Episode 234: Dr. Enna Reittort: Matrix--Red Pill/Your World is Not What You Think it is/Religion as Deceit/Krivda, the Godrix Against the Matrix

Dr. Enna Reittort is a traditional cultural anthropologist, a linguist, a regenerative farmer, and a contemplative meditator. She lives in a village in south-east Asia. In this podcast, we discuss her work Krivda, the Godrix Against the Matrix. Krivda is an ancient Russian word that means "deceit" with a twist--the subtler, more pernicious connotation of "reality made crooked." This word, and its meaning, underpins the discovery of how machineries of "religion" operate over a long historical arc of six thousand years, revealing striking structural and operational continuity from religions of ancient gods to those of the modern secular gods of money and science. The new god of techno science seamlessly taking the succession of its predecessors all gathered into its fold, its dogma seamlessly taking over the well-conditioned mind and psyche of humans...Therein lies the "god-trix." Episode 233: Jon E. Graham: Matrix--Blue Pill/The Illuminati/the Illuminati Egregore

Jon E. Graham is an award winning writer, translator, and graphic artist. He specializes in books on Surrealism, esoteric traditions, and folklore. Books he has translated include The Immaculate Conception by Andre Breton and Peter Eluard, Little Anatomy of the Physical Unconscious, and many others. In this book, we focus on his translation of The Bavarian Illuminati: The Rise and Fall of the World's Most Secret Society written in 1914 by Rene Le Forestier. Le Forestier utilized as much primary source material in researching this book as was available at the time. Bavarian academic Adam Weishaupt founded the short-lived Bavarian Order of the Illuminati in 1776, mainly as a reaction to Jesuit stranglehold on education in Bavaria at the time. An intelligent, but vain individual, Weishaupt's grand design didn't last more than 10 years. Yet the idea of the Illuminati and their efforts to sabotage the Church and other esoteric organizations planted seeds that still bear fruit today of a global organization with its tendrils in everything from the government to the stock market. However, as pointed out by the author, the Illuminati couldn't keep itself secret for a decade, let alone for hundreds of years. Episode 228: Vesa Iitti: Lightbringers of the North/Finnish Esoteric Tradition/Mythic Kalevala

This podcast will focus on the book Lightbringers of the North: Secrets of the Occult Tradition of Finland which will be released by Inner Traditions on July 12th. Finland has long been viewed as the land of sorcerers and shamans. Exploring the rich history of Finnish occultism, Perttu Hakkinen and Vesa Iitti examine the significant figures and groups of Finland's occult world from the late 19th Century to the present day. They begin with Pekka Ervast, known as the Rudolf Steiner of the North, who was a major figure in Theosophy before starting a Rosicrucian group called Ruusu-Risti, and they look at the Finnish disciples of G.I. Gurdjieff and the grim case of the cult of Tattarisuo. Unveiling both the light and dark sides of modern esotericism in Finland, the authors show how, because of its unique position as partially European and partially Russian, Finland's occult influence extends into the very heart of left-hand and right-hand occult groups and secret societies around the world. Perttu Hakkinen (1979-2018) was a journalist, writer, and musician from Helsinki, Finland. He was the founder of the band Imatra Voima. Vesa Iitti is a Finnish writer and translator with a master's degree in comparative religion. He lives in Turku, Finland. Episode 221: Dr. Alexander Boxer: Data Science and "A Scheme of Heaven"/Storytelling Possibilities in Data/Ptolemy/Carl Sagan

Alexander Boxer is a data scientist with a PhD in Physics (M.I.T.) and degrees in the history of science (Oxford) and classics (Yale). His research has appeared in Nature Physics and he was a field agent for Atlas Obscura in Washington D.C.. In this podcast, we discuss his book A Scheme of Heaven which describes humans as pattern-matching creatures, and astrology as the ancient world's grandest pattern-matching game. In this work of history and analysis, Dr. Boxer examines classical texts on astrology to expose its underlying scientific and mathematical framework. Astrology, he argues was an ambitious applied mathematics problem, a monumental data analysis enterprise sustained by some of history's most brilliant minds, from Ptolemy to al-Kindi to Kepler. In short, astrologers became the first to stumble upon the powerful storytelling possibilities inherent in numerical data. Episode 195: Tom Hatsis: The Psychedelic Historian/The Golden Age of Psychedelic Research in the 1950s/How to Avoid a Bad Trip

Thomas Hatsis is an author, lecturer, and historian of witchcraft, magic, Western religions, contemporary psychedelia, entheogens, and medieval pharmacopeia. In this podcast, despite many detours, (all my fault) we tend to focus on his new book LSD-The Wonder Child: The Golden Age of Psychedelic Research in the 1950s published by Inner Traditions. This marvelous new work details the blossoming of psychedelic research in the 1950s. Tom details the experimentation of different groups--from research labs to the military to bohemian art circles--who were seeking how best to utilize LSD and other promising psychedelics like mescaline. Sharing the details of many primary source medical reports, the author examines how doctors saw LSD as a tool to gain access top the minds of schizophrenics and thus better understand the causes of mental illness. The author also looks at how the CIA believed LSD could be turned into a powerful mind-control weapon, including a full account of the notorious top secret program MKUltra.
