on the game as a whole. As it was two well struck goals in 5 minutes just before half time were enough to keep City mid-table with a third of the season gone and just 5 points outside the playoffs.Ian, Mark and DaveP discuss the match action and look forward to two games on the road in the midlands this coming week. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 98The misery is building for Big Nige - WBA reviewed
Third defeat in 8 days at the Hawthorns as City went down 3-0 in a performance that was as bad as anything we saw in the dark days of last season.Ian, Mark, Lezz & DaveP discuss a shapeless, spineless performance and debate the wider picture that is emerging from the Pearson era.We may have players of lesser ability, particularly compared with parachute payment supported clubs, but we're seeing our team play boring football lacking any identity and still a question mark exists over overall fitness levels as we seem to be brushed aside at will by opponents. On paper Pearson looked a good appointment but how come clubs with less resources and less experienced men at the helm like Luton & Coventry are competing at this level better than we are with 1/3rd of the season gone Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 97Remember, this is a project .....
Recording this podcast some 15 hours after the final whistle meant DaveFevs, Mark, Ian & DaveP were in a relatively philosophical mood when dissecting last night's action at Ashton Gate where 50 seconds of madness in injury time against resurgent Forest saw City snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. We ask how many of the current team would get in the successful 2017/18 pre-Christmas line up along with discussing how Nigel should set up the team in another tough test at the Hawthorns this coming weekend. We agree Nigel is still the man with Ian the only dissenter with his jury's out view.Barnsley next up ..... a win after 17? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 962nd best but we didn‘t even compete - Bournemouth [H] reviewed
It was never going to be easy against unbeaten league leaders Bournemouth but the early departure of Joe Williams after just 13 minutes seemed to knock the stuffing out of a City side whose winless home run is 16 games!Ian & DaveP discuss the match action starting with the fact that the side were set up wrong to begin with. By the end City were so outclassed that the visitors were knocking the ball around like it was a practice game.We discuss the fact that 12 years ago the Cherries were struggling in League 2 - is it just taking an £8M fine for breaching FFP for one season that created a platform for 5 seasons in the top flight? We look forward to Tuesday's game at home to Forest - that home win may still elude as with the visitors resurgent under Steve Cooper by winning 4 of the last 5 Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 95City successful on the road again in a 5 goal thriller at soggy Peterboro
Ian, Lezz & DaveP debate an enthralling game at London Road where Chris Martin answered his critics by grabbing the winner and late saves from Dan Bentley meant it stayed that way in another match where we weren't that convincing.Sitting in 9th with a quarter of the season gone is no mean feat at this still early stage of the Pearson era but we were defensively ragged at times with the opposition again allowed far too many crosses.Joe Williams played a full 90 minutes and at last showed the sort of form that proves what an asset he is and George Tanner appears now to have made that right back spot his own as well as scoring his first goal for the club. The international break offers time for the injured to recover before a testing 3 games in 8 days against leaders Bournemouth, a resurgent Forest [both at home] and WBA. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 94We lost and it was poor - a review of Millwall [A]
This defeat had echoes of the rubbish that we thought we had seen the back of!Ian, Mark & DaveP discuss a dire game at the Den, preview Peterborough and predict a points haul in the five games that follow the international break before there's another one! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 93KP Nuts Fulham with neat finish as City get point against classy opponents
Ignoring the fact that Fulham hit the woodwork three times and missed a number of other gilt edged opportunities then this was another wholehearted display by City which was worthy of a share of the spoils in itself.Ian & DaveP discuss the match action where the unbeaten run was extended to 5 games but City are now winless in 15 at Ashton GateWe praise an impressive sub appearance by Joe Williams and salivate at the prospect of a midfield trio with him James & Massengo as the season progresses. Two trips on the road before the next international break. The games at Millwall and Peterborough are also previewedAPOLOGIES FOR SOME ANNOYING SOUND ISSUES IN THIS EPISODE Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 92Hoops destroyed by Nahki‘s late strike
Having already been victims twice this season to stoppage time goals it was City's turn to mete out the hurt and experience the joy as sub Nahki Wells sent 2000 travelling fans into raptures with his stylish late winner.David, Lezz, Mark & Ian celebrate the win but at the same time consider City's overall play which allowed 26 shots [11 on target] to pepper the goal area.We marvel at another all action display from Massengo, several top class saves from Dan Bentley, a competent debut for Gordon Tanner in the troublesome right back spot and a successful return to the first team for Bakinson. The Fulham game is previewed as City look for their first home win in 15 games. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 91The sum of the parts
Ian & Mark discuss the Luton game which saw the winless home run extend to 14 games after Dan Bentley's error allowed the Hatters net a much deserved injury time equaliser. If Luton had gone in 4-1 up at half time it would have been a reflection of their goal threat and it wasn't a case of one player having a stinker [*] of a performance but just a collective lethargy that bought unwelcome post match comments from Nathan Jones.HNM & Cam Pring were the bright sparks but for City right now the sum of the parts is not making a decent whole. The guys give their view on what needs to change with tough games coming up at QPR then home to league leaders Fulham.[*] - I don't attach that label to Alex Scott who was played out of position and joins a trio of youngsters taken off early by Nige [Towler & Bakinson] Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 90Unwanted home record extended but we ARE getting better
13 games now without a home win but the general consensus from yesterday's 0-0 draw against Preston was that we played OK in a match that last season we probably would have lost. For a game without goals it had its fair share of goalmouth action and a share of the points was probably a fair outcome if you were a neutral observer. We debate whether Nigel made the right call in starting with the side that won at Cardiff and Ian in particular challenged DaveP's view that playing Baker at left back is NOT too defensive. We pick HNM as the best of the midfield trio in which both James & King were not at their best and we question the long throw routine which has become an unwanted part of our game. Why Kalas every time when Vyner can do similar, then again why at all when no clear cut chances have come from this tactic. With Luton next up at Ashton Gate we speculate what changes Nigel might make to the starting line up to improve the goal threat. DaveP echoed the view of some of the live listener text messages that COD is NOT the answer but in form Janneh might be. We agree Scott should be recalled, probably at the expense of King and surely Louis Britton is worth a place on the bench if only to east the strain on Chris Martin. Hosted on Acast. Ep 89Early term report ..... in conversation with Dave Fevs
DaveFevs is widely regarded as being amongst the more erudite contributors to the various social media platforms analysis & opinion on how City are doing on and off the field. In this 1-2-1 chat with FBC PODCAST host DaveP they review the opening 5 games, how the squad looks now that the transfer window has closed, what can we expect going forward and that begins with a batch of 6 games before the next international break.By then 1/4 of the season will have passed and we predict a points haul which would suggest we are not in for the relegation battle which many had predicted Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 88The Shape of things to come?
DaveP, Mark, Ian & Lezz wax lyrical about City's performance at the CCS as the second win of the season was secured with a 2-1 success.Nigel opted for height with Baker in as a straight swap for JDS as a left back rather than in a 3. Baker alongside the increasingly impressive Pring gave City a particularly strong left flank. Two superb strikes by Weimann would have most saying he was MOM but we thought Massengo ran him close with an energetic display and a sublime back heel which allowed Semenyo to cross for goal No. 2.This was arguably City's best showing since Pearson took over and a few more performances like this will see his "era" getting up to speed after a stuttering start. We also chewed over the likelihood or not, the latter being more likely, of significant transfer activity before the window shuts as it seems Pearson is true to his word of not buying for the sake of it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 87Pring /O'Dowda left side combo? This and more in Swansea [H] review
12 home league games without a win - a new & unwanted club record following the 0-1 reverse against Swansea on Friday night. We discuss the match action which offered some hope for the future. The issue is our goal threat - a distinct lack of! Is JDS now the weakest link? There is agreement amongst the panel that a left side combo of Pring & O'Dowda is the best option.Cardiff up next and the aerial threat posed by this very physical side for whom Aden Flint has scored a brace in each of his last two games. How will we cope, might we switch to a different formation is another topic discussed along with speculation as transfer deadline day approaches. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 86Nigel can dance now! City win for the first time since March
A first win in 13 league games was secured at Reading in a performance that showed both how good City can be and at the same time the weaknesses that have been prevalent for too long. Two classy goals gave City a 2-0 advantage inside a quarter of an hour before sloppy defending gave Reading hope before the break. Alex Scott's first assist set up Weimann to complete his brace but then former loanee, Liam Moore, scored late on after being allowed to run 60 yards unchallenged which meant backs to the wall defending in the closing minutes.Kalas came in for Baker and showed he's mastered a long throw of the type we've not seen since Magnusson. Cam Pring was given his debut and it was a tactical masterstroke playing him wide left to support Dasilva with pace and physicality. The win was deserved and 2k travelling fans went home happy.Ian, Mark and DaveP were joined by former player Chris Honor in this positive and intelligent discussion on the match action Hosted on Acast. Ep 85Message to Nigel: Play Kalas at right back if you won't change the formation
NP was right in saying carelessness was the main factor in City's defeat at the Riverside but we say you must play your best players which in turn means Kalas must start.Ian, Lezz, Mark & Headhunter discuss the match action and suggest Kalas should play at right back if NP won't switch to 3-5-2 to accommodate him. It's worth remembering that Kalas played at right back when on loan from Chelsea at both Boro & Fulham in teams that secured promotion to the Premier League. We try not to join the anti-Pearson debate that is raging on OTIB although we aren't expecting much of a points return from the next two games Hosted on Acast. Ep 84It felt like a defeat - Blackpool [H] reviewed
Almost 18k at Ashton Gate for a league game some 17 months after the last and a similar 1-1 scoreline against newly promoted Blackpool.Ian, Mark & DaveP discuss the match action which at the final whistle felt like a defeat with the Seasiders equaliser coming with almost the last kick of the game. The need for a striker was shown by the fact that City squandered enough chances in the first half to have given them more than Chris Martin's fine headed opener and put the game beyond Blackpool's reach.Overall it was a solid display but many of last season's failings were still in evidence despite the new midfield access of King & James. Pearson watched the game from a high vantage point in the Lansdown Stand. His late substitutions added nothing, in fact they disrupted the shape and it wasn't a complete surprise when the visitors two subs combined to grab that equaliser. No minutes for Kalas or Wells and after the game Nagy announced he wants to leave - is Pearson trying to freeze out the high wage earners? Somebody needs to buy them though and we await departures before the window shuts at the end of the month. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 83Season 21/22 Preview with Gregor MacGregor
Gregor took time out of a busy week to speak with us about how he sees City's prospects for the upcoming season. We talk team selection and end up with something that might be considered a 4-2-2-2 and he's very bullish in his assessment of City gathering 10 points from the first 5 games. For me, anything above 6 would be a bonus! He gets some stick on the forum but he's the best we've had for a while on what is an apology for a local newspaper. I'm in the camp that feels he should be given a little more respect by Nigel in the press conferences. If the relationship is tense now just imagine what it will be like if we're in the bottom 6 in mid-September? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
