The 45th anniversary of the World Karting Association Daytona KartWeek is upon us. In 1974, karts hit the World Center of Racing - the Daytona International Speedway - for the first edition of the annual event between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This year, three events - including the Manufacturers Cup Series, Road Racing and Dirt World Championships - will take place in Daytona Beach, Florida from December 27-30. It has been just over a year since the launch of the GFC chassis brand, led by American karting star Gary Carlton. The NorCal native has traveled all over the globe competing at the international level before hanging up the helmet at the end of 2017. Carlton wanted to continue to live his passion, and thus the GFC brand was born. It has blossomed into a full race team and driver development program, set for further expansion throughout the United States in 2020. One of the breakthrough drivers of the 2019 season has been Race Liberante. The California native now calling Pennsylvania home has retriggered his role behind the wheel. A former SKUSA SuperNationals podium finisher, Liberante stepped away from the sport to focus on stock car racing. The last few years, Liberante has been sliding back into karting, working with a number of teams and drivers. In 2019, Race went full-time as a driver, taking on the SKUSA Pro Tour in Pro Shifter 2. Four wins locked up the title for the CompKart driver. Add in wins at the USAC Karting Battle at the Brickyard and the Rock Island Grand Prix King of the Streets. The ‘Operation Grassroots’ is a podcast geared solely on the foundation of the sport. The hub of the show will be discussion centered on the grassroots level of karting, from club racing to regional racing, all focused around the Briggs & Stratton 206 engine platform. Our #OperationGrassroots movement has been based around the Briggs powerplant, with the ultimate goals of bringing new people into the sport and igniting the spark of former racers to come back into what is the most economical form of karting. The 2019 season for the Cup Karts North America Champions Cup program closed out in August following one of its most successful years to date. The large travel series in the Midwest is now set to host the largest 4-Cycle event in North America, with the CKNA Grand Nationals 3 at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Drivers from all over the continent are traveling to central Indiana for what should be a record-breaking event. Grassroots racing has been a focus for Margay Racing since the beginning. The leading ‘Made in the USA’ chassis manufacturer continues to feed club tracks and series with the products to get on track and enjoy what is a family sport. The World Karting Association is returning back to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The facility that neighbors the WKA headquarters has been vacant from the organizations’ yearly schedule since 2009. The 10-year void has been filled with the upcoming Charlotte Motor Speedway Karting Challenge, welcoming the Manufacturers Cup Series, National Road Racing Series, and Speedway Dirt competing on the June 21-23. The 2019 season has been one of drivers moving around to new teams and different chassis. One of the most notable changes is Billy Musgrave moving to Croc Promotion USA / Mad Old Nut Racing. One of the most unique events in the United States, if not the world, is set to take place on June 21-23 at the New Castle Motorsports Park. The 10th edition of the 24 Hours of America will test the will of man and machine for the twice around the clock event in spec karts and those trying to reach the 24 hours in their own karts powered by Briggs & Stratton 206 engines. EKN’s Rob Howden talks with Chris McCoy of Endurance Karting by ProCup to learn more about this event and the many others they host and promote throughout the season.

The ‘Operation Grassroots’ is a podcast geared solely on the foundation of the sport. The hub of the show will be discussion centered on the grassroots level of karting, from club racing to regional racing, all focused around the Briggs & Stratton 206 engine platform. Our #OperationGrassroots movement has been based around the Briggs powerplant, with the ultimate goals of bringing new people into the sport and igniting the spark of former racers to come back into what is the most economical form of karting. One of the newest regional programs to hit the midwest area is the Buckeye Karting Challenge. A true racing series for the racers, by the racers, began in 2018 with a three-race series promoted by a group of volunteers. Racers and sponsors jumped on board and now the 2019 program opened up with its largest turnout at the G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio. EKN’s Rob Howden spoke with Scott Smith of the BKC program to discuss its creation and the future in this edition of the ‘Operation Grassroots’ powered by Briggs & Stratton Racing.

The Superkarts! USA Pro Tour reached the halfway point of the 2019 season, hosting the 10th edition of the SpringNationals. On the May 3-5 weekend, competitors traveled to the Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda, Utah for Round Three and Four of the championship program. The weekend was full of exciting racing in the programs first visit since July 2012 to the 9/10-mile ‘Star Trek’ course. Rob Howden and David Cole break down the event in the latest edition of the ‘EKN Debreif’ - thanks to Rolison Performance Group.
