Ducks Push Through Road Trip And Injuries

The Anaheim Ducks went on a five game road trip through Canada and what a trip it has been so far. The Ducks are 2-1-1 in the first four games. They beat Winnipeg, then lost to Montreal and Toronto before winning in a wild comeback against Ottawa yesterday. This week the Ducks roster saw changes each game as the injuries started to mount. Anaheim lost David Perron to a shoulder injury in the game against Winnipeg. Simon Despres was then injured in the game against Montreal and was sent back to California to be evaluated. Kevin Bieksa was the next victim to receive an injury in the game against Toronto.The Ducks also lost Ryan Kesler this week as he had to return home to handle a personal matter before the Toronto game. The Ducks did see Sami Vatanen and Chris Stewart rejoin the team this week. Stewart finally was able to play in the game against Ottawa. Shea Theodore was recalled getting to play in the game against Ottawa too.We discuss the road trip, all the Ducks injuries, and how the outlook for the playoffs will be for Anaheim. Reunite Getzlaf and Perry?

During the third period of the Anaheim Ducks game against the Los Angeles Kings on January 17, Bruce Boudreau split Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. The two remained separate for the next two months until last the game against Boston Bruins. Boudreau put the two together again on one line with Jamie McGinn. It paid off as the line combined for four points on the night and the Ducks won 4-0.Today the Ducks had a brief practice at Anaheim Ice and the same line of McGinn, Getzlaf, and Perry was together. Eddy and Mike discuss whether the Ducks should keep Getzlaf and Perry together or not.John Gibson was on ice today at practice and appeared to look good. The Anaheim Ducks find themselves in second place in the Pacific Division behind the Los Angeles Kings. The Ducks have turned their play around and have gone 18-4-2 since the holiday break. The Ducks have scored 53 goals in their last 13 games averaging just over a four goals per game.Anaheim just finished their best seven game road trip in franchise history going 5-1-1. Wounded Ducks Push Forward

Anaheim: New Lines And New Players

The Swedeheim Ducks

Anaheim Goes Kesler Crazy

This past week the Anaheim Ducks made contracts with many players. Anaheim re-signed Chris Wagner and Michael Sgarbossa to one year deals each. Julius Nattinen was signed to a three year entry level contract. The Ducks also picked up free agent Shane O'Brien who was with the Ducks in the 2006-07 season. The biggest news was the 6 year $41.25 million extension given to Ryan Kesler.How will this signing affect the Ducks team for years to come?Eddy and I take a look at the Kesler deal and how it will affect the Ducks now and in the future. Anaheim Fight Club?

Since the off season the Anaheim Ducks have several players to their roster. Anaheim traded for Carl Hagelin from the New York Rangers and then traded for Kevin Bieksa from the Vancouver Canucks. The Ducks then added free agent Shawn Horcoff with a one year deal to help fill Nate Thompson's spot while he is out for the first couple of months of the season. Most recently the Ducks signed free agents Brian McGrattan and Chris Stewart.If you look at the Ducks roster now, then you will notice it is filled with tough guys. Last season Tim Jackman and Chris Stewart both had 11th fights which was 7th in the league. Clayton Stoner was right behind them with 10 fights last year. Patrick Maroon engaged in 9 fights last season. Kevin Bieksa was in just 4 fights last year, but he usually engages in about 6-7 a year. The total number of fights between these five players was 45 last year, which is the same number the ENTIRE Ducks team had last season. The Ducks squad was 6th highest in the league for number of fights. Also McGrattan was added to the team, but he mainly played in the AHL last season and had just one fight. In his career he has had 258 fights (Includes NHL, AHL, & OHL). He averages 14 fights per season.So does this mean we have an Anaheim Fight Club?Eddy and I tackle this issue and discuss the recent signings of Stewart and McGrattan. Missing Piece?

In past few weeks surrounding July 1st, the Anaheim Ducks lost a few players and gained some as well. The Ducks saw Francois Beauchemin go to the Colorado Avalanche and Matt Beleskey went to the Boston Bruins. The Ducks also traded away Emerson Etem, Kyle Palmieri, and James Wisniewski.Bob Murray acquired a few replacements for the players lost. The Ducks traded a 2016 second round pick for Kevin Bieksa from the Vancouver Canucks. This move was made to fix the open spot that Beauchemin previously held. The Ducks also traded for Carl Hagelin from the New York Rangers. He is a speedy left winger that can replace Beleskey's role. Most recently the Ducks signed Shawn Horcoff to a one year deal.So did Murray do enough to replace the players lost?Eddy and I explore this question as we review the past moves by the Ducks in the recent weeks. Murray Magic

The Anaheim Ducks finished the 2014-15 season just one game away from getting to the Stanley Cup Final. So one might expect the Ducks to not do much this off season right? Wrong.On day one of the NHL draft the Ducks traded Kyle Palmieri to the New Jersey Devils for a 41st pick and a draft pick for the 2016 draft. The trade was made on Friday June 26th, but declared official on the 27th because Palmieri was out of the country and not able to be reached immediately.Then early on the morning of day two of the draft the Ducks made two more trades. They sent Emerson Etem and their newly acquired second round pick (41st overall) to the New York Rangers for winger Carl Hagelin, a second round pick (59th overall), and a sixth round pick (179th overall). In their final deal of the day, the Ducks traded James Wisniewski to the Carolina Hurricanes for goaltender Anton Khudobin.On day one of the draft the Ducks selected Swedish defenseman Jacob Larsson. On day two they had six draft picks and selected center Julius Nattinen with the 59th overall pick, center Brent Gates with the 80th overall pick, winger Deven Sideroff with the 84th overall pick, center/winger Troy Terry with the 148th overall pick, defenseman Steven Ruggiero with the 178th overall pick, and goaltender Garrett Metcalf with the 179th overall pick.Lastly, we analyze the moves around the league and how the other team's may stack up next season.

Ducks Draft Strategy

With the Anaheim Ducks season over, it's time to focus on the NHL Draft coming up June 26th and 27th. Thomas Harrington joins Eddy and I to talk about the Ducks strategy this summer. With Bruce Boudreau returning, Bob Murray can focus on re-signing some players and the draft.The Ducks have two unrestricted free agents in Francois Beauchemin and Matt Beleskey. They also have three restricted free agents in Chris Wagner, Emerson Etem, and Jakob Silfverberg. We discuss how the Ducks should handle their free agents this summer.Then we look at the Ducks drafts picks and who they could try to pick. We discuss some of the top picks in the draft and whether or not the Ducks should try to trade up in the draft. Lastly, we talk about the Ducks strategy for next season in terms of the lineup and goalie situation.

What's Next For The Ducks?

After sweeping the Winnipeg Jets and beating the Calgary Flames in five games, the Ducks faced the Blackhawks in the Western Conference Final.The Ducks and Blackhawks battled to seven games. The Ducks had a 3-2 advantage and had two opportunities to close out the series. Unfortunately, history repeated itself for the third year as the Ducks lost games six and seven just like the previous two years against Los Angeles and Detroit. The Ducks lost their third game seven in the last three years. Eddy and I briefly look at the last couple games of the series. We then turn our attention to the future with free agents like Matt Beleskey and Francois Beauchemin. We discuss the Ducks strategy to signing players in the off season and the upcoming draft.

The Ducks Remain Focused

The Anaheim Ducks have a 2-1 lead in their series against the Chicago Blackhawks. Despite what some experts think, the Ducks are not a team to be taken lightly.Eddy and I review the first three games of this series. The Ducks were able to earn a 4-1 victory in the first game and a nail biter 2-1 win in Game 2. The Ducks could even be up 3-0 in this series, but lost Game 2 in a marathon Triple OT game. We discuss the Ducks success in this series as a team and highlight individual player performances as well.We address the team's ability to focus on playing hockey despite being underestimated by many. Even despite the comments of Mike Milbury the Ducks went to Chicago and won Game 3 in another hostile environment. No matter what the situation is the Ducks have fought through and handled everything well so far.

Ducks Success Earns Trip To WCF

For the first time since the 2006-07 post season the Anaheim Ducks are going to the Western Conference Final!The Ducks defeated the Flames in the 5th game of the series in dramatic fashion. Entering the third period behind by one goal, Matt Beleskey scored to tie the game. Beleskey scored his fifth goal in five games against the Flames. He broke Teemu Selanne's record of scoring at least one goal in four consecutive games in a playoff series.Then the faithful at Honda Center had a big scare as Corey Perry would go down after a hard check. He would have to crawl on the ice to get back to the bench. Moments later he appeared on the ice and eventually scored the game winner to eliminate the Flames. The moment was compared to by many as the Paul Kariya moment when he was knocked out by Scott Stevens in the 2002-03 Stanley Cup Final. Kariya came back and scored a goal in Game 6.Eddy and I look at the Ducks current playoff run and discuss why the Ducks have had success against the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames. We also look forward to the series against the Chicago Blackhawks. We break down both teams and give you our analysis on how this series will go.

The Calgary Lime Toss

After going up 2-0 in the series, the Ducks traveled to Calgary for games 3 and 4. The Ducks earned a split and now have a chance to close out the series tonight.One of our writers Phil Wunderlich joins us on the podcast as we recap the last two games. After taking out the Winnipeg Jets in four games, the Ducks had a week off to rest. They finally got to start round two against the Calgary Flames and haven't disappointed. The Ducks have out scored the Flames 9 to 1 in the first two contests and shut them out in Game 2.Eddy and I discuss the Ducks success so far in the playoffs and preview the road trip as Ducks head to Calgary for two games. Ducks Thrive In 3rd Period

Two games are in the books for the Anaheim Ducks and they haven't disappointed. Despite trailing after two periods in each game by one goal, the Ducks have rallied to win each game. The Ducks lead the best of seven series 2-0 over the Winnipeg Jets.In game one the hero was Corey Perry as he scored two goals to lead the rally for the Ducks. The NHL Playoffs are here finally! It came down to the last day of the season, but the Anaheim Ducks prevailed over the Arizona Coyotes 2-1 to earn the First Seed in the Western Conference in back-to-back years. Ducks Are All Smiles Today

After a crazy road trip, the Anaheim Ducks returned home to Honda Center last night with a chance to clinch the Pacific Division for the third consecutive year in a row. And the Ducks clinched in style dispatching the Oilers with a 5-1 victory.I went to Honda Center today and the Ducks(including Bruce Boudreau!) were all smiles today after clinching. Ducks Final Approach To The Playoffs

John Gibson had started four games in a row, which left many fans wondering when Frederik Andersen would return to the net. Andersen finally played against Colorado earning a 3-2 victory in overtime. Bruce Boudreau is going with Andersen in the matchup against the New York Rangers.Eddy and I look at the Ducks goalie situation and give you our analysis on how the Ducks should approach the final games for the season and the playoffs. The Ducks are also more healthy now with Sami Vatanen and Matt Beleskey making life difficult for Boudreau to decide the starting line up night in and out. Ducks Line Dance Into The Playoffs

In the game against Vancouver, the Ducks' lineup looked very different with Corey Perry on the third line. Then against the Calgary Flames and Minnesota Wild, Perry and Ryan Getzlaf were back together on the top line. Matt Beleskey returned to the lineup against the Wild and played on the top line. The shuffling at the top line has caused the remaining lines to be changed as well.Eddy and I address the fans concerns about the line juggling.
