Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and Defensive Coordinator Phil Parker arrived together 24 years ago with the same goal, win games by running the ball and stopping the run. That approach has worked nicely.
Parker began as backfield coach before succeeding Norm Parker. His recruiting and tutoring have been significant. From Bob Sanders and Desmond King to present day Riley Moss and the immediate future in Xavier Nwankpa, the Hawkeye secondary has shown a nose for the football. It was tops in the country with a school record 24 interceptions last season and has picked off 88 passes in the last 5 years. Spring football practice started this week and we'll sit down with Phil Parker to visit about present and future on this week's Fight for Iowa.
