Empowering Women to Take Control of Their Money with Jenifer Sapel
EWomen, want to learn how to confidently take control of your money? First, we’ve got a lot of things working against us. We start and stop our careers many times for kids and family members, and we live longer than men on average because of that, we typically spend our money taking care of our male partner and tend to avoid talking about money. It makes sense why, as our guest Jenifer Sapel, a financial advisor and owner of Utor Wealth, said at the beginning of this episode - we’re often talked to like infants. But Jen cautions us that context is important. You see, the financial services industry was designed by and for cis white men. So, as women, we’ve got to start talking about money, educating ourselves about money, and aligning our money with our values. Jen brings it all in this conversation, where she shares the 3 phases of your financial life that you need to know about, why we need to break the model of ranking things from best to worst when it comes to money, and why you need to know that wherever you’re starting from is perfectly ok - learning about money is a lifetime practice. And you don’t want to miss our conversation about fun financial facts about women - like that banks could legally require a man’s signature for a woman to apply for a loan all the way until 1988. That’s not that long ago. The opinions voiced in this podcast are for general information only and are not intended to provide specific advice or recommendations for any individual. To determine which strategies or investments may be suitable for you, consult the appropriate qualified professional prior to making a decision. How Well Are You Doing Financially
Am I saving enough? Will I have the money I need to retire? Is it okay to spend money on traveling and having fun? Am I being irresponsible with my finances? How do I really know if I’m doing well financially? This episode was inspired by a listener question from Lizbeth, who sent me this message, “Shannah, I feel like I’m in a bit of a tailspin. I know you always say that making different money decisions depends on your goals. And I’ve learned so much from this show and from your honesty about money over the last few years. But I’m in a weird space. I just don't know how I’m doing financially. I know I shouldn’t care about how well I stack up, and I’m trying my best, but it just feels like I’m alone out here making money decisions that I don’t know if they are right or not. Ask Shannah: How to Master Your Money Goals
EIn this Ask Shannah episode, I'm sharing how to master your money goals inspired by a question from Amanda: "I love your podcast and have been listening for over a year now, being inspired and working towards my goals. Maybe my question isn't really a question but more like a request for a pep talk. I have 4 main money goals that I've been slowly working towards Paying off my student loans, saving 4 months of expenses in my emergency fund, saving $3,000 in what I like to call an "oh shit fund" (I can access this savings account much quicker than my emergency fund), and finally saving for a house. For the past 6 years, I've been laser-focused on paying off my student loans, but because of the pandemic, I decided to shift my focus on hitting my emergency fund goal. Recently, however, I've been struggling with staying focused on achieving the emergency fund goal. I now have only $9,000 left to go of my student loans, and I'm also only 3 months away from hitting my emergency fund goal, but now I'm getting the urge to use basically all of my emergency fund money to pay off my student loans now. I know if I did this, I would feel AWESOME, but know I would feel anxious knowing I had no emergency fund to fall back on. Do you have any suggestions for staying focused on one goal before making a rash decision and jumping to another goal? I know these are all good problems to have, but I would really love some words of encouragement or advice on how to stay focused on my current goal." Is It A Good Time To Buy Real Estate with Selling the Hamptons Star Bianca D'Alessio
In this episode of Everyone's Talkin' Money, I'm back with another fascinating topic: home buying in today's market and whether it's a good time to buy real estate. I was walking around my neighborhood this morning and was blown away by the number of people selling, buying, and remodeling houses. I was thinking there’s so much talk about high-interest rates and how expensive housing prices have gotten, but it doesn’t seem to be deterring anyone from going about their normal buying, selling, and remodeling home business. So then I thought, if you’re looking to buy your first home, is there ever a “right” time to buy? Lucky for us, Bianca D’Alessio, who is the Ranked #1 Real Estate Broker in New York and New York State and #14 in the Nation for 2022, manages a $10B real estate portfolio for Nest Seekers International and is the Star of Selling the Hamptons on Max(formerly known as HBO) is our guest. Ask Shannah: 5 Common Investing Taboos That Keep You Stuck (& How to Get Unstuck)
Are these 5 investing taboos keeping you stuck? In Today's Shannah Shares, Community Q&A reboot episode, I tackle a question from Laquesha: "Hi, Shannah. Thanks so much for answering my question. I really want to start investing, but I keep getting hung up on all the chatter out there. I can’t figure out if I’m supposed to wait to start investing until I’ve paid off all my debt, or is that not smart to do? Also, it just feels like I need to be an expert at investing to do it well. I know that’s not true, but it just feels so hard to figure out investing. I know so many people are making a killing, and I kinda feel bad that I haven’t started at all, know what I mean. You’ve done so many great investing episodes; I’m curious if there’s an episode from the past that you think I should check out. You’re awesome, and I so appreciate this show for motivating me.
