Fifteen years ago Cedar Rapids' Zach Johnson stunned the game outlasting Woods, Michelson, Furyk, Rose and Westwood to win the prized Green Jacket.Henrik Stenson of Sweden finished 17th that frigid rainy Sunday. Zach Johnson and Stenson were recently named Ryder Cup Captains for 2023 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club just outside Rome. There's a lot to unfold the next 18 months. Right now Iowa City born Zach Johnson is looking for a repeat in Georgia. We'll sit down with the rabid Hawkeye fan on Fight for Iowa.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and Defensive Coordinator Phil Parker arrived together 24 years ago with the same goal, win games by running the ball and stopping the run. That approach has worked nicely.Parker began as backfield coach before succeeding Norm Parker. His recruiting and tutoring have been significant. From Bob Sanders and Desmond King to present day Riley Moss and the immediate future in Xavier Nwankpa, the Hawkeye secondary has shown a nose for the football. It was tops in the country with a school record 24 interceptions last season and has picked off 88 passes in the last 5 years. Spring football practice started this week and we'll sit down with Phil Parker to visit about present and future on this week's Fight for Iowa. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Iowa Hawkeye basketball and wrestling are in a frenzied focus this week. Big Ten titles for both the Men and Women hoops have them in an enviable position. The Brands Brothers and the wrestlers motor into the motor city for a showdown with the Nittany Lions, Wolverines and Buckeyes for a National championship. Quietly, across the street, the defending West Division champion Football Hawkeyes are readying for spring practice. March 23rd sees the opening session where the mold for this fall begins to take shape. Iowa lost to Michigan in the Championship game. A trip to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando New Years Day saw a late Kentucky touchdown result in a 20-17 victory for the Wildcats and end Iowa's three game bowl winning streak. With another successful recruiting class in the books, the coaches and players turn their attention to six months from now when a strong defense and special teams look for repeat performances of 2021. The offense wants more production from its QB and running game and should get both with a more seasoned offensive line and a years experience for gifted wide receivers Keegan Johnson and Arland Bruce the 4th. We'll visit with Hawkeye offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz on Fight for Iowa.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

There have been only four sports information director's in the history of Iowa athletics, dating back to 1924. Eric Wilson was the first and spent 44 years in the main chair. Wilson was an Iowa track star as a student and qualified for the 1924 Olympic games. Wilson at one time held the world record in the 200 and 400 meters. In between he and Steve Roe were George Wine and Phil Haddy. Three of the four are in the CoSidsa Hall of fame with Roe to be inducted in June. Roe has assisted five student athletes in gaining national awards, he's promoted 16 All Americans, created the all century basketball team in 2002 and has worked over a hundred Big Ten and NCAA championship events. Steve Roe is our guest on this week's Fight for Iowa Podcast.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

When Iowa basketball coach Tom Davis got the commitment from Kenyon Murray out of Battle Creek High School at the beginning of the 1990's he knew he was getting another piece to the helter skelter man to man press that forced opponent turnovers right and left. Davis got a lot more than he bargained for. Murray posted career averages of 10 points and nearly 5 rebounds. He was a 46% shooter and a demon on defense. 200 career steals including a single game record of 9. Kenyon loved Iowa, the university and the state, so much that he put down roots and started a family with wife Michelle that produced identical twins in Keegan and Kris. They've been producing ever since. The Fight for Iowa podcast welcomes Kenyon Murray to the microphone!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

New Iowa Volleyball coach Jim Barnes grew up in the deep south and has spent most of coaching career in that region but he's well aware of how strong the upper Midwest and Big Ten teams are in this court game. Recently Wisconsin beat Nebraska for the NCAA title. Behind those two come Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue and Michigan as power programs in America's top conference by far. In a sport that now numbers more participants than college basketball, Barnes relishes the chance to move Iowa into that group.
